FIVE | POCKET FULL OF LIGHTNING
"I am so confused..." Diego muttered as he processed what Five said. "Shocking..." Allison said with a sarcastic tone.
"Well, someone killed our mothers, so we shouldn't exist, but clearly we do exist, and that shouldn't be a problem but the universe can't handle it which is a problem,"
"Big problem," Five corrected, sipping his coffee. "Yah!" Stanley yelled, kicking his leg in the air. "Stanely!" Diego scolded, pointing his knife at him. "Now is not the time to be doing karate, okay?"
"Oh yeah? Well, Mom said I need to practice," Stanley argued. "Yeah, well she's not wrong, you're very bad," Diego agreed, filling the blade in his hands. "Well, I saved your pathetic ass," Stanley reminded Diego.
"Okay, hold on, Five so we caused a paradox, what does that mean?" Allison snapped. "It's hard to say," Five said. "It's been all theoretical until now but things have started to disappear," Five answered.
"What things?" Viktor asked, setting down the beer. "Now? Uh, lobsters," Five said. "And a shit ton of cows!" Klaus and I added. Klaus got up from the floor. "But I have a feeling, this is just the beginning," Five said.
"A feeling, aren't you retired?" Allison asked rhetorically. "I want nothing more," Five stated. "You know, you can't keep dragging us through hell because you have an itch only an apocalypse," Allison walked towards us.
"And then expect us to deal with the fallout, You're not the boss!" Allison snapped. "Hey! Leave him be," I confronted her, rubbing Five's arm. "Fine, I'm the messenger, and I am telling you something terrible is coming," Five glared at Allison.
"Then let's go attack the sparrows, get the briefcase, and go home," Allison suggested. "This is our home, Allison, accept it," Five pleaded.
We all turn our heads to see Stanley breaking something. "That's it, I'm telling your Mom," Diego scolded. "Ooh!" Stanley mocked. "Wait, where's Lila?" Five asked. "Shower, I told her she could stay with us" Stanley informed.
"Wait, when did Lila get back?" Viktor asked. "Five where you going?" Diego asked as Five grabbed his coffee cup. "Go talk to somebody who has half her head up her ass,"ย Five turned around before walking away.
"Five!" I yelled, running off to follow him. "Don't leave, Five, don't leave," Klaus begged. "No, Klaus I'm leaving," Five said dryly. "I mean, he has a pretty good track record with this stuff, I feel like we should listen to him," Viktor assured.
"Sure, quick question," Klaus pointed at them, showing them the book. "Please don't leave me here with them," I pleaded. "You think I want to but I think Klaus and Diego need someone to look after them," Five said before kissing my forehead.
"God you owe me so much more than that," I whined before walking back to the group. "Oh yeah, well this is my real mother," Klaus picked up the book from the pool table. "And she's called Rachel," Klaus pointed to the name in the journal.
"And I have her eyes, see?" Klaus said, his voice breaking at the grief news. "And this is mine," I flipped a few pages forward, rubbing Klaus' back. "What a shocker, it is Debbie," I said dryly, hiding my sadness. "Like 1963 Debbie?" Viktor asked as my eyes never left the articles plastered on the page.
"You have her nose..." Viktor smiled. "And Emily's wit," Diego added. "Come on! We need to find out who did this! This is the thing!" Klaus slammed the book onto the pool table. "This is the main thing!"
"Is that all you want?" Diego shouted. "Yeah," Klaus nodded. "Cause it's obviously Dad, all right? He knew where we were born. He hated us inย 63. Boom. Murders," Diego explained. "Five was right, someone does need to take care of you two..." I sighed, walking over to Stanley's side.
"You think Dad is capable of killing innocent people?" Klaus questioned. "Absolutely," Viktor said as Diego laughed. "Oh, it's murder city, buddy," Diego said. "Well, who isn't! Watching you two argue like children is giving me a headache!" I snapped. "Yeah, I guess so," Klaus said, lowering his voice, and pouting.
"Little late for a meeting pal," Diego said. I turned around to see Luther holding a tote bag, and a water cup in another. "Where did you go?" I asked. "I was being held captive," Luther raised his hand. "By the sparrows," Luther added. "What?" Allison asked, not believing him.
"Wait, did none of you notice?" Luther asked. "We're happy you're home, safe and sound,"ย Klaus said, tipping his beer. "Yeah, oh my god," Diego and Viktor said. "Stop lying," Allison rolled her eyes. "Not at all," I blurted out.
"Oh yeah, okay, nice," Luther shushed. "Did they hurt you?" Allison asked. "Who? The sparrows?" Luther asked. "God, no, no they're excellent hosts," Luther raved as he set down a tote bag.
