๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ into the schools parking lot, almost every single head was turned her way, the loud engine that came from her 2000 Harley Davidson was definitely enough to catch everyone's attention. Everyone knew the sound of that motor, that came from a particular motorcycle for which everyone knew who the owner was, which was why all the students who stood in that parking lot watched as she parked said bike before dismounting it.
ย ย ย Liz hesitated, looking at all the stares she was receiving from the inside shade of her helmet, taking a moment to completely gather herself together before she pulled off it off, tucking it under her right arm. Her eyes scanned the lot, feeling her anxiety heightened and her stomach twist with nerves. Liz thought she prepared herself for this. Prepared for the sympathetic stares and the silent whispers... she knew it was inevitable in the rainy town of Forks. But preparing for it and actually living it were two very different things. Maybe she should of listened to Ester and took another day to prepare for this.
ย ย ย Oh well. Too late to turn back now.
ย ย ย Brushing a piece of her curly blonde hair from the front of her face, Liz inhaled deeply, grabbing her bag from the back and making her way towards the school. She tried her hardest to keep her head up, ignore the slight pain from her knee that caused her to limp with each step she took, the brace around it wasn't at all tight enough, seeing as it was slipping just a bit. Just as she was about to stopped to adjust it, a body came crashing into hers, arms tightly wrapping around her neck, almost tackling her to the ground. Luckily, Liz managed to catch herself, but that did not stop the pain that exploded from the pressure on her right knee or the sore muscles in her body, resulting in her hissing loudly from the pain. It's been almost two month, to think her muscles would of healed by now. That may just be wishful thinking on her part.
ย ย ย The person, who Liz had come to terms was Angela Weber, immediately stepped back and placed a hand over her mouth. "Oh my, god Liz, I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you?"
ย ย ย Liz bit down on her bottom lip, trying to swallow down the agonizing pain that came from when she had put pressure on her right leg to keep balanced, pushing passed that and forcing the first fake smile of the day onto her pale pink lips, the blonde finally replied. "Nope, no... I - uh... I'm good."
ย ย ย Angela looked distraught, Jessica rushing over beside the both of them but managed to hold back her urge to hug the blonde girl, after witnessing what had just happened. "Liz! Your back!" Jessica sounded truly surprised by this.
ย ย ย The blonde nodded, stiffly. "I'm back."
ย ย ย "Seriously, Liz, I'm sorry. I just didn't know you were coming back today and when I saw you pull up, I just couldn't help myself." Angela explains to her in a rush.
ย ย ย Angela Weber had been the first friend Liz had ever made when she started at the elementary school in the under-populated town in the first grade. Liz had been the new girl, at a brand new school were she didn't know a single soul, and she wasn't very good at making friends. She was a bit shy at the time, scared of saying the wrong thing that would embarrass her and have the other kids make fun of her. But Angela had also been a very shy kid, still is a bit shy to this day. She was the one to approach Liz, offering her a pencil box, seeing is how the small blonde didn't know she was supposed to bring one and Angela claiming she had another at home.
ย ย They've been friends ever since.
"It's alright, Ang." Liz reassured her. "Honestly, I didn't even know I was coming back today. I just woke up and decided that if I don't come back today, than I won't come back at all."
The two girls gave the blonde a sad look, Jessica nodding in understanding. "So, how are you doing? You look okay... are you okay?"
Liz raised her brow at the auburn haired girl, almost wondering if that was a serious question or not. She was definitely not okay. She has never been okay and she will probably never be okay ever again. "Gee, Jess, you tell me. My entire body is still so sore that it hurts when I'm hugged. I have to wear this stupid brace on my knee and will probably never run again. I won't get to go to USC, the school I've wanted to go to since I was ten years old. What else? Oh yeah, my fucking parents are dead. So, tell me Jess, do I seem 'okay' to you?"
Liz hated herself the second she stopped speaking. She cursed internally, wanting to pull her own hair out for what she just said. She immediately felt guilty, especially when Jessica looked like she was just punched in the face. Liz promised herself she wouldn't do this, she promised her sister she wouldn't do this. This morning, Ester specifically told her not to be to hostile towards anyone today. Liz had always had a tendency to be a bit more sarcastic and a little rude when she was annoyed or upset.
ย ย ย She knew Jessica didn't mean any harm, she was a bit ditzy and tended to forget little things, but she couldn't blame her for not knowing what to say. What do you say to a girl who has had her whole damn life flipped upside down in the matter of seconds? Hell, Liz is pretty sure if Angela or Jessica were in her shoes, she wouldn't know what to say either.
Looking like a beat down puppy, Liz took a deep breath, trying to calm her wrenching heart, before reaching out for the short girls hand. "Jess, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap like that."
