Chapter Three
Harvest gasped as she walked down the stairs with Tyler the next morning. She could see what seemed to be a evil looking Kinsey in the mirror, something they described that happened the night before.
"What the hell are you doing?" Tyler asked as he rushed to yank the key out of the mirror and push Kinsey aside.
"I'm glad I wasn't hear for that, talk about nightmares for weeks." Harvest commented as she rubbed the sides of her arms, knowing she already had terrible nightmares as it was.
"Bode, is this the only key you found?" Tyler asked as he kneeled down to look at his younger brother with a knowing look and holding the key in his hand.
"Yes." the smallest blonde nodded as Kinsey frowned her eyebrows.
"Wait what about the one you took out of my bracelet? The one you said could take you anywhere in the world." Kinsey said as Harvest looked to him with a crazy look and adjusted the backpack on her shoulders.
"I lost it." Bode mumbled as he looked away.
"You just lost a key that could take you anywhere? You were so excited about it, I don't get how you could have just lost it." Kinsey said as a car horn was heard outside.
"More reason why we can't trust him with this one. That Javi, if you wanna ride we gotta go." Tyler said as he opened the door and walked out.
"See you when I get home little dude." Harvest said with a rub to Bodes head and left the house.
"You coming with?" Tyler asked as Harvest shook her head.
"Getting a ride with Logan, see you after school." she waved while jumping into the beat down pick up truck parked.
"Wow, it's cold in here." Harvest commented as she pulled herself into the truck and buckled her seat belt.
"Yeah the heaters broken, if you put your hands infront of the radio it may produce some heat." he laughed making her laugh and put her bag on the floor.
"You look tired, any sleep?" he asked as she sigh and shook her head.
"AC was out, rough night." she lied through her teeth with a winning smile as they drove off to school.
"Hey! Hey so tonight my friends and I are having this like nerd get together, Scot invited your sister if you wanna tag along." Logan said as he ran to catch up with Harvest as she got out of the car in the school parking lot.
"What a nerd get together consist of?" she asked as Logan hummed with a dramatic look.
"Smoothies and filming shitty shows that might actually have a chance though." Logan said as he held the door open for her, walking in not to far after.
"Add potato chips to your list and I may consider." she teased while sending him one last wave and disappearing into class.
"Hey! Kens!" Harvest shouted as she jogged down the hallway to meet up with her sister.
"Hey." Kinsey said back with little emotion, Harvest was use to that though.
"Are you going to that thing at Scots later? Logan invited me but I really don't wanna go alone so..." Harvest trailed off as Kinsey sighed.
"I don't know, maybe. It just feels like there's so much more important stuff going on right now." Kinsey explained as Harvest nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, I second that. But it'll all still be there tomorrow, this may not be. And if we're stuck in this town we might as well make the best of it." Harvest said as Kinsey sighed with a nod before giving her sister a slightly worried look.
"Hey I um, I heard you last night. Are your nightmares getting bad again?" Kinsey asked making Harvest's face fall, the bell ringing just after her sisters words.
"Think about what I said, see you later." the girl said with a awkward wave, pushing her long red hair behind her back and heading off to her last class.
"So what did you guys make the blood from? Ketchup? Red hair dye? Because if so that's slightly offensive." Harvest asked that night as her and Kinsey stood around watching as Scot and Logan's group of friends all set up the scene.
"Cornstarch actually, could never disrespect redheads." Scot joked as he looked up at her. Harvest could see Kinsey jump slightly in the corner of her eye as someone in a monster suit walked out, taking no mind to it she continued to gush over the props.
"What's up? I'm Gabe." she heard a familiar voice as she spun around quickly, watching as he pulled the head of the suit off and revealing his face once again. Harvest still though he was beautiful, even through the slight flush to his cheeks from the mask.
"Oh yeah sorry, Gabe is new to Mathison too. We run a tight strict for our monster so we offered him exchange for french to let him wear a suit that doesn't let him breath." Scot spoke up as Kinsey laughed slightly while Gabe offered her one more grin before his eyes fell to Harvest a few feet away.
"And I was told a certain red head would be wanting potato chips." he commented while walking over to her with the large bag.
