"Quick. Fuck, Marry, Killโbut with all the Chris's of Hollywood," Lilah said, putting her feet up on the dashboard.
Tom groaned. Him and Lilah had been driving for two and a half hours, and though he could never get tired of her voice, he was just so bored. Also it was a very difficult question.
He thought for a moment. "Fuck Hemsworth, because . . . you know. He's hot."
Lilah nodded her head in agreement, stuffing a cheeto in her mouth.
"Marry Evans because he's a big teddy bear, andโwell I guess that leaves Pratt. Sorry man," he said to no one.
"Well at least now you have your answer prepared for when someone asks you."
Tom made a face. "Why would somebody ask me that?"
She shrugged and looked out her window. Lilah's parent's house was around three hours outside of Atlanta, and that's where Tom was driving. While doing the scene, trying to make herself cry, Lilah thought of only one person. Her sister, Eveline.
She recalled all the times when Eveline had subtly dropped hints about wanting Lilah to talk to her, telling her to come get herโand thought the worst. That's what triggered the weeping.
Not Tom, not any of her new friends, not her parents. Her sister.
Anabel, Lilah's other sister, had never been close with either of them. She did her own thing, was stuck in her own damn mind all the time, and avoided talking with them at all costs. But while all three girl's parents left them home alone, which was most nights, and Anabel was cooped up in her bedroom, that left Lilah to take care of Eveline.
Lilah used to read books aloud to her, and tuck her in at night, when she was only seven and eight years old.
But when Lilah turned nine, she shut everybody out, a smile never crossed her lips, and only recently had she realizedโto her younger sister, Lilah must have seemed like just a worse version of Anabel. And it hurt. But it wasn't Eveline's fault. There was a reason Lilah had closed the door on everyone. She just didn't know if she was ready to say what the reason was.
"We're here," Tom said. Lilah snapped out of her thoughts and looked out of the window again. Sure enough, her childhood home stood, a cookie cutter print out of the ones beside it. Lilah closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Tom asked, "Do you want me to come with you? Incase something happens?"
"No," she said quickly, then unbuckled her seatbelt and climbed out of his car.
She approached the front door; her feet felt like dead weights in her shoes. Slowly, she raised an arm and lightly knocked on the chipped red painted door.
No noise was heard from inside for about two minutes, and Lilah glanced back at Tom, who was waiting patiently in his car. She gave him a tight lipped smile and turned back to the door. It clicked open.
A tall young woman, her sixteen year old sister, stood in the threshold. Lilah's lips parted, and her heartbeat became faster paced. She hadn't realized how much one could miss another person.
Eveline's arms fell slack at her sides, and she just stood there. In shock, she supposed.
Lilah ran a careful eye up and down Eveline's tall and skinny body, discreetly. Looking for any injuries. And sure enough, when Lilah reached Eveline's face, a small cut crossed over her bottom lip, a bruise on her chin.
Before Lilah could grab her hand and drag her out to the car and drive off forever, Eveline let out a whimper and took a step close to her. And Lilah didn't protest when her younger sister wrapped her arms around her shoulders and cried onto her shoulder.
--- (a/n-ย rq warning, small mention of child abuse. i'll put another a/n when it ends)
Eveline's parents shouldn't have had children. They weren't made more parenthood, and yet they had three girls.
For the past year while both Anabel and Lilah were off starting their new lives, Eveline's parents decided to drop theย persona. The persona that they loved and adored Eveline. That she was the perfect child and they would never hurt her.
What a load of bullshit.
Eveline had just been in the bathroom trying to somehow patch up her split open lip fromโjust the thought made her wince. But then someone knocked on the door. In a state of fear, Eveline quickly hid the medical supplies in her bedroom for later, and answered the front door.
And outside of the front door was her eldest sister. Someone had come to take her away. Finally.
She hadn't meant to cry, but she just started sobbing, and couldn't stop. They were thankful tears though. Thankful was the only world to think of when she saw Lilah.
When Eveline pulled back from the hug she had embraced her sister in, she saw through tears, a car in the driveway. Her heart skipped a beat thinking her parents were home, but a handsome young man sat in the driver's seat, lip syncing to a song. She could've sworn he was around her age, but then she recognized him.
