CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

✧✧✧✧✧

DAKOTA HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH HERSELF, ERIC HAD GONE AFTER HIS MAKER TOWARD THE ROOF OF HOTEL CARMILLA. All while she sat frozen on the leather sofa of Godric's room. There was this sense of dread, knowing sunrise was near and though she hadn't known him long, she felt like crying for the vampire. He must be in so much pain to want to die a true death.

The sudden fear of Eric staying up there with him, flamed erupting from within his skin as they both met their true deaths got her to jump to her feet and exit the room in a hurry. The sun wouldn't touch the horizon for another half hour, but she had no idea what the morning sky would do to their bodies so she quickened her step as she made her way toward the roof.

The door was heavy and she pushed at it with all her might, letting it fall shut behind her. There were voices coming from up the stairs and she followed after them, stopping at the top of the staircase to see the two vampires arguing.

"Two-thousand years is enough." said Godric, facing away from his progeny. His body was turned to where the sun would rise, his expression difficult to place.

"I can't accept this," said Eric, jaw set. "it's insanity."

Godric let out a small sigh, moving to look up at the viking. "Our existence is insanity. We don't belong here."

"But we are here!" thundered Eric, trying to hold it together.

This was a moment between a maker and his progeny, and Dakota felt like she was intruding but she couldn't tear her gaze away from the two vampires. If they didn't want her there, Eric would have screamed something at her already, and he hadn't.

"It's not right." shared Godric. "We're not right."

"You taught me there is no right or wrong," stressed Eric, blood threatening to spill down his pale cheeks. "only survival, or death."

"I told a lie, as it turns out."

Eric clenched his jaw, taking a few steps toward Godric so he was hovering over him by a foot. He was desperate as he said, "I will keep you alive by force."

"Even if you could," said Godric solemnly. "why would you be so cruel?"

Dakota watched as the viking's lip began to tremble, holding in a cry as he whimpered in Swedish. "Godric, don't do it."

"There are centuries of faith and love between us." tried Godric, but it was too late.

Eric began to sob as he fell to his knees, head resting against his makers stomach in utter despair. Godric was one of the most important people in his life, and the thought of losing him send a wave of pain through him, a kind of pain he had never experienced before.

"Please, please." he cried, Swedish rolling off his tong easily. "Please, Godric."

Dakota couldn't help the tears that escaped her eyes, wanting nothing more than to embrace the vampire in a comforting grip. Eric wasn't someone to show much emotion other than anger or his flirtatious side, so for him to express emotion like this, it was difficult to watch. All she wanted was to tell him it would be alright, but that would be a lie.

"Fader, broder, sonen." Godric muttered, as he ran a hand through his progeny's hair in comfort. "Let me go."

Eric looked up slowly, blood streaming down his face in sticky red tears. "I won't let you die alone."

"Yes, you will."

More sobs escaped Eric as Godric took a hold of his chin, making him look up at him. Godric smiled softly, trying to comfort the viking as much as he could. "As your maker, I command you."

After a moment, Eric got to his feet, unable to ignore a direct order from his maker. He hovers over Godric, the sun getting closer and closer to the horizon and soon they'd be burning. Eric glanced down, defeated as he began to walk towards the staircase where Dakota stood. He stopped beside her momentarily, and she took in his blood stained face.

Dakota reached for his hand, squeezing his flesh with a soft smile. "I'll stay with him. As long as it takes."

Eric didn't have the energy to say anything back to her, he just gave her a small nod before disappearing down the steps and back toward the safety of the hotel. Dakota watched him leave before she turned her gaze toward Godric, who was already looking at her.

"It won't take long." he said. "Not at my age."

"You know, it wasn't very smart." she confessed, walking his way and stopped before him. "The Fellowship of the Sun part."

"I know." he sighed, walking toward the edge of the roof, overlooking the streets below and she followed. "I thought it might fix everything somehow. But I don't think like a vampire anymore." he took in a deep breath, even though vampires didn't need to breathe and asked, "Do you believe in god?"

"Yes," she nodded.

"If you're right," he turned to face her again. "how will he punish me?"

"God doesn't punish." she said. "He forgives."

