Chapter Twelve
"Hey guys look, Harvey and I found the match key whispering to us outside. Sam must have dropped it." Bode explained as he dragged his older sister into Kinsey's room.
"What's that?" Harvest asked with frowned eyebrows, seeing as Tyler hid something behind his back the second the two walk in.
"Nothing." Tyler said to them quickly as Harvest raised one of her eyebrows at him.
"What's nothing behind your back?" Bode questioned, not believing it was nothing either.
"Come on we should all get ready for school." Kinsey said as she grabbed Bode as Tyler threw Harvest over his shoulder.
"Hey, I wanna see it." Bode complained as he got out of Kinsey's grip, also being picked up by Tyler a few seconds later.
"Both of you, out of here." Tyler said while pushing them out of the room.
"Kinsey is only eleven months older then I am, stop treating me like i'm another Bode." Harvest said with a glare, clearly annoyed with all of it.
"The only reason you know about the keys is because of me! Because I shared them with you, so stop shutting me out." Bode added in from the doorway, just as angry as his older sister.
"We're not shutting you out we're-" Kinsey began but was cut off.
"You're protecting me, yeah I know. But you can stop, i've gone through everything you have and so has Harvey! I'm not a stupid little kid anymore, Dad said I was very discerning for my age." Bode pointed out as his three older siblings gave a look of shock his way at the outburst.
"He did, huh?" Tyler asked with a eyebrow raise.
"Please, let us help." Bode begged softly while taking his sisters hand.
"How does this even make sense?" Harvest spoke minutes later after Tyler and Kinsey showed the two what they were hiding. It was a memory trapped inside what seemed to be a mason jar, a memory of their father hitting one of his close friends over the head multiple times with a bottle.
"It's okay to be upset."
"Memories aren't always accurate, they can be distorted."
"That's the guy that's staying at Elles house." Bode suddenly said as he got a closer look at the guy Randle was hitting.
"What? At Elles house?" Harvest asked in shock as she turned to Bode even more.
"You're saying you've seen Lucas?" Tyler asked as he kneeled down next to Bode now.
"Rufus said he was his cousin, there's something weird about him. I think Rufus is scared of him." Bode added as Kinsey and Harvest shared a wide eyed look.
"That's because he's Dodge." Kinsey said as Harvests eyes widened.
"Dodge can become more than one person? She can shape shift?" Harvest asked with wide eyes toward her older sister.
"There the same person, or demon. In Duncan's memory he used a key that could change what he looked like." Kinsey informed her quickly as things began to slowly fall into place.
"So if Dodge has that key why would she use it to make herself like our Dads seventeen year old dead best friend?" Tyler spoke as Harvest tapped her fingers on her knee.
"More importantly is Lucas the only one she's making herself look like." Harvest added in, her mind at full speed.
"Hey there." Gabe greeted as he kissed Harvest's cheek when they met infront of the school.
"Hey back." she greeted while taking his hand as they walked down the hallway.
"Listen, I know i've been kinda absent in your life lately and I wanna make it up to you." Gabe spoke as Harvest gave him a eyebrow raise.
"Go on." she spoke, wanting to see what he had in mind.
"I know a place you may or may not like, it's small and quiet. Extremely private and basically has our names written all over it. Wanna skip last period?" he asked with a grin as Harvest pretended to think.
"Skip Physics to hang out with my extremely cheesy boyfriend who had a secret place to take me, how could I ever?" Harvest asked sarcastically as Gabe laughed and gave her a spin once the bell rung.
"I'll meet you out front, don't be late." he smiled while going down the hallway again leaving Harvest with a smile, it soon fell when she saw Logan walking toward her.
"Hey, what's up with the odd look?" Harvest asked as he stopped infront of her with a different look.
"Is everything okay?" Harvest asked when he didn't say anything.
"I mean aside from the fact that your sister just asked to date Scot and I at once, i'm good." Logan explained as Harvest opened her mouth to say something, shutting it in shock once again.
"Well that's... interesting? What are you gonna say?" Harvest asked, watching as the light from the window shined through and hit his bright blue eyes perfectly.
"No clue, let's go to class." Logan explained, linking their arms and heading to English.
"Can't believe i'm gonna fail my test for you." Harvest explained as she got into Gabes car as he laughed and started the engine.
"Totally worth it, just trust me." he explained when taking off down the road. Harvest looked out the window the majority of the time, looking at the trees and the oceans views that passed them. They were driving for what seemed like hours but in reality it was only fifteen minutes until they stopped in the middle of no where.
"Gabe, are you a axe murderer?" Harvest asked with a eyebrow raise, Gabe laughed at her again.
"Definitely." he joked while the two got out of the car, holding out his hand Harvest took it.
"It's just over here." he informed her while leading her toward a small cave, stopping at the entrance.
"You do realize last time we went into a cave together was almost drowned, right?" Harvest asked as her eyebrows shot up.
"I do. No water this time, I remembered." Gabe said while leading them through the darkness, slowly getting down a latter with the help of a phone flashlight.
"Woah." Harvest said when they came to their destination, a tiny area that was lit up with glow in the dark rocks. It looked like something in a dream, completely breathtakingly beautiful.
"How'd you find this place?" Harvest asked in shock as she looked around.
"You know, just did a lot of exploring when I first moved here. It's a secret though, can't tell anyone." Gabe said as he wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder.
As the rest of the day went on Harvest and Gabe found themselves laying on the ground of the glow cave. Their faces and eyes glowed of every color from the rocks, laughing as they watched the smoke from Harvest's cigarette radiate a bright pink color.
"What's you deal anyway, chain smoker? You know those are gonna mess your lungs up." Gabe said as he turned his head to look at her. Harvest sighed as she turned to look at him as well.
"I'd rather numb my feelings then worry about my lungs." Harvest said honestly, not having a reason and didn't even want to lie to Gabe anymore.
"When you say feelings... do you mean feelings like love too?" he asked as Harvest blinked rapidly. Gabe just implied that he loved her and she couldn't even say it back because someone else came to mind when he said the word. Laughing slightly she gave him a bright smile.
"You're the most clique person I know." she laughed while hitting his leg with her own. It wasn't that Harvest didn't love Gabe, she really did. But she thought of someone else more then she should, she loved someone else the same or possibly more.
"I know." he said with a joking laugh as she grinned and looked back up at the ceiling, holding his hand as they talked about the many colors.
