Chapter 12: Valt's acting all brilliant and clever today
(Y/n)(l/n) ~
"Who are you and what the heck were you doing up there?" I asked the boy in blue. Apparently, he loved trees so much that he couldn't help sitting on the branches and gazing down at normal people living their lives.
I was currently sitting on his back, holding him down on his stomach with my hands gripping his wrists on his back. I was pretty angry with him, while this boy had the audacity to feel amused at the gesture. His freaking nerve.
"The name's Ukyo Ibuki," he laughed, making me more mad.
"Do all of you have laughing issues?" I asked through gritted teeth.
"Laughing issues..?" he mumbled in confusion, and then realization hit. "You must be talking about Xander!"
I muttered to myself, "Yeah, yeah. That humanoid wall with scarlet hair and a bey named Xeno Xcalius. Those pointed, abnormal, zing-zag, shark-like teeth and laughs like he doesn't know what all other emotions mean." Then I continued loudly, "Yes, him. Are you his long lost cousin? Maybe you got lost in the trees? Or in the shadows? Or maybe Yugo is your cousin, because the first time I met him, he also jumped down from a tree."
"You talk a lot."
"You're wrong."
"So you're a silent one?"
I left his hands and got off him. I casually brushed my clothes to remove any sign of dirt and started walking back to the dojo. Valt must be freaking out by now. I could practically imagine him running around and screaming about me being kidnapped, cockroaches being cute, me having mysteriously white hair, and beybreads being tasty.
He's random this way.
"Don't tell the others that we met," Ukyo called from somewhere behind me, and I figured that Xander, Yugo, Kazama, and maybe even the Ultimate GrandfatherโMaster Shakadera; all of them will mock Ukyo for getting caught in the forest.
Don't get me serious. It's just a thought.
When I returned back, the scene spread in the dojo was quite suspicious. Valt, Rantaro, Ken and the twins were discussing something while standing in a circle. Xander and Yugo were also there, listening to their discussion. Only Daigo and Shu were completely uninterested, standing in a corner, talking to each other seriously.
"โwhen (Y/n) comes back. Okay?" Valt was saying. Rantaro, Ken and the twins eagerly nodded while Xander and Yugo glanced at me.
"You know, she's standing right there," Xander pointed out. Valt jumped a little and turned around. I tilted my head questioningly.
"Where were you?" He asked with a concerned face on.
"Just now you were talking like you already knew where was I."
"Ehh..." he sweatdropped.
"May I know what will happen when '(Y/n) comes back'?" I clasped the right part of my face. The heat is kinda hurting me.
"Actually, we were, uh, thinking about... It was Honcho's idea, by the wayโ"
"Hey! It wasn't my idea," Rantaro protested, and they started arguing. I crossed my arms and turned my gaze towards the twins, who chuckled awkwardly, shrinking even smaller under my stare.
"Step aside, cowards. I'll do this. I'm the bravest person around here!" Alexander finally came forward. Rantaro and Valt stopped their quarrel and looked up at him.
"Don't take my name," Valt whispered to Xander even though I heard him.
"This man here," Xander tapped Rantaro's shoulder, making the latter fall down. What a great opening. "Him and the twins told me you're new and the group doesn't know much about you. Which is to say, you don't tell anything about yourself," he paused to take a deep breath. "So-I-suggested-we-should-play-a-game-so-that-we-all-can-get-to-know-each-other-better," he finished quickly.
Took me four full seconds to comprehend what he said. I figured that by 'knowing each other', they must mean 'knowing (Y/n)'.
There was a pause, and Daigo gave Shu a look that said 'Xander's probably going insane'.
Shu shrugged, and returned back another look. 'Doesn't matter. He's always been like this.'
Valt glanced up and gave Xander a look that said, 'When you said you're the bravest, you meant this?'
Xander grinned back sheepishly.
I broke the silence by asking, "Am I so scary that none of you could muster to speak one statement?"
Daigo shook his head lightly and Shu gave an affectionate smile. The others shuffled awkwardly while Valt scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, well, a-actually, you, um, aren't..."
I smirked at his feared expression, "Boy, you haven't seen scary yet."
Valt gulped visibly and I left him there to comprehend, turning my attention to Ken. "What's the game?"
All of them looked utterly shocked at that. Toko grinned. "So you're really gonna play?"
"...Yes?"
"Let's sit in a circle!" Valt jumped up and down. I was already getting those kindergarten games vibes.
We all sat in a quite obvious order. Valt, then Rantaro, then Ken, Xander, Yugo, Daigo, Toko, me, Shu, Nika, and then back to Valt.
