Chapter 3: We made it to the top eight!

(Y/n) (l/n) ~

Today I'm here at the bey arena where the next round of the Districts is about to begin. When I entered the waiting room, the first thing I saw all of the bey club standing there and it looked like they was lecturing Valt.

"โ€•avoid thinking about beybreads in the middle of the battle. Is that clear?" Rantaro was saying.

"Hi, you too have a battle today?" Valt asked me, completely ignoring Rantaro.

"Yes," I said, stopping by the group but not looking at any of them. I scanned the arena, searching for the incharge.

"Mastered Flash Launch yet?" I asked, still looking here and there.

"No," Valt replied. Rantaro asked me something. I was kinda busy looking around so I couldn't hear him.

"What?" I asked.

"What?" Rantaro asked back.

"What?" I repeated.

"I asked what are you looking for?"

"The incharge, obviously."

"Why?"

I frowned at him, wondering where so much of foolishness comes from, for he was asking the most obvious thing in this world.

"I...have a battle today?" I replied slowly, still studying Rantaro. Then I took my eyes off him and looked around again, finally spotting the guy.

"Hey, you!" I accosted, walking up to him. He looked at me awkwardly. Clearing my throat, I tried again. "Can you, um, tell me when I'm battling? I'm (Y/n) (l/n)."

I thought of saying 'Can you please tell me...' but finally decided not to. He eyed me once more before asking, "Are you the Golden Blader?" I just nodded in reply. Once more he glanced at me suspiciously before searching in his iPad.

"Seems like you're last today," he said. "Maybe till then you can watch others' battles."

"Whatever. I didn't ask for your advice." I was about to walk away when a boy with long blonde hair and another boy with curly black hair came up to the incharge. I stopped to study both of them because this blonde suspiciously looked a lot like the very cocky Wakiya Murasaki.

"Can you please tell me when we're battling? I'm Wakiya Murasaki and this is my friend Hoji Konda," he said politely. The incharge looked at me once again as if to say: This is how you ask for favours. Learn something from these boys.

I shrugged. He started searching in his iPad and Wakiya seemed to notice for the first time that someone else was standing beside him. He turned to look at me.

"I know you," he said.

"Do you?"

"Yeah. You're the famous Gold Blader," he said that in such a way that it felt like he wanted to add on: You may be famous but I'm more famous.

"And?"

"You're a strong blader."

"Of couse I am~"

The incharge interrupted our conversation. "Wakiya Murasaki. You're third today. And Hoji Konda, you're battling tomorrow."

"Thanks," Hoji said and the incharge walked away.

"You're going down. I'm here to win the tournament," Wakiya said to me. Hoji's expression made it clear that he knew Wakiya wouldn't.

"Oh please. You can never beat me. And even if you manage to, there's Valt. And even if you manage to beat him, there's Shu. You got no chance, dear."

Actually I never saw Shu battle but I watched some of the old recordings. That day when we met, the first thing I did after finishing training was watching his previous District battles. He was quite intense.

"Talking of Shu, he definitely is a problem. I lost to him last time. But this time, it's gonna be payback. But Valt... I can't believe that you really think that a beginner like him can take me on. As for you, I will definitely beat you. You just wait."

I could've just walked away, ignoring him but I decided to stay because I never spare those who think they're stronger than me when they're actually not. I simply love to humiliate them. If he can show me attitude even if he's so weak then I can show him better, considering I'm stronger than most of the bladers in this world.

"This attitude's gonna take you down." I said to him.

"I don't think so. You can watch my battle today and see for yourself how skillful I am."

"Very well then. That settled there," I said and walked away to the beyclub. I approached Toko and after trying very hard I managed to say: "Can I borrow your iPad?"

"Yeah. Sure."

I took it and after opening the official wbba website, I typed in the name of Wakiya Murasaki. I looked through his data. Apparently, he's in Block B of the tournament. Aw man... I really wished that I'd gotten a chance to battle him but since he's in Block B, I can only get to face him if he gets to the finals. Yeah, I'm in Block C.

Rantaro and Valt made an attempt to take a peek at what I'm looking, so I decided to reward them with one slap each.

Wow. My handprint looks pretty good on Rantaro's cheek. Maybe I should keep slapping him frequently.

"What are you looking at?" Valt asked me.

"None of your business."

"Valt Aoi go and stand behind the stage door. Your battle is about to begin," the incharge suddenly popped up next to us and said to him. What the-

"Right." He rubbed his cheek before walking away. I returned the iPad to Toko.

"Thanks," I managed. Toko looked at me with his eyes widened.

"Yeah, sure." I rolled my eyes and started walking away.

"You won't watch Valt's battle?" He yelled from behind. I turned to look that others were already going.

"...MmMm, okay. Let's see how good he is."

I got to know from Nika that they have this special place in the corner of the audience area where they usually stand while watching the battle. After Hanami's exaggerating introduction, the blader from the red corner finally arrived.

