CHAPTER ZERO
❛soulmate❜
❝ WELCOME, BATFAMILY ❞
██████ THANATOS WAS ENRAGE.
Having watched his mistress used and suffered by the hand of her Dumbledore
and Voldemort was the breaking point.
Thanatos, fueled by rage and despair, knew he couldn't let this continue. His mistress deserve happiness. He had wait for her through many centuries, only to see her suffer now. Thanatos was a powerful and ancient being, he was the Personification of death and the son of a primordial. He had the power to make those mortals relive their nightmare. Yet he had to take care of something else first. With a sinful smirk, Thanatos disappeared in the dark.
"Thanatos." Her voice barely a smirk as she stood up in the room. Her eyes as dark as the night with her curly dark brown hair sliding down her back.
"Are you sure?" She asked him, her tone dripping with hesitation. "What if I was to be reject?"
Thanatos appeared in the room, taking off his hood. "If he does then he will be discard and I shall find a worthy other half for you, mistress." His tone firm, it was certainly not a joke.
The words of Thanatos filled Ophelia with a mix of nerves and excitement. She knew that this decision would change her life forever, but she also trusted Thanatos completely. When he said that he would find a worthy other half for her if needed, Ophelia felt a deep sense of comfort and security.
"I trust you, Thanatos," she said, her voice strong and certain. "I shall rest."
"Go ahead." At his words, Thanatos snapped his finer and he disappeared once again. This time he was going for the people that should be worthy to care and love his mistress. Thanatos was ready to do anything for his descendant.
"DRAKE, YOU IMBECILE!" a young man with jade green eyes hissed as the other person identify as Drake winced at the anger in the tone. The young man was fully drench with a knife in his hand, he had a very tighy grip on it. "I am going to kill you." He hissed and ran after the older boy.
"H-hey-! Demon spawn, it was accident!" The elder squirmed and ran, he jumped off the couch, while the younger boy stayed on the other side. Bruce Wayne watched the chaos infolded and let out a sigh.
Bruce Wayne sighed, knowing full well that stopping Damian from chasing Drake would be impossible. "Boys, let's calm down for a moment," Bruce said with his usual gruff voice. "What's going on?" Damian glared at Drake, still holding the knife tight in his grip.
"Well, Drake─"
"Tim."
"Drake."
"Tim."
"Drake."
"Drake."
"Damn it." Tim groaned.
"Tt. Drake threw me in the pool!" Damian Wayne, only blood son of Bruce wayne complained. He gritted his teeth, the boy no younger than thirteen looked angry.
"Timothy Drake Wayne. Explain." Bruce turned to Tim who was looking like a zombie. "He threw my coffee! My coffee, Bruce! Its a crime. Arrest him." Tim said, like it was the worst crime possible.
Bruce rubbed his temples, his patience wearing thin. "Tim, Damian, settle down. I'm not arresting anyone, Tim."
"But Bruce!" Tim objected, while Damian still holding the knife tightly.
"No, Tim," Bruce said firmly. "And Damian put the knife away."
"But-" Damian started to protest once again, but his father's stern gaze shut him down. With a frustrated sigh, Damian put the knife away and crossed his arms, still clearly displeased.
"Woah, what happen here? Calm your tits, brothers." The three turned to the voice.
"Language, master Jason." Alfred Pennyworth, a long time buttler and a grandfather that step up said.
Alfred's wise words were the calm in the storm that was the Wayne family. Tim and Damian both rolled their eyes, while Jason smirked. After all, Alfred was the only one who could truly keep the Wayne family in line.
"Sorry Alfred," Bruce apologized, rubbing his temples again. "These boys are driving me up the wall."
Alfred chuckled. "Ah, master Bruce. The joys of fatherhood, eh?"
"Why did I sense sarcasticness from Alfred?" Jason whispered to Tim.
Being in their own little world, nobody except Damian seem to notice that they were no longer in their manor, his jade eyes narrowed quickly.
As the Wayne family found themselves in a mysterious void, they were surrounded by an endless expanse of swirling darkness. There was no up or down, no ground or sky, just an infinity of darkness that seemed to stretch on endlessly. The air was still and heavy, and everything felt strangely muted, as if sound itself was swallowed up by the void.
"What is going on?" Damian snapped, looking around at the rest of his family with suspicion.
"We would like to know to, Damian." A voice said firmly. Damian turned and saw Clark Kent, next to Lois Kent and Jonathan Kent, their son.
"We were in our fucking living room not even ten second ago!" Jason exclaimed.
"Language, master Jason."
Clark Kent looked equally confused, holding his son closer to him. "That's right, one moment we were in our home, and the next we're here in this strange place," he said worriedly.
Bruce, being the ever-observant detective, spoke up. "This seems like some kind of temporal or dimensional rift. We need to find a way back to our own reality."
Despite Damian's usual gruffness, he couldn't help but feel a sense of fear and unease in this unknown and unfamiliar place. The Wayne family stuck together, unsure of they were going to do next.
"We are here too." Stephanie brown said , standing next to Cassandra Cain, Barbara Gourdon and Selina Kyle.
"Hello Basty!!" Harley Quinn grinned happily, clapping her hands.
"Have we been kidnap?" Poison Ivy raised a brow.
"Okay, this is weird." Duke Thomas mumbled.
Damian looked around at the unexpected collection of characters, his fear quickly giving way to annoyance. "Tt. What are you all doing here?" He said, his voice dripping with disdain. "This is not a party."
"We know, Damian." Dick Grayson sighed.
Bruce, however, was focused on finding a way out. He glanced around the void, his mind racing as he tried to make sense of the situation. "We need to keep our wits about us and find a way out of here. This is not the time for idle chatter." He said sternly.
