Tom flopped back onto the mattress of his and Lilah's hotel room in Los Angeles, sighing loudly. Lilah and Rachel were in the bathroom, getting her dress ready. Honestly, how long did it even take to put on make up and a dress? He was already dressed in his suit, maroon with a white button up shirt underneath. He was unbelievably bored without Lilah to talk to, up until she came out of the bathroom. Finally.
"I forgot to ask you, how was your fake school experience last week?" she asked.
He chuckled, still staring up at the ceiling. "It was good. I told this girl that I was Spiderman but she didn't believe me."
"Lame. But maybe after today all the seventeen year old girls will know who you really are, secretly Clark Kent, even more secretly Superman."
"Wrong cinematic universe, Lilah."
"He's all like, oh I'm Superman, woopdedoopdedoo."
Tom laughed, turning his head to look at Lilah. She was putting earrings on, but she had something on her face. Cosmetics. Makeup. That was new. His eyes trailed down the rest of her outfit, over the dark red dress that she wore. The back of the skirt stopping just above the backs of her knees, the front shorter than that. Red lace made up the neck line of her dress, sweeping up just above her collar bones.
His throat bobbed as he gulped. "You look beautiful."
She flashed him a smile, still attempting to put in her earrings. "Thanks." She ran an eye down his suit. "Hey we're matching!"
"That," Rachel said, coming out of the bathroom with eyeliner in her hands, "would be my doing. I thought we could start a fun tradition," she smiled. "Alright darling, let's finish this eye makeup and get you guys out the door."
"More?"
"Yes, more."
Tom watched as Lilah got her makeup applied, studied the movements of her loose brown hair sliding over her shoulder, her shaking hands—her shaking hands? "Lilah are you okay?" he asked, getting to his feet.
"Yeah I'm fine." She gave him a small smile, but he could see that it didn't reach her sapphire eyes. He kept an eye on her while Rachel finished her makeup.
"Okay, all done," Rachel said. Tom and Lilah gave her their thanks as she gathered her things and left the room.
"Shoes?"
Lilah smirked and crouched down to pull her shoes out of her suitcase. She held up a pair of white high top converse converse. Tom sighed. "You do you, I guess." He glanced at his watch and started. "We gotta go."
In a rush, Lilah tugged on her converse and fixed her hair, Tom grabbed his phone and tossed Lilah the keys, then they were ready to go. They both took a deep breath, shook out their hands and legs, and left to go to the premiere.
⋆·˚ ༘ *🗡* ༘˚·⋆
To say Lilah was nervous was a drastic understatement.
The exact second she stepped out of that car, Tom right behind her, her mind was vacuous. And it stayed that way for the entire premiere.
A smile plastered on her slightly pink lips, she made her way through the red carpet smoothy. Her legs were shaking so much they threatened to crumble, but she willed strength into them, just to get through the red carpet. It was difficult though, with all the flashing lights and people yelling at her.
Somehow in the mix of things she had lost Tom, and that's what really had her on edge. Not having him right with her made her skin itch, like she was missing a mental safety shield.
As soon as she was done taking photos and just about ready to go have a panic attack in the bathroom, she spotted Chadwick and Elizabeth out of the corner of her eye, running up to her. "LILAH HIIIIIIIIII!!" they both screamed.
When she smiled then, it wasn't completely fake.
"I just walked past Evans and Downey, some serious tea is going down about Robert's birthday that I thought you might enjoy," Chadwick nudged her in the side.
"I'll make sure to stop by, thank you," Lilah gave him a sly grin and turned to Elizabeth. "You look amazing, oh my god." She was wearing a gorgeous white dress, that hugged her curves and arcs beautifully.
"Thank you madam," she sketched a bow. "How was London?"
"It was alright, although I did try ordering coffee and they kicked me out."
"It looks like you and Tom matched a little. Loving the converse," she laughed. "I just saw Tom doing an interview, so you might want to do one of those soon."
"I have to do an interview?" Lilah forced her fingertips to stop shaking.
Unfortunately Chadwick caught her before she could slip them into the pockets of her dress. "I can go with you, if you'd like," he offered.
Lilah looked up and gave him a small, but grateful smile. "Thank you."
"Anytime, tiny one." He linked his arm through hers and they swerved around to walk back to the red carpet.
---
Tom tried not to look too panicked as he walked around the event, occasionally taking pictures with fans, and surprisingly, Mark Hamill. There were two reasons that he was searching for Lilah. One, to tell her that Luke Skywalker was there and he got a picture with him, and two, he was worried about her.
The moment both of them stepped out of that car, she was off on her own. Something in the back of his brain while they got ready an hour before told him to keep her close, to not let her go off on her own, because he knew she would be nervous.