"And in the blue corner, it's none other than our Wonder Boy who has risen up the ranks so quickly! Who knows what surprises he has for us today?! So let's welcome Valt Aoi!"

The door slided up to reveal a cute Valt, a grin plastered to his face like always. He walked up to the stage.

"And here's an other miracle," Hanami said and suddenly all spotlights were on me. Uh-oh. I just remembered that I wasn't supposed to come here. Do I hide my face? Or do I jump above the railing? Or both of these will attract too much attention? "Here we have the Golden Blader herself in the audience. My, my! What date is it? This must go down in history! (Y/n) (l/n) never comes to watch any battle but here she is. Hope this battle is entertaining enough to impress her!" Just shut up, dude.

Hanami, minus the exaggeration, is my favourite person in this world. But sometimes he can also be annoying. I tilted ny head at a very confused beyclub. "Uh, don't mind Hanami. He's just, uh..."

I couldn't finish my statement (not that I had a proper one to speak). They were staring at me like they've just seen a ghost wearing a party cap. Meaning, weird.

"You're watching any battle for the first time?" Toko asked.

"Funny, right?" I tried to sound sane.

"Definitely not."

------------

"Victory Valtryek with a burst finish. Valt Aoi wins with a score of two to one," the referee said indifferently.

"YES!!" Valt yelled.

"And there you have it!" Hanami said, "One more impressive victory from our Wonder Boy Valt Aoi, as he advances to the next round! Gomen, champion!"

After all that blah blah and stuffs, we met him back in the waiting room.

"I won! I actually nailed it," he praised himself. Daigo, Ken and Rantaro also appreciated him. Shu just smiled. Honestly, I don't think that winning by two to one is a very great thing. He let his opponent take one point. Is that so much heroic?

But they kept talking about the battle like Valt had just won an International Championship.

When I couldn't stand it anymore, I pointed a finger at him. "Not to be that girl but it's not so awesome, okay? He gave one point to the opponent. You should train harder if you want to actually win the tournament."

Valt stared at me wide-eyed. I realised that s very rude but someone had to tell him. So I just stared back, while Shu came to my aid.

"Uh, yeah Valt, she, um, didn't mean like that. She's just saying that you should be more careful."

I gritted my teeth. "I guess."

Valt stared at me like he's seen a ghost with party balloons. "I probably should get used to it."

I just looked away. Why did I have to say that in the first place? If I didn't knew how to advise people, then why did I have to?

From the corner of my eye, I saw the incharge saying something to Wakiya and then Wakiya walking towards the stage door. I looked at the clock and immediately I knew that his battle was about to begin.

I thought about going to the arena and watch like normal audience but then I remembered what happened during Valt's battle. So I decided to shrug away that idea.

"Can-I-borrow-your-iPad-yet-again?" I said quickly. Toko blinked. It's so embarrassing borrowing something from a kid, two times. I'll bring my own from tomorrow.

"Uh...sure," he decided.

I opened the wbba website and clicked the live streaming of the Districts. Wakiya's battle was going on. This time, I did not punch Valt for peeking. But cosidering my hanprint looks good on Rantaro's cheek-Ah, leave it.

"Why are you watching this?" Rantaro asked.

"Who is he?" Valt asked.

"Wakiya Murasaki, a pretty strong blader. He reached the finals last time," Shu informed.

"So...you battled him, right?!" Valt asked enthusiastically. Shu nodded in reply.

"Can you shut up?" I said. "I'm trying to notice something."

"What something?" Valt asked. I didn't reply. That will surely keep him silent.

It did.

"Wild Wyvron with a burst finish. Wakiya Murasaki wins by a score of two to nothing," the referee said like the referee he is. I closed the video and sighed.

"Now tell me. Why were you watching that battle?" Valt asked, pouting.

"You're cute," I said plainly. The tone of my voice was like I'm lecturing someone while I'm trying to praise them. It's so embarrassing sometimes. Either people don't take me seriously at all or they take me too much seriously. So annoying, somebody give me a basket to hide.

"Eh?" Valt was confused as hell. "You mean it...or you're kidding or... Please make it clear. I can't understand."

"Nevermind. I need to go somewhere. And no one will follow me. Especially Rantaro. Is that clear or you want me to make it clear?"

"No, no, no. It's clear as glass," Rantaro said, waving his hands in front of him.

I walked away and after turning two corners or so, I finally came across Wakiya. He looked at me with a sense of truimph, like he had just won against me. He stopped and I leaned against the nearest wall.

"Did you see that? I was so awesome!"

"Yep, sure!" I said sarcastically. "But you got lucky~"

"What do you mean?! I totally won."

"Oh. Wyvron was about to burst, in case you didn't notice."

He looked like he was just pushed off a cliff. "There's noโ€•"

"See for yourself."

He took out Wyvron from his pocket and looked at it. From his expression, it was clear that I was right.