"Must have me confused for someone else." she shrugged her shoulders and popped the bag open making Gabe laugh, showing off his pearly whites.
"It's good to see you again." she said, her voice quiet to avoid any further questioning from the group around her.
"You too, and looks like you were right about what you said. We are actually in the middle of a horror story now, aren't we?" he teased while sending her one last grin before heading off to get into places.
"Tell me something, what can I say to make your sister fall hopelessly in love with me?" Logan asked as he stood next to his friend who pretended to think.
"Well for starts you could bond with her over sadness and glumness." Harvest suggest with a shrug as Logan gave her a look making her sigh and set her chips down.
"Just talk to her, don't make her seem like Randle Locke daughter who now lives the in infamous key house. It'll go a long way, I promise." Harvest said to him with a slap to his back before pushing a few more chips into her mouth.
"So what even are you?" Kinsey's voice caught their attention as she looked to Gabe with a confused look.
"Wait you've never heard of this? It's a local legend." the only other girl i'm the room said to her, only getting another confused look from Kinsey.
"Half man, half lobster, fully ticked off about how we persecuted his breathrine in the deep." Scot spoke with a laugh making Harvest hum.
"Woah, how fitting." Harvest commented sending Gabe a sarcastic smile as he returned it just as bad as she did.
"Every now and then he'll snatch up a fisherman of a whaler."
"Or a couple of teenagers dry humping on the beach."
"He's probably tore open one of your ancestors with a snap of the claw. Practical effects are going to be mental, Zadie's been working this application for weeks." Scot spoke as he started to mess with his camera a few feet away, Harvest watching his every move as she became more and more fascinated in film.
"As soon as Gabe attacks, i'm gonna make the head pop off into the air and the bloods gonna splutter up through this tube all over Eden." The girl spoke as she motioned around making Harvest grin.
"Woah." she commented, impressed.
"Wait i'm sorry I didn't think I was gonna get blood all over me." Eden said as she was touching up her makeup in the mirror making everyone look back at her annoyed.
"It's in the script." the crew said to her her with confused faces.
"Okay but I didn't think you were gonna actually drawn me in blood." Eden said with a eye roll making Harvest give her a nasty glare.
"Who said anything about drowning?" she asked her with wider eyes, waiting for a answer.
"It's corn syrup and food coloring, it's fully edible and washable." Zadie said to her as she put a hand on her hip.
"But I don't understand why we can't just do it without the blood." Eden suggested causing the group to scoff.
"Because we got the couch from goodwill and your aware Eden that the title of the movie is 'The Splattering' " Scot said to her as annoyance and sarcasm dripping from his tongue.
"Well it's either me or the blood." Eden said as she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Blood, I vote blood" Dough said as he raised his hand in the air, Harvest holding her hand out for a high five he returned nearly immediately.
"I mean obviously" Zadie added in, joined the other out reached hand for the high five.
"Clearly." Logan nodded along. Everyone then turned to Gabe who was messing with his costume before realizing everyone was looking at him.
"Oh, I get a vote? Ugh yeah i'll say blood too." he nodded along as Kinsey looked back at Harvest who laughed and shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm outta here." Eden said as she grabbed her things and turned around to look at them again, expecting someone to ask her to stay.
"Bye. Love you." Dough said with a flip of his finger making her scoff and walk out the door.
"So what now?" Dough asked as Scot sighed in stress.
"I don't know, Dough. Pitch me a fix" Scot explained while looking back at everyone with a distressed look on his face. Harvest held out her bag of chips as he sighed and gave her a small smile while taking a hand full.
"Well, maybe Kinsey could do it. They both are blonde, no offense Harvest." Zadie said as she looked at the two Locke girls.
"Non taken." Harvest said back as she put her hands up in surrender.
"Oh no no no, I don't think that a good idea. I don't think Kinsey's brand of will house is in line with this particular brand of cinematic mythology." Scot spoke as everyone turned to Kinsey who seemed nervous.
"No I- I can do it." Kinsey nodded, getting a shocked look from her sister.
"Really?" Scot and Harvest asked at the same time.
