[the picture above is Charlie at the carnival]

The next day was Thunder Road, then it was the last day of school. Honestly, the year past me by so quickly, I just wished I could freeze the picture and live in this time forever. It seemed like everyone was getting along and life was great.

We were in the garage, watching Kenickie hop into his car and feel up the steering wheel. I felt Doody and Sonny pick me up and hoist me over into the car. I squealed as Kenickie brought me down into the passenger's seat.

"You throne, m'lady," he smirked as he smoked his cigarette.

"Nice throne," I said, feeling the red leather seats. He started the car and started to drive out of the garage with Mrs. Murdock sitting up in the back. I've asked Kenickie, but there's no relation. She's just like a friend. But, they're just like mother and son. It's eerie.

We were out of the garage, now, Danny pointing us forward.

"Get it out!" He said over Kenickie's revving of the engine. "C'mon guys."

Doody was rolling in front of us on one of those rolling resting pad thingys, pointing as well but Kenickie didn't see him. Putzie and Sonny ran out, grabbing some last minute touch-up items. Danny rounded the car.

"Oh, well," Mrs. Murdock sighed. "It's in great shape, and it's as hot as the parts on it," she said, pointedly.

"Hey, we didn't steal all of it, some of it was donated!" Sonny said.

"Yeah, this baby is gonna knock 'em on their rears on Thunder Road," Kenickie mumbled into his cigarette.

"You could still change your mind," Doody said. Both Kenickie and I blew smoke into his face. I guess Kenickie learned that from me too.

"The flag goes down in three hours," Mrs. Murdock said, leaning over to Kenickie.

"Lighting strikes," Kenickie smirked, hitting Danny's chest. I scrunched my nose at his attempt at a catchphrase, but didn't say anything.

"Hey, Mrs. Murdock are you comin'?" Putzie asked excitedly.

"I don't expect my boys to let me down," she said as she started to climb out with me and Kenickie. "So I won't let them down either."

"Yeah Mrs. Murdock!" The gang laughed.

"I wanna talk to you," Danny said to Kenickie as he slung his arm over my shoulders. I expected this to be private so I started to walk away, only for Kenickie to pull me with him.

"I was kinda hopin' this'll be private," he said to Kenickie.

"Whatever you gotta say, you can say in front of Charlie," Kenickie mumbled into his cigarette. My heart sped up at his actions and words, making me love him even more.

"Look, those guys you're goin' against, they don't fool around, you know that," Danny said. He looked at me. "She knows that too."

I felt Kenickie's arms tighten around my shoulders. "What? You-you want me to punk out?" He asked as he threw his cigarette down and stomped on in

"No I'm not sayin' punkin' out, I'm just sayin'..." Danny trailed, looking at Kenickie with soft eyes. "You know what I mean."

Kenickie looked down at the ground, his hand finding mine and I gave an encouraging squeeze.

"Aye- aye, Danny, uh," Kenickie stuttered. "We've been friends a long time, right?"

"Yeah," Danny reassured.

"Well y-ya remember the drive-in, the other night, and then movie and the duel and the guy's best friend went with him and it was like his lieutenant and he was his second, ya know?" Kenickie rambled.

"Yeah, so?" Danny said, not knowing what Kenickie was getting at.

"Yeah, well, I thought that maybe you could be my second at Thunder Road," Kenickie said, looking down again, embarrassed. I grinned wide at this, knowing it took a lot for Kenickie to say that.

"Whaddya mean? You-you want me to drive with you?" Danny asked.

"No..." Kenickie mumbled. He sighed and looked back up at Danny.

"Oh," he breathed. He started chuckling and hit Kenickie's shoulder. "Hey."

Kenickie started laughing, and I mean actually laughing. He punched him back and soon, the two boys were hugging. I smiled at the sight.

They soon realized that they had an audience and broke apart.

"Alright, listen, so I'll pick ya up at three?" Kenickie asked Danny as he combed his hair. I picked up the cigarette that fell from behind Kenickie's ear and walked over to the car, smiling like an idiot at the bromance.

"Aye, open up the door, whaddya guys sittin' around for?" Kenickie yelled at the rest of the boys as Danny walked off.