"What exactly are you trying to prove?"

"Nothing. Just wanted to crush your confidence and seems like I succeeded," I laughed.

"You're despicable!"

"I know that already. People very often tell me that." I turned and started to walk away. That felt oddly satisfying, but kids don't try it at home.

"You're gonna pay for humiliating me like this. I'll show you! I'll win the tournament," He shouted from behind.

"Yeah, sure."

I was walking to the spot where the Beyclub was initially standing when I found a Ken standing in my way way. What does he want now? I stooped and waited for him to speak first.

"Oh, hi," Ken (Keru) said, blushing. I raised an eyebrow.

"Uh... I was saying...your battle is about to begin in a while..!"

"You think I don't know?"

"Thought I'd tell!"

I walked off. Not a very nice thing to do but better that punching them. I met the rest of the beyclub on my way. I frowned. "What the heck are you doing here? Y'all didn't go home?"

"What do you mean? We had to watch your battle," Valt said. I looked at him weird. He looked back at me weird.

Then I did something very unexpected. I walked away without a word. Talk about reaching behind the stage just in time. Hanami was saying, "โ€•that has not given a single point to anyone in the Districts yet. It's the American Champion, (Y/n) (l/n)!"

The audience cheered loudly. My fans. Correction: My crazy fans. Wonder what they like so much in me. Then again, I am a pretty decent blader.

The door slided up to reveal me. I walked out of it. At that time, my concern was not my opponent but the Beyclub. I glanced at that 'special spot' where they stand. Valt was grinning and waving like a freak.

Instantly, I felt uncomfortable.

-----------

"Stone Sparyon with a burst finish. (Y/n) (l/n) wins by a score of two to nothing." The audience cheered. I was more interested in the referee's face. How does that man manage sounding so normal?! If I had that job, I'd probably laugh somewhere between the battle.

"And there you have it! Another impressive performance by our favourite blader, (Y/n) (l/n) as she advances to the top eight!" Hanami announced as I walked away.

Valt Aoi ~

"Okay, folks. This was our last battle today but the action will keep going! Tomorrow again here will be the final battles of this round. Until then, sayonara!" Hanami said.

Me and the twins almost ran out of the arena because we didn't want to lose (Y/n). If I don't reach in time, I know she'll just walk back to her home. She's like that. She won't stay unless anyone tells her to. She's just too stupid to understand herself.

I ran up to her just in time as she walked outside the doors of the mall.

"(Y/N)!!!"

She's the only one who can withstand my screaming. So I feel like she's the only one who understands me. Others just keep their hands on their ears, not interested in listening me. I feel so bad.

I was so lost in thinking that I didn't notice that I was still running. And almost ran into the girl. But she turned around just in time to move out of the way and also stop me by grabbed my hoodie from behind, lifting me four inches in the air.

"E-Eh..." I blinked, suddenly feeling taller.

"What do you think you're doing? Running into me like that?"

"Uhh..."

Others also walked out. Honcho looked at the mid-air hanging me like he just saw flying donkeys.

"What is going on here?"

Before I could reply, (Y/n) spoke up. "Me and Valt were just experimenting on how catapults work. I was about to throw him."

"Then throw him!" Keru said.

"What are we waiting for?" Besu said.

"NoOoO," I screamed and she let go of me. Like literally let go of me. I fell to the ground. "Ow!"

Daigo flinched, "That would've hurt."

"(Y/n), where were you going?" I asked.

"Neptune," she answered. I stared at her. She frowned. "Isn't that obvious? Home."

"I also wanna come!"

"No."

"Please."

"No."

"Hmm..."

"No."

"Why are you so mean?"

"I ain't mean."

"Pleeeeeaaase."

"STOP STRETCHING WORDS, YOU KNOW IT ANNOYS ME."

I climbed on her. Others looked at me wide-eyed. "(Y/n). (Y/n)! (Y/n)!!"

"Stop acting like a caterpillar! Stop crawling on me! And get off of my head!"

"Nooooooo."

"Tch, fine, you can come."

"YAAYYY!!!!" I screamed in her cheek.

"Ew you haven't brushed today."

"I have!"

"Shut up and gET OFF OF MY HEAD, YOU CATERPILLAR PERSON."

I got down and grinned. (Y/n) looked away, pouting cute. After a little silence, Shu cleared his throat. "Valt, I'm heading home."

"You don't wanna go to (Y/nnn)'s??"

"Actuallyโ€•"

"Nothing, right?! (Y/n), you mind if Shu also comes?"

She narrowed her eyes. "You're already coming, so it wouldn't be fair to refuse him."

"And Honcho?"

"Wouldn't be fair to refuse him."

"And Ken?"

"Wouldn't wanna see how puppets cry."

"And Daigo?"

"MY HOME ISN'T A HOTEL," She looked at me. "He can come."

"You're so nice!"

She glared and I grinned right back. I'm so awesome!
