CHAPTER NINE ✧･ﾟ

THE WIND BLEW THROUGH THE TREES OF THE FOREST IN THE LAND FAR AWAY FROM DISTRICT 12 SOFTLY, the covey and the Snow brothers walking down the hills to get to where the lake was hidden away from everyone, that seemed to take for ages from how massive the land was.

It didn't take them long to arrive in the shaded forest away from the town. (Y/N) was in a shirt and skirt again from the same one was yesterday, walking along side Lucy Gray who swinged their hands around together, and nudged her when she saw what was happening in front of them.

Her (E/C) eyes glanced up quickly making her braid fall over her shoulder, a small snort leaving her watching Cassian smack a bug on his arm that was annoying him, and ducked when a tress brunch almost hit him in the face.

"Go to him." She heard Lucy Gray whisper gently in encouragement, hands slipping from each others as Lucy Gray smiled knowingly pushing her sister up front, "I'll walk with Coriolanus, don't worry."

She was a bit unsure of this not wanting to leave Lucy Gray with the other blonde, but seeing his warm smile across his face was enough reassurance for now. She left those two behind, and walked up to Cassian to approach his side.

He was carrying a small bag over his shoulder that actually had her stuff inside with his, and her towel under his left arm that he wanted to hold also. His grumpy expression changes when he sees her walking next to him, and flashed a charming grin.

"Hello there, beautiful." He greeted in a funny voice, accent coming out thicker that had her chuckling as he grabs her hand in his, and twirls her around making her giggle now.

She landed with her palms against his muscular chest, walking backwards now while he walked normally directing her a bit. Even with the things he was holding, he still managed to bend down a press a swift kiss to her lips, causing her to chase them when he pulled back to early.

"Wha- That wasn't even a kiss!" She protested huffing out when he span her back around to walk beside him, and she glared up at him halfheartedly not liking how he was playing around.

He shrugged with a teasing smirk cove his mouth, throwing an arm over her shoulders to pull her flushed against his side, their walking picking up when the lake came into view, as Cassian heard his brother and Lucy Gray talking behind them.

"What I want and plan to do to you isn't for other eyes to see, darling. Only mine should." He bent his head so he could whisper lowly into her ear, brushing his lips against her lobe as he chuckled amused feeling her tense up at his words and touch.

She flushed not knowing what to say, her eyes peeking up at him to see his face looking smug staring straight ahead, and run his ringed hand up and down her side slowly to tease her further making her grumble annoyed.

When they finally arrived at the massive lake where the bright sun was beaming down, Maude Ivory was the first to strip off her clothes leaving on her undergarments, before jumping off the dock and into the water. Everyone else followed on after her, expect for (Y/N) and Cassian who lingered on the side.

She set her bag down that she took from him next to Lucy Gray's, and slipped off her clothes to toss them next to her bag. In the middle of this, she looked at Cassian with a bright smile seeing him already staring at her fondly, standing a bit behind her from the take.

Once she was in her crop top and short pants underneath her main clothing, she began walking backwards on the dock raising an eyebrow at him, and lifted a finger to beckon him to come closer, before turning the other way to walk ahead.

Cassian was already taking off his clothes also leaving him with his abs exposed, and had his shorts on also, as his dog tag and ring were more visible now. He began to chase after the girl, who squealed in surprise when he suddenly picked up by the waist, and carried in a bridal style position.

Her eyes shut closed knowing what was about to happen, hiding her face in the crook of his neck as she wrapped her arms around his neck, while his were under her thighs and just under her shoulders to hold her against his chest.

"Better hold on, sweetheart." He warned in a chuckle into her ear, heart fluttering hearing her giggle and adjusting her so he wouldn't drop her mid fall, before jumping off the dock and into the freezing cold water.

Their hold on each other did slip when they slammed into the water, but under the water his hands found her face to cup it gently making her smile widely at him, and nuzzle their noses together, staying like that until they needed to come up for air.

She swam to the surface, her head making free from the water first with a big exhale of air. Her hair had fallen out from the braid now, as it framed all over her wet face. She yelped a bit startled feeling hands grip onto her thighs in the water, and quickly turned around.

Her anxiety relaxed realising it was only Cassian, being meet with his mischievously grinning face above the water, before he fully broke the surface still holding onto her, her back touching his muscular, wet chest.