"Get the can off the front of the car, ya Putz!" Kenickie yelled at Putzie as I hopped into the passenger's seat. Putzie grabbed can of oil and placed it far from the car. Kenickie revved the car as Doody continued to shine in like it was about it speed off. I smiled at the boys and waved at them as we drove slowly over to the quad where Kenickie said he wanted to double check the engine.

He popped the top open, but not before I caught sight of the duck-fuzz, raven-haired girl over at the outside portion of the hallway.

I saw Patty Simcox and her friends laugh at her and I growled. "Wish that snake had bitten her," I grumbled.

"What was that?" Kenickie asked, popping his head back up from the the top.

"Nothin'," I said as I opened the car door. "I'm gonna go see a friend."

"Yeah," Kenickie mumbled, too into his work to acknowledge my absence.

I walked over to Rizzo and watched her walk down the hallway, like she was talking or singing to herself.

"I don't steal, and I don't lie! But I can feel, and I can cry!" She sang. My heart broke as I heard the next part.

"But to cry in front of you," she said. "That's the worst thing I can do..."

She peeked over the pillar that was separating us and she spotted me. She quickly went back behind the pillar. I rushed over to her.

"Riz?" I asked hesitantly. I saw her, chewing her thumbnail again, looking at me and her eyes darting everywhere.

"I'm gonna do it," she said.

"What? Do what?" I asked.

"I'm gonna see if I'm really pregnant," she said.

"Oh, Rizzo, that's great!" I said encouragingly. "Do you want me to come too?"

"Nah," she waved her hand at me. "This is something I need to do myself."

"Oh," I smiled at her. "Okay."

"Tell Kenick I said good luck," she said, jutting her head over to where he was finishing up with the car.

"I will," I said. I nodded once at her and she turned on her heel, walking down the hall. I watched her go and finally left as well.

"Rizzo says good luck," I told Kenickie as he was pulling out of the parking lot.

"Really?" He asked me in surprise.

"Yeah," I said as I tried to pull some of my hair from my lips.

"Oh," he said.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothin', just that maybe she doesn't hate me."

"She never did," I told him.

We arrived at Thunder Road by going into the tiny tunnel under the overpass. We arrived in the dried up reservoir and parked near the place where I smashed my father's car, which coincidentally, was still there.

I had on my Pink Ladies jacket and some tight black pants with some high heels. I wore a pink blouse this time, a little spirit never hurt.

Doody, Putzie and Sonny all showed up in a light blue car and the Pink Ladies (sans Rizzo) showed up in a pink one.

Kenickie and I picked Danny up, but I was allowed to stay upfront. I got out alongside them. Going over to Kenickie's side at the sight of Leo. Kenickie held me close. He threw his cigarette to the ground, not bothering to put it out.

Leo came walking forward. Kenickie looked at me and I gave him a quick peck on his lips, just for his sake. He left me, walking in front to meet Leo.

"So you guys think you got a winner there, huh?" Leo asked, pointing at Greased Lightnin'. His eyes landed on mine for a split second and I saw sadness in them, but he quickly masked it.

"That's right," Kenickie said, pocketing his sunglasses.

"Yeah, well it takes more than a coat of paint to make it a Thunder Road," Leo smirked.

"Oh yeah?" Kenickie shot back.

"You guys ain't thinkin' 'bout changin' your mind, are ya?" Leo teased.

"No way," Kenickie said in a deep voice.

"Good, 'cause we're racing for pinks," Leo snarled. I rolled my eyes. The cars are going to be beat up after, you could only use the parts.

"Pinks?" Danny asked.

"Pinks, you punk! Pink slips? Ownership papers?" Leo smirked at Danny.

"Har har har..." Danny started laughing under his breath but it turned to a growl as he started to advance.

Kenickie caught him, just before he was about to throw a punch.

"C'mon, Zuk! Zuk! C'mon," Kenickie said, pushing him back to where I was. "Don't worry about it, alright? I'll take care of it."

Kenickie brought me close. "Don't let him fight."

I nodded once as I took Danny over to where the T-Birds car was. I walked back over to Kenickie. I saw Cha Cha give Leo something from her cleavage. It was a medallion of some sort, a good luck charm.

Damn, I should've thought of that. Eh, I always thought good luck charms brought bad luck.

"What did she give him?" Jan asked, cocking her head.

