I went back to my crate and watched the guys work. Kenickie was focused on his part of the car. Trying to shine pieces of metal and screwing things into the car. Once he decided he needed a break, he lifted himself under and out of the car. He made his way over to me, looking over his shoulder at his car. He turned back to me, smiling widely.
"How you like Greased Lightnin' so far, huh?" Kenickie raised his eyebrows. He waited eagerly, leaning on another stack of crates in front of me.
"It's a work in progress," I started slowly, not wanting to hurt his feelings. "But it looks great!"
As soon as those words left my mouth, Sonny yelped in pain as the bumper fell off. It created a huge clashing noise. I winced as the guys rushed over to fix it. Kenickie looked over in disgust, huffing, and trudging back to yell at Sonny. I smiled at the sight. Some things will never change.
Once the boys had enough of fixing Greased Lightnin', they all wanted to gather up for a meeting at Frosty Palace. Danny invited me to join and I agreed. Maybe I need some time away from the school and Pink Ladies.
Danny, Sonny and Putzie all gathered into Danny's car and set off. Kenickie took his car down and hopped into the driver's seat. Doody jumped into the back, laying out. There wasn't any room for me except the front. I glared at Doody who only winked in response. I opened the door for the passenger's seat and Kenickie put his arm on the back of my seat, making me blush madly. I turned my head to the side to hide it.
Doody cat-whistled and I took an empty can of Pepsi and threw it into the back seat, successfully hitting him. I smiled at his wince and continued to look out the window at the blur of green.
Once we got to Frosty Palace, I hopped out immediately. Doody was opening his door and I stopped him.
"That was a dick move, Doody." I looked at him in the eye and he visibly shrinked. I smirked and slammed the door on him. He yelped in pain, grabbing his injured crotch. I snorted at what I just did. That was completely unintentional, but it's what he deserved for that trick.
I walked into Frosty Palace, passing Kenickie and Danny who were standing outside. Once inside, I saw Putzie and Sonny bickering in a small booth. I smiled and pretended to hit their heads together.
"Hey!"
"Charlie!" I smirked at them and pulled a cigarette out. Unsure if this was a no-smoking diner, I stepped outside. Doody ran inside to the booth and Danny and Kenickie were still outside. I made sure to be off to the side, not wanting to have any unwanted attention towards me. I lit my cigarette and blew out smoke.
All of a sudden, a roar of an engine could be heard down the street. I looked up and saw it. That dreaded car from last night. The black one with orange and red flames on it. The one with the blond guy. The one with those guys who forced themselves on me. I still have the piece of paper he left stuffed in my bra.
They almost ran over two people on the street, making their books and papers fly everywhere. They ran over the books and continued to laugh. The blond made eye connection with me when he passed by, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. I shuddered.
"You know those Scorpions, man, they're askin' for it." Kenickie said, pointing his cigarette in the direction of the car. Danny's shoulders tensed up. If he's anything like me, he'd be thinking about last night. And he didn't say anything.
"Hey man, you still thinkin' 'bout that chick?" Kenickie looked at his friend in concern. Danny snapped out of his daze, turning to look at Kenickie.
"What? No way." Danny smirked nonchalantly at him, shaking his head.
"What? I was just thinkin'-" Kenickie said, shrugging his shoulders and making his way inside.
"Yeah? Stop thinkin' so much." Danny followed him inside and the door closed on the two. I smiled at the bromance and threw my cigarette on the ground, about to follow them inside.
All of a sudden, I was pulled from my spot and was pinned to the brick wall that was the side of Frosty Palace. Once I got my bearings I realized I was face-to-face with Crater Face. The sight of him made me want to vomit. The memories of last night came rushing back and tears started to roll down my face.
"I got a proposal," Crater Face smirked. I gritted my teeth and tried to push off of him but he was too strong. I looked him up and down with disgust.
"Definitely a no," I said, pushing him off again. He slammed me against the wall again and I looked at him with anger through my lashes.
"It's the kind where it's non-negotiable," he said with a sickening smile.
"He knows his big words!" I teased.
"Watch your mouth, Princess." He sneered at me and got closer.
"No pet names!" I yelled. He clamped a hand over my mouth. I had no desire to lick it but given the current situation, I had to.
"You bitch!" He growled. He whipped out his switch knife and held it against my cheek, the cool metal close to piercing my cheek. "With my proposal, I get to call you whatever I want."
"What kind of proposal are you even talking about?" I rolled my eyes.
"A business proposal," his eyes went soft. "A gang-business proposal."
"Sure," I said. "Why on earth would I agree to anything you propose?"
"Because I'm sure Murdoch would love to hear that I was the last Rizzo boned before him and I know that the Pink Ladies ain't allowed to fool around with us Scorpions." An animalistic glint was in his eyes and he was obviously proud of his blackmailing.
"You're disgusting," I said, legitimately scared.
"Maybe. I just need one thing from you," he lead on.
"What is it?" I asked. I'm obviously not going to give in, right?
"Cha Cha's been... distant lately," he started.
"What? Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?" I asked rhetorically.
"What I'm saying is..." he growled at me. "I need someone to fill her spot by my side for the race tomorrow."
"What? You want me? Why?" I asked, surprised he chose me.
"You're close to Kenickie and I know your type. You would do anything to protect those girls, even Rizzo. You know those girls need a leader and you're barely pastel."
"Why do people keep on saying that?" I asked. He only smiled and continued.
"If you don't do what I ask, the Pink Ladies will be without a leader. An who will fill that position? Marty? Frenchie? Jan? No, they're not fit for it, they're the sheep. But you," he trailed the knife down my cheek to my neck. "You're perfect."
"Am I supposed to jump into your arms?" I asked sarcastically.
"Later," he smirked. "Be at Thunder Road at three. If you ain't there, I send this to Murdoch."
He pulled out a black and white photo with two people kissing. The girl had a drink in her hand, she was obviously drunk. And it was obviously Rizzo. And she was kissing Crater Face. If this got out, Kenickie would be crushed. The Pink Ladies would have no choice but kick her out and they would be without a leader. But me? I just met them. If I got kicked out, Kenickie wouldn't care, the girls would be fine and no one would suffer but me. And I'm fine with that, I've always been.
"Fine, I'll meet you." I looked at him dead in the eyes, making this only business. I didn't want him to get any ideas.
"Fine, see you at three." I felt his eyes stare as me as I walked back inside Frosty Palace. I passed Danny trying to talk to a reluctant Sandy. I sat down at the booth where the T-Birds were at and sighed.
I looked out the window and I saw Crater Face still there, looking at me. We looked at each other for a second and then a person passed by, blocking him from my view momentarily. After the person passed, he was gone and I shivered.
"Charlie!" I heard my name be called. My head shot back to the group.
"Wha-?" I asked.
"You good?" Kenickie asked me. I looked back outside, checking to see if Crater face was still there. Thankfully, he wasn't. Just a couple of kids standing around.
"Yeah, I will be." I answered.
