πππ πππ almost accident was hell for the youngest Chambers sister. Not only was Ester still complaining about how dangerous her motorcycle was, Liz had to continuously keep reminding her that it wasn't because of her motorcycle that she had gotten into yet another accident. In fact, she had made it clear to Ester that if her bike had been working at the time, then she would of probably made it home safe and sound without getting into a rusty old van that Ester keeps claiming are safer then her bike. Ester knew it was the truth because it shut her right up.
Β Β Β Not only did she have to get an ear full from her sister while Danny went to pick up Liz's bike from the school and take it to the shop, Ester had to open her big mouth and call their grandmother, who was freaking out and insisting on coming down to make sure the young blonde was okay. After about two hours of talking her down, Liz managed to convince her that it wasn't necessary and that she was alright. Then she had to force Ester to leave the room, which did not go over well, her grandmother insisting she go see her neurologist earlier then scheduled, but had become relieved to learn that she didn't hit her head or have any concussion of the sorts, according to the Dr. Cullen.
Β Β Β All Liz could really think about was her conversation with the Hale boy in the hospital parking lot. She could feel herself getting worked up in anger every time he crossed her mind and it annoyed her to no end that he was what she keeps thinking about. She hates how involved she has gotten, how curious she was. Why was she so damn curious about Jasper freaking Hale? What happened to just ignoring the Cullen's and minding her own business? Ever since she had gotten home from California, things have been changing drastically and it was scaring the Chambers girl a bit.
Β Β Β Liz shamefully admits that she may have tried to do some research of Jasper Hale and even the whole Cullen family online last night, and she couldn't find a single piece of information on them. Nothing on any social media, or anyone who existed with the same Cullen's who she attended to school with. The only person she found any information on was Dr. Carlisle Cullen, but that was only under the Forks Hospital website because he was on the list of all their on-call doctors. It only caused Liz's curiosity to grow more, and for her to discover something she never truly realized before.
Β Β Β She absolutely hates being curious. She hates the wondering, the confusion, the constant questions. She hates every single bit of it and it was driving her slowly into insanity at this point. She had bitten her nails down the the nubs because she was so stressed about this whole thing. She hated every single thing about it and it is all Jasper Hale's fault.
Β Β Β Sitting in the passenger side of Danny's truck, the blonde had zoned out the whole way to school. According to her future brother-in-law, the spark plug in her bike completely blew out and he needs to order her a new one, which will take about three days to come in, so for the time being she had to rely on other people for rides. And after what happened yesterday, she really wasn't in the mood to get back into another moving vehicle but then again, she didn't want to miss anymore school then she already has, knowing she was already so far behind as it was, even with all the work she was given during her stay in California.
Β Β Β Liz requested to go with Danny seeing is how she couldn't really stand being in her sisters presence any longer then she has too. Danny was always very good at minding his own business, something Liz always liked about him, so he seems like the perfect person to take her where she doesn't have to constantly hear, 'are you okay?'. It was terribly exhausting, and she knows she's just going to get bombarded by her friends already, as she had refused to answer any of their texts out of annoyance. Jessica blew up her phone with worried texts that later turned into angry ones in result of her not replying, and Angela's consisted on two simply texts. One was to ask her how she was doing and the other was to apologize for Jessica's constant messages, knowing Liz wasn't replying to them on purpose. Mike had texted her a couple times, but seemed to get the hint when she wouldn't answer. Tyler had only texted her once, which turned into another apology that Liz almost blocked his number from her phone just so she didn't have to hear him apologize anymore. Eric... well, Eric sent her a text but it wasn't to ask how she was doing. It was actually a link to a video on YouTube of a donkey playing the piano, something he found way too hilarious. The only person she texted back was Bella, but that was just to talk about what they both had witnessed the day prior.
Β Β Β As the less then five minute drive to school finally came to a stop, Danny pulling up to the front of the school where she saw a lot of students either walking into the building or standing outside in the parking lot, some even next to the two yellow school buses that were parked in the lot. Remembering about the field trip the biology classes were taking, Liz practically sighed in relief that she failed Chemistry last year and has to retake it, resulting in her not being able to do Biology until next year. She does not need to be stuck on a bus for a half an hour going to some Green House for a environmental study and learn about crap she could care less about. It was not worth the panic attack of being out on the main roads or a waste of a good Xanax, that's for damn sure.