"A lock of hair," Marty said. "From her chest!"

Leo and Cha Cha locked lips very passionately. I huffed out a sigh as I waited for the damn race to start.

"You good?" Kenickie asked me.

"You're askin' me?" I laughed. He just smirked and dipped his head down to kiss me. I deepened the kiss. Half because I was scared and half because I really do love Kenickie.

"Poor Kenickie," Jan moped. I rolled my eyes and broke away from him.

I heard her gasp. "See a penny, pick it up. All day long you'll have good luck!"

"Gimme that!" Marty said, holding out the penny like it was something disgusting.

"If it were in any better condition, she would fly," Mrs. Murdock said, talking about the car.. I didn't see her until recently.

"Yeah, well, she's gonna," Kenickie smirked at me with his arm over my shoulders.

"Here Kenickie, I brought you a little something for good luck," Marty said, a smile plastered on her face. I smirked at her.

"Aw gee, thanks," Kenickie said with his hand out, but Marty dropped the penny, making Kenickie bend down to get it. I saw Putzie in the driver's seat about to get out.

"Wait, no, Putz-!" I yelled, but it was too late. Kenickie was knocked out cold, his tire medallion necklace falling over his face.

"Nickie," I said as I bend down to level with him as he laid on the floor. I ripped my jacket off. "Here, put this under his head."

Marty helped me adjust the jacket so that his head won't be on the ground. I heard the Scorpions laughing like crazy.

"Zuko, Charlie, he's out cold," Sonny said. Kenickie started to stir.

"Babe?" I asked, caressing the side of his face.

"Kenickie?" Danny asked.

"Huh?" Kenickie mumbled, looking up at us.

"Kenickie, talk to me buddy, huh? You okay?" Danny asked.

"Huh? Oh, yeah I'm okay, I'm fine," Kenickie laughed. He tried to sit up, but you could tell that he was just so weak and he laid back down.

"You can't drive," Mrs. Murdock said.

"Hey, no really. I-I'm alright," Kenickie looked up at me. "I-I'm just seein' two of ya Charls..."

My heart fluttered at the new nickname that he pronounce, 'Sharles'.

"Hey, you want me to drive for you, huh?" Danny asked.

"Yeah," Kenickie nodded after a while. "Yeah."

We helped him up, Danny asked me to stay with him. I was going to anyways. Danny got into the car, started it.

"Hey," Leo said, getting the attention of everyone. "Rules are, there ain't no rules. It's 'til the second bridge and back and the the one that makes it here first, wins."

"Haul ass, kid," Mrs. Murdock said encouragingly.

"Good luck," I smiled as him and kissed his cheek.

"Babe!" Kenickie yelled after me as he sat on the the slanted wall.

"Coming!" I yelled after him. I went back to him and had him sit in between my legs.

Cha Cha used her neck scarf for a flag, and as soon as she dropped it, we all raced to the closest wall and sat down there. Kenickie was cheering long with me.

"C'mon Greased Lightnin'! C'mon babe!" Kenickie yelled.

"Hey!" I yelled down at him.

"You'll always be my first babe," he said quickly. I smiled at that and watched as Danny began to pick up the first place spot.

I watched in awe as he flew Greased Lightnin' in the air and left Leo in the disgusting water. His car floated to a stop and Danny stepped on the brake, flashing a huge white smile at Leo. Leo just sighed, stretching back in frustration.

We all ran to where Danny was, singing 'He's a Jolly Good Fellow'. I noticed that Sandy was here. She seemed sad about something, though I don't know what. Maybe something to do with the dance? I remember Danny and Cha Cha danced together. Or maybe it was something that happened at the drive-in.

Whatever it was, Frenchy ran up to her and they were talking.

"We won, babe!" Kenickie laughed excitedly. He wrapped his arms around my waist and picked me up and spun me around. I laughed and he caught my lips with his, giving me full passion.

I could have asked for a more perfect scene than what was before me. My friends, happy. My boyfriend, happy. Me, happy.

The next day was the last day of school. The PSA rang, the xylophone with its usual tune. I noticed this time that it rang on for an additional three seconds before it was put to an abrupt stop. One more ding sounded before Mrs. McGee spoke.