"I don't deserve it." he sighed, lips quirking into a sad smile. "But I hope for it."

"Yes, you do." Dakota frowned. "You do deserve forgiveness."

"You'll care for him?" he asked, shaking his head softly. "For Eric?"

Dakota closed her eyes for a moment, trying to find a way to keep Godric from dying, trying to come up with something in her mind to convince him to stay alive, to try one more time. Her mind was empty and she hated herself for it.

When she opened her eyes, she saw how steam had began to waft off his skin and her eyes widened, seeing as the sun was almost at the horizon.

"Of course, I will." she nodded, tears running down her cheeks. "But you're wrong. Dying isn't going to solve anything, Godric. It's not going to stop your pain, it's not going to stop your regrets. It's only going to get worse. You'll be gone but the pain won't be. The people that care about you are left with the pain of losing you. And trust me, loss of a loved one isn't something someone can get over. Not ever. You just need to right harder."

Godric frowned, taking a step toward her and brushing a stray tear from her cheek.

"Two thousand years," he muttered. "and I can still be surprised. In this I see God."

"Please," she sniffed.

"I've killed," he said. "i've slaughtered, i've burned cities to the ground. All I have caused is pain."

"And that's horrible," she agreed. "I get it. But everyone does bad things, and this is not a way to excuse those actions, but it's true. I've done things I regret, and i'll carry them with me till the day I die. You also learn from your mistakes. The short time i've known you, you've been nothing but kind. You saved my life, Godric. You saved me from a whole lot of trauma and I can't thank you enough. No matter what has happened before, it's not you now. You're good. I've seen it. You could do so much more."

He dropped his hand from her face, turning to look at the horizon, his skin had started burning and it hurt, it really did.

"Words," he muttered. "you certainly have your way with them."

"I know I have no right to say this," she confessed, wiping at her face furiously. "I don't think this is the end for you. You just need to give it a try. And hell, maybe i'm wrong and you're not even listening to me, but I gotta try. There's so much good in this world, so much happiness and I think you're going to regret this."

Dakota's heart was hammering inside of her chest, and she knew she had no right to say anything that she had been saying to him, but the look on Eric's face had been enough for her to decide she should at least try.

It wouldn't be long before Godric would burn and she stood her ground, deciding to stay with him till the very end. The sun began to rise and his pale skin was turning red quickly, sizzling almost.

"A human with me in the end." he uttered, not looking at her. "I can barely believe it."

Dakota took in a sharp breath when he wrapped his arms around her waist and vamp sped toward the stairs, throwing the door open and slamming it shut behind them. The blonde stumbled as he softened his grip on her, eyes wide as she looked up at him. His expression was unreadable, but no malice to be seen.

"Alright," he nodded. "one more try."

✧✧✧✧✧

DAKOTA HESITATED IN FRONT OF HER SUITE DOOR, HAND HOVERING OVER THE DOOR HANDLE. The blonde turned to see Eric's door ajar, orange light flickering into the hallway. Dakota didn't know wether to go in there or not. Godric had said he'd retreat to his room for the day and had disappeared moments ago.

The blonde carefully pushed the vikings door open with her foot, peering inside. The fireplace was burning, cascading a comforting glow through the room. Hot air hit her face in a warm welcome as she stepped inside. His bedroom door was open and she made her way through the living room area.

Eric sat on his bed, shirt discarded somewhere within the room, head in his hands as he leaned forwards. Dakota could see the dried blood on his chest from crying and she took a few steps forward, standing before him.

He had smelled her when she entered, but he couldn't be bothered to look at her. He hadn't felt his maker dying yet, and the sun was already out, confusing him.

"Eric," she muttered as she sank to her knees in front of him.

"What have you done?" he whispered.

"Nothing," she shook her head. "I just ... uh, I just asked him to try one more time, I think. More or less. He's in his room."

Eric peered up at her, unreadable expression on his face as another set of tears threatened to spill from his eyes. This human girl before him, a human he had grown to trust over the last couple of weeks had convinced his maker to stay alive. He was at a loss for words, sadness turning int something of disbelief, and perhaps something he couldn't quite place.

Dakota touched his face gently, holding his chin between her fingers before leaning in to plant a soft kiss on either side of his cheeks, not caring that she touched the dry blood there.

