FORGET HER

- in which jungkook just can't seem to get his ex off his mind so you try your hardest—as his new girlfriend—to rid him of the memories of her; requested by blueepoetic

Squirming around with a cheeky smile, you slowly rest your head upon Jungkook's chest, his chuckle deep as he drapes his arm across your middle, your head bouncing with the vibration of his fond laugh. Instinctively, he lifts his free hand to your hair and begins to sift his fingers through the locks, the faint but sweet floral scent of your hair putting a satisfied smile onto his face.

You hum mindlessly as you scroll through the list of movies displayed on Jungkook's screen, noticing the way he just silently watches you with a smile, allowing you to choose what the two of you while away your afternoon watching. Swallowing down your giggle, you find a comedy that you used to watch a few years ago and turn to look at Jungkook expectantly.

He breaks himself out of his trance and flicks his eyes to the screen, his smile now melancholic as you pout in confusion, reaching up to cup his face.

"Chae used to watch this movie with me," he mumbles, scoffing pathetically at himself as he throws his head back with a groan. "I used to hate it but, of course, she made me watch it with her and I could no longer hate it. It made her laugh so much and I think I watched her more than I watched the mo—"

He brings his gaze back to you, sighing when he sees you nodding slowly, your bottom lip in between your teeth as you worriedly play with your fingers.

"Sorry," he whispers, pressing a kiss to your forehead apologetically as you turn your head back to look at him, tilting it curiously as your heart begins to pound against your rib cage. What you're about to ask him could be risky or relieving but it needs to be done.

For your sake, at least.

"Do you still love her?" You ask firmly, your face expressionless as you await your answer patiently, ignoring the guilt sickeningly bubbling in your chest.

Chae, with her glowing smile and beautiful soul, is Jungkook's ex-girlfriend. The two only broke up about three months ago and when he found out that she had already moved on with someone new, he decided that it was time he do same. Luckily for him, you were single and just his type.

So, of course, you became the one to fill in the giant gap that Chae left behind.

You see, Chae and Jungkook were perfect for each other. They rarely argued and shared almost everything in common but something snapped inside of Chae and she couldn't take it anymore. Jungkook was left heartbroken, his body merely a shell as he went by his days sulking to his friends. When he started dating you, he began to open up a little and started to enjoy life again but it was obvious that he wasn't going to let the memories of Chae go so easily.

Whether it be your choice of clothes or way of eating, Jungkook would always find a way to relate it to his time with Chae. At first, it annoyed you to hear her name every single time you did something. After all, you were his girlfriend now and it hurt to hear him talk so fondly about another woman.

But as time went on and he slowly came around to understanding what he was doing, you pitied him. Every time he would make the mistake of saying her name, he'd sigh, bring you into his arms and apologise, the guilt in his eyes still present even after you assured him that it was okay.

"No, I don't," he quickly answers, eyes wide in alarm as his hold on you tightens noticeably, your heart singing in relief. "I promise. I'm sorry—again."

Clicking your tongue in annoyance, you cuddle up to Jungkook, wrapping your arms around his torso as he smiles in return, pressing several kisses to your head as you laugh.

"I'm not mad, Kook," you reassure gently, peering up at him with big eyes, "but I do want to help you get out of this habit."

An idea slowly begins to form in your mind as he tucks a strand of your hair behind your ear, eyebrows furrowing in confusion as he glances down at you. "How?"

Your lips stretch into a smirk, eyes glistening with mischievousness as he stares at you strangely, finding himself nervous for whatever you seem to have planned.

You spread your arms out wide, motioning towards the scenery with a goofy smile, his mouth open in slight disbelief as he stares at you in utter confusion. Feeling embarrassed, you lower your arms and return to the car where he stands, looking at the ground in shame.

"Why are we here?" He asks quietly, tilting your chin up with his index finger, his eyes glittering prettily when you meet them with your own. His smile is small yet the amusement radiating from it is warm and reassuring.

"Well, I wanted to take your mind off Chae so I thought it would be fun if we came down to the beach before sunset and take a walk—y'know, like you've always wanted to? I was hoping that by making new memories with me, it'd replace some of the ones with her," you explain with a sigh, childishly pointing towards the beach.

He doesn't say anything, his smile faltering as a breeze runs over the two of you, your heart sinking at the lack of reaction from him. Shaking your head, you shoot him a small smile and pat the top of the car, taking a few steps back so you can round the corner.

"Never mind, let's just go," you chirp, turning on your heels to make your way to your side of the car. Before you can start walking, however, he wraps his slender fingers around your wrist, tugging you back effortlessly. Gulping, you look over your shoulder, surprised to see Jungkook standing there with an amused smirk, his free hand shoved into his pocket.

He tugs your arm until your back is pressed up against his chest, the hand holding your wrist now snaking itself around your middle. His warm breath fans your cheek as he brushes his lips against your ear.

"I want to do it with you," he whispers, grinning when you blush and look at your shoes, nodding shyly at nothing in particular. Humming in approval, he starts walking out in front of you, chuckling as you jog to catch up with him, tucking your hair behind your ear with a smile.

Pretty soon, the two of you reach the sand, your smiles wide as you take your shoes off and continue walking, the salty tang in the air calming your racing nerves. You cast a curious glance in his direction, smiling when you see him sighing in relaxation, his eyes closed in contentment.

Giggling to yourself, you race ahead, your destination being the cold looking water a few meters ahead. Jungkook cracks an eye open when he hears you squealing, his smile fond as he watches you splash around in the water. You notice that his attention is now on you and wave him over, kicking water all over him as he approaches. Growling menacingly, he mimics your action, laughing when you scream as the cold water touches your skin.

You reluctantly leave the water and join him a little further up on the sand, looking over his shoulder at the golden sun as it dips below the horizon, your lips parting in awe. He nibbles on his bottom lip, sliding his hand down your arm until it reaches your hand, slowly intertwining your hands together.

Your eyes widen but you keep your gaze locked onto the sunset, knowing very well that he's looking at you. He allows himself to study your appearance, finding your beauty breathtaking underneath the golden glow of the sun. His thumb begins to rub slow circles onto the skin of your hand, his heart aching with an emotion that he didn't think would ever be as strong as it was before; love.

After a few more hours of enjoying each other's company, the both of you decide to head back home, your smile effortless as you walk towards the car, Jungkook trailing behind you, his hand still holding onto yours tightly.

"Did it work?" You ask hopefully, turning to face him with pleading eyes. He taps your nose affectionately and nods, giving you a quick thumbs up.

"I haven't thought about her in a while," he admits with a gentle smile, watching as you cheer in success.

"Does that mean we'll have to continue on with your plan to make sure it stops for good?" He questions curiously, taking a suggestive step towards you. Oblivious to his advance, you hum thoughtfully, tapping your chin playfully.

"Of course. We are dating, after all. It only makes sense that we go out," you chuckle, rolling your eyes cheekily.

"Good."

With that, he leans in, capturing your lips in his as his hand cups your cheek, tilting your head to give him better access. You smile into the kiss, allowing him to press you up against the car, his other hand resting on your waist.

He suddenly pulls away, breathless and needy, his thumb caressing your cheek slowly. "I'm so glad I have you."

You laugh, pecking his lips with a sweet smile as he brings you in for a hug, burying his face into your neck.

"I love you," he whispers, so quiet that you almost miss it, your cheeks heating up at those three words.