Over the sea of people, he saw Lilah arm in arm with Chadwick, laughing and talking with an interviewer. He let out a long breath of relief and jogged over to them. But through the crowd, by the time he got there, Lilah was already gone.
He rushed over to Chadwick. "Hey mate, do you know where Lilah went?"
"Yeah, she just said she needed to leave. Went that direction," he pointed to the left.
"Doesn't the movie start in like ten minutes? Why does she need to leave?" Tom asked.
"I don't know? Go ask her."
"Right right right, thanks dude." Chadwick rolled his eyes and watched Tom saunter off quickly. He wandered around looking for her, but she was no where to be seen. Someone who had a microphone announced that they would be starting the movie in five minutes.
He passed the bathrooms and janitors closet, but stopped suddenly by the latter when he heard a crash from inside. His brows knitted together, he slowly knocked on the closet door. "You alright in there?"
Someone cleared their throat and said in an obviously faked deep voice, "Yeahyeahyeah, I-I'm good."
He sighed. "Lilah, I know it's you in there."
There was a minute of silence where more crashing noises were heard, then an ouch, then the door opened. Lilah stepped into view, a nervous and wobbly smile on her lips. The color had drained from her face, making the freckles that danced across the bridge of her nose stand out. His face immediately filled with worry when he saw the panic in her eyes, how her chest rose and fell at a rapid pace.
He reached out to take her hands in his, not asking if she was alright, because it was obvious she wasn't. People in the hallway passed them, talking loudly and laughing. Lilah's eyes darted around, gazing at them and not him.
"Hey, look at me," he said softly. Those starlight filled eyes met his, pulling him into the closet and shutting the door. Her hands didn't leave his.
Her breathing pace picked up, and he could tell it wasn't just because of their close proximity, due to the size of the closet. He slowly leaned in to press his brow against hers.
"There's a lot of people out there," she laughed nervously, her breath just grazing his bottom lip.
"Focus on me," he said quietly.
"I'm fine, I just got a little anxious." She backed up from him, only to hit a supply shelf. Her fists clenched and unclenched, and she rolled her neck. "Can you talk to me?" she asked quickly. "Just—tell me about your day or something."
"Um, sure," he thought about it, "I got up, and you were sleeping next to me. Always a pleasure," There was a hint of smugness in his voice that made her lips tweak to the side. She closed her eyes and leaned her head against his shoulder. His arms went to wrap around her back. "I didn't draw anything on your face in marker, which took some effort."
Lilah smiled into his chest.
"Then I thought about what happens when we die—question: do you believe in the afterlife?"
She was quiet for a bit. "I don't really know, but I think John Mulaney's theory is pretty good."
"And what is that?"
"He said that if there's a Hell, he thinks it's an encyclopedia, and you can flip through the pages and look up what everyone in your life thought about you. And if there's a Heaven, it's a Wikipedia, so you can just change that."
Tom's laugh rumbled through her body. "I like it."
For a few more minutes, while Lilah calmed her heart rate, focused on breathing, it was quiet. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Hmm?"
"Who's your favorite member of One Direction?"
He didn't even hesitate to answer, "Oh, Louis. Obviously. He's always been my favorite."
"I like Niall."
"Niall the bad boy?"
She pulled back from his warm chest to look him in the eyes. "Niall the bad boy? Give it a rest. Niall the cHuRch boy is more like it."
A smile grew on Tom's lips, and he let out a soft snort. She grinned up at him.
Abruptly, someone knocked on the door and said, "Tom and Lilah if you guys are fucking please stop because the movie is starting." It was Sebastian.
"Ew, no we're not!" Lilah yelled, stepping out of Tom's touch to open the door. Sebastian and Sydney were standing outside, both dressed very nicely.
The four of them stood there for an awkward moment until Sydney told them, "You guys are aware you can't date, right?"
"Why not?" Tom asked, agitated. Lilah squinted her eyes at him, cocking her head to the side.
"Because you'd break the internet," Sydney said. Not a very good answer. Sebastian grabbed both their elbows and dragged them down the hall.
"The movie started five minutes ago, so you guys are going to have to sit on the floor," he said.

After the movie was over, including the extra scene that had Tom and Lilah in it, after everyone was already leaving the private screening, Tom turned to gaze at Lilah. She was sitting next to him, (on a carpeted step—there were no more available seats, as Sebastian had said), staring up at the now blank screen.
Her lips were slightly parted, almost as if she was in shock. At the thought, he quickly said, "You good?"
Slowly, her head turned to the left to look at him, and a smile made its way to her lips. "Tom, we're in a fucking Marvel movie."
He threw her a grin. "It's pretty cool."
She gawked at him. "Pretty cool???? Tom, this is- holy shit!" Gesturing to the event still going on around them, she went on, "We're gonna be in five of these movies. That's insane! And people might want to see more of us in different movies or maybe even tv shows- that would be crazy."
