LOST

- in which you storm out after an argument with jungkook and end up getting lost in the middle of the night, desperate for him to come and find you.

"You're unbelievable," you sigh, pinching the bridge of your nose as you feel your head begin to throb, the stress of your current situation getting to you. Jungkook scoffs at your comment, placing his hands on his hips in a way that sends off waves of attitude in your direction.

"I'm unbelievable?" He questions mockingly, his tone of voice indicating that it may be you who is being unbelievable and hard to handle, your hand falling from your face to clench into a tight fist by your side.

A hot bolt of anger jolts through you, your nails breaking through skin as you feel yourself getting pushed over the line that you hoped Jungkook could clearly see. Judging by the way he glares at you as if daring you to speak back to him, you can easily tell that Jungkook isn't intending on playing it safe with today's argument.

Well, neither are you.

"Yes, you are," you shout, remaining still in your spot as he flinches at your sudden outburst, eyes widening accusingly. "I have paid the fucking rent every week since we moved in here! You haven't even bothered to at least offer to pay for a week! Not. A. Single. Week."

He gulps, features softening ever so slightly before hardening back up again, his need to win absolutely everything—including the rare arguments in between the two of you—taking over. Straightening his posture, he calmly nods to your complaints, the look in his eyes very much like the visual epitome of the calm before a storm.

"I'm sorry then. I'll try my best to pay for the next few weeks but you know money is tight down at the flower shop. Just stop stressing so much over it and I'll work on it," he logically reasons, his voice gentle in a way that almost has you giving into his apology.

But the anger in you needs to be taken out on something and unfortunately for Jungkook, it's going to have to be him.

"If I don't stress out about it, they'll kick us out," You exclaim, throwing your hands up in exasperation as you begin to pace the length of the living room, your hands shaking from the amount of rage-induced energy you have coursing rapidly through you.

"Now you're just overthinking things, like you always do," he sighs, running a hand frustratedly through his already disheveled hair, his entire body language screaming at you to just drop it and forgive him; it being very clear that he's fed up with the discussion. "Maybe it was a mistake moving in together."

You want to say something back—something clever in a way that stumps him—but his words have hurt you in a way that renders you speechless.

In fact, it was his idea to move in together. You were originally sceptical about the idea, unsure as to whether or not the two of you were ready for a big step like that especially when things were going so well with your relationship. He had reassured you, his devilish way with words convincing you to agree to his plan and rent an apartment with him for you two to share.

Even after agreeing with it, you were still scared of him getting fed up with you and leaving. Now, it seems as if your worst fears are coming true, your thoughts already beginning to cloud over with heartbreaking scenarios of him leaving you.

A single tear rolls down your cheeks, creating a chain reaction as more follow, your tears making wet streaks down your skin.

Jungkook's eyes widen in alarm, his lips parting in uncertainty as he inches towards you, desperate to pull you into a hug and apologise for hurting you. However, his hands fall limp when you take a shaky step away from him, trying to hide the sound of your sobs behind your hand.

So he simply stands with his head lowered as your muffled sobs shame him to tears, the feel of them forming burning his eyes in a way that he knows he deserves.

"I think I'll go," you finally choke out, looking away when he immediately flicks his gaze up to yours in denial and disapproval. Shaking his head, Jungkook goes to grab onto you, this time wanting to just hold onto you as tightly as he can to stop you from leaving whether you like or not.

Once again, you shy away, his fingers just brushing the top of your forearm.

"It's what you want," you mumble, rushing to the front door as he jogs after you, calling your name out over and over again as if it will miraculously change your mind despite knowing that his attempts will fall short of the desired goal.

Trembling, you wrap your fingers around the handle of the door and swing it open, making sure that it slams shut behind you before Jungkook can grab onto you again.

Sniffling, you stumble down the stairs and out of the apartment building, hating how the harsh night winds outside hurt less than the way your heart does.

*

It's a shame how you had hope that he'd come running after you.

The bitter disappointment and resentment you have towards him makes your determination to stay away from him stronger, your arms folded across your chest angrily in a way that clearly shows your rage and manages to keep your bare arms the slightest bit warm.

However, you find your stomach twisting with guilt and regret, knowing very well that if you would've just taken a deep breath to clear your thoughts, you wouldn't be out here aimlessly wandering around to try and prove a point.

There's no point in denying it; you overreacted.

Although, it's not like he doesn't deserve to feel hurt either. His words hit a nerve that had you feeling insecure and ultimately doubting all that you've done in a relationship that you've worked so hard to maintain.

Grumbling under your breath at the ridiculousness of it all, you wrap your arms around your trembling figure, gritting your teeth together as a harsh blow of icy cold wind brings a wave of shivers and goosebumps to life, tears springing from the corner of your eyes.

