063: FACETIME
"Puppy!" The girl smiles
as an image of a jumping
golden ball of fur appears
on her phone screen the
second the call connects.
"He's not so much of a
puppy anymore!" The boy
laughs as his pet's paws
land on his stomach, balancing
himself on his hind legs in
attempt to smell what was ever
on Lucas' fingers last, which
would have been his dinner.
"He's so sweet."
"He's a very good boy,"
Lucas proclaimed, quickly
calming the excited dog by
scratching the top of his
head, right behind his ears.
"I thought that he might
help put a smile on your
beautiful face."
"Well, I think it's safe
to say that he most
definitely has."
The boy sighs, Maya still
unable to see his face as
he hasn't flipped the camera
around yet. "I'm sorry."
Maya shakes her head
and watches as the dog
walks back to his food
dish. "Stop apologizing!
The weather is beyond
your control!"
"I just feel like I shouldn't
have ever promised you
anything."
"You never did! It's
okay, Lucas. We have
the rest of our lives to
meet each other."
"Yeah, I guess. But
Christmas is special,
you know?"
"Which is exactly why
you should be spending
it with your family at
home and not with me."
"I just wanted to see you."
"I wanted to see you too."
"Okay, we seriously gotta
stop mentioning it." Lucas
yawns, growing tired as it
was getting late, but
thankfully, none of the
teenagers need to get up
bright and early in the morning
as it is their first day of winter
vacation for the holidays.
"Yes, we do." Maya replies,
yawning also and continuing
to wish that a miracle would
happen and Lucas could
suddenly make it to New York
on time.
"Let's see what Zay is up to."
Lucas makes his way into his
living room, sitting down on
a sofa right next to Zay, who
immediately leans over to see
the blonde beauty herself.
"Zay!"
"Hey, Maya!"
The boy smiles quickly before drawing his attention back to the video game that he was playing.
"How are you?"
"Good, thanks.
I'm sorry we couldn't
make it out."
"Don't blame yourself.
It's the storm's fault."
"Shit, man." Lucas says
as he yawns again. "I'm
gonna have to go to sleep
soon, I'm tired as hell."
"Probably because you
were up all night."
"Why were you up all
night?" Maya questions,
already sure of the answer.
"He couldn't stop-"
"-Thinking of you." Lucas
finished, feeling utterly exhausted
and just wanting to lay down with
his girl and fall asleep in her arms.
"Oh, Sweetheart." Maya,
pouted, wishing that she
could jump into her phone
screen and hug and hold
the living daylights out
of that boy. "You need
sleep, and so do I."
"But I don't want to stop
talking to you yet."
"I don't want to either."
"Your friends are going to
want you back, though."
"Yeah, eventually, but I
might go home early.
I don't know, but I'll
text you all night if
you want me to."
"You should stay and
have fun, and I will too."
"You're pretty damn
amazing, Just Friar."
"I love you, Maya."
Zay, who has been completely unaware that Lucas has been telling Maya that he loves her countless times over the past few weeks, sits up straight and his eyes open wide.
"Oh my god, this is adorable."
"You're alright." The blonde
laughs, her cheeks burning
up from smiling so much.
"Goodnight, Beautiful."
The boy smiles back,
brighter than ever despite
the lack of sleep in his eyes.
"Goodnight, Maya!"
"Goodnight, boys."
BrokenHarts ended the call