"Yeah, sure. But I was told there would be smoothies." Kinsey said in awkwardness making Harvest grin, proud of her sister.
"Look as you, all pretty and not so shy. Good look for you." Harvest said a few minutes later as she brushed through Kinsey's hair as she sat on the couch next to the dummy that looked like Scot.
"So you are Amanda, and just started in the early stages of a new relationship with Nathaniel. Who in the other scenes will be played by yours truly." Scot said as Harvest laughed and realized Gabe was having trouble with keeping the head of his costume on to long.
"Having trouble?" she asked while approaching making him chuckle and nod.
"Not easy to breath in that thing." he said making her nod, eyes focusing on the eyelash on his face.
"You've got a eyelash." she said as he quickly tried to get it off, failing completely.
"You totally missed it stupid ass, here let me." she said while reaching over and using her thumb to whip it off quickly, feeling the warmth of his skin under hers.
"Thanks." he said with a small smile, never once breaking eye contact.
"Okay let's go, places people." Scot called out as Gabe gave Harvest one last smile before heading off to his spot near the back.
"Come over here." Logan said as he drug Harvest back to the space behind the scene and placed a set of headphone on her head while he held a mic into the air.
"Roll sound, Dough."
"Sound is sounding."
"Mic cheek, Logan."
"Mic cheek is on."
"Zadie, slate."
"The splattering scene twenty three, take one."
"It's go time, action!"
Kinsey slowly walked into the room with a bowl of popcorn in her hands, "Nathanial, I can't believe you started the movie without me."
"I hope I didn't put to much butter on the popcorn."
"No such thing."
"And Gabe." Scot called as as Gabe walked into the room with his monster uniform and tore the dummy's head off, making Zadie que the blood.
"Okay now Kinsey scream." Scot said as Kinsey was more focused on the wrap on the ground to keep the mess from staining the carpet.
"What's going on?" Logan whispered back to Harvest as she quickly took a few steps forward.
"Kinsey, hey. Just look at me, it's okay." Harvest whispered to her sister, knowing we're this was going.
"Cut.Cut." Scot called out as the scene stopped quickly.
"I'm sorry." Kinsey said quickly with a broken voice making Harvest walk over and hug her, Kinsey resting her head on her stomach.
"Hey, no, no, it's alright, it's okay. Don't worry about it, this blood is to red we're gonna have to reshoot it anyway." Scot tried to reassure her while whipping the blood of her arms.
"Maybe we can fix it in post." Dough said as Zadie looked up at him.
"Dough Prazila, you did not just say you to me!" Zadie explained, clearly worked up and annoyed by this.
"Thanks Logan." Harvest said as she waved, watching as he drove Kinsey home. Harvest sighed as she leaned against the house wall, watching the street lights flicker slightly. Out of habit she pulled the lighter and cigarette out of her back pocket, lighting if quickly and bringing it to her mouth.
"Hey chain smoker! wanna save your lungs a little?" Gabes voice called out jokingly as he excited the house and saw her.
"Hey dickhead! Wanna save your breath a little?" she asked him as he laugh and approached her quickly, changed into his regular clothes again.
"How's Zadie, still upset?" Harvest asked as Gabe sucked in a breath.
"That would be an understatement." Gabe said as he rested on the wall next to her, Harvest frowned but she understood.
"Want one?" she offered him the pack as he shook his head.
"I'm okay, cmon. l'll give you a ride home." he said while putting a arm around her to lead her back to his car.
"Thanks again, i'm really sorry about the whole Kinsey thing. She didn't mean to." Harvest said as they arrived at her house a few minutes later.
"Hey, it's not a problem." he smiled, showing off his nearly perfect teeth before his eyebrows frowned while looking and her.
"What happened there?" he asked while looking at the scar on her collar bones, Harvest slapped his hand away the second he got close. He gave her a look, making her feel bad almost instantly.
"I'm sorry, it's just sensitive." she quickly nodded as he nodded quickly.
"It's fine, I shouldn't have done that." he shook his head quickly, taking the blame.
"See you tomorrow?" she asked as he nodded with a smile, watching as she shut the door and hurried inside.