The viking had frozen, eyes solely on the woman in front of him. Dakota released his chin, leaning back, but Eric's hand has reached up to grab a hold of the back of her neck to hold her in place. Their lips were almost touching and she let him hold her there, eyes never leaving his.

"I don't know what to say." he said, breath fanning against her cheeks.

"You don't have to say anything."

Eric let out a small laugh in disbelief as he glanced down at her lips, eyes darkening slightly as he noticed how her breath hitched in her throat. He could hear her blood rushing through her veins, her heart was about to burst from her chest and he could sense every emotion coursing through her very being.

He brushed a strand of hair from her face, placing it behind her ear carefully. Dakota didn't know if it was her or him, but their lips brushed against each others. When Dakota didn't pull away, Eric pressed his lips against hers more firmly, hand sliding down her arm to hold her by the waist, the other still on the back of her neck.

His lips were surprisingly soft against her own and she let out a surprised gasp when he pulled her up in swift motion, straddling him on the edge of the bed.

Dakota rested her hands on his bare chest, feeling cold skin against the palms of her hands. The vampire squeezed her waist through her blouse as their lips moved together in a frenzy of hungry kisses.

Dakota hadn't wrapped her head around the fact she was kissing Eric Northman, a thousand year old vampire she'd met a few weeks prior. A man who had saved her life multiple times, a man who could snap her in half if he wanted to, a man who she'd grown to like quite a bit over the course of knowing him.

Then again, she barely knew him or anything about him. Suddenly, she pulled back, trying to catch her breath as his hands moved up and down her thighs. Eric frowned, wondering if this was something she didn't want. There had been tension from the moment they'd met, and doing something about it felt exciting. She really didn't care anymore.

"Kiss me again." she said, determined as she looked into his eyes.

Eric grinned, his usual annoyingly handsome grin as he pulled her back down, smashing their lips back together in a messy kiss, teeth and all. This was better than the dreams she had experienced, he felt too good as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

There was a small nip against her lower lip and she pulled away slowly, seeing his fangs appear. Her hand moved up to touch her lip, but he hadn't broken the skin. Her finger moved to his own lips, brushing over them softly before tracing his fangs.

"That tickles," he muttered, opening his mouth slightly to give her better access.

The viking stood, lifting her up in the air as she wrapped her legs around his waist for support. He turned, laying her onto his bed before hovering over her, pushing himself up on his forearms. He moved his lips down her jaw and a soft moan escaped from her mouth.

"If I knew you'd make sounds like this, I would have kissed you a lot sooner."

"Shut up," she glared, pulling on a strand of blonde hair. "or i'm leaving."

He pulled away from her skin, grinning down at her in amusement. "I don't think you will." he said, feeling the warmth between her legs against his lower stomach. He could smell her arousal and she'd have his head if she'd know. "I think you want this, don't you? I can feel you."

"Fuck," she breathed, when he licked up her neck to which he chuckled in response, pleased with himself.

Eric played with the material of her blouse, slowly unbuttoning each button. Dakota made no move to stop him so he continued, popping the last one open and pulling away the material from her chest. He threw it to the floor, sucking down her neck and to the tops of her breasts that peeked out of her bra.

"I want this gone." he said, pulling on the straps of her bra.

"Then take it off."

He smirked and grabbed each side, tearing it in half in a quick pull. Her eyes widened as he threw the material somewhere behind him, discarding of it.

"Eric," she scolded, brows pulled together. "I like that one."

"You look better without." The vampire didn't waste anytime and attached his lips to the soft peak of one of her nipples, sucking. In response, she arched her back, long moan escaping her mouth. His cold skin felt amazing against her flushed one. "I'll buy you any bra you want."

All the built up tension from the past couple weeks finally released itself.

"You like that?" he muttered, turning toward the other breast as his hand squeezed the other one.

Dakota only ever had sex one time before, and it hadn't been anything special. There weren't much feelings involved and she had regretted it the moment it had happened. Dakota never did it again, the thoughts of the man who tried were too vulgar for her to even give them the time of day.

But Eric, his mind was silent, she couldn't hear a single thing and she had welcomed the quiet with open arms.

