✧.*༄ I HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR FACE OR
HEARD YOUR VOICE IN SO LONG
"(Y/N). Hey, you're gonna need this," Tony said, pulling you aside for a moment before the Time Heist was put into motion. He had with him a time-space GPS and the accompanying Quantum Suit. "I know it's not your trademark black and green, but it just goes over your other armor."
"...I haven't worn my armor in years," you reminisced, not yet processing what he was really offering. You chuckled softly, thinking back. "It— It reminded me so much of Father."
"Alright, well, you don't necessarily need your armor for this, but you can't complete your mission without the suit, I know that much."
Looking at the suit that he was giving you, your eyes widened. It was a symbol of heroism before you. "You... You want me to wear this?" you asked.
"No, I want you to keep staring at it— Yes, I want you to put it on."
You were touched that he would consider you as a part of his team. Almost your entire life would prove that that was impossible. You could barely believe it. "I— I don't deserve such an honor. After everything that's happened, everything I've done... This is beyond anything—"
"(Y/N)," Tony said, effectively cutting off your rambling. You looked at him and saw sincerity looking back. "You've earned it."
"Thank you," you whispered. A wavering smile overtook your face.
As you prepared yourself for the mission, putting on your GPS and suit, you couldn't help but relish in the overwhelming gratefulness that you felt. This marked the true beginning of your redemption. To be a part of something so grand was remarkable.
"Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends... We lost family... We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back," Steve said to you all. Everyone was in uniform with their Quantum Suits and determined mindsets.
"You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each, no mistakes. No do-overs."
As everyone else stepped onto the Quantum Tunnel, you veered around to the Projector and accessed the control panel. You recalled the directions that Tony gave you; Flip these levers, press this button twice, flip those, plug this in here...
"Most of us are going somewhere we know, but it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives. And we're gonna win. Whatever it takes. Good luck."
You let out a deep breath as the Projector started to power up. Stepping up onto the platform, you caught a glimpse of your uncle from where he stood. Your eyes met his and pride filled your smile. Best of luck, you mouthed. Thor nodded, sending back a small grin. The helm of his Quantum Suit flipped over his head.
Within moments, everyone was sent into the Quantum Realm.
The monitor with your machine alerted you that it was now fully powered, drawing your attention back to it. A countdown began, and you prepared your mind for what was to come. Your Quantum Suit engulfed your newly equipped armor and covered your head.
Your attempts from the past had all ended the same. You ended up draining yourself, probably getting halfway there before you collapsed. Thor had to keep watch over you until you had recovered. This time, you were completely resolved to reaching this unknown realm.
As you closed your eyes just as you had tried many times before, you focused even more intensely. You felt energy coursing through you from the machine, supplying you with the strength you needed for the task. Your mind was reaching the Soul Realm, slowly, but you could sense the foreign aura and bit of light from behind your eyelids.
The mental strain was less severe but still present. You tried to ignore it for as long as you could, just long enough to make it, just long enough to finally get yourself there—
And your senses suddenly jolted back to life. Your eyes snapped open, breaths frantically escaping you as you panted and tried to calm down. You looked down at your hands only to notice that you stood upon water; ripples spread across the ground whenever you shifted.
You looked back up with wide eyes.
You were greeted with a vast orange sky and an infinite view of it in every direction. It almost looked cloudy— smears of mist laid out overhead. Beneath you, it was mirrored on the water's surface. Everything in sight was orange. The entire landscape extended into the distance to no end. It was overwhelming.
I... I did it, you thought in awe. Dropping your head, you caught a glimpse of your reflection in the water. No longer wearing the Quantum Suit, you saw the green and gold patterns of your most elegant armor, and, extending above that, the bent horns of your father's helmet. With a shaky hand, you reached up to touch it. Ever so gently. It was really there.
Now knowing that you most definitely weren't at the Avengers Facility anymore, you began to really look around. There was almost nothing else to see other than the orange sky and the strange liquid floor, though. Almost.
You turned around.
There was a simple structure not too far away, a figure residing beneath it. His back was turned towards you, but, right away, you knew who it was— he wore the same helmet that you did. Whether it was real or not... that was what you were unsure of.
The sight still filled you with so many emotions at once. You tried not to let your eyes water, for you wanted to see him clearly. "F-Father...?" you whispered. Your voice was nearly mute. You barely perceived it. You felt numb as you took a staggering step towards him.
Loki turned around, giving you the warm smile that you had longed to see for five years. Your tears fell and got lost in the liquid floor.
His greeting was fond. "Hello, Dearest."
A name you hadn't heard in five years.
He held out one hand, offering it to you.
You immediately broke out into a sprint, heedless of the tremendous splashes being created under your feet. Although the distance was short, it felt like an eternity as you tried to reach his embrace, ignoring the ache of your heart, ignoring the need to break down in sobs. You ran, you ran, you ran, reaching for his outstretched hand.
Just as you were about to grab it, everything vanished.
Your hand slipped through empty space. You gasped as you began to fall, having expected to land in your father's arms, and went plummeting towards the water. The water fell with you, though, no longer maintaining its abnormal place as the floor. It turned to rain.
It felt like torturous slow motion. Spiraling downward, your stomach flipped and the wind whipped around your cape. All you could see was orange. The only things that you could feel around you were the air and the droplets of water splayed about. The only thing that you could feel was dismay.
It was all too familiar to have something so dear to you ripped away.
That was your last thought before you slipped into unconsciousness.