Β Β Β "Liz?" The sound of Danny's voice snapped her out of her little daze, the curly haired blonde turning to him, humming in response. "Don't chew my head off for asking this, but are you alright? You've been sitting here for over two minutes since we've pulled up."
Β Β Β Liz couldn't help the smile that tugged on the corner of his lips, knowing Danny wasn't one to step on any toes and knows his boundaries. She also liked how nervous he was when asking her if she was okay, seeing is how that question has become sort of a trigger for the young girl to snap. He was too sweet for his own good sometimes.
Β Β Β "Uh, yeah. Sorry, I guess I'm just a little tired. School isn't exactly my favorite place," Liz simply says, looking out the window at all the other students talking away without a care in the world. Liz remembers being just like them. She remembers where she never cared about anything, how being with her friends was enough to make her look forward to school even though she hated it. She remembers being normal. She can never go back to feeling normal ever again.
Β Β Β "Yeah, school was never exactly my thing either. I think I ditched too much to even remember what it's like," Danny chuckles, looking at the school almost regretfully. "I wished I did things differently."
Β Β Β "Were you really as bad as they say you were?" Liz asked, looking over at the tanned skin boy curiously. "There were many rumors. I tend not to listen to rumors, but it's hard to ignore them sometimes. Especially when your sister starts to date a boy those rumors constantly circle around."
Β Β Β Danny didn't really react, but Liz could see the shame in his eyes as he thought back to those days, it wasn't that long ago. "I was worse then what any of those rumors say. I did some pretty messed up things. I hurt people, was worse then a bully ever was. I disrespected my teachers and even my father. I was with a lot of girls, I did a lot of drugs. My second home was the third jail cell that the police station, Chief Swan was too good to me because of his friendship with my father. That cell was always reserved for me. I was a pretty messed up kid."
Β Β Even though Liz knew all these things about him, it was still a bit surprising to hear, especially since if you were to look at him now, you wouldn't see a bad guy who did all those horrible things. You'd see a kind soul who only wanted to help others. It was hard for Liz to see him as her sister always did, which is what really made her parents so upset when she started dating him. Liz used to be on their side, but never voiced her opinion because she believed her sister had a right to make her own decisions. And if she thought Danny Black actually was a good person with a kind heart, then Liz forced herself to believe it as well.
Β Β Β "You can say it." Liz turned to the older man, squinting her brows in confusion. He nodded his head at her timidly before continuing. "You can say what your thinking. I promise I'll be honest with you."
Β Β Β Liz hesitated, not sure if she should ask but knew he was probably going to tell her if she didn't ask or not. "What happened? What made you act so horribly like that?"
Β Β Β "I told myself once it was because of my mother dying," Danny starts, looking out the window as he rubs his forehead tiredly. "But that was just a lie to make up for all the crap I had done. The truth was, I liked feeling superior to others. I liked the adrenaline of getting high, the reputation of the legendary bad boy. I liked the attention I got from the girls, even though I treated them horribly." He paused for a second, reaching up and pulling down the visor that revealed a picture attached in the middle. "Your sister was probably the only one to see past all my bullshit. She was the first girl who didn't fall for my charms, actually told me to fuck off and get a life actually."
Β Β Β Liz couldn't help but chuckle. "Sounds like Ester."
Β Β Β "Mhm, I knew for some reason, I had to get to know her. So I found out what she likes and I tried to whoo her with my 'skills', if you could call them that. She was not at all impressed, mind you. It wasn't until we were at a party and I found her, away from everyone else, sitting on the rooftop on the highest floor, looking out to the stars. I remember how beautiful she looked with her curly hair clipped back and the moon shining down on her sun kissed skin. It was like for the first time, I saw someone who deserved the world. Who deserved more then me. It was the night where I promised her that I would be what she deserved. As long as she gave me a chance. And she did."
Β Β Β "So I cleaned up my act, went to rehab, got my GED, and then asked your sister on a proper date." Danny turned to look at Liz, who was smiling brightly at him. "I think you know what happened after that."
Β Β Liz nods, watching as a certain group of teenagers pulled into the school, all getting out of their expensive vehicles and some making their way to the buses, the others towards the school. "I'm glad your not an arrogant pig anymore and that your marrying my sister."
