FIRST LOVE
- a sweet high school confession requested by cuddly_gummy
"Look who it is," Areum sings, her eyebrows raising in a knowing yet teasing way. The girls surrounding her join in, some hiking their thumbs over their shoulders while others just opt for making suggestive faces. You furrow your brows at their sudden commotion, glancing warily over their heads to see Min Yoongi walking into the cafeteria with his basketball team, in the midst of bidding them goodbye as he goes to sit with his group of friends. You duck your head down in embarrassment, shooting each girl a look of warning.
"Shut up," you hiss, putting a finger to your lips as they send themselves into another—louder—fit of giggles. You roll your eyes as they show no sign of stopping and send your gaze back to Yoongi, resisting the urge to sigh dreamily when he runs a hand through his hair.
"You could just talk to him, y'know," Areum offers, interrupting your daydream session with a small smile, still wiping tears from the corners of her eyes. You scoff and shake your head, giving her an obvious look of disbelief, one to which she rolls her eyes to.
"Talking to him isn't that easy. There's a very long and stressful process towards doing something like that and it involes weeks and weeks of planning to make sure every sentence is per—"
"We get it," Areum interrupts yet again, playing around with her hair as you let your words falter, "you're just too chicken to do it."
"I am not," you lie, feigning mock hurt as you press a hand to your chest dramatically. She snickers behind her hand, picking up a carrot stick with slight annoyance as she narrows her gaze in on you.
"Stop lying to yourself," she gently scolds, waving her carrot stick around as she continues. "You've been drooling over him since the fourth grade. Now I know we only met in the fifth grade so I missed the baby stages of this mega crush you have on him but it doesn't mean I don't know how you feel about him. You need to make your move before someone else does and who knows? He could like you back."
She takes a bite out of her carrot stick, the snap making you flinch. Nodding, you look over at his table to see him standing up with a lazy smile on his face. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Areum shooting you a thumbs up as she not-so-discreetly motions in his direction.
You shake your head at her, your eyes following Yoongi as his friends nudge him towards your table, punching him playfully in the arm as he tries to push himself towards the exit. You watch intently as he holds his hands up in surrender and nods, shaking his head to himself as he slowly turns his head towards your table.
His deep, earthy brown eyes meet yours and for a split second, you forget how to breathe. His Cupid's bow shaped lips twitch up into a warm smile, one that fills you with an indescribable feeling of joy. He raises his hand and waves at you in what seems to be a shy manner. His friends encourage him with smiles and cheers of their own but you're blind to the commotion surrounding him.
Your focus is on him and him only.
That is until Areum kicks out her leg, her boot making contact with your shin. You curse and give her a look that could kill. She seems unfazed by it and makes a wave with her hand, mouthing at you to do the same to him. Panicking, your left hand clutches your throbbing shin while the right raises to send him an urgent wave, your smile becoming more like a grimace as the pain and awkwardness of the situation begins to set in.
He furrows his brows in confusion, smile faltering noticeably. Your heart deflates at the sight, hand dropping to hit the table loudly. He doesn't break eye contact with you, shaking his head for a few seconds before letting out an inaudible chuckle. You can feel the heat rise to your cheeks as you nervously shrug, this time returning his final wave with a small smile, watching him until the cafeteria doors close behind him.
You groan, dropping your head onto the table. There are laughs at the table but you're too embarrassed to even bother telling them to cut it out. Looking up meekly, you meet Areum's eyes, clearly able to see the cogs spinning in her mind. Giving her a curious look, you await her explanation with a pout.
"I think Min Yoongi likes you," she mutters honestly, taking another bite of her carrot stick as she glances at the doors in suspicion.
"Shut up," you whine, dropping your head into your hands with another groan.

"Shit," Yoongi curses once the cafeteria doors close behind him, unable to shake the suspicious look Areum shot him from his mind, once again worrying over whether he was being too obvious or not.
"Hyung! That was perfect," Jimin compliments, winking suggestively at the older as he takes the shove Yoongi gives him lightheartedly, grinning as he runs a few steps ahead to avoid more of his hyung's physical abuse.