"Attention seniors, before the merriment of commencement commences, I hope that your years here at Rydell High have prepared you for the challenges you face..."

Her voice seemed to drone one as the day did as well. The bell rang and all of the students ran out of the door. I stuck with Marty, Frenchy and Jan as we walked out to the carnival. I laughed as Marty wobbled over to the cotton candy machine.

"Charlie," I heard my name behind me and I turned, seeing Rizzo.

"Hey Riz," I greeted her.

"We gotta talk," she said, pulling me over to the Ferris wheel.

"What's this about?" I asked as we were in line. "The baby?"

"Yeah," she said quickly.

"Well?" I asked.

"Not here," she said.

We were on one of the cart on the Ferris wheel, looking over Venice city. We didn't speak for two rotations, but for the last one, Riz spoke up.

"I'm not pregnant," she said quietly. In my mind, I was jumping for joy, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings.

"Are you okay with that?" I asked,

"I'm more than okay, I'm relieved," she smiled at me.

"I hope this means that we can put this Kenickie mess behind us?" I asked her.

"Yeah, you guys are better off with each other," she smiled. I grinned and hugged her, almost making us tip over. We laughed about the situation the rest of the rotation.

"Charlie!" I heard a familiar voice call for me down below. It was Kenickie. He was by a photo booth, looking up at Rizzo and I.

"Rizzo!" He called too. "Get off of that thing, you got a condition!"

"Forget it, it was a false alarm," she yelled back down.

"What?" He asked.

"She's not pregnant!" I practically screamed excitedly as Rizzo jumped from her seat.

"Woo!" Kenickie yelled form his spot. He raced to us as we got off. I started walking down the steps when he came up to me and grabbed my waist.

"I'll make an honest woman out of you," Kenickie said, looking me up and down.

"Who says I'm not honest?" I shot back, not looking at him just to make him sweat.

"That's a boom-a-fied offer," he said softly to me, bringing my face close to his.

"I would've said yes anyways," I chuckled.

"Yeah?" He chuckled back. He smiled as he dipped his head down, kissing me deeply.

"Oh my god!" I exclaimed, pulling back.

"What?" He asked.

"I forgot about Sandy!"

"That posh chick?"

"She ain't posh no more," I said, running off to find the girls.

I found them by the porta potties and they were making sure Sandy was all good. Frenchy called me up last night, talking about how Sandy wants to turn greaser. I agreed to help as long as it was her decision, not peer pressure.

"Make her hair look like a loofa," I said to Frenchy who was busy spraying her hair.

"Very funny," she mocked a laugh as she finished off Sandy's look. If I was being honest, her hair could look a little less like a loofa. And her shoes could've at least be black to match. But, she was very hot in my opinion so I let it slide.

"Okay Sandy, remember what to say?" I asked her.

"Tell me about, stud," she recited back in a monotone accent. I shook my head.

"No, it's more like 'Tell me about... stud'," I said, batting my eyes and acting slutty. Sandy nodded.

"Okay, got it," she said in her new greaser accent. I gave her a big thumbs-up.

"Okay girls," I said. "Let's go get 'em."

We started walking to where I last saw Danny, which was right by the danger house thing. I was walking in front of Sandy, to ward off any unwanted guys, but they surrounded her anyways. I pushed her in front of me as we reached Danny.

"Sandy!" I heard him exclaim.

"Tell me about it... stud," she said and I ,outhed them behind her, grinning when she pulled it off perfectly.

"I got chills! They're multiplyin'," Danny sang loudly. "And I'm losin' control, from the power you're supplyin'. It's electrifyin'!"

Danny fell to the ground, by Sandy's feet. Sandy took off her jacket and threw it someplace. Sandy looked at us, not knowing what to do next. I signaled along with Marty to throw the cigarette down and put it out with her foot.

"You better shape up..." Sandy sang to Danny. Actually, her hair wasn't that bad, but it still could be better.

I left after she and Danny went into the danger house and walked over to Kenickie who slapped someone's ice cone out of their hands.

"Really?" I asked, hugging his side.

"Some things you can never fix," he smirked.

"Like slapping someone's things out of their hands?"

"I've only done that once," he justified.

"Nah, I remember the first day of school, the very first time I saw you was when you slapped a kid's book out of his hands." I smiled at the memory.