Β Β Β Danny let out a loud chuckle. "Me too, kid."
Β Β Β As the two departed, Liz swung her bag over her shoulder and made her way towards front steps. A few students stared at her as they passed, but Liz forced herself to pay them little to no mind as she crossed her arms over her chest and watched as three out of five of the Cullen's move towards one of the buses in the parking lot for most of the biology classes trip to the Green House. Her eyes were fixated on a certain blonde, watching his every move as he pretended not to notice.
Liz thinks about what Danny had just said and how all the rumors that went around about him were true. There were rumors about the Cullen's that used to seem absurd to her but now Liz was trying to be a bit more open minded. That family was strange, very strange, yes. But everyone is. Some people think they are in some kind of cult. Who knows? Maybe they were? Maybe they were into witchcraft who practice voodoo and all that crap? That doesn't exactly explained what Jasper has said to her yesterday.
Β Β Β He had openly admitted to being at the scene of the Highway 19 accident. He admitted it and then refused to say anything more about it. It only left more questions for the young blonde than ever before. The fact that he could just admit to being a witness to one of the most tragic accidents to happen in the state of Washington in a over a decade and something that was clearly traumatic for her and than not explain himself was a very low and careless thing to do. It left Liz angry, very angry and frustrated to the point she wanted to scream. How could he do that? How could he get her hopes up like that than just dismiss it all at the same time? It was cruel and heartless and Liz will do whatever she has to get to the bottom of this.
Which is why, as she watches the three Cullen's get onto the bus, Liz had devised a very, very bad idea. It was stupid really, and sort of childish, but at this point, she was tired of giving a damn. Liz didn't think twice before making her way towards the yellow school bus, paying no other student any mind as she climbs up the three steps and searched for the person who she demands answers from. Not really finding it hard to spot him, seeing is how the bus was hardly filled yet and his golden blonde hair stood out like a sore thumb among all else. She takes long strides towards the boy, both his siblings who sat behind him watched her carefully and curiously, Liz not hesitating to take the seat right beside him.
Β Β Β Not once did his eyes look away from the window. "I didn't know you took Biology."
"I don't."
"Then why are you here?" Again, he did not remove his gaze from the window.
The curly haired blonde couldn't help the smirk that spread across her lip. "Why, I came to see my best friend Jasper, of course."
Β Β Β This caused a reaction, as he slowly turned his head to her, raising his brow at her words, fighting a smile tugging on the corner of his lips. "Best friend?"
Β Β "Ahh, that's right. I'm not allowed to be friends with you. Or what was it that you told me? I need to keep my distance from you?" Liz asks, scooting a little bit closer to the boy, the sides of their arms touching and Liz could feel Jasper stiffen as she got closer. "Something you need to know about me, Jasper. I don't listen very well."
Jasper let out an amused laugh, the bus nearly filled with students and some were staring at the two of them in surprise and amazement, wondering why Liz Chambers was sitting next to Jasper Hale so closely. It was a very unusual sight to see. "Trust me, Liz. I've known that about you for a very long time."
"So you have been watching me then?" Liz smirks. She heard a giggle from behind, looking over her shoulder to see Alice holding a hand over her mouth to suppress more giggles to escape. Her eyes then looked over at Edward, who even though has been trying to pick up information from the girls very confusing mind, couldn't help but find this exchange very hilarious as he watches his brother have his his hand full with Liz Chambers.
"What are you trying to accomplish here, Liz?" Jasper questions, his voice sounding a bit irritated but that only meant she was succeeding.
"I just want to get to know you, Jasper Hale. That's what friends do."
"I thought we agreed that you shouldn't be friends with me." Liz shook her head at his statement.
"I never agreed to such thing." The curly haired blonde said, her blue eyes shinning more in the light seeping through the tinted window. "Just ask Angela or even Bella. I never asked those girls if they wanted to be my friend, I just sort of become one to them. And I've decided, that you Jasper Hale, are going to be one of those friends."
"Liz Chambers?" The sound of Mr. Molina voice came from beside her, the older man look at the girl with confusion. "What are you doing? You are not in any of my classes."