Jin rolls his eyes and swings his arm over Yoongi's shoulders, pulling the worried boy into his side affectionately. Yoongi whines at the contact but shows no sign of moving, his soft side relishing in the physical support from his friend for as long as he possibly can. Jin finally releases Yoongi to look at him in slight concern, the cheekiness in his eyes barely dimming as his eyebrows knit together.
"What's wrong? Are you not happy with what happened?" Jin asks, his observant side once again getting the better of the brooding boy. Yoongi looks up at his hyung, teeth immediately beginning to worry his bottom lip as he tries to imagine just what Areum could be saying to you.
The thought alone makes his heart speed up and his head spin.
"A-Areum. She gave me a look—but it wasn't a casual look, it was more of a I-know-what-you're-hiding look—," Yoongi sighs, closing his eyes to clear his mind, stopping himself from rambling on further as he reopens his eyes to send Jin an apologetic smile. "I'm just worried that she'll find out, that's all."
"Find out that you like her?" Jungkook chimes in, the look in his eyes far off from matching the innocence conveyed so persuasively in his smile. Without even having to ask, Yoongi already expects the youngest of his friends to put him into a situation that he is physically unable to get out of.
As if Yoongi's thoughts had been relayed into Jungkook's mind, the younger walks behind Yoongi and in one move, has the boy in a headlock, the older complaining—rather loudly—about the disrespect Jungkook has for his hyungs.
Jungkook, however, ignores it and instead voices his opinion on this whole situation.
"My bet is that Y/N likes you back. No girl looks at a guy like that unless she wants to do hi—" Jungkook's sentence gets cut off by an elbow into his ribs, the younger immediately loosening his hold enough for Yoongi to slip out, straightening his uniform with a scowl.
"Fine," Jungkook bitterly remarks, a slight wheeze in his voice from the pain of his ribs making Yoongi wince with guilt, his hand immediately reaching out to rub soothing and apologetic circles on Jungkook's side. "Unless she wants to go out with him. And besides, I know Areum. If she were planning on telling Y/N, they'd both be out here, demanding an answer from you."
Yoongi nods, Jungkook's reasoning putting most of his nerves to rest, a small smile tugging his lips upwards. Sneaking a glance back at the doors to the cafeteria, he can't help the rosy blush that puts a little colour back into his pale skin as he thinks of Y/N, wondering if she might just be talking about him.
"Although," Namjoon butts in out of nowhere, Taehyung and Hoseok flanking his sides like weird bodyguards. "I do think that your efforts are a little too noticeable if someone like Areum is able to catch on. However, I do not think that this is a bad thing. The sooner she finds out, the sooner you two can start dating."
"Noticeable?" Yoongi mumbles, casting his gaze down the floor. He doesn't look up, even when Hoseok places his hand on his shoulder in support, opting to stay quiet to give Yoongi some time to think.
Sadly, that time is short lived.
"I mean, you do stare at her a lot and the constant waves may seem friendly but when you do them every time you see her, it starts to become a little obvious. Not to mention the way your face goes red whenever she looks at you—" Taehyung explains, rambling on until he stops with a thoughtful hum, looking Yoongi innocently in the eyes. "You're really bad at this, huh?"
Groaning, Yoongi shrugs Hoseok's hand off his shoulder and storms off, leaving the other men to watch him walk away with looks of sympathy in their eyes. Jin, however, instead sports a look of determination, his hand held out expectantly.
"Does anyone have Areum's number?"

"Areum! I don't understand why I have to go inside the gym," you complain, trying to resist the strong hands pushing into your back to no avail. She only pushes you into the door, sighing in exhaustion as you turn to face her with confusion.
"Why am I here?" You question, hoping she'll answer with words this time instead of another shove to the back. She flicks a strand of hair out of her eyes and grins.
"Mr. Lee wanted us to do him a favour. He needs you to organise the equipment room while I go and lock up the P.E classroom," she explains, rocking on her heels as you furrow your brows together. Since when do teachers ask Areum of all people to do stuff for them?