Many reasons were responsible for the seating arrangement to turn out like this. Rantaro didn't wanna sit anywhere near me or Yugo (apparently, we both come straight from hell). Toko wanted to sit beside me (he's a big fan) and Nika wanted to sit beside Shu (she's a big fan), but they both also wanted to make me and Shu sit together (apparently we look like long lost twins or something). So, it turned out as Toko, then me, Shu, and Nika. No one volunteered to sit beside Yugo, so Daigo and Xander did the thing.
"What's the game?" I asked monotonously.
"It's called two truths and one lie," Valt announced happily.
"Do you even know how it's played?" Daigo asked smugly.
Valt's head exploded. "Noโ"
Xander laughed. "I'll explain for those who don't know."
Bruh, I alreaโNevermind.
Toko, Nika, Ken and Valt nodded, making it clear that they don't know. I was quite surprised that Rantaro actually knew. Or he may have just not nodded. I decided to go with the latter reason, because there's no way he can be so brilliant.
"One of us tells three things about ourselves," Xander began. "Two of them will be true, and one will be a lie. We'll not reveal which one it is, and the others will have to guess, okay?"
Valt raised his hand. "Guess what?"
"The lie. What else?"
"Oh."
Xander continued, "For example, if I say: I am a blader, I've green eyes and Yugo is my friend. It's clear that I don't have green eyes, so that one's a lie. Got it?"
Valt nodded eagerly. "I'll go first!"
The others mumbled in agreement.
He rubbed his hands together, and started, "I'm not Valt, I love beybreads, and my bey is Valtryek."
"You've gotta say something difficult," Nika told him. Valt pouted.
"Should've told earlier," he mumbled cutely then said again, "Okay, I named my socks. I like to draw. And my most frequently used word is beybattle."
Okay...that was quite clever. I was personally stunned how Valt managed to make this difficult. All three of them seemed the truth.
The others mumbled confusingly amongst themselves until Yugo asked Toko, "You're his brother. Do you know if he named his socks?"
"Uh," Toko was also in daze. "I don't remember anything about Valt naming his socks. He normally tells us about such things, so if that would've been the case, Valt would've came jumping happily to introduce them. But on the othโ"
Nika cut him off. "On the other hand, it's very Valt-like to name his socks." She glanced at Valt, who was uncontrollably giggling at our confused faces.
I still couldn't believe that Valt managed to make this so hard. Yugo urged Toko more, "And what about drawing? Does he like to draw?"
"I never actually thought about it..." Toko mumbled. "He does draw very often, but all his drawings are horrible."
"Hey!" Valt protested.
Shu shook his head. "His drawings maybe bad, but this doesn't mean that he doesn't like to draw."
"Okay, so that one's a truth," Daigo confirmed with a nod. "It doesn't matter if he can or can't. He likes to draw; that's all."
"Now the third one," Rantaro said. "Is beybattle the word he uses most frequently?"
"We all do know that he keeps talking about beybattles all the time," Ken (Besu) said.
"Yup, that's also a truth," Toko confirmed. "I'm giving my answer. The socks one was a lie."
Yugo nodded. "I'm with the kid. The socks one was a lie."
"Same," Nika said.
"I'll go with it," Daigo said.
"I agree," Xander said.
"The socks one," Shu nodded.
"Me too," Ken (Besu) said.
"Yeah," Rantaro said.
"Now tell us the real answer," Xander said to Valt.
"Only after everyone gives their opinions," Valt grinned at me. "(Y/n) is still left to give the answer."
I kept my index finger on my chin, trying to read the expression on Valt's face. If all of them have a wrong answer, Valt should look smug. If their answer is correct, Valt should look a little disappointed.
But he looked normalโhappy and grinning. Damn, his all other emotions are always overshadowed by his enthusiasm. It's always been hard to tell by his expression.
I wondered yet again. Is beybattle really the word he uses most frequently? What about beybreads? What about Valtryek?
"The third one is a lie," I decided. "The beybattle one."
"You sure?" Valt smiled.
"Yes," I smiled right back and Valt's eyes lit up even more, making me lose my smile. Ugh. Sometimes this annoys me. What can't this smile be there for once?
"Yup," Valt announced. "(Y/n) is correct. My most frequently used word is battle, not beybattle. What kind of friends y'all are? I always say battle instead of beybattle. No one ever noticed?"
The others groaned and Valt continued scolding them for being such bad friends.
"Actually, I didn't think about battle instead of beybattle," I confessed. "I thought about beybreads and Valtryek."