"Sorry, Mr. M. I was just catching up with my friend Jasper here. I'm heading out right now," Liz informs him, for which the older man nods and turns to go check the other bus, Liz turning to the golden haired boy with a smirk still on her lips. "Have a nice time at the Green House. Pick a flower for me, will you? Preferably a daffodil. Those are my favorite."
Without another word, Liz left the bus, her heart hammering in her chest and her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Her mind was spinning as she raced towards the school, only turning around to see the two buses leave the property. Only one thing flashed through her mind at the moment. What the hell was she thinking?
><><><
Β Β Β πππ πππ ππππππππ ππππππ ππ she wasn't apart of this biology field trip, seeing is how basically everyone of her friends were and they had all gone. It meant she didn't have to deal with Jessica and the others getting down her throat about the lack of text messages. It was a bit lonely though, especially in gym class as she sat on the bleachers, watching people she does not talk to play a game of basketball. The jealousy that radiated off her was definitely noticeable if you looked at her face. The sulking and scowling was enough to give it away. Some girl even thought she was directing the scowls towards her, for which Liz just sent Lauren Mallory death glare, seeing is how the two girls had never gotten along before. She used to be friends with Jessica, but because no one really liked Lauren and her horrible attitude, Jessica decided she wasn't worth the trouble if it was going to cause a rift between the group.
Β Β Β Now Liz was currently in math class, for which she just zoned out completely and stared out the window, trying her best to erase that embarrassing moment with Jasper Hale out of her mind. Why? Why did she do that? He probably thought she was such an idiot. It seemed like a good plan at the time... it is a good plan. But it was Jasper Hale for crying out loud. He had some weird affect on her that she can't exactly explain. The way his eyes would look into hers, how intense yet soft they were at the same time. It made no sense, yet it made all the sense in the world.
When the bell rung to signal the end of class, Liz stood up and gathered her belongings aimlessly, still in her little daze from early. She wasn't able to make it past the teachers desk without Mr. Healy calling her back. "Miss Chambers, may I have a word?"
Β Β Β Halting in her step, she walked back to the desk that sat an elderly man, hair as white as snow and thick rectangular glasses sat on the bridge of his nose. He wore a white dress shirt and a really nice red and black tie around his neck. He wasn't a thin man, but he wasn't heavy either. It was just simply an old man with a small gut and rough looking facial features. Despite his hard expression, he was actually a very nice man. One of the good ones who has always tried to help her β despite what happened a few months ago where she had failed the exam that got her taken off the track team, she didn't have a problem with him. Besides, that was more her fault if anything because she was too stupid to understand the material.
Looking up from the papers laid out in front of him, he gave the girl a timid smile, his eyes holding nothing but pity and regret. "I heard about yesterday. How are you doing?"
The curly haired blonde had to bite down on her tongue to keep herself from saying something rude and sarcastic to the authority figure before her, knowing he was only trying to be nice as he always had. So, she bit her tongue, hard, and gave a stiff nod. "I'm okay. I just wish everyone would stop talking about it."
Mr. Healy chuckled to himself. "Yes, I know you are very defensive when others ask of your well being. But I'm sure everyone is just worried about you. You've been through a great trauma in your life, something not everyone here truly understands. I sure for one don't." Liz immediately looked down at the ground to avoid him noticing the pain in her eyes. Realizing he might be over stepping, he clears his throat, leaning back in his seat and folding his hands over his stomach. "Anyways, that is not why I stopped you. I'm actually here to talk about your grades."
"I did my homework, Mr. Healy. Look through that pile, you'll find mine." Liz immediately defended, pointing as the stack of paper on his desk from where he collected the homework early in the class.
"I believe you, Liz. I wanted to talk to you about getting you set up with another tutor. This is your second year taking my class and I want you to graduate with your class."
Liz rolled her eyes in annoyance. "We already tried the whole tutor thing, Mr. Healy. I'm a hopeless case."
"I don't believe in hopeless cases," Mr. Healy smiles. "I only believe in studying and hard work. Which is why I believe with the right tutor, even the most stubborn mind can figure out the the basic concepts of Algebra. Now, you do have study hall next, am I right?" The blonde took a moment before nodding her head stiffly. "Well, your new tutor will be waiting for you there, he too claims to have the same study hall as you and there you two will discuss other meetings for your future sessions."