Eveline said her first words to her sister in over a year, "Why is Peter Parker in my driveway?"
Lilah let out a small laugh. Eveline turned her head at that sound. She'd never heard Lilah laugh before. In her deepest memories, when Eveline was too young to remember anything, Lilah used to read aloud to her, laugh at the sound of her own voice trying to imitate characters.
"That, is my friend Tom. Thomas. Timothy. Tiberius Holla Back Girl. Or his stripper name: Rihanna. But don't mention the Lip Sync Battle, it gives him anxiety just thinking about it," Lilah said. "Although, you may make fun of him all you want, interrupt him when he tries to give you spoilers, and punch him in the arm. Not his face though, he thinks it's his best quality." A pause. "Also he knows he's pretty, so don't stretch his ego out too much."
Eveline blinked. So many words had never come out of Lilah's mouth. And so casually, too.
Her eldest sister turned around to listen in the house. Listening for her parents. "Are they here?" she asked quietly, all amusement faded from her tone.
Eveline shook her head quickly, and Lilah muttered, "Good." She gestured for Eveline to walk to Tom's car, and she did. When the two of them got in the back seat, Tom smiled at Eveline, and she tried to keep her cheeks from heating.
Lilah rubbed in between her brows with her thumb and forefinger. "I told you not to boost his ego, geez."
Eveline glared at her. "Sorry I can't help but realize that your so called 'friend' is a beautiful man."
Her sister glared right back, but then both of their faces broke out into grins. It felt so familiar, so easy, to have her sister around. Even if they hadn't seen each other in a long while.
Lilah's smile faded, though, when she cleared her throat and began talking. "I have a few questions."
"Okay . . ." Eveline said slowly.
"Are you hurt?"
"Besides the split lip, physically I'm fine." She fake sniffled, "But emotionally I'm bruised."
Tom rolled his eyes and muttered, "Are you just the younger and taller version of her or something?"
"Oh most definitely. The more Harry Styles references the better, Tommy."
Tom perked up and looked to Lilah. "Tommy! That's a new one."
Lilah ignored him. "I give you five options of what to call him, and you choose Tommy? I'm disappointed. I still have more questions though, Eveline."
"Okay, ask them."
"Do you need to get out?" her sister asked quietly, as if someone could hear them inside Tom's car. Eveline nodded. Lilah's eyes softened. "I have a plan, don't worry. I'm going to tell you, you're going to tell me if you're okay with it, then you go inside, pack a small bag as quickly as you can, and come back to the car right away. Okay?"
"Okay."
"For the next month while Tom and I finish filming Spiderman, you'll have a safe place both on set and at the house. No one will hurt you, or touch you. We do have to fly to Berlin next week, but after that, I'll call Child Services. I'm a witness. Tom's a witness. Sydney's a witness. They'll be locked up after a court trial, you'll turn eighteen in a little over a year, and you'll be free as you please."
(a/n- back to pleasant reading)
"What about until then? Until I turn eighteen?" Eveline asked.
A quick glance towards Tom, then Lilah said, "You can stay with Tom and I in London, if you'd like. Or with Anabel in New York, either one."
The latter option sounded miserable, she had barely even spoken to Anabel in her lifetime. And living all the way in London . . . it was the better of the two. Scary, but better. While Eveline considered her options, Lilah asked, "Are you okay with this?"
She nodded, then did what Lilah had told her. Go inside, pack a small bag, not too much to alarm her parents, and come straight back. Eveline opened the car door and casually walked into the house.
Her sister had come to save her.
---
Tom watched Lilah climb back into the front seat of his car, and sigh as Eveline walked back into the house. "I forgot to tell you, tomorrow Haz is taking me to a dentist appointment. Wisdom teeth."
"Yayyyyyy I can't wait to see you on pain killers," she smirked at him.
Shit. Shitโ he didn't think about that. What things might he say to her under the medication? When he gave Lilah a panicked smile, he thoughts went out the window at her frown.ย
"You put a smile on her face," he said, leaning his head against the head rest. She did the same.
"Am I even aloud to do this though?" she asked.
Tom thought and said jokingly, "I think it's only a little bit illegal, so you're good."
