A GREAT BIG MESS

- in which hoseok, your best friend, attempts to help you get together with jungkook, the school's big bad boy, only if you help him get together with his crush, april. throw in some secret letters from a not-so-secret admirer and what do you get? a great big mess; requested by Gabbs207

"Are you gonna do homework?" Hoseok asks as he tiredly trudges his way into your room, tossing his bag by the door as he yawns loudly before allowing himself to fall onto your bed. You roll your eyes from the door way, neatly placing your bag at the foot of your bed as you lower yourself beside him, resting your head on his warm chest as his arm wraps around your waist.

"Do you know me at all?" You mumble with a snicker, referring to his question about homework, his chest vibrating as he, too, laughs at your response. He habitually pulls you into his side, your leg swinging over to rest on top of his, a small smile of content stretching your lips out as the events of the day catch up to you, your eyes so badly wanting to droop shut.

"Hey," Hoseok gently nudges, ignoring your whines of protest as you send him a sleepy glare. "You can sleep after we talk."

"Talk about what?" You whine childishly, smacking his chest lightly to get him to hurry up as he rolls his eyes with a sigh, catching your wrist before you can hit him once more, his expression feigning hurt and betrayal.

"Look at how you treat me, Y/N. What kind of best friend does that?" He gasps, allowing your hand to fall limp onto his chest, giggling when you sit yourself up with a red face, looking ready to yell at him for wasting your time.

You and Hoseok met in the late summer of '04, the two of you just getting settled into middle school. He was adorably optimistic and immediately caught your attention with his contagious laughter and jaw dropping smile. You approached him and asked if he would mind if you sat with him, smiling politely when he agreed to let you do so. Surprisingly, conversation flowed easily between the two of you, the both of you finding out that you had many things in common.

From then, everything has just fallen into place, the two of you becoming closer with every year that passes.

In addition to his already hard to control personality, Hoseok has a habit of initiating skin-ship with those he's close to. While you have no issue with the affection, many perceive him to be handsy and avoid the boy all together.

Sucks to be them, you smirk at the thought of their loss, your irritation slipping away from you as Hoseok clears his throat, gaining your attention almost immediately.

"I wanted to talk about our crushes," he croons, shooting you a wink as a groan falls from your lips, this topic always embarrassing to discuss due to your absolute lack of success in this field. He claps his hands together in excitement, sitting himself up abruptly which, in turn, rolls you off his body, a small squeal replacing your long list of complaints.

"Oops, sorry," he sheepishly mumbles, helping you sit up before turning to you with his legs crossed and eyes wide with curiosity and mischievousness, the combination bringing out the vibrancy in his chocolate brown eyes. You cock an eyebrow at him, looking confused as to why he looks so expectant.

"C'mon," he whines childishly, slapping your arm dramatically. "Tell me about Jeon Jungkook!"

You freeze, two bright pink spots making themselves home on your cheeks as your thoughts redirect themselves towards Jungkook. Hoseok snickers behind his hand, finding your reaction adorably amusing. You shoot him a mean glare, unable to help the shy smile that soon brightens up your face and wipes the glare away.

Jeon Jungkook is somewhat of a bad boy and while you hate using generic terms to label people, it's hard to find a more original title that suits him better. He moved from Busan a few years back and, considering the small size of your neighbourhood, he became all that everyone was talking about.

Even the older girls were taking an interest in him.

You, however, didn't catch on until he showed up to your history class a few days later, his smile lazy as he asked you for a pen. In fact, you're pretty sure that from that one class alone, he had managed to get every student wrapped around his finger. A few weeks more of brief discussions with him and you had thrown yourself onto the bandwagon and joined the many other girls who have admitted to liking him.

Then again, how can you not?

Jungkook literally shows up to school looking he's just finished a photo shoot and while many would deem this as vain or attention seeking, you find it endearing and most definitely alluring. His clothes always fit his body, highlighting his muscular figure and small waist. Heck, even if he showed up in fucking sweatpants and a baggy hoodie, he'd still look like a model.

And while his style does add to his appearance, it's not the only thing that has girls swooning.

Jungkook is intimidatingly tall; the boy towering over pretty much every student. His obsidian black hair is always parted down the middle, the long and soft strands framing his face and sharp features perfectly. His eyes are really big and rounded, the shape therefore making it easier to see the pretty dark brown of his iris and the rigid details surrounding the outside of it. His lips have a definite Cupid's bow and his bottom lip is slightly thicker than the top. Jungkook's lips are a rosy pink, making it hard for many to resist the urge to kiss him.