Not even bothering to ask who this tutor was, Liz thinking she was going to find out as soon as she heads to the library, she gave her teacher one more skeptical look before sighing. "Let's hope this one knows what he's doing and has the patients of a freaking saint."
Β Β Β By the time she had gotten to the library, Liz almost turned on her heal when she discovered who would be her new tutor. She didn't even need to look around or ask if it was him, she just knew. The way his head shot up when she entered the library, his hand reaching out forward and waving her over. She was very tempted to go back to Mr. Healy and kill him for doing this to her.
Β Β Β Emmett Cullen. The other brother. The older brother. The stronger brother. The humble brother. There were many names for him, but the other brother seemed to stick out the most for Liz, as he was different than Edward and Jasper combined and not really someone who others paid any mind too. He wasn't brooding like the other two, nor did he look like he was in pain whenever he got close to someone outside his family. Hell, he might as well be the most normal one out of them all, the other four being so repressed it was ridiculous.
Making her way towards the table he had most likely been saving for the both of them, Liz drops her bag on the ground and slumps down onto the seat across from him. Emmett didn't hesitate to hold out his hand for the girl to shake, the curly haired blonde doing so consciously. "We haven't officially met. I'm Emmett Cullen, but you already knew that."
Liz gave a weak smile. "You and your family may have been a topic of discussion once or twice." Emmett couldn't help but let out a booming laugh.
Β Β Β "I guess your right."
Β Β Β "No offense or anything, but why exactly did you agree to be my tutor? You don't exactly scream 'math genius' to me," Liz asks the much larger boy, for which he once again grinned.
Β Β Β "According to Mr. Healy, I don't need to be a genius to tutor math. I just need to know more then you do," Emmett comments. Liz took moment as his words suck in before she felt a chuckle build inside her, laughing at his very accurate statement. Emmett joined her, the two laughing like idiots as others gave them strange looks.
Β Β Β "I'm not a very cooperative when it comes to this particular subject, you know?" Informs Liz, the two coming down from their laughing fit. "You will come to find I am very difficult person to teach."
Β Β Β "Mhmm, but difficult and impossible are two very different things." The other brother says with a large smirk, opening up their book. "Besides, all your former tutors didn't work out because they lacked one thing."
Β Β Β The curly haired blonde raised her thin brows in curiosity. "And what's that?"
Β Β Β If possible, his smirk got even wider. "They all weren't me."
><><><
Β Β Β ππ πππ πππ π ππππππ came to an end, the students from the field trip had just come back and Liz found herself making her way towards her locker. The little session with Emmett Cullen wasn't as bad as she had thought it would be, Liz actually finding the older boy to be more bearable then both his brothers combined. He was very goofy, always making a joke and trying to make Liz feel better whenever she didn't understand something by telling her something he doesn't understand. Like girls who love gossip, how black isn't considered a color but it is a color at the same time. How the bachelor chose Martha over Rachel last season, which sort of slipped out and Emmett quickly covered up with saying how Rosalie makes him watch it. Liz knew immediately that it was a lie.
Β Β Β The two agreed to meet up during study hall every day for tutoring sessions and also agreed that Emmett would come over to her place on Monday's after school to continue. At first, Liz wasn't exactly thrilled with taking these sessions home to her house, but Emmett did point out that if she had a chance of making it to her senior year and graduating with everyone, she was going to need to study... a lot.
Β Β Β She received a text from Bella saying that she needed to speak to her, something about Edward and apparently what he said during their little trip. It made Liz want to hurry to the girl as soon as possible, but first needed to grab her jacket from her locket, and put her books away that she doesn't need.
Β Β As she approached her locker in the east corner of the school, she notices something taped to the metal door. Frowning, Liz tucks her hair behind her ear, she reaches out and pulls it off her locker. It was a daffodil. A beautiful, bright yellow daffodil with a strong green stem attached to it. Looking around to see who ever done this was still around, but no one paid her any mind. Than suddenly, it came to her.
Β Β Β "Pick a flower for me, will you? Preferably a daffodil. Those are my favorite."
Β Β Β Liz couldn't help the smile that spread across her lips. Another thing Jasper Hale was on top of being arrogant, selfish, rude, and inconsiderate... he was definitely a charmer.