"This is more t-torturous for me than it is f-for him," you scoff, teeth chattering as you halt your slow movements to look behind you.

Perhaps he's suffered enough for me to go back, you wonder, envisioning him pacing in front of the door as he debates on trying to find you or allowing you to clear your head alone, the worry in him so strong that it makes his stomach churn and his head throb.

Another strong gust of wind hits your body, a soft gasp falling from your numb lips as you're thrown off your balance and sent stumbling back a little. Quickly nodding in agreement to your own idea, you begin to walk back in the opposite direction, furrowing your brows together at you attempt to recall walking past certain stores lined up in front of you.

Hold on, where am I?

The question has your eyes widening in fear and your stomach churning with a dread so strong that you clutch onto your stomach in a fruitless attempt to stop it. The dimly lit street lights do little to help you as you squint up at a nearby street sign, cursing under your breath when you can barely even make out the large letters printed upon the reflective surface.

You feel your breathing getting heavier as you come to the conclusion that you are completely lost. It comes a quite a shock to you that this is the first time you've ever really been lost, Jungkook's natural sense of direction putting you at ease whenever you're out with him.

Only, he isn't here now.

Fear crawls at a sickeningly slow pace up your spine, your gaze frantic as your eyes flick from the street signs that seem to loom intimidatingly over you to the buildings that appear to be closing in on you, your hand trembling violently as you palm your phone, almost dropping it on the cold concrete that feels like it's miles away from where you stand.

You don't even bother considering the fact that you're still mad at Jungkook or the fact that he could possibly not want to talk to you as you tap on his contact multiple times, barely able to see the screen through your hazy vision as you press the cool screen to your cheek, begging for him to pick up under your breath.

"Hello? Y/N?"

His voice cuts through all the dark fear that threatened to pull you into a state of sheer panic, a heavy weight lifting off your shoulders as you begin to sob in relief. Immediately following the sound of your cries comes his questions filled with heart warming concern and worry, each word thick with emotion.

"Jungkook," you choke out, trying to catch your breath in order to explain your situation to him. He mutters sweet nothings into the speaker, reminding you that he's on the line and that you can tell him what's going on. Taking a deep breath, you start again.

"I t-think I'm lost. It's so c-cold and d-dark and I don't know w-where I am. P-please, I'm so s-scared," you ramble, unaware of how fast you're speaking until he cuts you off.

"Woah, calm down, sweetheart," he coaxes, the jingling in the background registering in your mind as the house keys. He's coming to get me. "Just take a deep breath and help me out here so I can find you. Is there any big shop you can see?"

Following his advice, you allow your eyes to flutter shut and relish in the feel of the crisp air inflating your lungs before leaving a sense of calm in its wake. You quickly open your eyes to scan the streets, immediately spotting a gas station a few meters ahead; feeling foolish that you hadn't noticed it before.

"There's a gas station in front of me but that's all I can see," you mumble, hearing the door slam shut as he hums in approval.

"Stay where you are, okay? I'll be there soon."

He hangs up before you can voice out your agreement, the warmth blossoming in you fleeting away along with the security his voice had wrapped around you. Assuring yourself that it won't be long before he arrives, you focus on how you're going to apologise to him, the thought momentarily taking your mind off of being alone on a dodgy looking street at an ungodly hour.

The sound of puffing and heavy footsteps pulls you out of your saddening thoughts, your whole system on full alert as you face the source of the noise with wide eyes. Jungkook stares back at you; his chest rising and falling as if he'd just finished working out and hair wild as if he had gone through a forest.

Oh, you realise, he ran all the way here.

You wordlessly jog towards him, throwing yourself into his chest as your arms wrap tightly around his middle, body shaking in relief as he places a jacket, one that you didn't even realise he was holding, over your shoulders. The jacket itself is larger than any you own and definitely doesn't smell like your perfume; the scent more homely than the floral scent you're used to.

Your heart warms as you come to yet another realisation; the jacket is his.

He presses one of his hands against your back, the other sifting through your hair as he kisses the top of your head tenderly before allowing his chin to rest on top of it.

"Don't ever walk out like that again," he scolds gently. "Especially not at an hour like this. Anything could've happened."

"I know," you whisper, clutching onto the material of his sweater in guilt. "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay," he whispers back, pressing yet another kiss to your head. "It was unfair of me to say what I did so I'm sorry too."

Humming, you lift your head to look at him with a small smile. He chuckles quietly and taps your nose with his finger, pulling away only to tuck you into his side as he begins to walk the two of you home.

You silently thank Jungkook for not bringing more of the argument up, knowing very well that you probably would've burst into tears if he did.

While it still hangs in the air like a loose thread, you know that you and Jungkook will get through it, like you always do.