However, Jungkook's actions are what give him the title of bad boy. More often than not, Jungkook will be spotted in the halls, slipping invitations into people's lockers, inviting them to one of his over the top parties. You've only been to one, your main goal being to find Jungkook and perhaps become more familiar with him. Instead, you were left with a chaotic headache and a lack of air due to all the bodies pressed up against another in the small space of Jungkook's home.

As well as the parties, Jungkook has somewhat of a passion for graffiti, his works of so called art decorating several pieces of school property. He's also been known to start many fights with other students, most of them ending with the other person severely injured or scarred for life.

Either way, the whole school knows not to mess with Jeon Jungkook.

You sigh dreamily, snapping out of your daze when you hear Hoseok snort, his hands raised in surrender when you send him another warning glare. He pats your head affectionately and sighs.

"Bella, I seriously think you need to start talking to him if you want this to work," he advises, offering you a hopeful grin. You chuckle, shaking your head in denial of his help. He clicks his tongue in annoyance, his eyebrows knitting together comically.

"Why not? You like him, right? It only makes sense that you at least try and give yourself a chance!" Hoseok exclaims, his lips parted in utter disbelief of your reluctance towards making a move.

"Hoseok-ah, you know it's not that easy. He's not the type of guy that would like a girl like me," you explain with a sigh, allowing your gaze to drift to your sheets. Hoseok smiles fondly at you, hooking his index finger and thumb under your chin, lifting your head up.

"Then make him that type of guy," he softly mumbles, caressing your cheek with the pad of his thumb. You roll your eyes, figuring that you might as well change the subject before you start crying over a boy that wasn't even yours in the first place.

"How's it going between you and April?"

"Don't even get me started on her," he groans, burying his head into his hands as you chuckle at the clear dilemma he has with his high school obsession, April.

Hoseok and April have been friends since the start of high school. Of course, their friendship can't compare to the bond you share with Hoseok but it means that April can put up with what most can't. You knew even before he told you that he'd end up liking her. You can't blame him though. Her short height and endearing personality match well with Hoseok's towering height and exuberant personality.

The two are bound to end up together. The only problem is that Hoseok can't find the courage to ask her out.

"Well, Hoseok, I seriously think you need to start talking to her if you want this to work," you mock, dodging the pillow he lobs at your head, laughter bubbling out of your throat as he soon cracks a small smile.

"We're hopeless, aren't we?" He sighs, grabbing ahold of you to tug you into his side, your arms instinctively wrapping around his waist. Hoseok places his head on top of yours, sighing once more as you roll your eyes.

"Might as well get used to it," you offer lamely, feeling your mood dampen slightly. Hoseok suddenly perks up, pushing you away from him the process. You give him a look of confusion, your eyebrows knitting together as your mouth hangs open slightly.

"I'm about to propose to you a deal, one that will benefit the both of us," he announces, his hand already extended in front of him for you to grab. You glance at his hand before returning your gaze to his face, nodding for him to continue.

"If you help me with April, I'll help you with Jeon."

You grab his hand without hesitation, giving it a firm shake as he exhales in relief, his mind already conjuring up ways that he can help you.

"—he'll have to give you CPR because he'll be the only one that knows how! See, foolproof?" Hoseok finishes, proudly patting himself on the back. You simply stare at him with your mouth agape, shaking your head in complete disbelief at his 20th idea on how to help you with Jungkook.

"Fine," he huffs, folding his arms across his chest as he checks the road before crossing, briefly checking over his shoulder to make sure that you're following. You catch up to him with a laugh, placing your hand onto his shoulder to get him to slow down.

"I'm sorry, it's just I don't think fainting in the hallway is how I'm going to get Jungkook," you apologise, smiling when he turns to you with a pout, his eyes gleaming with mischief. He nods slowly, sighing as the two of you approach the school gates.

"And? How about April? Have you come up with anything?" He asks hopefully, nudging your side as the two of you navigate the school halls. You shake your head with a sigh, relieved when he doesn't even look the slightest bit disappointed.

"We literally suck so bad at this that we can't even help each other," he jokes, leaning against the cool metal of your locker with a laugh. You nod with a laugh of your own, about to say something as your locker opens, a pink envelope falling delicately out of it.

Hoseok quickly picks it up, his laughter increasing in volumes as he rips into it, just missing your eye roll. He reads through it quickly, doubling over in laughter as you catch the culprit pushing himself through the crowd, your head shaking itself in disappointment.