"I can help with that." A chilly voice, cold like the night whispered. They all turned to battle position looking for the voice.
Bruce's eyes narrowed as he scanned the void for the source of the voice. "Who's there?" He called out, his voice firm.
The others around him, including his family and allies, all adopted defensive positions, ready for whatever was coming.
The darkness seemed to swallow up any sound, but finally a figure slowly began to emerge.
As the figure emerged from the darkness, they could make out the distinct form of Thanatos. He was a tall and slender man with pale skin and unnaturally bright blue eyes. His dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and he wore a long, flowing robe that seemed to swirl around him like smoke. His movements were graceful and fluid, almost like a dancer's, and he moved with the confidence and assurance of someone who was completely in control of himself.
As he approached the group, there was an air of mystery around Thanatos, an aura of power that radiated throughout the void.
Alfred looked at the man and nodded respectfully. "Death."
"Wait what?" Tim turned to Alfred.
"What do you mean, Alfred?" Bruce asked cautiously.
"Let me introduce myself, I am Thanatos, Personification of Death."
"Oh shit. I should have sleep,
how in hell am I seeing death?!" Tim mumbled.
Bruce's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Thanatos. He had heard of Thanatos before, of course - everyone had heard of the Personification of Death - but he never thought he would encounter him in person.
"Thanatos," Bruce said, his voice betraying a slight hint of fear, "What is the meaning of this? Why have you brought us here?"
"Do not fear." Death said. "I am not here to collect any soul. Instead, I am here to make you all, vigilantes and former villains watched the life of someone."
"Someone?" Bruce asked, his curiosity piqued. "Whose life are you referring to?" He could feel his instincts as a detective kicking in, wanting to gather more information about this mysterious situation.
The rest of the group were equally wary, uncertain of what exactly Thanatos had in mind. None of them could recall a time they had encountered an entity of this magnitude before
"Someone who happen to be connect with one of your adopt blood son, Bruce Wayne. Jason Todd." His eyes travel to the boy in person. "I am here to have you watch the life of Jason Todd Wayne'
soulmate."
Bruce's eyes widened at the mention of his son Jason's soulmate. He glanced at his son, who looked equally surprised.
"Explain, Thanatos. What do you mean by Jason's soulmate?" Bruce asked, his tone serious.
"I understand your confusion and surprise." Thanatos continued calmly. "I am here to guide you through the life of someone who is destined to play a key role in Jason's future. This person is his soul mate."
The people around Thanatos listened intently, including Jason himself, as they tried to understand what Thanatos was trying to say. This was a completely unexpected and unfamiliar situation.
Bruce spoke up again, trying to make sense of the situation. "Thanatos, how can we be sure that this person is truly Jason's soulmate and not just a mere coincidence?"
Thanatos chuckled softly, a chilling sound in the void. "My dear Bruce, there are no coincidences. The fates have woven their threads, and this person is crucial to Jason's path. Trust me, they are destined to be together. Even the Fates can not do much." His eyes coldened. "His soul mate is my chosen."
Damian, who had been unusually quiet until now, finally spoke up. "Tt. How can you expect us to believe any of this? And why must we watch some stranger's life?"
"You will soon realize the importance of this soul mate." Thanatos replied, his voice calm and collected. "As for why you must watch this person's life, think of it as a way for you to understand the depth of their bond with Jason, and how it will affect his own life. But remember, that." he added with a stern tone, "you are merely observers in this journey. The destiny of mortals is not yours to change."
"And You do not have to worry about your universe. The time has stop there,
everything is frozen in time."
Bruce furrowed his brow, his detective instincts kicking in. "How is this possible? Time stopping across entire universes is a monumental event."
Some of the other members of the group nodded, sharing Bruce's sentiment. They couldn't fathom how someone could halt time on such a fundamental level.
"I am a god." Thanatos mentally facepalm as he reminded them.
"I have powers beyond your mortal comprehension." Thanatos said simply. "I can manipulate time and fate as I see fit."
Bruce thought for a moment, deep in contemplation. "And you expect us to just accept this without question?" he asked, his eyes narrowing.
"Do not act so surprised, Bruce." Thanatos replied, his tone icy. "You yourself have been known to bend the laws of physics and defy logic with your impressive skills and technologies. You should not be too shocked to find that higher powers exist."
Bruce couldn't deny the truth in Thanatos' words. He had pushed the boundaries of science and technology in his own world, and it wasn't too far-fetched to believe that the same could be said for other realms.
Despite his reservations, Bruce knew he had to proceed with caution. "Alright, Thanatos. Show us what you want us to see."
The other members of the group, including Jason, nodded in agreement, albeit with varying levels of skepticism and curiosity.
Thanatos snapped his fingers, no more darkness, instead there were a mutiples large couches, a large table with differents fruits, snacks and drinks with large pillows and a large screen.
Bruce and the rest of the group were taken aback by the sudden appearance of couches, the table of food, and the large screen.
"Where did all of this come from?" Bruce asked, a hint of suspicion still present.
Thanatos stood in the center of the gathered group, his arms crossed. "I am the God of Death, do you not expect me to have some tricks up my sleeve?"
Selina couldn't help but chuckle. "This is definitely better than the void."
"Coffee!!" Tim grinned.
Bruce shook his head, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Alright, everyone, let's get comfortable," he said. "Thanatos has brought us here for a reason. Let's see what he wants to show us."
And with that, the group settled onto the couches and chairs, eagerly waiting to witness the life of Jason's soulmate.
Jason raised a brow and look at Thanatos. "Her name?"
Thanatos smirks. "Ophelia Potter."