"Are you sure?" You ask, uncertainty lacing your tone nervously as she offers you a nod and a warm smile, turning her back to you before you can get another word in. You watch as she bounds down the hallway, sighing heavily as you shrug and push open the oddly heavy gym door with a grunt.
Although, the gym isn't empty, a person turning around in surprise at your sudden entrance.
You gape openly as you observe his sharp jaw, chin, and cheekbones. On either side of his straight nose are two blazing hazel eyes. Spiked, warm brown fringed with smooth green. His dark brows are actually graceful, but currently furrowed in a frown. All of it is framed by thick, warm dark chocolate curls. His muscled back is bare. You can't see his chest. Part of you wishes you could. The other very small part said you should get ahold of yourself.
You let out a shaky sigh.
"Y/N? What are you doing here?" Yoongi chuckles, quickly grabbing his shirt from the benches, slipping it over his chest as you whimper quietly in disappointment, clearing your throat as his head sticks out from the top of his shirt, eyes meeting yours.
"Uh, Areum said Mr. Lee wanted me to organise the equipment room," you explain sheepishly, fiddling with your hands, taking his silence as a signal for you to continue. "Sorry for walking in on you, I should've knocked."
He nods, dropping his head tiredly with a soft yet oddly dark laugh. "No, it's okay. I was running through some drills while I waited for Mr. Lee to come and show me the new uniform ideas. The same uniform ideas that Jin told me I was supposed to come and look at."
You gasp, hand fluttering over your mouth as he takes a seat on the benches, chugging down half the contents of his water bottle.
"So we've been played?" You conclude, looking at Yoongi for confirmation. He offers you a nod, looking confused as you jog over to the door, laughing to himself when you try to open it and it doesn't budge.
"Stupid bitch," you curse, sulking your way back over to Yoongi, plopping yourself down beside him. He shakes his head fondly before gently throwing it back to lean against the wall.
"This isn't so bad, right? I'm glad I'm stuck in here with you and not some other person," he honestly states, glancing over to see you smiling brightly, the action making your cheeks bunch up adorably.
"Yeah, I'm glad I'm here with you too," you softly reply, too nervous to look back at him.
"Although," he muses, leaning forward slightly with a knowing look in his eyes. "I think I know why we are in here."
"And why would that be?" You question, taken aback by the teasing tone delicately bouncing off your words.
He raises an eyebrow but continues with his assumption. "They want us to confess."
You don't say a word, struggling to find something that wouldn't make this situation more awkward than it is. He stays silent, gulping rather loudly despite so desperately begging himself to keep quiet. Your eyes widen slightly as you turn to him with a smile that hopefully shows that you have no idea what he's talking about.
"C-confess? C-confess w-what?"
Damn you, stutter.
"Confess...our feelings for each other," he breathes out, a hopeful look in his eyes as meets your gaze yet again. Shock flits through you almost pleasantly as a sudden rush of warmth makes you smile.
"You have feelings for me?"
He chokes on air for a few seconds before straightening and offering you a shy smile, the look going well with the pinkish tint to his cheeks. "Do you have feelings for me?"
You roll your eyes, noticing the way you seem to feel more confident in front of him. "Of course I do, you dork! I've liked you since the fourth grade!"
"Oh," he sighs in relief, giving you the biggest smile you've ever seen on his face. "I like you too. Only, I started liking you in the sixth grade."
You suddenly can't stop smiling, the euphoric feeling of Min Yoongi liking you back most likely not going to fade until a few weeks from now. He grabs your hand, intertwining your fingers with his, a gentle and caring smile greeting you welcomingly.
"About damn time!" A male and very distinguishable voice yells from behind the door. You giggle as Yoongi stands, tugging you behind him as he jogs towards the door. Opening it with a dizzy smile, you watch as smiles of pride bloom on all of their faces as they catch a glimpse of your hands clasped tightly around one another.
"We did that," Areum mutters, fist bumping Jin as the boys begin bombarding you two with questions, the light blushes on both your cheeks enough to make them all burst into a fit of laughter.