"Jonghyun has really outdone himself this time," Hoseok muses, passing you the letter as he grabs your stuff from your locker for you, awaiting your reaction.

"Until the day I met you, I did not know for sure if I would ever find love so amazing, pure and true. All my doubts were put to rest forever. For me, it's no one but you. I want the best and that's why I love you," you read out, cringing at the note as Hoseok bursts into another fit of laughter.

To make your life just that little bit more unbearable, God sent you Kim Jonghyun. Since the beginning of high school, Jonghyun has followed you around like a lost puppy. At first, you found it flattering and sweet that he cared for you that much but now, it's just creepy. Instead of confessing his love to you in person, he now sends you notes that do nothing but irritate you.

"He's really trying," you sigh, watching as he comes back down the hallway, not-so-discreetly glancing at you as he passes. Hoseok nods, wrapping his arm around your shoulder. You begin to walk to your first class, gaze landing on the doors to the school as they swing open.

You gulp.

Jungkook strolls in casually, his hand in the process of ruffling his hair as he smiles at a few of the girls that pass him. You immediately shake Hoseok's arm off you and watch him, a breathless gasp falling from your lips as the luscious locks of his hair fall gently back down onto his forehead. His eyes scan the faces of all those as he passes, your cheeks reddening as he gets closer to you.

Blessedly, his gaze meets yours, a slight sparkle growing in his eyes as he winks at you with a smirk.

You offer him a shy smile, his sweet vanilla smelling cologne wafting into your face as he passes. Hoseok quickly grabs your arm, his lips parted in disbelief of what just happened while you squeal under your breath.

"Did that just happen?" You breathlessly murmur, turning to Hoseok with a dreamy smile. He nods, hooking his arm with yours as he leads you down the hallway.

"Yes, it did," he grins, plucking out a flyer from a nearby locker, waving it in front of your face.

"And I think I've just come up with the perfect way to get the two of you together."

"Hi, Bella," Jonghyun smiles, sliding into the seat next to you in science. You offer him a wave, going back to your notes as he awkwardly adjusts himself, your thoughts occupied by Hoseok's announcement, the idiot leaving you on a cliffhanger as he promised to tell you later.

"Did you get my note?" He asks quietly, nibbling on his bottom lip as you angle your head to give him a polite but totally fake smile.

"Yeah, I did. Thanks for that, by the way," you chuckle, watching as he slowly nods with a smile of relief. He shuffles closer to you, ruffling his dirty blonde hair with a tight lipped smile.

"I hope that it made you smile, even if you don't return the feelings," he suddenly says, turning back to his work as you look at him with a look of surprise. Jonghyun hums under his breath as you knit your eyebrows together.

"What did you say?" You whisper.

"Bella, I'm not stupid. I know you like Jungkook. I've known for a while now, actually. I just wanted to make sure that you always had something to smile at," he honestly admits, flashing you an adorable smile. Your heart begins to ache a little as you return his smile with a side hug, ruffling his hair affectionately as he chuckles.

"Thank you, Jonghyun," you gratefully coo, allowing him some space to breathe. He flattens his hair down with a fond smile.

"You're always welcome but, just a tip, try talking to him more. He seems to pay a lot more attention to you than what you know."

You furrow your brows together and hit his arm, demanding that he tell you what he's talking about. Jonghyun shakes his head, wincing every time your hand hits his skin.

"Mr. Kim, everything okay there?" Your science teacher says, eyeing the two of you with slight suspicion. Jonghyun nods his head, nudging you with his shoulder.

"Yeah, just fine."

"Get ready, baby! We're going out to a party," Hoseok yells, bursting into your room with a grin. You jump in your spot, holding a hand against your chest as a scream falls from your lips. You give yourself a minute to catch your breath and allow your gaze to roam over his new attire.

No wonder he took so long in the bathroom.

He dons some ripped jeans and a loose sweater, the look both casual and most definitely attractive on his figure. He wears a baseball cap and a pair of red converses, his smile bright and charming. You sit yourself up with a sigh, rubbing your temples.

"What party?" You question curiously, dreading the next sentence that could come out of his mouth.

"Why, Jungkook's, of course," he croons, helping you stand as he leads you to your cupboard. You fold your arms across your chest with a sigh, barely having the energy to protest against him choosing your clothes.

Then it sinks in.

"Jungkook's party! Why? What? Explain yourself!" You screech, slapping him in the chest several times, ignoring his whines of complaint. He manages to defend himself from you and holds up a hanger in self defence.

