"Hey, you know, I was just thinking about how crazy it is that Duncan can make keys." Gabe spoke as the trio of boys got out of the car. "I just figured that if anyone in your family could do it back in the day, it would be your dad."
Logan looked up at the school, not use to it seeming so creepy at night.
"Erin said that he tried, but Duncan was the only one who could do it." Tyler exhaled with a shrug as they headed toward the door.
"Well, he was named after Bob Duncan. I could make keys too if I was named after Bob Duncan." Logan said the reoccurring joke.
Tyler laughed. "Why do you keep saying that? The amount of times i've heard you say that-"
"It's true." Logan threw his hands up in defense.
Gabe, already jealous for how close Logan was with Harvests family, jumped in. "Yeah, but-but why? What makes him so special? Aside the Bob Duncan thing."
Yet, when he said it, just wasn't funny.
"Erin thought maybe it was because he was so innocent." Tyler said honestly with a minor shrug. "We don't really know."
"Evenin, fellas!" A new voice cut in.
"Logan 2.0!" Logan announced as he came across his name twin.
"OG Logan." Logan 2.0 grinned at him.
"This is your guy on the inside?" Gabe looked to Tyler in questioning.
"Yeah, you think the Lockes are the only ones with magical key?" Logan 2.0 spoke up, yanking a set from his pocket. "Behold."
"What is that?" Gabe asked with an awkward chuckle.
"Freshman year, I sweet talked Bernadette into giving me a copy of the master key so I can get around campus easily." Logan 2.0 exclaimed cocky like. He nodded to OG Logan quickly. "You can pull the PTSD card now, you know? Has its perks."
Logan exhaled as the cold wind blew smoke from his mouth. "Yeah, I could say I'm having bad flashbacks and get out of third period."
"How's that going, by the way?" Tyler asked Logan. The boy gave a small shrug. "Don't just shrug and give me that tough guy act. I know you aren't back at school yet."
"Look, it's fine." Logan waved him off, feeling embarrassed. Not because of Tyler or Logan 2.0, but because of Gabe. While Gabe didn't seem to have the toxic masculinity act and would tease him for it, he still had Harvest, and that was more then Logan did. Somehow, Logan felt like if he seemed weaker infront of Gabe, it would just be more of a reason for Gabe to think he was better then him.
And even if Logan didn't want to admit it out loud, if Gabe had Harvest, he was better then him.
"If it's fine why haven't you came back to school?" Tyler pried, because he had no clue. It was impossible to even know if Logan liked Harvest, he'd always just seen him and Kinsey dating. Then again, Tyler Locke was oblivious.
"I'm okay, most of the time." Logan explained as Logan 2.0 unlocked the doors. "But sometimes I just have these memories and it feels like i'm there. Then I freak out and it's like I can't breath all over again. So, having that happen in school would be absolutely terrible."
"Talking to a therapist, man?" Logan 2.0 looked over his shoulder in questioning.
"Yeah, but it doesn't really help when I can't be completely honest about everything. Now, the only thing that helps is-" Logan stoped himself as they walked in, pausing to catch himself. "My friends, I guess. Since, they know."
"Well, we're always here for you." Gabes voice irked Logan so bad. Even though this specific sentence wasn't a jab or even remotely annoying, it just still rubbed him the completely wrong way. "So, where do we start?"
"In the memory, I saw the trophy case." Tyler sighed as they all held their flashlights in hand.
"The sports one?" Logan asked, getting a nod. "Come on, it's this way."
"I didn't know you play any sports." Gabe spoke, it was clear he's been trying to get on his good side again.
Logan shrugged. "I swim."
As they reached the case, Tyler stared at the small lock. Logan 2.0 spoke up. "Well, shit, I don't have a key for that."
"Hang on, let's all back up." OG Logan announced as Gabe and Tyler backed away from the glass. "Just stay still."
"What are-" Tyler began before Logan let out a battle cry, running forward and throwing the entire right half of his body into the case.
The poor boy fell backwards and hit the ground.
"Not glass." Logan 2.0 spoke.
"With a dislocated shoulder, you do that." Tyler looked down as him in disbelief. "I should be shocked but i'm not."
As he pulled the Lancaster-Havenford boy to his feet, Gabe spoke. "Oh, it's broken."
Looking over, they stared at the lock. Logan rolled his eyes. "That was me. My strength."
"Guess security is pretty lax around here." Gabe laughed slightly. Tyler reached around, slide the door open as they stared at the trophies.
"1st place at the State-Championship?" Gabe looked at the trophy with Logan's name on it. "How did I never know this?"
Logan, despite not being the brightest of the bunch, knew that whatever Gabe was up to had nothing to with him wanted a friendship with the boy his girlfriend kissed last year. "Don't know. Figured you would."
"Why's that?" Gabe asked with an odd look.
Logan met his eye for the first time that night. "Because Harvey comes to all my meets."
It was a cruel and immature jab at Gabe, but it felt fucking good to say it.
"Woah, you're dad was quite the athlete." Logan 2.0 said as he looked at all the Rendall Locke trophies inside the case. "Did he run in college too?"
Tyler shook his head. "Not after what happened with his friends."
"Man, that shits tragic." he said as Tyler grabbed one of the trophies and looked under them.
"Hearing any whispering?" Gabe asked the only Locke in the room.
Tyler shook his head slowly. "No, I don't think it's in here."
Logan 2.0 exhaled. "Okay, where to next?"
