I smiled at him as I shut the car door close. His alluring eyes were hard to resist but I had to do for the best. I leaned on the window and pecked him on his cheek. That was enough to send goosebumps spreading on my body.
The kiss last night was mind blowing. I had never expected a kiss especially with Zack to turn me starstruck. I slept with countless boys but usually, kisses weren't a part of the deal. I believe kiss to be too romantic and my theory was just a no strings attached relationships. Zack changed it all. I was beginning to develop feelings for him. I couldn't go without a day without thinking about him. His intimacy and personality was what drew me to him. And when I'm around him, it feels like my heart would jump out of my chest.
He was different from all the stupid boys that were only interested in my body. He cared about me and looked past the walls I had built around me. He was the only guy that never persuaded me into sleeping with him. He was the first guy to allow me see the bright side of the world. He made me understand that not all people are cruel. His friends were amazing. I love being in their company and being regarded as a member.
"Call me when you're ready." He reminded with a kind smile.
I nodded in response. I was so grateful when Eric's sister, Catherine invited me to her private beach wedding. She was very sweet and wasn't acting like a diva. Michael was the perfect match for her and they suited each other. One thing I learnt about them is that the Lockwood family and the Hudson family are very close. They are practically best friends and love each other dearly.
I watched him drove off before I strolled towards the house. It was an early Sunday morning and only a very few people were out. The temperature was average yesterday but the sun his behind the foggy sky today. It was very cold, almost freezing.
Just as I step on the few flight of stairs, Mom opened the door suddenly. It was as if she has being waiting for my arrival. She was still in her morning robe but she looks so furious. Her jaw was ticking as she glares at me. Odd.
"Mom? Is everything okay?" I questioned curiously as I approached her.
She suddenly clasped my wrist and pulled me inside. Dad was sitting on the couch staring intently at the wall. I'm in deep shit. My heart was hammering in my chest as I await the argument coming my way. Jenna was sitting next to Dad. It was as if she had been trying to calm him down before I arrived.
Mom slammed the door close and carelessly shoved me to the dinning table. She forced me to sit on one of the chairs and she sat opposite me. I have no idea what was going on.
"Answer me honestly, Daisy. Are. You. Pregnant?" Her voice exhaled authority and I had no room to escape from that question.
"Mom... where..."
She cuts in. "Answer the damn question already, Daisy! I'm not your mother at the moment. Consider me as Police officer interrogating you."
Zack shouldn't have played police officer last night. I eyed Jenna who was sitting and listening like a mouse. "I can't talk while She's here. She'll have to..."
"Jenna's not going anywhere! She's your sister and she has the right to know what's going on here! Answer me!" Mom's eyes were red with anger.
I took a deep breath and sighed in defeat. "Yes. I'm pregnant."
Silence. Mom bit her lower lip, her shoulders tensed and her hand massaging her knuckles. "We had dinner with the Hudson family last night and they told us everything. Zack Alan Hudson is the father of the baby, right?"
"Yes." I curtly replied.
Dad stood up from the couch and approached us. He stood right next to my chair and I've never being more intimidated in my life. I could feel his eyes boring a hole on my back. I sat still with my eyes on the floor.
"Of all the things I expected you do, this was not part of it. I thought you were smart even though you're rebellious. I never thought you would be that reckless and stupid enough to get pregnant from a good guy like Zack. You're trying to turn him into what you are, right? You want to destroy everything your dear sister has in her life, right?" He spat angrily at me.
Whoa. What does Jenna has to do with this? Why is always in a case and always the victim? That bloody bitch definitely has something to do with this. "I'm not trying to turn Zack into something else. He willingly slept with me."
"No he didn't." Jenna objected. She stood up from the couch and slowly whirled to stare into my eyes. "You lured him into getting you pregnant."
"You stupid bitch..."
"Enough!" Dad interrupted what I started to say. This motherfucking bitch framed me again. When will she learn to mind her own damn business?
"You can't just believe whatever she says! She's a liar! She wasn't there when it happened." I argued.
"Let her talk and then we'll discuss." Mom finalised. I stared at her dumbfounded but said nothing.