His blonde curls were all over the place from the water, and he flicked his head back to move them off his forehead. He snickered a bit when she scolded him for scaring her, and splashed some water on him, that had him playfully threatening to drop in the water as he was holding her up.

She felt his warm hands despite the water being chilly squeeze her waist being held up by him, and swam a bit in front of him, as her hand was holding his to not separate them, their fingers intertwined together.

"You're really a menace sometimes, Cass." She commented rolling her eyes playfully when he faked gasped offended, and smacked the water to send some of it splashing onto her, as he mimics her voice in a funny tone.

She grumbled feeling the coldness over her skin, feeling like a cat in the water, but smiled to herself when he turned around to face his back to her, his hand still not leaving his that connected them.

Letting go of his hand for a second her eyes found Lucy Gray and Coryo near the docks in the water hugging each other, and smiled once more at the sight. Turning back around, she swam closer to Cassian and pressed herself onto his back.

Her legs wrapped around his torso, and one of her arms went around his neck area, while the other slipped around his shoulders. She pressed the side of her head against his feeling him relax into her, and they stayed like that, watching the others enjoy themselves in the water.

"I told you we could be free here." She eventually spoke up in a soft voice, playing with his blonde locks a bit before resting her chin on his shoulder and fiddled with the dog chain next, "Do you like it here, Cass?"

He hummed in reply for a second staring ahead into the distance, before sliding his hand up over hers on his neck, "Anywhere with you I like." He whispered softly making her heart flutter, as he press a warm kiss onto the back of her hand, "Doesn't matter where as long as you're with me. But yes, I do in fact love it here."

"I knew you would." She mumbled in a sing song voice trying to calm her fast beating heart, and hid her face against the back of his neck for a few seconds, not wanting him to see how flustered she was. But sadly, he already knew.

Cassian moved himself around to grab onto her thighs around his waist to keep her attached to him, and faced her wide eyed face. He smiled at her lovingly pulling her closer to him so their chests were flushed together, and leant down to press his forehead onto hers, the tip of their noses touching.

He release a breathy sigh that hit her already warm cheeks, as his blue eyes fluttered open to stare into her doe ones, "You're my salvation, (Y/N)." He confessed in a whisper, trailing one hand up from her thigh to the back of her neck, keeping her in place to not shy away from his hold or words.

Her throat dries as he looks at her with an indeterminate amount of affection, the water no longer bothering her. Her bottom lip trembles a bit from emotion, and pressed her nose more into his, their eyelashes brushing one another's from how close they were.

"I owe you everything, Cassian." She voiced in a whisper also looking into his passionate gaze that was only for her, legs becoming tighter around his waist as she fiddles with his lock at the back of his neck, "Me nor Lucy Gray wouldn't be here without you."

He shakes his head rapidly making their noses nuzzle together, as she giggled a bit at it warming his heart more, "I would of done it either way, darling." He rasped full of emotions, taking a moment to admire her features so close to him, and his heart jumped more in result.

He hovered his lips over hers making their breathes mingle, "You are so beautiful." He breathed out brushing his lips against hers, and closed his eyes shut now, just as she followed having a feeling she knew what was coming.

Her butterflies spiked up even more when he pressed his lips down to hers, and she hummed against his mouth moving hers with his. The feeling of his tongue trying to work its way into her mouth, caused a warm feeling to stir in her lower stomach, and clutches onto him tighter, forgetting they were even in the water.

One of his large hands framed her face to pull her harder onto his lips, keeping her in between his legs under the water as their heads tilt to the side to make the kiss deeper, all while the others around them were oblivious and playing in the lake leaving the lovers to their business.

A FEW HOURS LATER AFTER THE GROUP FINISHED OFF THEIR SWIMMING THEY WERE ALL OUT OF THE LAKE, (Y/N) being sat on the ground with her sister and Maude inside the woods under the nice shade, back to being dressed in their clothes.

The (H/C) haired girl had a mocking jay bird perched on her shoulder, and a snake slithering around her wrist, similar to Lucy Gray beside her who only had a snake. She hummed softly, a smile on her face as she admired both animals with her, using her free hand to gently pat the bird who chirped back happily fluffing his feathers.