"Can we make it a different time?" He asked.

"Nope," I said. He shrugged and kissed me again, this time we didn't break apart until Danny pushed Sonny onto the strength measurer. I glared at Sonny as he sheepishly got up.

"Wop ba-ba lu-mop !" Danny yelled into the air.

"Wop bam boom!" Everyone else yelled back.

"We go together, Like rama lama lama, ka dinga da dinga dong! Remembered forever like shoo-bop she wadda wadda yippity boom de boom," we all sang
as we hugged each other and walked in a line. Kenickie and I popped up on either side of Sandy and Danny.

"Chang chang changitty chang sha-bop, that's the way it should be!" We laughed at each other.

"Wah-oooh, yeah!" Jan and Putzie joined up under the arms of Kenickie and Sandy and Danny.

"We're one of a kind, like dip da-dip da-dip doo-wop da doo-bee doo," we sang.

"Our names are signed," Sonny and Marty joined. Sonny on my side and Marty on Kenickie's.

"Boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy," I caught Kenickie pretending to motorboat Marty and reached over and hit him upside the head. Rizzo was at my hip, motorboating Sonny in turn.

"Shooby doo-wop she-bop, chang chang changitty chang sha-bop," we all looked at each other.

"We'll always be like one, wa-wa-wa-one," most of us kneeled and we threw our hands up. "When we go out at night, and stars are shinin' bright!"

"Up in the skies above. Or at the high school dance! Where you can find romance! Maybe it might be love," we sang and I looked at Kenickie. We smiled at each other at the lyric. We all broke off to our partners now. I was hugging Kenickie as the gang went with their partners. He lifted his arms to do his hair and I rolled my eyes.

"Rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong!" Jan and Putzie danced like gorillas.

"Shoo-bop sha wadda wadda yippity boom de boom," Marty and Sonny danced together.

"Chang chang changitty chang sha-bop," Rizzo and a random guy sang.

"Dip da-dip da-dip doo-wop da doo-bee doo," Frenchy and Doody sang.

"Boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy shoo-be doo-wop she-bop," Kenickie and I 'boogied' to a different spot.

"Sha-na-na-na-na-na-na-na yippity dip de doom," everyone with their partners did a toe-step and bounced off and ran to the otherside of the carnival.

"Rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong!"

"Shoo-bop sha wadda wadda yippity boom de boom!"

"Chang chang changitty chang sha-bop!"

"Dip da-dip da-dip doo-wop da doo-bee doo!"

"Boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy shoo-be doo-wop she-bop!"

"Sha-na-na-na-na-na-na-na yippity dip de doom!"

"Wop ba-ba lu-mop and wop bam boom!" Sandy and Danny jumped into the center of the entire festival. I noticed she took her shoes off. Thank god, I hated them.

Random people were dancing and hopping and skipping and being lively and happy. Kenickie and I joined the gang at the back of the dancing people until they parted and made a lane for us.

"We're for each other, like a wop ba-ba lu-bop and wop bam boom," we sang. "Just like my brother is sha-na-na-na-na-na-na-na yippity dip de doom."

"Chang chang chanitty chang sha-bop! We'll always be together!" I got on Kenickie's back and we all belted out the last lyrics.

"Wha oooh, yeah!"

"We'll always be together!" We all repeated.

Patty and Tom were first to go through the line and get their yearbooks. It was then Jan and Putzie, Frenchy and Doody, then Sonny and Marty along with Rizzo trailing behind. It was Kenickie and our's turn and when we ran through the line with his arm wrapped around my shoulders, I swear I felt like I could fly.

I received my yearbook and so did Kenickie. He tried to make me hold his, but I grabbed them and hit his stomach. He let out and 'Omph' and grabbed both yearbooks, wrapping his arm around my neck and kissing me deeply as we walked off to the side.

We saw Danny and Sandy leave in the car that we won at Thunder Road. We painted it like the original idea for Greased Lightnin', and gave it to Danny. Kenickie kept the original.

We all waved to them goodbye as they rode off into the distance. I smiled as I saw them go.

"We're gonna be okay?" I asked Kenickie.

"Yeah," he smiled down at me. We kissed, short and sweet. But that's how I liked it. Just like this amazing year of 1959, it was short and sweet.