They turned their heads to look at each other at the same time. He smiled lazily, tired from all the driving. But it was worth it, for her. For Lilah.
She asked suddenly, "Is it okay that I invited her to live with us? I didn't tell you about that part, sorry."
He was a bit surprised by the question. Of course he was okay with it. He said as much. "Lilah, we are equals. My house is your house, your family is my family, my family is yours." Tom reached for her hand and interlaced their fingers together. Why were her hands so damn softโ
"Living together will probably start blurring those lines though," she said. "How about we keep it in the friendship zone?"
"Did you just friend zone me? Using the words friendship zone???"
Lilah leaned forwards a bit, so close to his face that when she whispered, "I think I did," her warm breath sweeped over his lips. But she raised herself up a bit and kissed his forehead, an action that was becoming so familiar to the both of them.
Tom let go of her hand and put both hands on the steering wheel, just as Eveline came out of the paint-chipped house. "Can I divorce you even if we're not married?"
"Anytime, Thomas," she grinned at him.

Eveline tipped back an extra cheeto bag into her mouth. "So what's the deal with you and that Freya girl?"
Lilah sighed, flipping through different movies on the tv screen. "I . . . kind of kissed her about a year ago when I stayed with her in New York. Turns out she had a boyfriend, said it was a drunk mistake. So I flew to London and stayed with Tom for two months, but then we had to go back for more filming. She's the stunt coordinator, and we've kind of just ignored it during training."
"Do you still have feelings for her?" Eveline asked, putting her feet up on the coffee table. She had gotten very comfortable in this house, and Lilah was glad, because that meant she was happy here. Felt safe; and that was what Lilah wanted for her youngest sister.
"No. I don't still have feelings for her." It was true, Lilah realized. She had moved on from the talented and stunning women named Freya, and that was good. Falling for a co-worker was notย a good idea.
"You do know that Tom has a major crush on you though, right?"
Lilah laughed. "Yes. We've been married for sixty-nine years, as he likes to say."
"Noโnot like thatโ" Eveline started, but the front door opened and Harrison and Tom came stumbling in.
Harrison was basically hauling Tom on his back, and a very annoyed look crossed his features. "Listen, I love Tom, but he seriously needs to get his shit together."
Lilah chuckled, "It went that good, huh?"
Tom gasped suddenly. "Is that her?"
"Yes, you prick, it's her." Lilah raised her brows at Harrison, but he just waved it off. "He won't stop talking about you."
"Will he now . . ." Eveline smirked sidelong at her sister.
"Just dump him in his bedroom," Lilah said. "He'll be asleep when he hits the pillow."
Harrison hauled Tom back onto his back and dragged him all the way to his bedroom. A few seconds later, she heard Harrison's door slam close, meaning he had taken the day off from his best friend.
Lilah picked a movie on the tv and started playing it, but just two minutes after it started, Tom started yelling her name. Seriously, he was like a toddler.
After five minutes of yelling, she couldn't stand it anymore, and just stood up from the couch to walk to his room. Eveline wiggled her eyebrows at her and continued with the movie. When Lilah got to Tom's room, she saw him taking his shirt off. She immediately put a hand over her eyes, to be respectful.
"Why are you taking off your shirt?" she asked.
"I'm hot."
She removed the hand from her eyes and took a look at him. Specifically not in hisย abdominal region. His face was paler than usual, and a little sweat covered his forehead. "Tom, I think you might have a fever, we need to call the doctor."
"You know what would make me feel better?" he asked, flopping back onto his bed.
Lilah pulled her phone out of her back pocket, searching for the number. Not really paying any attention, she muttered, "What?"ย
"Kisses from youuu."
"No."
"Okay what about hugs from youuu?"
"No."
"Cuddles?"
"No."
"Yes."
Less than a minute later, Lilah was reluctantly laying on her back in Tom's bed, one of his arms draped over her stomach as he smooshed his face in his pillow. She was still trying to find the number to the doctor's office, but it was nowhere to be seen. Damn her for having more than five contacts.
In one swift motion, Tom had gripped his hand on Lilah's side and pulled her towards his body, so that her back was against his bare chest. Her breath caught in her throat, and her entire body tensed up.