The bird would sometimes gently nip at her skin for attention, or would nestle into her locks flowing along her shoulders, fining her company peaceful in the woods. The snake also was close to sleeping in her grasp, but continued to move around a little bit, its blue scales shinning under the sunlight.

Maude was hovering with the two sisters also wanting to touch the animals, but the mocking jay didn't liked to be touched, so she left him alone and brushed her fingers along the snake Lucy Gray had instead.

Feeling eyes staring at her from the side, (Y/N) looked up from handing the snake to her sister while the bird flew up into the trees, but not before one last pat. She met the blue eyes of Cassian, who was laying back a bit on a mat dressed in his clothes again, and propped himself with one elbow.

Lucy Gray spotted where her sister was looking at, and also saw who she was eyeing off, making her smile knowingly already had her talk with Coryo. And so, she nudged her sisters arm gently, "Go to him. It's alright." She reassured nodding her head at Cassian's direction, chuckling.

The girl bite her bottom lip a bit unsure but once she saw her sisters wink, she stood up quickly brushing over her skirt and made her over to Cassian. He grinned at her as she came up to the blanket, and made herself conformable on it, laying her head on his chest and stomach area.

He turned on his side a bit using his elbow to prop them both up, slipping his fingers in between hers that were being held up in the air by her elbow, while his other hand was grazing along her exposed shoulders. They sat there in silence taking in the peaceful environment, until she broke it by singing something.

"I know you, I walked with you once
upon a dream I know you, that look in your
eyes is so familiar a gleam
And I know it's true that visions are
seldom all they seem."

Her voice rang out through the air like chimes in his ears, as he listened to every words that flew out from her mouth, a warm smile on his face staring down at her in awe, heart fluttering rapidly inside his chest.

"But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once, the way you
did once upon a dream."

Once she finished he bent down to press his lip onto her forehead making her flush embarrassed, and felt his nose nuzzle into her hair, "That was beautiful." He praised pulling back to stare down at her on his chest, and winked flirtatiously, "Not as beautiful as you though."

She rolled her eyes playfully squeezing his fingers in between hers backwards, and pushes her face into his chest to hide it for a few seconds, feeling his fast heart beat under her ear, "You charmer." Her grumble was muffled by his body, as he chuckled fondly running a hand through her locks for a moment.

Hearing whistling above from her song before, Cassian looked up from his girl and saw the same birds he saw on her shoulder on reaping day flying around above them in the trees, "These are the same birds, aren't they? From the day we first met?"

(Y/N) hummed a bit tapping her boot on the grass near the edge of the mat, and slipped up more to lay on his chest sideways also, "Yes, they are." She answered smiling watching the birds also, "We call them Mockingjays. One of the best birds that live around here."

He ran his thumb along the side of her hand in his, and moved his blue eyes back down to her eagerly, "So, mind telling me where you learnt that song?" He asked gaining her eyes on him also, "It's the first time I've heard it."

"I use to sing it to the children back in 12 when they couldn't sleep." She tells him smiling softly, tilting her head back up on his stomach to meet his bright gaze, fiddling with his ring on his thumb in her fingers, "I don't remember where I learnt it, if I'm being honest. It just always came to my mind when singing."

He smiled gently hearing her answer, before carefully reaching out to his bag to pull something out without bumping her, "I bought you something, love." He speaks pulling out a small black velvet box, that had her eyes going wide wondering what was inside of it.

Her hand slipped from his for a second so he could hold the box, but his other was still brushing along her bare arm, "It was my mothers. I'd like for you to have it." He insisted softly handing the box to her, as she grabbed it in between her palms.

His nod was a silent assurance, a signal that it was alright to open the box. She swallowed nervously, her fingers delicately prying the box open, as she sat up a bit more resting on his chest.

The hinges yielded, revealing a breathtaking sight that stole her breath away. Nestled on a small velvet pillow was a mesmerizing ring—a fusion of gold and red, adorned with intricate patterns and a sprinkle of small diamonds that caught the dappled sunlight.

Her breath hitched in her throat, and her eyes glistened with unshed tears at the sheer beauty of the gift. Cassian, his gaze locked onto hers with unwavering intensity, took the box and the ring in his hands. The exchange of glances felt like a silent conversation, a profound understanding passing between them.