"See," Toko muttered back to me. "Valt is having effects on you. You're now thinking about beybreads and Valtryek. I suggest you back off before you go fully insane."
"Did I ever say that I like you?" I murmured, cursing myself for speaking that emotionlessly.
Toko blushed. "No..!"
It's official. It's finally official. Toko Aoi is more adorable than Valt Aoi. Everyone write it across you foreheads now!
"I like you. I'm saying it now," I whispered back, giving him a wink.
Toko grinned, and we returned our attention back to the commotion that had filled the room by then. I noticed that Valt's wrath was even worse than Lui's. While Lui is generally like, 'Our friendship ended the day you dared to become stronger than me, (Y/n). You forgot that I'll always be the best. Get ready to be destroyed!'
And Valt is just now like, 'You dared to think that I didn't name my socks. What kind of friends are you? You don't even know me properly. Get ready to be shouted at!'
"Okay, Valt. You can stop torturing them by shouting in their ears. It was just a game," I pointed out.
He stopped screaming in Daigo's ear and swiftly walked back to sit down. Then he glared adorably. "(Y/n) has been my friend for lesser time than you traitors. How could you get it wrong?"
"It's me next," Daigo volunteered, completely ignoring Valt. "Listen, I like cats more than dogs. My favourite colour is black. And I cut off a girl's hair in school when I was five."
"Whoa. That last one caught me off guard," Xander admitted. "Did you really do that?"
"Why not?" I shrugged. To be honest, I didn't find anything so surprising in that. "I pulled my teacher's hair when I was only four years old. It was because she had scolded me that day for not completing my homework."
"It was the teacher's fault that you didn't do your homework?!" Rantaro laughed. "You punished her instead?"
"I was innocent back then," I argued. "I didn't know if I was supposed to do such things to a teacher or not. I did it merely because I felt like it."
"That's intense," Toko said.
"That isn't it. I've done worse things."
"Like?" Shu raised an eyebrow.
"I threw porcelain and glass crockery at my babysitter when I was six years old. My parents had gone out, leaving me in that his care, but I didn't like the idea. I thought I was big enough to cope with it myself. And that was my way of protesting."
They all laughed at this, but I didn't find anything laughable.
"It's not funny. He got seriously injured by all those shards," I informed, making them go silent.
"Okay so Daigo cutting off a girl's hair at age five, can or cannot be a lie," Yugo concluded. "What about his favourite colour? Is it black?"
"Seems so," Nika said. "I mean, look at his appearance. Most of his clothing is black. Why would he wear black if it's not his favourite? And yeah, his eyes and hair are also black."
Wow! Didn't even notice that yet! So new! Thanks, Nika!
"So that confirmed? Somebody help me. I'm not getting any ideas," Valt asked, clearly reaching his mental capacity. Poor boy had already used up all of his brain while thinking about his own question.
"What about the first one?" Xander asked.
"We all know that Daigo adores cats," Rantaro answered. "But we don't know if he likes cats more than dogs or less than dogs. That's the problem."
"You see, Daigo's not stupid," Rantaro mentioned. "That's why he didn't only say that he likes cats. He added more than dogs."
I eyed him, desperate to find any expression on his face that says something. But it was nothingโhis same normal calm self.
"No, he definitely likes cats more," I said, earning everyone's attention. "Because I'm in the same position."
Daigo looked shocked for a moment, but then he smiled. "Who thought a scary person like you could love cats?"
Rantaro wasn't yet convinced. "But it isn't possible that he feels the same about dogs as you do."
"No, Rantaro. I know that feeling," I said dramatically. "When you like cats, you always like them more than dogs. It's natural."
Daigo smiled to himself, furthur confirming my statement.
"If you say so..." Xander said. "Because you were correct the last time, you can be right again."
"So, the cutting off that girl's hair can be a lie?" Toko asked.
"Here's my theory!" Valt jumped up to his feet. Everyone groaned in disagreement.
"You stay shut," Ken (Besu) said.
"Valt, we don't want your stupid theories right now," Rantaro sighed.
Valt whined. "At least listen to me!"
"You both let him speak," Nika scolded Ken and Rantaro.
"Thanks, lil sis!" Valt grinned, and then cleared his throat. "(Y/n) has so much in common with Shu, so why can't she have her behaviour common with Daigo? They both have that cat thing same. When Daigo said about cutting off that girl's hair, (Y/n) also mentioned some intense things she did in her childhood. Soooo, my theory is that the both of those things are true. (Y/n) confirmed it. Clearly, the colour one is a lie!" he finished ranting.
All others had their jaws dropped. Valt looked around and frowned. "I made so much effort! Y'all should reward me with a beybread each."