The vampire kissed down her stomach, dark blue eyes falling onto her own. Dakota let out a whimper when he kissed below her navel, not used to the sensation. She had expected to be nervous, scared even but there was none of that.

Whatever he was doing, it felt good and she didn't want it to stop so she muttered, "Please,"

He began to unbutton her jeans, raising a brow to give her time to object and when she didn't he slid the denim down her legs. He took a hold of her ankle and kissed the skin there, goosebumps appearing up her legs. He left open mouthed kisses as he worked his way up and all she did was watch him get closer. He didn't warn her as he planted one directly on top of her cotton underwear, feeling her wetness against his lips.

"Jesus," she cussed, grabbing a fistful of his hair, never having experienced something so intimate before. "you don't have to."

Eric gave her a sly grin, pressing another kiss on her panties, hooking his fingers around the waistband of them. "You have no idea how much I want to. Can I taste you?"

All Dakota could do was nod her head as he ripped away the material, leaving her bare before him. His eyes were on her most intimate part, staring hungrily, fangs still out. He could feel her nerves suddenly, she was scared he'd bite her.

"Don't worry, I got you."

He held eye contact with her as he brought his face down and attached his lips to the wet skin between her thighs. The slight sting of his fangs against her sensitive skin made her whimper, but he didn't break the skin. He wasn't going to, not today.

"Fuck," she moaned, arching her back and he placed his arm over her stomach to hold her down. "fuck, fuck, fuck."

Dakota couldn't make a coherent thought as his mouth moved against her, she had never felt this kind of pleasure before and she tugged on his blonde locks, causing him to let out a chuckle. Breathy moans fell from between her lips and it sounded like music to his ears. He had wanted to taste her ever since he'd laid eyes on her in Fangtasia when she'd come in with her pretty sundress and her wide eyes, and it was definitely worth the wait.

"Eric," she moaned. "more."

The vampire was uncomfortably hard against his jeans as he pressed another peck against her before moving up her body, leaving a trail of wet open mouthed kisses. She reached for his belt, tugging on it, wanting his clothes gone too. He shrugged them off after unbuttoning his button, his boxers followed quickly as he kicked them to the floor.

Dakota wrapped her arms around his neck and reached up to take his lips between her own. The ache between her thighs was starting to get uncomfortable and she wanted him inside of her, so she moved her hips up to meet his.

"I didn't peg you for being impatient." he growled, lowering himself toward her as he hooked his right hand underneath her knee, pulling her leg up to get better access to where she needed him the most.

"Don't tease me."

Eric didn't need to be told twice and slid inside of her in a quick hard thrust. Dakota cried out, digging her nails into his shoulders, hard enough to draw blood. It hurt, not like it did the first time but she still needed to get used to is. Despite the discomfort, her body betrayed her as sounds of pleasure escaped her.

"Gods, you feel good." grunted Eric, as he began to move his hips gently, feeling her walls clench around him.

His lips attached to the skin of her neck, marking a purple bruise near her pulse point. The scent of her blood was overwhelming, adding to his pleasure. Dakota moved her head to the side, giving him more access, and he tried hard not to sink his fangs into her veins.

The sound of his hips hitting hers echoed through the room, and all she could do was hold onto him as he thrusted into her. He was good, and she knew he knew. Eric had had thousand years of practice but in this moment she didn't care at all, all she cared about was the fact he was making her feel good, and gods was it good.

"Faster," she moaned, eyes closed tightly.

Eric smirked against her skin, snapping his hips toward her in quick thrusts. Dakota was a panting mess underneath him and she had never looked more beautiful to him.

Her heart was beating vigorously and she was blinded by pleasure when his fingers began to rub circles between her legs. Her mind was empty, clouded by the feeling of his moving inside of her.

Her heavy breaths turned into quick moans as her orgasm approached, walls clenching around him. His lips found her own and he took in her moans happily as she came. His thrusts became sloppy and he let out a string of cuss words as he followed behind her, collapsing on her chest, though not tired. If it were up to him they'd could go again, and again and again.

Dakota had her eyes closed, trying to catch her breath as she felt him nudge her cheek with his nose. "Get some rest now. It's been a hard few days."
