Chapter 8

JAEHYUN HAD PROFUSELY BEEN GETTING MORE ATTENTION FROM HOGWARTS'S EYE EVER since two of the four marauders seemed to be getting spot more and more around the boys. Gaining attention was not really what Jaehyun had hoped for after spending so many years accepting his life as a background character. Add the fact that Regulus Black, heir of the Black house, was getting spot around him as well was causing many lookers from the shadows. Wondering how he garnered the attention of the boys in Hogwarts every one wanted or wanted to be.

Regulus had told him to stay calm or else it could possibly turn out for the worse. Jaehyun always listened to Regulus despite him being a year below him, it was quite extraordinary how much he admired his best friend. "So, how did you and Lupin get befriended?" He asked.

The pair were sitting together at the dinner table, many eyes gleaming over their seats as the purebloods wanted an explanation why he was not dead yet and others wanted to know why Regulus was with a muggleborn. Some thought Jaehyun would be dead by the end of winter break because everyone knew what went on in the house of Black.

Jaehyun felt a blush rising to his cheeks and shrugged, he remembered how softly Remus had spoke the night they had met. How his voice trembled over his smooth skin as the whispers entered his ears. "Umh.. Well, I don't really know. He just came up to me and complimented my sketches.. and after that I saw him a lot more in the library when he didn't want to be with the other three."

Regulus nodded and chuckled, he had never had a disliking towards Remus. He was a respectable guy, he'd only turn foul once you've insulted him and his friends or started a fight. Regulus wasn't bothered by that, it's how he worked as well. To earn respect you give it, it was clear in his books. The reason Regulus loathed Sirius his friends was because he felt replaced. He had always been second to Sirius, but then again, he was second to James.

James Potter was the family of Sirius Black, his brother. Regulus could never compete with one as beautiful and brave as James Potter.

"As long as he isn't being weird, that's fine." He encouraged as he watched Jaehyun awkwardly smile. After all those years of friendship Jaehyun wasn't used to kind words from his friends, or just ones to encourage him. Regulus had noticed that back in his second year when Jaehyun didn't know how to answer when he complimented his incredible memory.

After dinner that night Jaehyun had escaped to the depts of the library to find some peace whilst Regulus went to the Slug Club. Like many cold autumn days he bared the cold with a thick sweater to size over his body. His fingers traced over the parchment paper as he started to scribble down words to form the sentences to his story. He was very dedicated to his work, it's what got him through his harsh years in Hogwarts. And, somehow, this year he found himself more distracted from it than he usually would be.

The newfound friendships with the two Marauders had felt refreshing and it felt nice to have people to share your interests with. The few times Remus had met up with him he had let the boy ramble about his stories, actually listening to his fiction and work of mind. Jaehyun would often apologise for so mindlessly rambling and every time Remus excused his worries, replying that it didn't bother him and he quite enjoyed it.

"You know that your grades would be excellent would you not spend it writing about Areonis and Merona." Remus commented as he looked up from his book, his knees having been curled up into his chest on his seat. Jaehyun merely shrugged, "It's not as fun." He replied seemingly enjoying himself as he withdrew his hands from his paper and dropped his pen on the wooden desk that had been standing there with his own story for thousands of years.

Remus didn't quite understand why logical thinking bothered Jaehyun that much. It was simple and one of the few reasons he actually enjoyed it. Like Potions, that was the way it was, no stupid philosophical answer you need to ponder on for hours at a time wondering whether it was good enough to deliver. He never understood why people would waste hours on stuff like that.

Jaehyun on the other hand liked nothing. He enjoyed spending his free time as a normal student, no pressure of a prefect or head boy, no onlooking peers like Regulus who breathed in every minor mistake he made. He was Jaehyun. He was a muggle boy who just needed to pass, which, he barely did as it is but that's okay. His parents always blamed it on the fact that he was muggleborn anyways, because how could you throw away your logics in one night and excel in a class that once was fantasy.

His parents having two muggleborn sons to send off to Hogwarts was like a miracle. It was surprising when they had found Jaehyun to also be a wizard after they had sent off their other son just two years prior. More likely a miracle, so they wouldn't have to force Jaehyun to socialise. Living at a school implied meeting new people everyday. Only they hadn't anticipated how harsh the reality of a muggleborn was at Hogwarts, the expierence had been cruel towards Jaehyun in every way and form. The second they got their first owl they had realised how a nightmare this could turn out to be for their youngest.

