PRESENT, SEATTLE

"Mr. and Mrs. Gibson, I'm Dr. Montgomery-Shepherd. I'll be covering for Doctor Pollack."
I slid my hands into my blue scrubs while standing next to Addison in Mrs. Gibson's hospital room. "Mrs. Gibson had a pre-term premature rupture of her membranes at 28 weeks."
"She's confined to supervised bed rest for 7 weeks and has a low-grade fever." Cristina continued.
Mrs. Gibson groaned. "Can't you just schedule a C? Believe me, I'm ready to have this baby."
"Hey, you and me both." Mr. Gibson chuckled briefly, looking at his wife.
I exchanged a glance with Meredith.ย
"I want to get your blood work back before we make any further decisions," Addison explained.
"I have to pee. Again." Mrs. Gibson groaned.
She sat up, grabbing her husband's hand as he helped her out of bed.
"Come on, here we go." Mr. Gibson said as an afterthought, staring intensely at Addison. "I appreciate you taking over my wife's case; uh, uh, Dr. Pollack says you're the best."
Addison smiled. "Oh, it's my pleasure, Mr. Gibson."
"He didn't mention that ahโwow, you bear a striking resemblance to a young Catherine Deneuve." Mr. Gibson told her. Addison stared at him in surprise. "Oh, you've, you've never heard that before?"
I raised my brows and led towards Meredith. "Is he hitting on her with his wife in the bathroom?"
"I think so," Meredith mumbled.
"Uh, eh, no. Sorry, I have to say it's a first." Addison stammered, looking uncomfortable.
"Been told I look like Halle Berry," Bailey mumbled beside me.
I bit my lip and laughed at my resident holding her baby to her chest.
"Ah, beautiful. Beautiful. Well, Miss Deneuve." Mr. Gibson smiled. Addison's pager beeped, and she clicked it off, trying to avoid Mr. Gibson's gaze. "Of course, you are too, but by extension."
Addison cleared her throat, and I could tell that Mr. Gibson was making a little uncomfortable with his flattery. " Right, we'll be back up later to check on your wife."
I watched my brother's wife rush out of the room and follow Bailey and my friends as Mr. Gibson said, "Look forward to it!"
I walked behind Bailey as her pager went off, and her baby, Tuck, cried.
"So when is Mark coming back," Meredith asked me.
I opened my mouth when George stammered, "MโMark?"
I looked at him. "If you were there when I told Meredith and everyone else, you would have known."
George turned and looked at his feet.
"I think he's ignoring me now," I muttered to Meredith.
"Welcome to the club," Meredith sighed.
"Uh, ER needs a consult." Bailey grimaced, trying to soothe Tuck against her chest.
"Uh, O'Malley, Grey, why don't you go and take that?" Addison suggested trying to help Bailey soothe her baby.
"What about Mrs. Gibson?" Meredith asked beside me.
Addison frowned. "I'll take care of Mrs. Gibson."
Meredith turned when George wondered, "Uh, they really need both of us?"
"I'll guess you'll find out," Addison said, holding Tuck in her arms. "Go!"
I sighed, grabbed Tuck from Addison's hands, and pulled him against my chest. I rubbed his back, soothing his cries as they quieted and grew softer.
"How did you do that?" Bailey gaped.
"She's a baby whisper," Addison told her. "Why do you think I always have her on my service? Babies love her."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not babysitting. Some babies don't like sitting still."
"You brought your baby to work?" The Chief called out, stopping in front of me.
"Uh, yes, Chief," Bailey said, looking at her son in my arms.
"You're not going to take him into surgery with you?" The Chief questioned, his arms crossed.
Bailey turned back to the Chief, distracted as Tuck cooed in my arms. "Uh, uh, I don't have anything scheduled for today."
"Yet," The Chief explained with a pointed look.
"OK, I can't solve a problem until there's a problem to solve. Are you saying there's a problem?" Bailey asked.
I looked at the Chief while Addison added. "Yeah, is there a problem, Richard?"
He frowned. "No,"
I turned to Bailey and placed Tuck back in her arms. "I need to check on Addie's patients who are in pre-OP." I walked away from them, and Tuck cried. "Rock him!"
"Miranda, she can't babysit your baby the whole day." Addison's voice carried.

