Glancing away from the withering plants surrounding him, Azrail peered up, only to step back in awe. Before him stood an imposing dwelling enveloped by water with a waterfall behind it, supplying it with the water that was desired as the rest of the water fell off from the cliff, gathering underneath as it floated away into a river. The castle grounds stood amid where the waterfall water would fall off from, settling on the bulky ground as it ascended from elevations greater than that of the majestic rock rushing with liquid.
Many buildings were united with the central castle architecture as they were strewn around the waterbed, with one short building detached from the rest as it rested near the cliff from where all the water fell off to be driven away by the river. Apart from that one sole building, there stood five other onesโtwo were on either side of the main castle grounds, made into the shape of a cylinder with an upside-down cone-shaped roof, the peaks presenting the symbol of death: A withered willow tree.
Enormous windows were presented from where Azrail stood on the towering black bridge, the relieving sound of crashing water conflicting with still water chanting in his ears as he felt more at tranquility. The moon shone splendidly here as its light reflected off from the decorated windows that represented varied pieces of death: from a butchered widow to presenting the death of a butterflyโall of this Azrail remained in wonderment.
The main castle groundsโhoweverโrose mightier than the rest, steeper than the waterfall itself, with its ceiling the hue of crimson red; the withered willow tree constructed on top of the peak as every other roof had. The color of the outside walls was a milky white with deceased vines scaling throughout the architecture. He would have those disposed of later.
From how extraordinarily massive and broad it was, Azrail only had one thought: Wouldn't this better aid him in feeling lonely? Only he and Kallias would dwell there for the rest of eternity with no one to share such an immense castle with; which, in his opinion, wasn't very heartening.
"God Azrail, do you enjoy God Azrail's new domain?"
No.
"Yes, it's lovely. The littered island across each space throughout the castle grounds is brilliantโand the water circling the grounds? Absolutely astonishing. The castle isn't too grandiose or overwhelming; just right for me." Taking in a deep breath, Azrail clutched the velvety fabric of his unique clothing as he glanced over at Kallias, smirking at him.
"Shall we continue?" Receiving this question coming from his god, Kallias felt shameful. How could he have let his god wait? Such a youthful and unsophisticated attendant he is! Cursing his imprudence and inadequacy of awareness, Kallias hastily complied, bowing down his head as he followed his god inside of the castle, far away from the white bridge that worked as one of the many entrances into the castle.
Passing by the silver gates, Azrail groaned as he saw that they now had to trek a full circle before making it to the entrance. This was certainly taking far longer than he had anticipated. Picking up his god's exhaustion, Kallias' eyes twinkled. This was his chance to show his god that he was useful!
"God Azrailโif I may suggest something?"
"Go ahead."
"God Azrail is competent for floating and teleporting anywhere God Azrail appeals. So if God Azrail so wishes to, God Azrail can transport in front of the central doors or inside of God Azrail's chambers if God Azrail so pleases." This news delighted Azrail as he nodded his head in understanding, a subtle grin eluding his restraint before receding back into a slim line.
"Thank you, Kallias, for such helpful information. I shall keep this in my heart and thoughts." Even when he spoke those words with such certainty, Azrail did not know how to use such power. And soโwith a defeated sighโAzrail sucked up his ambitions in trying to impress Kallias and instead opted to stroll around the wide circle with Kallias in tow.
Finally making it in front of the grand marble doors, Azrail gawked at them, his expression hollow as he showed no signs of attempting to open the double doors. They were made of pure marble, and as he already knewโhe could barely pick up a chair, so swinging open even one marble door was already out of question.
Noticing his god's lack of movement, Kallias understood and instead opened the door for him; which he was plotting to do so whether his god thought himself powerful enough to open the doors. Of course, he thought this god was powerful enough, his god can do anything!