Tyler looked lost.
"Maybe we need to recharge in the cafeteria." Logan spoke up as he rubbed his stomach, feeling his own abs through his shirt and had the terrible urge to accidentally raise his arms and show them off. "I'm hungry. Tyler's probably hungry."
"Your dad did theatre, right?" Gabe asked with a small nod.
"Let's check it out." Logan 2.0 spoke as they headed off.
Logan sighed as he sat still. "So, no to the cafeteria?"
The trio of boys just kept walking, making the blonde boy sigh before heading after them. A sharp pain went through his shoulder, adjusting the stupid sling as he reached into his pocket, popping one of his pills into his mouth.
"Find something?" Tyler asked Gabe as they looked through the theater room.
"Uh, yeah, check this out." Gabe hesitated but took the photo off the wall and turned it to them.
"Who's that?" Logan 2.0 asked as they all looked down at it.
"It's my dad and all his friends." Tyler grinned slightly down at the photo.
"Oh, and Mr Righeway! Gotta say, he was kind of a stud." Logan 2.0 said honestly as they looked at the younger version of their theater teacher.
"With a hell of a nice tie." Logan added as he checked out the younger teacher.
"They look so normal, happy." Tyler listed on.
"Yeah, they were." Gabe spoke honest with a sigh. "They- yeah, they look like they were."
"We are such stuff as dreams are made on." Tyler read from the bottom of the photo.
A moment fell began Logan 2.0 spoke up. "Yo, I know that quote."
He laughed as he headed off. "I know where that quote is."
"I feel like we shouldn't be following him." Logan exhaled, following the boy with the same name as him anyways. "Yet, here we go."
As they made their way outside, the boy lead them to a bench. Just as he said, the same quote was engraved in it. Gabe gave a small laugh. "I've never noticed that before."
"That's why i'm the guy on the inside." Logan 2.0 grinned slightly.
"Donated by the Locke family." Logan read as he squinted slightly. "In loving memory of Kim Toffer, Jeff Ellis, and Lucas Caravaggia."
"Caravaggia." Logan repeated the last name. "Wait, that was his last name?"
Tyler looked over with an odd look. "Yeah, why do you sound so surprised?"
"My aunt, she married a man with that last name." the boy spoke. Gabe gave an alarming look. "It's not necessarily common."
"Maybe they're related." Tyler went on with a nod of his head.
"Or maybe not." Gabe spoke up, getting questionable faces. "That last name is actually the fifth most common in Massachusetts."
"Seriously?" Logan asked with an odd look. "I've never heard that aside from my aunt and uncle."
"Yeah, i've met four people with that last name already." Gabe lied with a nod of his head.
"Wait." Tyler's eyes widened. "I hear it."
The Locke boy crawled down slightly. "It's coming from under the bench!"
"You've never heard it before when you walked by?" Gabe frowned his eyebrows his way.
"I think the keys only whisper when we need them the most." Tyler grinned, standing up from the snow.
"How are we gonna get underneath? It's solid cement." Logan 2.0 looked over oddly.
"Should have taken the pick up." Logan spoke of his truck, despite it still being the shop trying to get fixed from the wreck. "Have an entire thing of tools in the back."
"What do you need tools for?" Gabe looked at him oddly.
"He fixes stuff around the house for us." Tyler spoke for him with a nod of his head. "Harvest completely destroyed the faucet by yanking on it so hard. Logan fixed it for us so we've just been asking him."
Gabe spoke up. "Oh, so are you gonna fix the pipes?"
"The pipes?" Logan asked oddly.
Gabe nodded. "Yeah, the pipes that got damaged from the cold. The ones making the loud noise in the house."
Logan's eyes went wide in realization. "Right! Yeah! Probably so, after the party and all that."
"This ought to do the trick." Tyler spoke up as he pulled the strong key and it's harness out. The trio stared as Tyler lifted it with ease, completely pulling the cement of the bench up.
"Shit, man! That works." Logan 2.0 laughed. Tyler punched the bottom of the cement harshly. The clinking sound of the key made them stop.
"Oh, there it is." Logan 2.0 said.
"Yeah, i'll get it." Gabe spoke quickly as he walked forward.
"It's okay. I got it." Tyler reassured him as he reached downwards and took it from the dirt.
"She's a beauty." Logan said as he looked at the dirty key.
"The Memory Key." Tyler gapped at the key in his palm.
Tyler placed the bench back down before Gabe spoke up. "Yeah, that's amazing. We should go back to Keyhouse and try it out."
"We should probably do this on our own. Duncan's kind of in a fragile place." Tyler nodded his head honestly before looking at his watch. "But I should see all three of you in two hours for the party."
"Uh, yeah, I mean-" Gabe began.
"Hey, you do what's best for your family." Logan cut him off with a nod. "Just be safe with it."
"Good luck." Logan 2.0 grinned.
"Thank you, guys, all three of you." Tyler smiled at each of them as he pulled his backpack back as he nodded at Logan. "I'll give you a ride home."
"Hey, you know, I was just thinking it might be good to have somebody else there." Gabe followed after the pair quickly. "I mean, you don't know what's gonna happen."
"Kinsey'll be there. Harvey too. She'll text, let you know how it goes." Tyler spoke for his sister as the trio went through the snow.
"Are you-" Gabe began in defeat.
"Thanks again!" Tyler called over his shoulder. Logan spun around and gave a wave of his fingers to Gabe, haunting like.