"Mark, really, Rae,"
I wrote on my patient's cart before handing it to the nurse behind the desk. "Derek, do you really want to talk about Mark?"
"Yes," Derek said. I peeked at him. He frowned. "No. Maybe?"
I fully turned to him. "If you're worried about him showing up, he's back in New York." Derek relaxed. "We're doing the long-distance thing, and before you ask, no, I'm not going to break up with him because you asked." I pointed behind me. "Now go get your juju from your wife."
Derek grumbled, turning to Addison beside me. "You jujued Meredith."
"I did. In the spirit of friendship." Addison explained, crossing her arms.
"Hmm." Derek raised a brow.
"What?" Addison asked. I turned to them as Addison raised a brow. "Are we not being friends with Meredith anymore?"
Derek took a sip of his cocoa. "No, no, we are. Meredith and I are friends."
"And you and I are married." Addison began dropping her arms. "So then, by proxy, Meredith and I are friends."
"That's very big of you," Derek said.
"Yeah." Addison smiled.
"You don't have to do that." Derek smiled. "It's not like I'm gonna be friends with, let's say, uh...Mark."
My brother's burning gaze met my cold one. "Real classy, Derek."
Addison held out the cup of cocoa, and I grabbed it as Derek walked away.
"It'll take some time," Addison told me. "But he'll come around."
I sighed. "I hope so."
I took a sip of the cocoa and struggled to swallow it as a wave of nausea overcame me. I gulped it down as I shoved the cup into her hands. "Bathroom."
She threw the cocoa in the trash and grabbed my arm, pulling me into the attending lounge before locking the door. I rushed vomiting into the toilet, clinching the cool sides of it.
I pulled back after I emptied my stomach, resting my forehead against my arm.
"Have you told Mark yet?" Addison asked.
I groaned, not wanting to think about my sort of boyfriend. "No,"
"He needs to know," Addison pushed. "Mark cares about you."
She squeezed my shoulder before leaving the bathroom.
I hope you're right, Addie.

I frowned, looking up at the ceiling as rain plummeted against the window.
"I slept with George,"
I turned my head, looking at Meredith as I lay in her bed. "I know."
She furrowed her brows, looking at me. "How did you know?"
"He stopped talking to you," I pointed out. "Also, Cristina told me."
Meredith sighed. "Derek told me to apologize." I looked at her and waited. "I did. But I don't know if he'll ever forget me. Even after Alex yelled at him today."
"Maybe," I started. "He just needs time. I don't know if you know this, Mere, but George is in love with you."
She slid down until she was looking at the ceiling. "I didn't want to hurt his feelings."
"Yeah, but you did, Mere," I revealed. I shifted, curling my arm under my head. "George's not like us, which is fine. He's kinda normal in the way he doesn't have trauma in his past to make him closed off like we are."
"I just want my best friend back." Meredith frowned.
"You will." I nodded. I believed that George would forgive her in his own time when he realized that he was over her. "He just needs time."
"So, are you going to tell me what's going on with you?" Meredith asked as I felt her burning gaze on me. "Is it Mark?"
I lifted my shoulder. "Yes and no." Her brows lifted, and I knew she would get it from me. "I was going to wait till Cristina got here."
"I'm here."
I lifted my head as Cristina pulled off her brown leather jacket and climbed into the bed. I shifted towards Meredith as Cristina lay down on my other side.
"I couldn't handle George and Burke." Cristina defended as I stared at her. "Enough about me. What do you have to tell us."
I looked at Meredith's ceiling and sighed. "I'm pregnant."
"Shit," Cristina breathed.
"Does Mark know?" Meredith asked.
I shook my head. "No."
"You know Derek's going to kill him for real this time," Cristina said.
I closed my eyes and let my thoughts race as silence overtook the room.
I don't know what to do.ย