ย ย ย "No, your right. That was such a stupid question," Jessica says, tightening her grip on the blondes hand. "I'm so sorry, Liz. I-I can't imagine what your going through."
ย ย ย "Neither of us can." Angela added.
ย ย ย Liz just sighed, not at all wanting to talk about this. "Can we please just change the subject?"
ย ย ย Change the subject... if only it were that easy.
ย ย ย The two girls agreed, both sticking close to their friend as they made their way towards the schools entrance. In a way, Liz wished she had stayed in bed today. Because trying to keep herself calm and keep from lashing out was already proven to be difficult as she was stared at with sympathetic looks when she past by almost every student in this small school. All she did was glare at them intensely, which was enough for them to turn away in fear.
"Oh my, God, did you hear?" Jessica, who had remained silent all the way until they reached Liz's locker, said with an excited smile. "We got a new student yesterday."
Liz looked down at the girl, furrowing her eyebrows together questionably. "Seriously?"
Angela was the one who nodded. "Seriously. Her name is Bella Swan, she's Chief Swan's kid. She moved here from Arizona."
ย ย ย "Although she doesn't look like it," Jessica pipes in. "She's very pale. Also very quiet, more so than Ang."
ย ย ย The dark haired girl glared at her friend. "I'm standing right here."
ย ย ย Liz ignored both their comments, honestly surprised by this information. New students were very rare in this school. Wonder why the sudden change now?
ย ย ย "Anyway, she is very awkward, but she seems nice enough," Jessica stated, brushing her hair back and turning to Angela. "She could definitely use a wardrobe change, though. Did you see her large, brown man jacket yesterday? That definitely needs to be burned."
ย ย ย Liz rolled her eyes, used to Jess being the kind of person who judged people on what they wore. She has a semi-rich daddy who spoils her so you can't entirely blame her for coming off as a snob, but she has one of the biggest hearts Liz has ever seen. She can be selfish, yes, but isn't everyone?
ย ย ย As the two girls continued on with their disagreements, Liz sort of tuned them out, something she was used to doing even before the accident. Jessica had a tendency to ramble on and on and Angela, even though is considered the quiet one, is always the one to feed into her rambling with her witty remarks. The blonde fell behind as the girls walked ahead, heading towards their first class of the day, which unfortunately for Liz, was Economics. She wasn't particularly fond of that class, but at least it was one of the few classes where she wasn't failing. Now Liz is far from dumb, but she isn't by any means the smartest tool in the shed.
ย ย ย Not watching where she was going, she found herself colliding with another body, but it felt more like a brick wall if anything. The books in her hands fell to the floor as she fell back, preparing herself to land flat on her ass when a pair of arms wrapped around her waist, holding her up and saving her from humiliation. Liz let out a gasp, an image flashing through her mind from the moment she grabbed the strangers arm who held her, both their skin touching slightly. It was blurry, she could see the bright blue sky and smoke that surrounded it. A loud, screeching noise that sounded like a car horn, before she felt like she was floating in the air, the image of a specific white Honda descending further and further as she floated away before her eyes closed again and she was back at the school, looking into the sharp, mesmerizing golden eyes of her savior.
After first, Liz didn't recognize the man who basically saved her from embarrassment on her first day back to school, it was like her mind went blank for an instant and all she could see was that image that completely took her by surprise. But when her eyes finally adjusted, she noticed that his golden eyes were familiar, probably because he was one out of five who she has ever seen with that particular eye color.
Jasper Hale.
ย ย ย Now Liz didn't really know much about the Cullen's/Hale's other than what went around the school when they first moved to Forks a couple years ago. They were adopted by the new doctor and his wife, they moved here from Alaska and they liked to keep to themselves, which according to everyone else, made them 'weird'. Liz never understood why, they probably just didn't like to socialize. It was understandable. Was it strange? Yes. Was it her's or anyone else's business? No.
Liz had always had some strange thing with Jasper Hale. And by 'strange thing', she means he hated her guts and she hasn't the slightest clue as to why. When they got paired in Chemistry last year, the mysterious golden eyed boy had asked the teacher if he could work alone, so she ended up being stuck with Mike Newton - one of her friends, if you can even call him that - and a nice boy named Larson Reed. It was nothing major, but still, it hurt because she was very nice towards him and his siblings. After that, Jasper transferred out of the class. At first, Liz was curious to what she had done to the guy, but when she thought about it, she realized she really didn't care. Liz knew she never did anything to him, so it was his problem to deal with. Even if it did bothered her just a little in the back of her mind, much to her dismay.
But as she stood there, being held up by his oddly cold arms, the image that flashed through her mind was so vivid that it sent a chill through her spine and confused her mind at the same time. Looking up, it was dead silent, the chatter of the other students in the halls all faded as they stared intensely into each other's eyes, Liz's heart racing a mile a minute. After what felt like forever, Jasper slowly removed his arms, both blondes gaining composer as he said, "My apologies, Liz."
