Chapter Eleven
Logan had stayed the night at the Lockes house. Sleeping on a pallet on Harvest floor right now to her bedside, waiting until she fell asleep until he did himself. Kinsey took jealousy to it, not understanding how after she kissed him after the caves he had barely glanced in her direction when Harvest was around.
"You're still here?" Harvest asked with a gasp as she rolled over the next morning, seeing Logan reading a book in the corner of her room.
"You're quite the writer, is it a family thing?" he asked while flipping through the book she'd been writing about the keys.
"No, it's not." she said with a eyebrow raise as he sighed and gave it back to her.
"What are you planning on doing with that?" Logan asked as he sat down infront of her, watching as she flattered out her messy curls to look a little less insane.
"Nothing, I just need something to remind me in twenty years that this all happened." she said as he frowned his eyebrows.
"My Mom couldn't remember last time she witnessed the keys magic, I don't wanna end up like that and bring my kids here one day and put them through all of this." she said as he nodded his head, clearing his throat.
"Kids? You want kids?" he asked her, not expecting her to mention it.
"Why do you say it like that?" she asked him with a laugh as he sent her one back.
"Just didn't expect the Harvest Locke to be a big enough softy for kiddos, you always seemed like a lone wolf." he said as Harvest hummed with a grin, knowing he was right.
"You're partly right, just one kid I mean. Probably out in a big city, writing books and articles. Pretty unrealistic dream but worth a shot." Harvest said way with a shrug, her face flushing slightly from embarrassment.
"Unrealistic? Maybe, but for you? No way." Logan explained as Harvest smiled, the two staring at each other for a moment under a knock was heard and the door crept open.
"Gabe." Harvest smiled as she saw the familiar face look in with soft eyes and a bag.
"Hey you guys." Gabe greeted in a whispered voice, Logan stood up as Gabe walked in.
"I should ugh, go see Kinsey. I'll cheek on you before I leave." Logan said as Harvest nodded and watched him leave with a small sigh, focusing on Gabe as he walked over with a grin.
"I brought you Phil's, Ice cream, and a pack of cigarettes. Don't worry, they aren't the cheap ones." Gabe said with a smile as he handed her the bag.
"You're amazing, thank you." Harvest smiled while setting it to the side as he scooted closer to her.
"How are you holding up?" he asked as Harvest pushed some of the red locks out of her face with a shrug.
"Honestly? I have no clue. I should be fine but i'm really not." Harvest explained as she rubbed her dry face from the lack of daily moisturizer.
"Hey, that's okay. You don't have to be fine, what happened last night would shake anyone up. Do you wanna talk about it?" Gabe asked as he hurried to grab her hands, Harvest gasped as he did so and yanked them away.
"Woah, what's wrong?" he asked worried as she relaxed.
"Sorry, your hands are so cold." she said while grabbing his again, finding it odd that his body was colder then normal.
"Probably from holding the ice cream, is there something else on your mind? You seem really, not fully there." Gabe said while meeting her eye as Harvrst hesitated before shaking her head.
"I didn't really sleep last night, i'm sorry." she said while looking down embarrassed.
"It's okay, I just worry." he said before his eyes fell to the messy pallet on the floor.
"Did ugh, someone stay in here?" he asked as Harvest followed his gaze.
"Oh yeah, Logan crashed for the night here. His Dads were okay with it I think, I don't really know honestly." Harvest said as she waved it off, ignoring the small mood change he had but got rid of it moments later.
"The others wanted to be here for you guys, their just scared I think. I mean what happened to your family, it's kinda crazy. When I heard they guy came back... what did he want? Was he after revenge?" Gabe asked as Harvest looked up at him with a dumbfounded look.
"What does my family have that no one else does?" Harvest asked, expecting him to catch on.
"Really tall windows that make it insanely hard for me to sneak into... when I wanna see you." Gabe said as Harvest laughed slightly. (did y'all catch that?)
"No." Harvest said while hitting his arm with a laugh.
"Oh you mean like magical keys?" he asked teasingly as she nodded her head.
"How did he- I thought hardly anyone knew about those?" Gabe asked as Harvest sighed with a nod.
"A long story, another time." Harvest said as he nodded and scooted closer to her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
"No rush." Gabe spoke to her softly, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head.
Later on that night after everyone left Harvest heard a loud crash from downstairs. Running down quickly she saw Tyler and Kinsey standing infront of her Mom, her Dads ashes all over the place infront of her.
"Mom?" Harvest asked worried as Tyler snapped his head up quickly.
"It's fine Harvey, go back upstairs." he said to her, not wanting the redhead to be involved in this.
"But-" she began, being cut off quickly.
"Go back up stairs!" Tyler demanded, his voice was firm and angry as Harvest turned on her heels and ran up stairs. Slamming her door shut loudly a few of the things on the wall fell off, Harvest fell face down into her pillow as she let out a scream before rolling over and looking up at the blank ceiling. Small clicks were heard as she looked over, knocking at her window. Logan stood on the balcony with a huge box in his arms, clearly after climbing from the tree.
"Logan? What are you doing out there?" Harvest asked while swinging the door open and pulling him inside.
"I was gonna go through the front door but seems like there was some trouble in paradise." he said as they sat on her bed with a huff.
"Something like that, is everything okay?" Harvest asked as he nodded.
"Yeah, yeah I just left some of my stuff here and wanted to bring you this." he said while motioning to the big box.
"This is for me?" she asked with a raise of her eyebrows.
"Open it." he grinned as she laughed and began pulling it apart, grinning down as she pulled the large hunk of meddle out of the box.
A Typewriter.
"This must have cost so much, I shouldn't take it." she shook her head as he rolled his eyes jokingly.
"Please just take it, it wasn't anything. It was my great grandmas, she was a big writer. Couldn't stop thinking about how you'd bring it more justice then it just sitting in my garage collecting dust." Logan smiled as Harvest gave a soft look, running a finger over the vintage designs.
"I love it, thank you." Harvest grinned as she hugged him quickly, Logan hugged her back almost instantly. When the two pulled back their faces were oddly close, eyes locked instantly.
Before either of them realized what they were doing they crashed their lips together almost instantly. The tension from the moment they met not so high anymore as Harvest gripped the sides of his face as their lips moved together perfectly.
And then reality set it. She thought about Gabe finally, she thought about her sister too. Pulling away quickly they both had swollen lips and embarrassed faces.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" Harvest began to stumble over her words.
"No, no it's my fault. Just a um-" he trailed off, not knowing the right words to say.
"A in the moment type of thing." Harvest said as Logan gave a akward laugh.
"Yeah, yeah Kinsey and I- and you and Gabe... it didn't happen. Just a moment thing." he said with yet another forced laugh, standing up quickly.
"I'll call you later?" Harvest asked while running her hands on her pants.
"I'll answer, probably." he said quickly, giving her finger guns before climbing into the tree again.
"My god, what just happened?" Harvest asked herself as she fell back onto her bed and slapped herself in the head.
