COLD WATER

thirteen.             evil little shit

CORI GIGGLED AS SHE held onto Carter's hair, his lips attracted to her neck and her back pressed into the brick wall of the movie theater. They were almost completely covered in darkness, the light from the nearby lamp post and the sign of the theater blocked by a perfectly placed, and otherwise rather useless, column. It had been a week of them pretty much being attached to one another whenever they had a moment alone and though Cori wasn't really proud of it, they had snuck off to the boy's locker room at lunch one day. Lucky for them, Noah didn't seem to notice since he spent his lunch on the phone with Lola.

And it seemed that neither cared all that much about keeping it a secret. Kim and Rachel weren't exactly subtle when they all hung out, but Paul, Jared and Noah seemed to be a little too slow to actually figure anything out.

"They're gonna be looking for us." Cori mumbled, her eyes closed then she bit her lip to keep in a moan as he sucked yet another hickey on her collarbone. "Carter." She breathed out and he pulled back, smiling a little at the fresh mark on her pale skin, but before he stood up he pressed a soft kiss to the tender spot.

"Sorry, got carried away." He ran his thumb over the spot, watching as her eyes fluttered closed at his feather-light touch. "You keep doing stuff like that and we're never gonna leave this corner."

She took a breath and moved her hands to his chest before pushing him back just a little and he chuckled as he let his hands fall from her. "Behave."

"Always." He smirked and she rolled her eyes.

"Cori?" Bella called out and Cori fixed her shirt and her coat. "She was just here." Carter grabbed her hand, their fingers laced together, as they stepped out of the shadows and made their way towards the others.

"Where's everyone else?" Cori asked, pulling her hair over her left shoulder, just to make sure the hickey was covered.

"Jessica bailed, and Angela got the stomach flu, so Eric's taking care of her." Bella answered. "So, it's just us."

"I want candy." Cori mumbled as she turned towards the door, pulling Carter with her towards the candy counter. "That was about to get awkward."

"What?" He chuckled, clearly confused as they waited in line.

"They both have a thing for Bella, but Bella's not over Edward – which I don't get. He was rude." She pouted slightly, she never understood why Edward made somewhat rude comments to her and never once did he actually try to get to know her.

"Oh, Sweetheart." He mumbled, pulling her into his chest and she leaned against him with a smile on her lips. "Hey, we're next." He nudged her a little and she pulled away from him long enough to order two sodas, a bag of gummy bears and a small popcorn. And once they got their snacks, they met the other three and headed for the theater.

It was pretty much full, very few seats left. Cori stood on her toes as she looked around but she was too short to see much other than peoples' heads.

"There's two up top and three down here." Jacob pointed out.

"Bye!" Cori turned and started up the stairs, pulling a rather amused Carter with her.

"All the way in the back, huh?" He mused as they took their seats.

"Best seats in the house." She nodded as she put her soda in the cup holder before adjusting the popcorn in her lap. It didn't take long for the movie to start, and Cori was slightly irritated that she had finished her gummy bears before the previews even finished. But her irritation faded when Carter leaned over and kissed her cheek as he squeezed her hand and she smiled as she looked up at him.

And before too much longer they were locked in a heated kiss, their arms wrapped tightly around each other but making out in a theater is a little harder than it looks on tv. "You just wanna get outta here?" Cori asked, slightly out of breath.

"Yep." He nodded and was out of his seat so fast that he nearly tripped on the guy next to him. "Sorry." He gave him a nod then grabbed Cori's hand and they left... sort of. They didn't make it farther than the empty lobby before Carter had her pinned against the wall with his lips on hers.

"I didn't mean..." She panted. "...the lobby."

"I know." He nodded his head, pulling back to catch his breath. "Let's go." He took her hand again and started towards the exit but they stopped when they saw Mike leave the theater with his hand over his mouth and not long after did Bella and Jacob walk out.

"You two leaving?" Bella asked when she saw them.

"Uh, yeah." Cori nodded. "Rachel called, she had an emergency."

"Emergency?" Jacob nearly panicked.

"A book emergency." She lied. "Nothing too serious, but you know how she gets."

"A book emergency?" Bella raised a skeptical eyebrow.

"Bye." Carter waved then tugged Cori with him towards the door. "You are a bad lair." He laughed.

"I know." She huffed. "Come on, let's go."

"Yes, to this book emergency." He teased.

"So no sex then?" She mumbled as he opened the passenger side door for her.

"How dare you use sex as a weapon?" He narrowed his eyes at her playfully and she giggled. "You evil little shit."

She shrugged as she slid into the car. "Are we going or not?"

"Evil." He mumbled as he leaned into the car. "But so adorable." He pressed his lips against hers. "My place or yours?"

"Yours." She hummed and he nodded as he stood up but she reached out and grabbed his hand before he could close the door. "Hey, I'm not trying to use sex as a weapon, I was just kidding."

"I know." He squatted down and took her hand in his. "I was also kidding. But if you don't want to have sex. We can just watch movies. I'll make hot chocolate and we can cuddle."

"You're the best."

"I really am." He mused and she giggled as she rolled her eyes. "Okay, let's get going." She smiled as he kissed the back of her hand before he stood up and closed the door. She watched as he rounded the hood of the car and slid in behind the wheel. "Seatbelt."

As promised, he made hot chocolate and they cuddled as they watched disney movies – her choice – but only after a rather hot make out session that led to them tangled up in his sheets.

"HE'S NOT ANSWERING." Cori shrugged a little, giving Bella a sad smile as she hung up and put her phone back into her pocket. "Sorry, Bell."

"No, it's okay." She gave her a forced smile. "It's my fault. I just..."

"It's okay to not be over him."

