I fixed my hair into a ponytail before reaching for my phone in my pocket. Immediately, I search through the contact list, looking for my best friend's number. I tried calling both Zack and Jupiter multiple times but none of them picked up. Jupiter was absent at school and Zack was training for the upcoming match the whole time.
I can't lay a finger on it but there was something going on with Jupiter. She had a melancholic expression the previous day and demanded privacy all the time. Last time I checked on her Mom, she was in a very stable condition. Her Dad's still searching for a favourable job and they have enough money to keep them comfortable for months. So, what was the problem?
The call went to voicemail once again. I'll call her later but right now, I have something to deal with. I walked the last few steps towards the Hudson's cosy home and knocked on the door. It took only a few seconds before it was answered.
My lips curved into a smile when I saw who it was. He was dressed in a nice sweatpants and a matching sweatshirt. He was holding a duffel bag and it was obvious he was about to leave for his practice. But then, I noticed something different.
He was glaring at me. He has this dark glint in his eyes like I've never seen before. His features were tense and his jaw was clenching and unclenching. His knuckles were white from tightening his hands into fists.
"Zack, what's wrong?" I asked in confusion. I doubt this is the right moment to ask this question.
A cruel sneer formed on his smooth face. "What the fuck are you doing here?!" I was completely taken aback by his anger.
"What do you mean what the fuck I'm doing here? What happened? Who made you angry?" I reached out to touch him but he flinched away like I was a poison to him.
But it wasn't his fault exactly. I left him hanging like an idiot out of anger. I honestly wanted to apologise for abandoning but I know it wasn't my fault either. I couldn't go to the wedding looking grumpy and acting like some sad bitch. And I'm really bad at pretending to be okay but I'm not. I owe both his family and him an apology.
"You're nothing but a psychopath. I'm disgusted by you and your personality." He said as he pointed a finger on me. I took a step back in amusement. He must have noticed became he dropped his hand and took a deep breath. "I don't want to speak to you. I need my space and I hope you respect that."
He hit my shoulder as he tried to walk past me but I grabbed his shirt. "What the fuck is wrong with you? Why are you acting base on what you see and judge? I have a reason for not going to the party." He was starting to piss me off.
He shoved my hand and grabbed my wrist instead, his face puce with rage. "It isn't about the wedding. Think of the worse betrayal you've ever done in your life. Think of the pain you made someone so close to you went through."
His words chilled my blood. I felt myself softening and old, blocked memories rushing back. He couldn't possibly know about what had happened. I stared at those unblinking eyes which were ablaze with anger. "I don't know what you're talking about."
A smirk appeared on his lips. "I know when you're lying, darling. I must say, you're a bad liar." He dropped his bag and grabbed both my shoulders tightly. "I know what kind of a monster you are. You're a less than average, selfish brat who doesn't give a fuck about the people around you." And then, he was gone.
Fuck no.
I wasn't going to cry. My eyes shouldn't be burning. My vision should be crystal clear and not glassy. I thought I don't know how to cry; how to form those tears in my eyes. Turns out I was wrong. His words stung and I've never felt more humiliated. My heart felt like it was going to explode in my chest.
"Daisy? Is everything okay?" Maya's voice interrupted my thoughts.
I quickly blink back the tears and turn to her with a forced smile. "Your dickhead of a brother just ignored me for not going to the wedding. I'm really sorry I didn't..."
Maya frowned and moved away from the door to let me in. "Hey it's okay. We all knew you had a reason. I just hope everything's okay back there."
She was referring to home which as I am currently speaking, we're still not on good terms. I waved it off. "Everything's going real great. Are you guys ready?"
Paris had phoned me the other night to invite me on a quick visit to their grandmother who was very eager to meet me. I wanted to try something different so I agreed.
"Yeah, we're all ready."

"Excuse me," Kassy said before leaving after her phone started ringing.
We were helping Grace, Zack's grandmother in watering the garden while Paris and her husband were planting more plants. It was a huge beautiful garden with different exquisite flowers. There were the ripe fruits and the swings under the shades of the tree. I couldn't bare to walk with my shoes on so I took them off to enjoy the fluffy, lush grass.
"My grandson's one lucky guy. I can't believe you're the girl." Grace wouldn't stop throwing compliments about how we look perfect together. Which we aren't.
Before I could speak, Eden spoke for me. "Gran, it's not like they're together. She's just carrying his baby and that's all."
I don't know why but Eden disliked me at the very beginning. She has never being nice to me and wanted nothing to do with me. Not that I care but it wasn't my fault I got pregnant with her brother's baby. She's either not there or sending death glares at me. I'm suspecting it could be because of the fact that I wasn't Jenna. She wanted Jenna but she got me instead. It was as if I stole what was meant to be for her.
"Who knows whether they could develop a romantic bond in the near future?" Maya said teasingly without looking up. She was trying hard not to pluck the beautiful pink flowers in front of her.
"No way!" Once again, Eden cut me off.
Grace stared at me with a dirty smirk. "I might not have seen you two together but I'm pretty sure there's a very strong chemistry between you two."
Of course there's the undeniable attraction. If it wasn't there, would I be here standing in a garden with a family I'm not connected to and carrying their descendant?
"Obviously." Maya added.
I dropped the watering can as both my arms were tired. "I was thinking of getting myself a puppy. A puppy and the baby would make good friends." I tried to change the topic. I've being thinking of adopting a dog for past few days. I thought it would be a great idea.
Eden's eyes went wide and she almost dropped her watering can. "A puppy?! That's the most phenomenal idea I've ever heard before! In fact," she walked towards me. "I'll be the babysitter. I'll babysit both the baby and the puppy. All you have to do is just get the puppy!!"
"Everything alright, honey?" Hector called out with confusion clear in his voice.
"She's fine, Dad." Maya responded, "Just going a little bit psycho about puppies," She added an air quote in annoyance.
"My sweet little pea here wanted to have a dog since the day she turned four. She was practically obsessed with them," Grace said with a smile as she brush back Eden's silky hair. "But unfortunately, her parents couldn't get her one. She had allergies when she was a toddler and anything could trigger a serious issue. So, they wouldn't take the risk."
"Now that I overcame them, I can finally have what I want" Eden proudly stated.
It was the first time she was genuinely smiling at me and I didn't want to make it disappear. "I'll think about it," I said and returned back the smile.
I excused myself and left to visit the restroom. And beside that point, I wanted to try calling Jupiter again. The guest restroom wasn't hard to find after the little tour Grace gave me. I went inside, did my business and pulled out my phone. Jupiter never picked up.
I sighed in defeat as I stare at myself in the mirror. Quickly, I wash my face and got out of the restroom. But just before I took another step, I heard muffled sobs - as if the person was trying hard to keep them from coming. I was confused because all them were outside unless...
It came from the guest room. The door was open so I peeked in out of curiosity.
Kassy was on the queen sized bed holding a phone whilst rubbing her growing bump with her other hand. Her hair was mercilessly parked in a messy bun and her face was scrunched up. Both her eyes and nose were red and tears were rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably. She looks like a person who has being going through a lot and I kind of feel bad for her. I wanted to turn around and leave to give her space but the next words that came out of her mouth stopped me.
"Catherine, It's not his baby, I'm not carrying Nathan's baby. I ruined my relationship with Nathan forever because I'm a cheater."