"Well, I hope you'll find a great publisher soon. I know a few great artist from my study clubs, Edith Powell would be great.. I could organize a session, that is if you were ever looking forward to that of course." Remus gently explained, Jaehyun enjoyed Remus his company more than he did James'. James was an extraodinary being and such a wonderful friend to have, but there way no denying that their interest and way of thinking had been immensely unalike. Jaehyun liked that James was a social angel send by Merlin, he had been one of the reasons that Remus had gotten to know him. However, he enjoyed the peace and silence that Remus could bring to their library hang outs, their mutual feeling of being tired yet not wanting to feel lonely.

Jaehyun often found himself tired of socializing, maybe that were just him and Remus but he needed a bit of time to himself otherwise he could find himself going mental. He smiled gently at Remus and shook his head, "I'm not sure if I'll ever finish it." He explained, countering his offer. Remus scoffed in reply, as if not believing what the boy in front of the was saying.

"You've wrote twenty nine chapters, I'm sure you'll finish sometime." He replied casually, his hand trailed down his own waist and halted when he found a bar of chocolate he knew he had saved from earlier. He smiled happily and pulled it out of his pocket, "Want some?" He asked genuinely. The Korean boy laughed and nodded, "We could always go to the kitchens, make an entire chocolate buffet out of it again."

Remus his ears perked at the excellent idea, "Bloody hell! Yes we should. I loved those cookies the elves made." He stated eagerly, Jaehyun stared at him for a second or two, contemplating if that were the smartest idea. He grinned sincerely and nodded, "Well, let's get going then. We've got two hours before curfew, don't think that prefects go easy on other prefects."

The werewolf his realisation downed onto him, his eyes widening at the words prefect. Jaehyun clearly noticed this, his head tilting slightly sideways, "Remus.. Do not tell me you had prefect duties.. Again." Remus merely stayed silent, not wanting to admit he had skipped his prefect rounds for the second time that week. The Lupin boy had enjoyed their meet ups more than he would have ever expected and had not stopped to think about the fact he did still have duties. He was likely going to have a fuming Evans raging at him with a clear voice, which, was genuinely terrifying.

"Than I will not tell you?" Remus tried to make it humerous, Jaehyun frowned; He was worried that this could damage the reputation of his newfound friend which could only end horribly. He didn't want to feel the guilt of having ruined one like Remus Lupin. Jaehyun slapped his palm across his face and let out an inaudible groan which intensified the realisation of his actions. "Remus, you told me Keen was on your duty tonight!"

"Oh, oh yeah right he is. I paid him with a pack of cigarettes." He explained, his light heart attack quickly fading and returning into a normal heart beat once again. A sigh escaped his lips, Jaehyun stared at him with a poker face. "I did not find that funny." He glared playfully as they now continued to venture towards the kitchen filled with great and delicious delicates.

At the exact moment this had happened Seohyun and James were seated in the kitchens to discuss further plans about Quidditch. Or, at least that was the supposed reason for their meet up alone. In reality James didn't quite know why he was in fact so desperate to talk with Seohyun again, ever since they had talked about him giving up on Lily he hadn't left his mind. When he thought more about it he realised Seohyun was quite frankly almost always on his mind. The thought of him running his delicate fingers through his mess of a hair was a mesmerising thought that just wouldn't leave his mind the past few days.

Seohyun puffed out the smoke of a cigarette that had been placed onto his lips and let the air be engulfed into the kitchen. James frowned, how attractive that the stunt may had been it still wasn't one he could praise. He knew Remus smoked every once in a while aswel, as much as he had scolded him for it, it didn't bother him much. "You know smoking is horrible for your lungs right?" He asked, his brows raised as he prayed to Merlin it would magically make him quit the habit.

Seohyun his gaze turned to look James directly in the eyes, a chuckle escaped his lips along with another puff of smoke. "Ooh~ is mister Potter one of those people?" The older boy asked, his brows raising in amusement. A smirk laced onto his lips and James couldn't help but feel a red colour reach his cheeks.

"One of what?"

The Quidditch captain let out a chuckle, "Like those who simply are.." He paused to create a mysterious tension. In a swift movement he grabbed James his cheeks, "Just too kind and adorable for their own good!" He exclaimed as he squished the little baby fat that was still left in his cheekbones. James whined and groaned as he felt his cheeks become fiery red purely from the way Seohyun was manhandling his cheeks.

"Let go I'm not a baby!"

"Oh yes you are."