Tom watched her flop back onto the floor. "Did you not know that when you signed the contract?"
"No, I-I knew that stuff." Judging by her tone, she had no idea what she was doing when she signed that piece of paper. Which was surprising, because she was a very paranoid person.
Cheering was heard from behind them, through the doors of the private theater. The event would only be going for another half hour, and neither of them had yet to say hello to half the cast. Tom grabbed Lilah's hand and rose to his feet, pulling her with him.

Hours later, following the premiere and catching up with the rest of the cast, after Tom and Lilah had journeyed back to the hotel, both of them were on an adrenaline rush from all the free candy that was served at the event.
"Lilahlilahlilahlilahlilhalilah, guess what," Tom said, jumping up and down on their bed.
"Tomtomtomtomtomtomtom, what?"
He plopped down on the mattress. "It's almost midnight," he said, "and we have to fly to Atlanta tomorrow... but I'm not tired."
"We could stay up all night and play Uno, the flight's not until four in the afternoon."
"No, I have stuff to do tomorrow." Lilah peered at him curiously. 'What could he possibly have going on in a city he's never been to?' she thought. He sighed, "I need to expel some energy. Come on let's go for a run."
"You told me it was dangerous to go on a run at night," she pointed out.
"Unless you have a companion," he reasoned. "That companion being yours truly."
She scoffed, but saw that knees were bouncing up and down involuntarily, meaning she also needed to remove some of her own energy. Groaning, she got up out of the bed and put on her tennis shoes.
---
The morning after the Captain America: Civil War World Premiere, Lilah woke up on somebody's chest. The sun was just coming up through the windows, and she scowled at the open curtains, her eyes still shut closed. The person who's chest she was lying on shifted in their sleep, and she noticed they had an arm around her back.
She squinted her eyes open a millimeter to see a soft, muscled arm in front of her, along with a few strands of her hair. But they were moved out of her eyes by Tom's other hand, his slightly callused palm just grazing against her cheek.
Lilah's eyes fluttered closed again, even as her cheeks warmed. Tom slowly got to his feet, lowering Lilah's head onto the pillow, and rummaged around the room to gather his things. In the next two hours after that, she fell back asleep, only waking when she felt a soft kiss press against her forehead, and when she heard the hotel room door quietly click closed.
When she awoke again, the curtains had been closed, but she could still see a bit of sun poking through and shining onto the bed. She sat up and yawned, rubbing her eyes. Where had Tom gone? Yesterday he had said he had to be somewhere...
Lilah got up out of the bed and went to the bathroom, thoughts of her and Tom's midnight adventure floating through her head.
When both of them were pretty worn out, feeling like they were going to crash after all that sugar, Lilah noticed Tom's pace starting to slow down, and challenged him to a race. He was very caught off guard by it, so she won by a lot. Once he finally caught up with her, he took a minute to breathe while Lilah smirked in triumph.
When she wasn't expecting it, though, he tackled her to the ground and onto the patch of grass just by the beach. It was a nice night, summer was just beginning to dawn on the beachfront, so the air was nice and warm, even for the time of day. The stars were out, and as Tom and Lilah lay on the grass, she thought about what it would be like to be one. A star.
"I mean all your star buddies would be lightyears away," Tom had said when she asked him about it. "Would it really be worth it?"
"I think it would be nice because you could get away from everyone else, you know? You'd also be an entire planet, so you could explore it."
"Ew that sounds so wrong," he made a face. "That'd be like, exploring your own body."
Lilah snorted, folding her hands over her abdomen. They laid in silence, listening to the sounds of the waves crashing just a few feet away from their toes, staring up at the night sky.
Tom said quietly, "What if laid under the stars and talked all night?" She angled her head to the side to look at him, only to find him already staring at her. At her eyes. "What if we forgot about everyone else, just for one night."
Lilah fought her smile as she thought about the memory. It was intimate, sure. Romantic, even. But where in the hell had he gone?
When it came to be around three in the afternoon, an hour before their flight, Lilah gave up looking for him and left the hotel. In the hours before that, she had called and called him—he didn't pick up—packed her suitcase, done a clean sweep of the room, cleaned more of the room, and waited for him to come back.
At the airport alone, she tried not to flinch as she walked past the 'Staff Only' room, remembering when that man had—
She shook it off, and handed a woman her plane ticket to board, looking back once more to see if Tom had come to board with her. He wasn't anywhere that she could see, so she walked across the bridge and onto the airplane.
About an hour into the flight, during which she picked at her finger nails and bounced her foot up and down continuously, surely annoying her fellow passengers, she rummaged through her bag, and found a note at the bottom.

It was written in slightly wobbly lettering, but it looked like he had worked really hard to draw the little flowers that bordered the small piece of paper. She smiled and leaned her head back against the head rest.