As he gently slipped the ring onto her fourth finger, their connection deepened. Once he did that he slipped his fingers in between hers, making her (E/C) eyes catch onto the ring he placed onto the same finger as her, and brought up her hand to his mouth.

"You trying to marry me, Winter Snow?" She mused softly using his other nickname that Coryo told her about, watching how his shoulders tense at that, before a fond chuckle escape him still holding onto her hand tightly.

        He placed his lips on the finger that had his mothers, now (Y/N)'s ring for a few seconds, "Maybe I am, Fireheart." He husked brushing another kiss along her knuckles, before his head tilted to the side. Dimples.

Her stomach flipped, breath getting caught in her throat when those flashed in his wide, so wide smile staring down at her. She tried not to freak out realising he had them, and instead sent him a carefree grin back that made his grow wider.

"Thank you though, love." She spoke up quietly after a few seconds of them staring at each other, lifting up her hand to giggle giddily looking at the ring now on her finger, and pressed a kiss onto his arm over her, "I'll take good care of it, don't worry."

She looked back up at him grasping the dangling dog tag to pull him down to her, as their lips crash together in the middle. His hand squeezes hers tightly, tugging her bottom lip in between his teeth as her soft moan was muffled by his mouth, their lips moving in a passionate dance of push and pull.

When they pulled back their mouths made a small smacking sound, pants escaping them that hit the others flustered cheek. She brushed back some of his locks falling over his forehead, making him quickly dive back down to capture her lips in his, kissing her gently and urgently.

He only grinned flashing his dimples once more at her when their kiss was finished, and ran his fingers through her locks as he sometimes would massage her scalp also. Silence fell over them now, making her break it, "You must miss your family out here."

"I do." He admits truthfully looking down at her with his blue eyes, as they flickered to Coryo near the lake with Lucy Gray, and sighed a bit through his nose, "I have my brother with me which is enough, but I still worry about them all the time."

She hummed in understanding staring up at the blue sky that matched his eye colour, and then back down to that ring on her finger, "Would you really go back though?" She asked in a hesitant voice, "If you could to the Capitol, I mean."

He opened his mouth to answer what he always thought about that place, but then paused mid away and furrowed his brows together. His conflicted gaze shifts from her on his chest, and his brother a few meters away. His mouth moves before he could even stop it from doing so.

"I'm not so sure." He whispered honestly with a frown creasing his forehead, catching her by surprise as he took a strand of hair, twirling it around his finger mindlessly, "Even if I did, I hope you'd come back with me."

She made a grimacing expression for a second, and shakes her head turning her gaze back up to the sky, "That place is not for me, Cass." She replied in a heavy sigh, and squeezed his hand in his feeling him gave one back, "But there is a place here, for me, for you. For us."

Before Cassian could say anything back which he knew he'd agree with her without any doubt, Clerk ran up to them on the mat, bending down to hand (Y/N) a familiar flower, making her quickly sit up taking it eagerly into her hands.

"Did you just find this by the river bank?" She asked him excitedly holding the steam of the flower in one hand, as she gained a nod back from Clerk, "Thank you!" She called out to him when he ran back to the others, seeing him wave in acknowledgement.

Cassian sat up beside her also hearing her mumbling to herself inspecting the plant in her grasp, and bumped his shoulder against hers gently, "What is that?" He questioned interested, wanting to know what has his girl so happy about.

She flashed him a bright smile hearing him ask that, and continued to fiddle with the large red flower in her hands, "Pretty little thing, but it's determined." She began to talk running her fingertips along the petals, "Some call it red flare, but I think Rose has a much nicer ring. Don't you agree?"

None of them knew the significance of what she just said till years later, and none of them would ever see it coming.

He just smiled adoringly down at her with a loving glint in his eyes, wrapping an arm around her shoulder to pull her into his side as she nestled into him holding the flower, and felt him press his warm lips onto her temple, before resting his chin on top of her head.

another one of my fav chapters so far in this fic omgggg the amount of fluffy scenes between cass and y/n >>>> got me giggling and kicking my feet but also makes me feel very lonely writing it LMAOAOA😭 still i always enjoy writing scenes like those in this chap it brings me a lot of joy frrr

and yes there are some important bits in this chap also the connects to my peete fic im working on... ehehehe 😼😼