ย ย ย The bright blonde haired girl was stunned, this probably being the first time he has ever spoken to her and wasn't glaring at her. His voice was deep, his thick Texan accent definitely seeping through as he spoke, very proper. Liz couldn't help but stutter out her next words. "W-Why are you apologizing? It was my fault."
ย ย ย If it was possible, his gaze on her grew deeper, his face showed no amusement and everything about him was serious. "No, it wasn't." He stated firmly. For some reason, it sounded like he wasn't really referring to their little run in, but than Liz thought about it and wasn't sure what else he could be referring too. "See you later, Liz."
ย ย ย With that, Jasper walked towards his sister Rosalie, who was waiting for him by the classroom. When he disappeared into the classroom, Rosalie Hale made sure to give the Chambers' girl a hard glare before following in after her brother.
ย ย ย What the hell just happened?

๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ passed by in almost a blur. Taking Astronomy was not Liz's first choice but seeing is how she needed another elective and the fact that Angela said that she would be taking the same class was enough for the curly haired blonde to suffer through it. Was it boring? Yes. Did it help that she didn't understand what was going on in there? No.
Math was the worst, basically because it is the most difficult subject she has to take. It wasn't like she was stuck in Trig or Calculus like most of the juniors in her class, which she was internally grateful for. She doesn't even know how she made it to Algebra II, she barely passed Algebra I or even Geometry. Everyone said Geometry is the easiest class you can take. Fucking liars. PE was the worse out of it all. It actually used to be her favorite class, basically because Liz has always been the more athletic than she was book smart. She used to play softball for a while, than Volleyball and than soccer. But running track was her main sport, for which was another thing taken from her after the accident. The doctors said that she had fractured her Anterior cruciate ligaments in her right knee, better known as ACL. It wasn't anything serious that involved surgery, but if she continued to run she could do more damage in the near future.
It's why she would love nothing more than to throw this brace into the fire, watch it burn, than go try to break her own record for a mile run. One of the many things that used to give her peace was taken from her and there was nothing she could do about it.
ย ย ย So Liz spent the entire Gym class sitting on a bench, reading a book. It sucked because Liz wasn't much of a reader, only ever reads fiction books like Stephan King or the Harry Potter series, something for which she favored a lot. She hated this. She wasn't the type of person to sit around all day doing nothing. Liz is a very active person and was always on the move, so sitting back and watching as everyone played a game of basketball was sort of dreadful for the curly haired blonde.
ย ย ย As Liz made her way towards the cafeteria, she had reached the point where she was so irritated with just about everything she was on the verge of screaming. From all the stares, to all the 'sorry for your loss' crap, to the gossip and the whispers about how she was one out of two of the survivors from the Highway 19 crash, than to not being able to participate in gym anymore or run track... everything was just becoming too much for her to bare. It was why as soon as the blonde walked into the cafeteria, she nearly turned right back around when Tyler Crowley - one out of five of her group of friends, the people who she has been avoiding most of day thanks to their different schedules in the morning - called out to her so loudly it resulted in multiple heads to turn her way.
The scream was forming, she could feel it in the back of her throat. Liz had to bit her tongue - hard - to repress it. Fighting the urge to turn around, Liz kept her head down and advanced towards the table, making sure to send the Crowley boy a glare before doing so, for which he frowned in confusion. "What?"
"Your such a idiot, Tyler." Jessica was the one to speak up, rolling her eyes as the boy sat back down, Liz sitting next to him and a brunette girl who she has never seen before. This must be the new girl Jessica and Angela were talking about earlier. Jessica was right, she was indeed very pale, like the rest of the residence in Forks, Washington. She had long, wavy brown hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. She was pretty, which probably made her a target for most of the boys in this school. They weren't used to new students so the fact that she had decently good looks didn't help her case at all.
"There she is, my favorite Chambers sister!" Mike's voice boomed, his laugh sounded like annoying cackle when it escaped his lips. "You still look amazing." The blonde sent him a look, for which he faltered over his words in a nervous manner. "I mean you've always looked amazing. Not that you wouldn't look amazing, because your beautiful. I'm just saying even with the scars on your forehead and- ow!"
ย ย Surprisingly, Eric had been the one to knock Mike up side his head, for which the dirty haired blonde glared at his Asian friend, Eric shaking his head in almost a warning. Liz just gritted her teeth, looking over at the Newton boy with a dead stare. "Mike, shut up. Before I make you."
ย ย The Newton boy nodded stiffly. "Noted."
