"Ah man! I'm fed up with that chick already."
My attention directed towards the girl Eric was talking about. His girl-of-the-week was waving at him with bustling excitements from the front row seats of the stadium. Poor girl, she was about to receive her first real heartbreak.
For the past sixty minutes, we have being practicing and training for our upcoming football match with a rival school. I've being missing the points because I was eager to meet Daisy and know if the baby was okay. Damn, its hard to believe I'm getting attached to the baby I'm not sure was mine.
"Hudson, are you sure you're okay? You seemed distant during the match." Coach Dawson said, his eyes filled with little concern.
I bowed my head in respect. "Yes coach, just a little headache."
Liar.
He patted me on the shoulder strongly. "Go home and take care of yourself, son. I don't want us to loose this march to our rivals. I want you to be strong, patriotic towards your school and competitive enough to beat them. You're not only our captain but the best we got. We can never win the march without you. Make us proud."
"Yes sir. I took a vow, and I don't intend on breaking it. I'll try my best." I replied.
He gave me a small smile before dropping his arms and walking away. Our coach had always being the best. Although he's tough and strict, he's an amiable person. I like his excellent training and ambitions that always encouraged me to be more determined to win the match. I always get excited because I know I'll win but lately, I can't stop thinking about Daisy. Since my little chat with Jupiter during lunch, I couldn't wait for school to end to call Daisy.
"Babe!" Eric's girlfriend flung her arms at him, catching him off guard.
"I've being texting you all day, babe. You did amazing during the practice! I'm so proud of you!" She gushed.
Eric was having none of it. It's time for the heartbreaking breakup. Normally, he ended it by just sending a text to the girl but this one, she's way too clingy.
Eric rarely put on a serious look. He always had a cocky demeanour and was all about making people laugh but when he change the mood, something's definitely wrong. He pushed her hands away, stepping back from her. "Look Marley..."
"The name's Harley." She said with a frown.
Obviously, he's having a hard time keeping himself composed. When Eric turns to a serious mood, he looks more intimating and matured. "We can't continue this relationship. I told you from the beginning that I don't stick around. I'm just young, not ready to commit. We've already talked about this and you agreed."
She nodded her head in agreement. "But we started dating two days ago. I thought I could charm you into falling in love with me. Just give it a try, darling."
"I'm... sorry. Take care of yourself and have fun. It's over." Before she could say anything, he walked away.
Maya and her friends, who were all sitting at the stadium seats laughed at them. Countless times, Maya had to deal with girls breaking down to her about how her best friend hurt their feelings. My sister being very close to Eric was used as a way to get both Eric and I. They'd buy her expensive gifts and send to her, hoping she could recommend them to us.
"Dude, let's go change. Unless you want to watch a movie scene unfold," said Eddy, a friend of mine.
"Are you trying to make a monkey out of Eric?" Shawn laughed humorously at the joke.
We left Eric and went to the locker room to change our uniform. The locker room was a bit foggy with the steam coming from the shower. Players were everywhere, chattering as they change back to their normal attires. I removed my helmet, shoulder pads and jersey shirt before sitting on the bench and gazing off into space. I sat half naked, thinking about how my life will change pretty soon. I fingers aimlessly ran through my hair, my mind going blank. I couldn't help but think about the baby. A boy? A girl? Where is Daisy?
Two shoeless feet appeared in front of me. I looked up to find Shawn, his eyes surveying me in displeasure. He sat next to me, "what is your problem, Zack? You've being acting weird lately, as if something's bothering you."
"He couldn't get laid," Keith's annoying voice said, loud enough for all the boys to hear. "Meanwhile, I had a threesome with two gorgeous girls just a moment ago in the restroom."
My hands tightened into a fist in irritation and some of the boys groaned at his dirty reveal. Normally, he likes getting on my nerves but I never respond. He annoys the hell out of me but I always keep my mouth shut to prevent myself from sending him six feet under. He's a player too and I don't want to get involve with him before the big day. I'll try to be as patient as possible. Wait until you find out the truth about your favourite girlfriend and I.
"You broke up with Candy?" One of the boy asked.
"Nah. Just taking a break from our relationship. None of the girls can compete with Candy when it comes to sex. She's so amazing in bed..."
"If you're taking a break, why don't you just let us have a taste? You're having fun with other girls too." Again, one of the boys added. This time, all the boys were nodding in agreement as though she was a toy they could toss around.
"Candy is mine and no one else's. She agreed to let me have an open relationship during our break. She claimed she's abstaining - for five months now and I can't live a day without fucking a girl. An organism a day keeps the worries away. In the end, Candy always comes back to me. Even if she starts seeing someone, she eventually dumps him and come back to me. As simple as that." He shrugged carelessly as if he didn't just reveal what was supposed to be between him and his girlfriend.
Although, I don't appreciate him revealing all their secrets, he helped confirm my suspicion. Daisy had been abstaining for three months before we slept together, which means she was partially telling the truth. It's possible I can be the baby daddy. Only one thing remained unsolved; has anyone at the party that night saw us together?
"Don't listen to him. Tell me what's wrong." Shawn insisted.
I'm not ready to tell him about the baby. It would be better if I confirm it's my baby before informing my family and friends. My reputation may he tarnished but the baby comes first.
"Nothing's wrong," I lied, pulling on the best smile I can. "Where's Korbin?"
Korbin is our geeky, blogger best friend who's always behind his laptop and claiming the library as his permanent home. He's the current Pres of the STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics club. Just a few days before school resumption, he threw his seventeenth birthday party. It was there everything went wrong.
"What do you want from him?" He asked curiously.
"I want to ask him something very important. Is he still in school?"
He paused to think before he respond, "yeah. He's vlogging his dorky stuff on the field."
I rushed to the restroom to take a shower and change my uniform. It took only five minutes to do so, before picking my bag, shutting the locker and dashed outside.
Surely, Korbin lay on the field, chatting animatedly to his camera. He looked ridiculous. Maybe that's why he possessed the same trait as Maya. There are no flies on Korbin's intelligence. He's simply an outstanding guru, with the special traits of a genius. At just sixteen, he had already launched his first game app, and planned to become a technology entrepreneur. As an expert, he helps guide and advice students interested in his aspect on his social media. He has over dozens of students participating in his private classes where he tutors the knowledge he has.
"Dorky Korby" I called out as I walked towards him.
He clicked a button on the camera before turning to me. "Zack Alan Hudson. You done with today's practice?"
"Obviously. Hey, I have a question for you."
He nodded instantly, his curly black hair jerking up and down.
"You invited Daisy to your birthday party, right?"
He nodded. "I did."
"Did you see us together? I mean, did you see me with her? I was drunk and I couldn't remember what happened." I hope he doesn't suspect anything.
There was a pregnant pause before his eyes lit up. "Nah man. I remembered vlogging and that was it. Oh, and I remembered that you left to go to the restroom after getting wasted. I don't remember you leaving because there were so many people having a sleepover."
"Thanks. I'll see you later," I said and walked away before he ask more questions.
I found the paper she gave me in between the pages of my chemistry textbook. I copied the number into my phone and dialled it. I waited impatiently for her to pick up. The first dial went straight to voicemail. I tried the second time and it did the same. After the fifth time, I finally gave up. I was frustrated for being treated like a fool.
Daisy has a lot to explain the next time we meet.
