           LUCIA ARJONA HAD NEVER THOUGHT THAT AT THE AGE OF TWELVE THE WORLD SHE ONCE KNEW WOULD CRUMBLE TO A STATE OF DESPAIR. The young girl watched as a fungal brain infection, called Cordyceps, took over more than half of the population. Cities were bombed, her mother was torn from her arms by an infected and her father and two younger sisters starved during the first winter in the new world, leaving her alone with her older brother.

They avoided the quarantine zones like the plague, rumours had begun to spread about the food supply and FEDRA was killing off whomever they pleased to lessen the population. It didn't take long before fell into the hands of bandits, and Lucia was all alone after that.

Now, twenty years later hunger was still very much a problem within the quarantine zone she had found herself in, after having avoided them for so long. Boston wasn't where she had planned to end up, but this one hadn't tried to kill her yet. The QZ was hell on earth, corrupt soldiers were around every corner and with the was between FEDRA and The Fireflies about to explode, nowhere was safe.

Lucia was never someone who played well with others, way too stubborn for her own good to rely on anyone but herself. That is until Marlene, someone who she owes a debt too, confides in her about some girl who got bitten weeks ago by an infected and wants her help to escort her to another group in the city outside of the zone.