Most of them (like Shu and Xander) smiled shook their heads. Some (like me and Yugo) just stared in disbelief. Valt grinned sheepishly. "Or the least you could do is clap for me."
The others clapped and we agreed to Valt's theory because none of us had any better ideas.
"Yes, the colour one was a lie," Daigo finally confessed. "Valt is getting less and less stupid day by day."
I looked at Daigo. I guess him and I had more in common than I thought. Moreover, he's completely sane (unlike Valt, Rantaro and Ken). I should hang out with him sometime. We can endlessly talk about cats and no one will judge us. Yay!
"So what's your favourite colour then?" Ken (Besu) asked.
"It's purple. People think it's black because of my clothes."
"And what are the names of your socks?" Ken (Keru) asked Valt.
"Hehe....The right one is called Agaru, and the left is Ayako. Don't tell anyone," he said making us all sweatdrop.
Who else does he think we would tell?
"Your turn," Rantaro pointed at me.
I said my sentences without missing a beat. "I like grim reapers. My favourite weapon is a sword. There's a person in my life that I want dead."
"Whoa, chill," Rantaro's eyes widened. "Why are you always so aggressive? Is that what normally comes to your mind when you try to introduce yourself?"
Oops. Was that really so evil?
"Uhh," I looked around awkwardly.
Rantaro breathed and calmed himself. "Soo, what do y'all think?"
Toko raised his hand. "I wouldn't be surprised if (Y/n) really wishes a person dead."
"So it's a truth?" Ken (Besu) asked.
"We can't say anything about that one yet, but," Daigo looked at me. "Considering Valt's theory of me having so much common with (Y/n), I think the grim reaper one is true."
"You also like grims? Why?" Xander asked.
"Because Doomscizor."
"So wouldn't that mean that she likes demons more?" Rantaro said in the same tone as Daigo's. "Because Sparyon."
Daigo looked at him blankly. "She said about liking grims. She never said anything about liking grims more than demons, or hating demons at all. Focus on the wordings."
Rantaro went silent. Haha, take that!
"What's a grid weeper, by the way?" Valt laughed sheepishly.
"Grim reaper," Shu corrected.
"That's what I said! Grin treeper."
"It's grim reaper."
"Same, same. Grip reader."
Silence.
"What is that?" Valt asked.
"Who will tell him?" Rantaro asked. "Don't look at me."
"Me neither," Daigo said.
Nika and Toko shook their heads. "Our minds will deplete if we try to explain anything to Valt."
"Okay, okay!" Valt shook his head and grinned adorably. "Just whatever y'all are talking, guess her lie correctly."
"And why would she like a sword?" Rantaro squinted his eyes suspiciously at me. I shut my eyes angrily.
"As long as I remember, Sparyon has an axe, like Spryzen," Toko agreed.
"Exactly!" Ken (Keru) said. "This one's gotta be a lie."
"But isn't this too obvious?" Daigo said. "Why would she say something which is obvious?"
"You're right," Xander said.
"But maybe she wants us to think that," Yugo said. "Is she clever enough?"
"eNOUGH, YOU SAY?!" Rantaro and Valt suddenly started yelling. "SHE'S TOO CLEVER."
The others fell into confusion again. I wasn't mentally laughing. I was mentally facepalming at these people's stupidity. What I asked, is freakin' easy.
"Okay, I'm going with the sword one," Xander said finally.
"I'm going with the grim one," Shu decided. Half the others agreed with Xander, and the other half with Shu.
"Okay, tell us," Toko said.
I asked amusingly, "Y'all wouldn't be surprised to know if I really want someone dead, huh?"
All of them had their reactions ranging from wide-eyes to disappointment. Valt stared. "So you don't want anyone dead?"
I grinned. "Kids, would you be surprised if I say that I want more than one person dead?"
Rantaro, Ken and Toko gasped dramatically. Shu and Daigo shared a blank look. Xander and Yugo looked disappointed in themselves.
Valt squealed. "This should be made into a movie. This should be made into a movie! That line was so damn frightening. It gave me chills. It could be a dialogue in an horror movie. It should be."
I decided to ignore that.
Daigo said, "I never thought about being it more than one person. That was actually brilliant."
Shu looked interested. "Who and how many are those people you hate so much?"
"Two."
"Who?"
"No one important to you," I waved my hand normally. That rhymed, didn't it?
It's obviously Lui Shirosagi and Theodore Glass. They both are the most annoying personalities in this whole dear world.
"Next turn's mine," Rantaro volunteered himself.
"I'm going now," I remembered. "Training."
