01. the letter
HARPER POTTER WOKE UP BEFORE DAWN. It wasn't that she was a morning person โ she definitely wasn't โ but today was an exception. Today was her eleventh birthday and she knew her Hogwarts letter would arrive ever since she set the Daily Prophet on fire. Accidentally if she may add.
Slipping into her slippers, she took her night robe that hung over the end of her bed, and pulled it on before heading into the hallway. The small cottage she shared with her godmother Dorcas and her uncle Moony consisted of three bedrooms, a bathroom and a small hallway on the first floor. The kitchen, living room and dining room were downstairs.
Harper carefully walked past the open bedroom doors of the two adults, not wanting to wake them, before descending the stairs. Her hazel eyes glided over the door mat and she saw that mail had yet to arrive.
Moving into the kitchen, she started making herself some hot chocolate, something she probably was addicted to. She blamed Moony for that. It was he who had the addiction first and brought it in the house. Dorcas had scolded him many times before, saying that it wasn't that healthy and that they should perhaps eat less of it.
Needless to say Harper and Remus did not listen.
"I smell chocolate," Remus said, appearing sleepily in the doorway.
"Of course you do," Harper said, grinning while taking another mug. "Perks of being a werewolf."
"One of the only ones," Remus muttered, as he fell down onto a chair, going with his hand through his graying hairs. "Anyway, it's all about you today, munckin!" he added, more enthusiastic now. "Are you excited? Happy Birthday by the way!"
"Thank you and yes," Harper said, beaming, handing him a hot chocolate. "Very."
"Good morning," a third voice said, and the duo looked up to see Dorcas appearing in the kitchen, yawning.
"Good morning," Harper and Remus said at the same time.
"Happy Birthday, darling," Dorcas said, engulfing Harper in a tight hug.
"Thanks, Auntie," Harper said, hugging the dark head woman back.
The sound of someone โ or something โ picking against the window, made Harper pull back. There, behind the kitchen window, was a barn owl holding the letter she had been waiting for.
"Go get it!" Remus encouraged her, gesturing at the owl.
Harper beamed as she quickly dashed over to the window. She opened it and the owl hopped in.
"Hello mate," she said softly, as she caressed his feathers gently. "Are you here to bring me my Hogwarts letter?"
The owl hooted and dropped the letter on the kitchen isle. Harper grabbed some treated and water and gave it to him, before picking the envelop up.
Miss H. Potter
This is it, Harper thought as she turned it around to open it. She pulled the letter out of the envelope before opening it. Her hazel eyes swept over the titel and a grin broke out onto her face.

"I got accepted!" Harper squealed, punching her fist in the air. "I got in!"
"Congrats, darling!" Dorcas exclaimed, pulling her in for another hug. "I'm so proud of you!"
"Good job, munchkin," Remus said, ruffling her hair.
Harper was beaming now. What she had dreamed of for almost her whole life, was becoming reality now. She took the enclosed list and read that, too.

Harper raised her eyebrow at the last sentence, wondering who had been the one that caused that rule to be made.
"We'll go to Diagon Alley next week to get you all of this," Dorcas said, her eyes darting over the list. "You can write Ron and ask if he wants to meet up."
"That's a good idea!" Harper said, putting the letter down before dashing up to her room. She grabbed a piece of parchment, an old quill and some ink that hadn't dried out yet. Then she sat down behind her desk and started writing a letter to Ron.
Dear Ron,
I finally got my Hogwarts letter! I'm so happy! Moony, Auntie and I are heading towards Diagon Alley next week. You want to meet up there?
Also, do you know who made it impossible for first-years to have their own broomsticks?
Anyway, I hopefully see you next week!
Harp
Once she finished the letter, she folded it before making her way down the stairs and handing it to their barn owl, Peck.
"This one's for Ron," Harper told him, as she opened the window. "Have a safe journey, my friend," she quietly added as she watched him fly away.
Another day closer to Hogwarts.
Another day closer to her brother.