"I love you, Lilah darling."
She was fairly certain her heart skipped a beat. She ignored it and calmed her breathing. "Okay."
He pressed a kiss to her shoulder, and said those words again. The amount of anxiety that conjured up in her brain was massive. She felt like she couldn't breathe properly. After a while, soft snores were heard from Tom's mouth, and she relaxed her body.
Lilah slipped out from under his grasp, and rolled onto the floor. She focused on dialing the number to the doctor's office and not Tom's words. On letting him sleep and not the way his hand felt against her midriff. On shutting the door with ease and not the feeling like her knees would give out from the churning in her stomach.
What the fuck was that feeling?
Was she sick? Did she need to throw up?
"Eveline?" she called out. Her sister said she was in the kitchen, making more food. This girl really did eat a lot for a skinny teenager. "I think there's something wrong with my stomach."
"Okay, do you need to throw up?"
"No."
"Alright . . . has it hurt all day?" she asked.
"No, just a minute ago."
"What were doing in there?" Eveline questioned, her tone suggestive.
"Um, nothing much. He put his arm around me though, that was weird," Lilah said. Her youngest sister burst out laughing, holding her stomach as she tipped her head back. "I don't see what's so funny. I could be dying."
"You," she said, "had butterflies in your stomach. You likeeee him."
"Ew, no I do not."
As she walked back to the living room, basically an entire meal in her arms, Eveline laid a hand on her sister's shoulder and shook her head solemnly.
"i dO NOT!!"

It turns out, Tom had said that he loved the nurse who did his operation, the front desk woman, a random man on the street, Harrison on the drive home multiple timesโso it really hadn't meant anything.
But the next day, Lilah and his last week in Atlanta, the last scene in the movie, she had that feeling in her stomach again. And she wanted to punch herself for it.
The reason for that feeling, was that after completing the scene with Robert, where Peter and Eliza deny his offer to become Avengers, and then . . . then Peter holds Eliza hand for the first time.
The camera closes in on their interlaced fingers, Peter runs a thumb over the back of Eliza's hand. And the churning in Lilah's stomach occurred. But she fought it, ignored it completely, let go of Tom's hand at the end of the scene and forgot the entire thing happened.
But during this clip of the movie, Lilah and Zendaya had worked together to convince Jon to put a pride flag in the back round of the shot, flying alongside the Avenger's flag. Just to represent.
While it was the last scene in the movie, they still had to film the first scenes that the audience would see, which was Peter's video diaries. Everyone else in the cast was off the hook, enjoy the last week of summer in Atlanta and early fall, while Tom and Lilah were flown off to Berlin.
Along with, now, Eveline and Harrison.
But neither of them minded.
What did worry Lilah, was Eveline's level of safety. Getting through the airport without her parents permission, the fact that Lilah was basically kidnapping her, just likeโ
No. No, not like that.
These were the thoughts that had kept Lilah up the past three nights. Along with Tom's words. And not sleeping in the same bed at him. And missing the feel of his hand against her abdomen, one finger just sliding underneath the hem of her shirtโ
Without knocking, at four in the afternoon, after a day of filming and training with Freya, Tom barged into Lilah's room angrily.
He paced back and forth at the end of her bed, running a hand through his hair, muttering things to himself.
"Why are you so mad?" Lilah questioned.
"I need to expel some energy," he said quickly. She knew that meant he needed to go for a run. But out in the middle of nowhere, where the house was located, they had agreed to never go on a run alone.
Lilah sighed, and despite her body's barking protests, she slipped on some tennis shoes and followed him out of the front door.
He was talking, but she wasn't listening. The only few words she caught as they ran down the long road were: 'Sydney', 'publicity stunt', 'it wasn't in the contract', 'bad press', and a few others she couldn't recall.
Lilah was jogging considerably slower than Tom, about thirty paces behind him. But he hadn't noticed yet.
Her vision was going blurry, maybe she had forgotten to put in her contacts. It wasn't that. She was sleep deprived, hadn't slept in over three days.
The world tilted sideways, and the last thing Lilah felt was her elbows scraping against the pavement, and black. Deep, endless, black.
