BACKSTORY

Her father ( a muggle named Carl ) was killed by Voldemort . Voldemort killed Carl as a punishment for Evie's mom ( a witch named Rowena after Rowena Ravenclaw ) for leaving the death eaters . Rowena had joined the death eaters in secret , assuming she'd be killed if she didn't . Eventually , she had the courage to leave , though that resulted in the killing of her husband . She still feels extremely guilty . Evie has a younger sister named Anastasia , who is deaf . When Ana went deaf , Evie put in a TON of time learning BSL ( British sign language ) , and soon became fluent . Ana and Evie are very close.