"You got over Emmett." Bella stated. "How?"

Cori shrugged. "I don't really know exactly. Um, but my friends helped. Lola talked me through a few rough nights, Paul and Rachel stayed over when I was having nightmares – not that they were Emmett related. Um, Noahs keep me laughing. Kim and Jared, gosh, they're completely and totally insane but kind of made for each other. And Carter, gosh..." Bella watched as her sister's cheeks flushed. "he's been amazing. He's sort of my rock. But everyone copes differently, they move on differently. For me, it was my friends.

"For you, I think sitting with it only made it worse and I'm not saying that it was wrong or bad but you were in a funk for so long. But, you will get over him. With or without Jake, who I may have to kill if he keeps ignoring both of us." She huffed, making Bella laugh a little. "And you always have me. I'm here. And I know I'm gone a lot, but if you ever need me, call me."

"Thanks, Cori." Bella mumbled as she pulled the younger girl into a tight hug and Cori smiled as she wrapped her arms around her sister.

"Alright, we should be back by three." Charlie announced as he and Harry walked in with their fishing gear.

"You two have fun." Cori told them as she pulled back. "I'm heading over to Emily's. She's teaching me, Kim and Rachel how to cook."

"Yikes." Harry mumbled as he leaned into the kitchen and grabbed the fire extinguisher off the wall – Charlie made sure it was easily accessible after what happened on Thanksgiving. "Keep this on hand." He held it out to the girl and she shook her head as she took it.

"Thanks, Harry." She gave him a nod and he returned it, tipping his hat slightly. "Kim should be here soon so I'm gonna go, bye. Catch a big fish!"

"Be careful and listen to Emily, please." Charlie told her. "And try not to come home covered in burns."

"You got it." She nodded as she walked out the door just as Kim honked her horn. "I'm right here!" She shouted as she neared the Tahoe.

"Why do you have a fire extinguisher?" Rachel asked.

"I told Harry we were cooking today and he gave it to me." She told them as she climbed into the back seat. "And I figured, better safe than sorry."

"Oh, very true." Rachel nodded and Kim shook her head at the two.

"I'M OFFICIALLY DONE." Cori mumbled as she held her hand in the air. "No more. They just have to starve."

"You're getting the hang of it." Emily chuckled at the girl, her hands on her shoulders. "It just takes a little bit of practice."

"Yeah, I doubt I'm ever cooking again, so I don't need to learn this kind of stuff." She shook her head, the bun on the top of her head bouncing with the movement.

"You need to feed yourself, don't you?" Kim asked, picking at the muffins she and Rachel had made.

"That's what Noah's for." She hummed. "He's actually really good in the kitchen. Last time I had dinner with him and his mom he made this amazing Loaded Potato Soup. It was to die for."

"And what if he can't cook for you?" Rachel asked, her eyebrow raised.

"That's what take-out is for."

"Listen to me." Emily put her hands on the girl's cheeks to ensure that she was paying attention. "It's chicken enchiladas, it's not that hard to make and I'm right here."

"Okay." She mumbled, her blue eyes wide as she looked up at the woman, Emily smiled and lightly kissed the tip of her nose, bringing a smile to the young girl's lips. "Show me what to do."

A few hours later the guys piled into the house, all of them laughing and joking around as they shook the rain from their hair. "The floors!" Emily shouted. "Guys, the floors!" They all froze, their eyes on their muddy feet then they backed out the door and used the towels she had put out to wipe the mud off.

"How does she do that?" Cori whispered as she leaned closer to Rachel, both girl's watched in amazement as the group of rowdy boys listened so effortlessly to the woman.

"She makes our food." Paul shrugged as he entered the house, using the towel to wipe the mud off of the floor. "We don't listen, we don't get fed."

"He's right." Jared agreed.

"That and Sam would murder us." Embry added, making Cori giggle as Paul and Jared greeted their imprints.

"I would do no such thing." Sam smirked, shoving the boy's shoulder a little before his eyes settled on Emily and his smirk faded into a soft smile as he neared her. When he was close enough he wrapped his arms around her and planted a dozen kisses across her face.

"You ever feel awkward when this happens?" Embry asked, leaning on the counter next to Cori.

"No, I think it's sweet." She shrugged, her cheeks squished between her palms and her elbows on the counter.

"I find it nauseating." He muttered and she quickly leaned over and pecked his cheek.

"Better?" She grinned, settling her face in her hands again, not noticing that Jacob had walked into the house, his hair soaking wet and his feet bare.

"No, but thank you." He chuckled as she shrugged as she looked around the room, but her smile faded a little when she spotted the newest of the pack.

"Jake?" She stood up, her eyebrows creased. And everyone grew quiet as their eyes bounced between the two.

"Cori? What are you doing here?" He nearly panicked. "What the hell is she doing here?" He looked towards Sam, his eyes wide.

"I know." She shrugged. "I've known for a while."

"What?"

"Yeah, that was my bad." Paul raised his hand slightly, which only confused the new wolf even more. "Sorry, Munchkin."

"Again... what?"

"Gosh, Jake, have you always been this slow?" Cori huffed, getting quiet snickers from the boy to her left as well as Jared and Kim. "You turn into a giant wolf. Just like almost everyone in this room. I know this information, and, no, I will not tell you how I know. Got it?"

He nodded, his jaw still hanging open slightly. "Uh, yeah I guess."

"Good." She nodded her head once. "And call my sister back." She hummed before a smile pulled at her lips as she looked around the room. "Now, I made chicken enchiladas. Who's hungry?"

The guys all started talking at the same time, Jared and Paul cheering while Embry asked for piles of food, and Sam asked if the food was actually safe to eat – which Cori heard, leading to the death glares he got for the rest of the night.