Mumbling a poor 'thank you' to Kallias, Azrail strode inside and whistled whilst he surveyed the interior design. The foyer was abundant in stature and range with a lot of space with only two velvet cushioned chairs near the fourteen-foot windows which brought in the limited light that the moon provided, lighting the room up exposing the dangling chandelier with tear-shaped diamonds hanging from the lean outstretched golden wings. On top of the chandelier was a spherical-opened ceiling showcasing the twinkling stars, making the chandelier light up with more vitality. The stairs were created in a whirled design only for the heart to be a circle with a marble railing enveloping the intermediate circle before sinking downward once again. A red stair runner with two of the sides being a royal purple tumbled down from the burgundy wood until the end, complimenting the aesthetic of the building. Before the massive chandelier, only two feet away, stretched another chandelierโthis one larger than the last. Instead of being a luminous golden color, it was instead an ominous black with the tear-shaped diamonds not glittering no matter how much moonlight was streamed on it.
The flooring was marbleโlike everything in that castleโand was not unstable at all, regarding how it looked. Gliding around the foyer for a few minutes, Azrail praised the open structure of the building that supported for more natural light to stream in, accentuating the mysterious yet appeasing atmosphere of his palace.
Yes, his palace. No one else's, but his own. This thought put a grin on his face.
Stepping once more up the marble staircase, Azrail paused once he arrived at the middle point of the stairway and peered down upon the foyer, his eyes sparkling. Taking a moment to enjoy this view, Azrail breathed in profoundly before exhaling, already preparing his journey towards his room... which he did not know where it was.
Turning his body around to face Kallias, Azrail chuckled in embarrassment, rubbing the back of his neck to soothe his dilemma. "Where exactly is my bedchamber?" Amused by his god's ashamed gestures, Kallias bent down. "Shall Kallias have the honor and privilege of showing God Azrail to his chamber?" Azrail nodded.
"As God Azrail wishes." Bowing profoundly in front of Azrail as he prepared to lead the way Kallias trudged ahead and presented him where everything was as they led towards Azrail's chamber; like where the music room was established as they crossed by its door, where the drawing-room was, where the strategy room was, and any other room that held any significance if they were to pass across it.
"God Azrail, may this Kallias speak?"
"You've already spoken, so go on."
"God Azrail can control God Azrail's territory, such as the shape of something or the movement of the water. God Azrail can warp this palace into becoming a miniature morsel if God Azrail so chose." This announcement captivated him. He was competent of such a thing? He thought he felt a newfound high when he started living alone, but now this felt a lot better.
"Is that all?"
"To answer God Azrail's question: No. God Azrail is also capable of expanding his territory and creating numerous other constructions such as buildingsโbut never a life form." Even when Azrail already knew that he couldn't do that, he still felt slightly dissatisfied. This meant that if he were to accidentally kill a plant, it would never flourish again.
"I see..." Not wanting to maintain the conversation, Azrail only applauded his knowledge, thus making Kallias flustered. "We've arrived." Hearing this announcement, Azrail looked away from his staff and up to see two black double doors encrusted with golden-like veins adorning the door. And just like his staff, all the colors inundating it seemed to become absorbed.
Watching as Kallias opened the double doors, Azrail stepped inside and gaped at the elegance of his new bed chambers. The floors featured black vines that stretched from the ends of the room to the very intermediate of the room from where there was an elevated floor bed with an enormous Alaskan king bed in the middle with bed curtains covering around the bed being a translucent periwinkle color. Further away from theโjust on the edge of the elevated floorโbed were curled cement railings. Just circling the bed with only one foot of distance were five gray pillars that extended from the top and towards the ceiling, flowing to the ends of the room. The rest of the room was rather unfilled except for five doors around the circle-shaped room and an enormous piano on the far end of the room next to four immense windows detailing a scene of when Azrail was inaugurated as the next God of Deathโand the most fascinating part was that the figures in the stained glass windows seemed to move.
Wow, everything transpired so quickly, Azrail felt like he could barely catch up.
Striding up to his bed, Azrail sat down, only to shiver in contentment at how remarkably soft it was. It felt like he was languishing on an authentic cloudโbut wasn't about to fall off. Whilst he was in the middle of touring paradise, Kallias disturbed his enchanted state.
"God Azrail, everything is prepared as you have demanded."
Ah, yesโnow he was ready for a well-earned bath.ย
