" Are we sure that they're dead, I have to ask at least one more time? " Rick asked as he, Avery, Duane and Morgan stepped outside.

" They're dead " Morgan confirmed " That's why, it's got to be the head ".

A walker that was sitting against a fence sat up and began to limp towards them and Rick quickly used the bad in his hand to smash the walkers head in and he fell to the clutching his stomach.

" Are you alright? " Avery asked as she placed a hand on his shoulder reassuringly.

" I need a moment " Rick panted before he got up and walked inside the house as Avery, Morgan and Duane followed, Rick discarded the helmet on his head and through it on the floor " they're alive my wife and son, at least they were, when they left ".

" How could you know? By the look of this place—" Morgan questioned as they followed him into the dining room.

" I found empty drawers in the bed room, they packed some clothes—not a lot, but enough to travel " Rick replied.

" You know, anyone could've broken in here and stole them clothes, right? " Morgan reasoned.

" You see the framed photos on the walls? Neither do I? Some random thief take those too, you think? " Rick gestured around him before opening a cupboard Behind him " Our photo albums, family pictures—all gone "

" Photo albums " Morgan laughed as he sat down " My wife—same thing, there I am packing survival gear, she's grabbing photo alb......".

" They're in Atlanta, I bet " Duane spoke up.

" That's right " Morgan sighed.

" Why there? "

" Refugee Center, huge one they said before the broadcast stopped.....military protection, food, shelter, they told people to go there, said it'd be safest " Morgan replied.

" Plus they got that disease place " Duane added.

" The Centre for Disease Control " Avery said.

" Said they were working out, how to solve this thing " Morgan added.

Rick nodded before walking into the kitchen and opened the cupboard and grabbed a set of keys.

Rick, Avery, Morgan and Duane walked into the Sheriff station and walked into the showers and Rick walked over to a stable and turned on the water.

" Gas lines have been down for maybe a month now " Morgan said.

" Station's got it's own propane system " Rick replied and paced his hand under the running water " pilot's still on ".

Duane and Avery looked at each other with wide smiles.

When the boys had finished showering, Avery got in and sighed in relief, when she felt the hot water on her back getting rid of all the dirt and grim. 

" Fuck, thank god for Ranger Rick " Avery sighed.

After they all finished showering, they walked into armoury and Rick opened the gate and they all walked in.

" A lot of it's gone missing " Rick commented as he grabbed a rifle off of the wall.

" Daddy, can I learn to shoot? I'm old enough " Duane asked.

" Hell yes, you're gonna learn......but we've got to do it carefully, teach you to respect the weapon " Morgan replied.

" That's right, it's not a toy...you pull the trigger, you have to mean it, always remember that Duane " Rick added.

" Yes Sir " Duane nodded.

" Here load up " Morgan said to Duane handing him a duffle bag, Duane walked to the other side of the cage as Avery grabbed one of the rifles and looked through the scope.

" Here you take that one....nothing fancy, the scopes accurate " Rick said to Avery before asking the blonde " You know how to shot? ". 

" Yep, my grandpa taught me before he passed away " Avery replied as she smiled at the man.

" Conserve your ammo......it goes faster than you think, especially at target practice " Rick said as they walked out of the station using the back entrance.

" Duane, take this one to the car " Morgan said to Duane, who nodded and did as he was told.

" Are you sure you won't come along? " Rick asked Morgan.

" A few more days, by then Duane will know how to shoot and I won't be so rusty " Morgan replied.

Rick opened the car door and grabbed a walkie from the car and gave it to Morgan " You've got one battery, I'll turn my on a few minutes every day at dawn, you get up there that's, how you find me "

" You think ahead " Morgan said.

" Can't afford not to........not anymore " Rick replied.

" Listen, one thing—they may not seem like much, one at a time but in a group, all riled up and hungry....man, you watch your ass " Morgan warned.

" You too " Rick replied as Duane walked up to them.

" What about you? " Morgan asked Avery.

" I'm gonna go with Ranger Rick...." Avery replied.

" You don't have to do that " Rick reassured the girl.

" Well, who else is going to make sure you don't die before you find your wife and son " Avery replied with a smile and Rick smiled back at the girl.

" You take care of yourselves " Morgan said to them.

" You too and Duane make sure you look after your dad " Avery smiled at the boy.

" I will, Avery " Duane smiled before hugging her waist as the girl hugged him back, before pulling away.

Morgan smiled and goes to walk away but his smile dropped, Which caused Avery and Rick too turn where he was looking and saw a walker wearing the same uniform as Rcik, approaching the fence.

" Leon Basset? I didn't think much of him, careless and dumb but—I can't leave him like this " Rick said as Morgan pulled Duane to him.

" You know they'll hear the shot " Morgan replied.

" Let's not be here, when they show up " Rick said as he pulled out his gun.

" Let's go son, come on " Morgan said as Duane followed him after waving goodbye to the blonde.

Rick walked up to the fence and pointed the gun at the walkers head and shot him as Morgan and Duane left, Rick looked at the walker before walking over to Avery and placed a hand on her back and led her to the car as they both got in and drove out of the station parking lot, Morgan beeped the horn of his car at them as Rick did the same with the sirens of the police car.

Rick and Avery sat in silence for a while before he parked the car on a curb next to a park.

" I'll be right back " Rick said to Avery.

" Okay " Avery nodded as Rick got out of the car.

Avery reached into her back pocket and grabbed a crinkled photo, which was of her, her dad and mom and smiled smiled before flinching, when she heard a gun shot.

" Let's go " Rick said as he entered the car and drove off again as Avery put the photo away.