"Jesus, did you get a cut of the merchandise or something," I said, looking at the full tote bag. "Really quite charming, actually," Luther said. "Oh, and you should see their gym," Luther added. "Outstanding!" Luther complimented.
I examined the water cup he was holding while Klaus was touching Luther's jacket. "I really think we got these guys all wrong," Luther commented before taking a sip.ย "Says the guy they kidnapped," Allison said, holding up the sparrows' vinyl.
Diego whistled at Luther, grabbing his attention. "What did they want?" Diego asked. "Oh, Marcus," Luther answered. "He's missing, they want him back, unharmed," Luther said. "We don't have him," Viktor said.
"Well... damn," Luther said. "I was hoping we'd solve that problem and quickly move on to problem number two," Luther said. "Disappearing people," Luther added.
We heard the sound of glass shattering, we turned to Stanley. "It was the wind," Stnaley blamed. "Who's the kid?" Luther asked.
"That's what you need to learn, whenย I was your age, I was up at dawn, all right? I was training, I was honing my skills, the biggest thing, I was becoming a real man," Diego told Stanley, holding him by the neck.
"Right, is that why you wear those tight pants?" Stanley mocked, causing me to laugh. "I think you still have a few years ahead of you until you reach that goal, Diego," I added.
"Lila?" Diego questioned as he heard the door, "Hmm?" Lila came out with a towel wrapped around her body. "You need to take this kid with you," Diego pointed at Stanley. "The hell were you two doing in there?" I asked, watching Five walk out of the bathroom with Lila, holding two briefcases.
"Bathing," Lila answered. "Together?" Diego asked. "Okay..." Five sighed at Diego's immature questioning. "Diego, we don't have time for this," Five said, walking ahead of us. "Lila and I got important shit to do," Five said.
"Wait, Wait, what's more, important than family?" Diego asked. "Hey love," Lila greeted Stanley, patting his arm before following Five. "End of the world, genius," Five said with a sarcastic tone, walking toward the elevator.
"Lila?" Diego pulled Lila away from Five. Diego started complaining about Stanley. "So, why is she naked?" I asked. "Because she was taking a bath," Five answered, his grip tightening on the two briefcases.
"And her busted lip?" I pointed to Lila's lip with dried blood. "Long story," Five sighed. "Your hair?" I questioned, brushing his hair back to its original spot. "Longer story," Five said as he stepped into the elevator.
"Wait! What am I supposed to do with him, huh? I got important shit going on too!" Diego yelled. "I doubt that," Lila scoffed. "Figure it out, Diego, be a dad," Lila said before the elevator door closed on them. "How many is "many people"?" Diego asked.
"Way more than you Papi," Stanley said, causing Diego to run after him.
"Why are we here?" I asked, watching Stanley mirror Diego crossing his arms. "What are you doing?" Diego asked. "What are you doing?" Stanley asked. "Security assessment," Diego answered. "Our enemies can attack us from anywhere," Diego added.
"That's cool," Stnaley chuckled. "No, that is not cool," I corrected. "But lucky for everyone, I'm on it," Diego said. "Who put you in charge?"ย I asked. "The trick is to be prepared," Diego said, walking onto the sidewalk.
"Now, I need you to stay away from the hotel for a few hours," Diego instructed. "It's not safe, go buy some donuts," Diego said, pulling out some cash. "I'm allergic to donuts," Stanely informed. "What do you mean, you're allergic to donuts?" Diego asked.
"You also hate fun?" Diego added. "It's the gluten, asshat," Stanley snapped. "Hey, watch your mouth," Diego warned. "Stop trying to get rid of me, everyone tries to do that," Stanley said. "Maybe try to be less annoying," Diego said, kneeling to Staley's level.
"god, you are bad at this," I chimed in. "Just go somewhere for a few hours," Diego shoved cash in Staley's hand. "It's a big city, have fun," Diego said. "Mom would never let me walk around a strange city all on my own, she doesn't trust me," Stanely said.
"Your mother isn't much better than your dad, Stan," I assured him. "that's because she's a terrible person," Diego said. "And I'm amazing," Diego pointed to himself. "Remember that," Diego added.
"It's eight dollars," Stanely counted the money. "Come on, I'll give you more money--" I offered. "That's a month's salary for a kid," Diego stopped me. "Now get out of here," Diego pushed Stanley's head before running off.
"Do you want me to go babysit him?" I asked. "Would you?" He asked with a doubtful look. "Yes..." I nodded before following Stanley.