"It's my plan! I have a plan, please don't hit me," he whimpers, jabbing his hanger into your chest. You roll your eyes and flick your wrist out to get him to continue.

"Okay so, we're going to his party. Both April and Jungkook are going to be there. I'll hang off you for a while before we split up. You go to April, I'll go to Jungkook. From there, we'll talk each other up and then we come back together and wait," he explains with a lopsided smile, his eyes clouding over as he imagines how everything will play out in his head.

"That...doesn't sound so bad," you reluctantly admit, catching the few pairs of clothes that he throws at you with a grunt. He finishes in your cupboard with a grin, turning himself around as he orders you to get changed.

Soon enough, you're sitting in Hoseok's car, stressing over what could possibly happen at Jungkook's party. Hoseok does his best to calm you down, his hand rubbing circles on your thigh as you dramatically hyperventilate.

"We're here," Hoseok sighs, pulling up to Jungkook's house, looking over at you with worry. "Will you be okay? We can go home if not."

"No," you mumble. "I'll be fine. We need to do this."

The party is already in full swing, several people laughing drunkenly outside on the porch. You squeeze past them, instinctively gripping onto Hoseok's hand. He silently leads you through the house, occasionally looking back to check on you until the two of you reach the kitchen. You puff out your cheeks as you accept the cup of Coke Hoseok slides towards you, gratefully taking a few sips.

He comes around the counter and wraps his arm around your waist, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. You find yourself leaning into his chest, glancing around the room for either Jungkook
or April. You search the dark corners to the best of your ability, your gaze lingering on a shadow of a man.

"Hoseok," you whisper, motioning towards the corner. "Is that Jungkook?"

Hoseok looks over towards the corner, noticing the way that Jungkook narrows his eyes and takes a long sip of his drink, eyeing Hoseok's hand around your waist. "Bingo."

You feel Hoseok leave your side, only hearing him tell you to find April as he pushes through the crowd. Muttering to yourself, you bop your head along to the beat and choose to just wait in the kitchen, knowing that April would want a drink.

True to your assumption, she comes bouncing in, singing along to one of the songs playing in the background. She squeals upon sight of you, wrapping her arms around your middle as she hugs you.

"Is Hoseok with you?" She asks quickly, adjusting her dress as she looks around the kitchen in worry. You nod your head but point behind you to where Hoseok animatedly chats with Jungkook. She sighs in relief and grabs herself a cup.

"Say, April, what do you think of Hoseok?"

She pauses mid sip and swallows, lowering her cup. "What do you mean?"

"Like, how do you feel about him?"

She hums thoughtfully, sighing dreamily as she sends you a warm smile. "I think he's pretty cute. Lovely to be around. Just between us, I'd love for us to be more than just friends."

She's definitely had a few drinks. She'd never be this open.

"Well, thanks for that," you chirp, blowing her an air kiss as you jog off to meet Hoseok on the dance floor. He pulls you to the side, grinning from ear to ear.

"Jungkook said he wants to get to know you more."

"April said she thinks she likes you."

You both high five and head back out, immediately spotting both of your targets smiling and waving you over. Discreetly sending each other a thumbs up, you head off to your crushes.

"Hey," you mumble as you approach Jungkook, finding it adorable when he waves at you with a tipsy grin. He pulls you in for a hug, burying his face into your neck.

"Hi," he returns, pulling away to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. "Sorry for being so touchy. I think the alcohol is messing with my inhibitions."

"That's alright," you chuckle, shuffling yourself towards him, finding yourself craving more of his warmth. He smiles approvingly, his eyes glimmering in the light. "As long as you're sober enough to remember this tomorrow."

"How could I ever forget you?" He murmurs, lowering his head down enough so that his breath fans your upper lip. Your eyes flutter shut as his hands wander the sides of your body before ultimately stopping at your hips. You hum in satisfaction, cocking your head towards the dance floor.

He nods with a wide grin, leading you to the dance floor with his hand tightly holding yours. You look to your side to see Hoseok and April laughing about something as he, too, takes her towards the dance floor, meeting your eye with a wink.

Chuckling, you focus your attention back onto Jungkook, savouring every second of his touch as the night fades away into early morning light.

As for Jonghyun, the young boy landed himself a date just a few hours after his chat with you earlier that day when he had accidentally shoved his letter into someone else's locker instead of yours.

In the end, it turns out that everyone got what they wanted and your great big mess unexpectedly turned out to be quite helpful in proving that maybe you and Hoseok aren't as hopeless as you may seem.