"You never slept with Zack. It was because I befriended him that you decided to be friends with him. You wanted to take him away form me." She nastily shook her head. "You always had your way, Daisy. I tried to be a cool sister to you, I tried to accept you fro who you are but you never accepted me. I'm tired of being treated like trash and I'm going to protect Zack from falling for your trap. Perhaps it was another guy's baby..."
I lunched myself towards her both Mom and Dad were quick to hold me back. I struggled to escape from their grip but all in vain. They pushed me back and stepped between the two of us.
"She's lying!" I claimed.
"Admit it! Your sister's telling the truth. You're making this up! If you think you can successfully make us believe your terrible lie just like the Hudson's did, then you're wrong." Mom shot back.
"She only knew him for weeks and I'm not a fortuneteller. I'm already three months pregnant. I met him months before she became friends with him. And I'm definitely not trying to destroy him." I honestly said.
Mom snorted and shook her head in disagreement. "But you became friends with him after she did. Jenna's only your sister. She has being trying to make things worse but you're making it impossible."
"Because you guys never listened to me." I cried out. "She's always right even when it's obvious she's at fault. I was always wrong. None of you guys trusted me. You were cold towards me and you treated her like your little princess. What do you expect me to do?" I confessed. Things were becoming too overwhelming for me. I can't handle it anymore.
"You're not the little girl we used to know, Daisy. You were our perfect, sweet angel. We'll always love you equally but the negative activities you're engaging yourself in are getting out of hand. You forced us to be who we are towards you. We just wanted to best for you. We can't possibly give up on everything to take care of a stubborn child like you and we certainly wouldn't take care of your baby." Dad added.
The words burned me like acid and made me feel uncomfortably lonely in this crowded world. My family refused to believe me. I disappointed them once again. It pained me in my heart to know I failed them once again.
"I'll take care of my baby with it's father. We agreed on certain conditions regarding the pregnancy. I'm sure you talked about it with his parents. But I'm not having an abortion." I announced with my head down. Abortion is off the list no matter what.
"Honey, you can't possibly keep the baby and still go to school. We're already humiliated by your reckless behaviour. Please, let us deal with one thing at a time." Mom insisted. Her eyes widened when I shook my head.
"No. I'd choose neither abortion nor adoption. I'm going to raise my baby and no else would." It's final. My baby is a part of me now. I have something to love and prioritise for the first time in my life.
Dad stepped closer. "You want to keep the baby? Fine. But it's going to be your responsibility. To us, it's just you and no one else. You take care of the baby and all it's expenses. We already have enough problems to deal with."
I nodded my head and stared right back at him. "Yes, I will."
"You'll soon turn eighteen and be on your own. No one will be there for you. You'll fail your exams, be homeless and have a baby alone. Doesn't that terrifies you?"
I stared at Mom but said nothing. Yes, it terrifies me but I love my baby. My baby has a right to live. In my opinion, a baby terminated is like a murder. It has a life and all humans have the rights to live.
"You're turning into Cole. You're becoming abusive and..."
Anger boiled inside me at the mention of Cole. They have no right to accuse him of something he's clean of. I glowered at Dad and cut him off, "Cole is innocent."
"Same old story. You don't even care about your sister. You prefer to defend that abusive guy!" Mom shouted furiously. "You've changed! You're no more the little girl we knew!"
"Yes! That's because I finally realised who I am. This is who I am. When I was younger, I pretended to be someone I was not because I wanted to get your attention." I shrugged sadly. "It never worked. I'm glad I found out who I am and proud." I glared at Jenna whom remained quiet.
"You can say whatever you want but Cole is a bad influence on you and will forever be." Dad said.
I huffed and let out a groan. "You guys are blind! You can't sense the damn truth right under your nose. You thought you're doing the right thing. You're wrong. One day, the truth will come out and you'll have to accept it. Cole was and is still innocent."
I didn't wait to hear what they say afterwards. I quickly strolled to the garage and took my bike. I could hear them shouting my name and telling me to come back but I ignored them. I rode the bike far away before I parked and texted Zack that I wouldn't be at the wedding. I switched off the phone and closed my eyes for a moment.
My parents never cared about me. Jenna has always being their little princess. They care about her and gave her more than she needed in her life. The fact that my parents never questioned why I was out or why I didn't sleep at home was... never mind. But I have someone that cares deeply about me and is willing to do anything for me. He's my comfort and one of the only people that made me stronger.
Cole.