ย ย ย "So, Liz, this is Bella Swan." Angela spoke up, trying her best to change the subject and break the tension, knowing full well Liz will not hesitate to shut Mike up like she promised. "Bella, this is Elizabeth Chambers. But she's like you and hates it when people call her by her full name. So it's just Liz." Liz looked over at the average looking new girl, taking in her appearance once again for good measure. She was quiet, Liz could tell. Seemed a little awkward if anything, but so was Liz at times so she didn't judge her for that.
ย ย ย Hoping to push past the horrible day she was having, Liz forced herself to smile at girl, nodding in acknowledgment. "Nice to meet you, Bella."
ย ย ย The brunette returned the gesture. "You too. I like your bracelet." Liz looked down at her wrist at her silver charm bracelet that she has had since she was a child. It was filled with different Disney charms because she was a huge Disney Movie freak. The story behind how she got this was bittersweet, but she just doesn't have the heart to take it off. She's worn it for almost ten years now, she'd feel naked taking it off just because she had a problem with the person who gave it to her.
ย ย ย Thinking past it, Liz held it out, examining them herself. "Thanks. I've always been a big Disney freak."
ย ย ย "That's true," Jessica jumped in, wanting to keep the conversation going. "Liz dressed up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast almost every year for Halloween when we were kids."
ย ย ย Hearing this caused a small chuckle to escape the blonde girls lips. "Yeah, I still would if I could. She's always been my favorite."
ย ย Bella nodded in agreement. "Mine too."
ย ย ย The conversation dropped as Eric and Tyler started talking about their English Lit paper that is due tomorrow and how neither of them worked on it. Liz started tuning them out after they both started begging Angela to help them. And by help, they mean write it for them. The thing is Angela has done it in the past, but only for Eric because she has always had this massive crush on the boy who was completely oblivious to it, but that might be because his attention span is worse that an animal.
ย ย ย Liz than turned to Bella, who seemed to be picking at her food while also glancing over her shoulder every so often. Curious, Liz turned to see what she could possibly be looking for, only to see the only people possible. The Cullen's.
ย ย ย Weirdly though, it seems they were short a Cullen, as a certain bronze haired boy that went by the name Edward was no where to be seen. It was weird, seeing his family there and the one being MIA. Liz doesn't think she has ever seen them separated before when they are not in class, but that might be for her silent agreement not to pay them any mind after the whole thing with Jasper Hale. She didn't need to worry herself with people who can be that disrespectful and rude towards someone they don't know without a reason. She made it her mission to ignore them, avoid gossip about them, which has always proven to be a challenge with Jessica's fascination with the one who is currently M.I.A.
ย ย ย But now, as Liz looked back at the group, the light haired blonde couldn't stop herself as her eyes trailed towards the one with golden blonde hair that had always seemed to match his eyes. Another thing that always bothered her to no end, was that family's strange eye color choice. It was obvious that they were wearing contacts, they had to be. They were not related, beside Rosalie and Jasper who were supposedly twins, so they all couldn't just magically have the same strange eye color like they do. It was definitely a symbol or something to prove that they were a family and that they did stand out.
ย ย ย Liz's mind trailed to this morning when she had her run in with Jasper in the halls, how that flash of the accident immediately crossed in her mind, like his touch had brought her back to that accident sight. It may have been blurry, but Liz definitely knew what that scene was seeing as it was drilled into her brain for all eternity, even if she didn't want it to be.
Liz looked back at Bella, a brow raised at the brunette. Bella, who noticed she had just been caught, turned around and focused on her salad. "Looking for anyone in particular?"
"Um, n-no. Not really," Bella stumbles over her words. Liz watched her curiously, for which the brunette sighed, caving in almost immediately. "I just thought Edward would be here. I need to talk to him."
The two girls were speaking in such a low tone, the others were oblivious to it, but that's just because they didn't know what to say to Liz that wouldn't make her snap at them more than she already has. Liz was surprised, however, to hear this. Bella actually wanted to talk to Edward Cullen? Why? "Listen, I know it's your second day so I'm gonna give you a piece of advice. You don't exactly talk to the Cullen's, not unless they want you too. And if this is just some weird crush you have on the guy, than your wasting your time, girl."
Bella shook her head frantically. "No, that's not- it's not like that. Yesterday, Edward... he was acting very strange in Biology class. I had to sit next to him and he was acting like I smelled or something. Wouldn't even look at me. Than when I went to turn my sign slip into the office, I found him trying to switch classes."
To say Liz was surprised would be an understatement. Everything this girl was saying sounded way to familiar. Acting like a total ass for no reason, trying to change his class... it was just like her first experience with Jasper. Except he actually managed to get out of the class, where Liz was assuming Edward did not. "Don't take it too personally. I had the same thing happen to me with one of his brothers. Asshole refused to work with me and than switched his class, didn't even matter we still had PE together."
"Didn't that bother you? Didn't you want to know what his problem was?" Bella questioned curiously.
"Why should I?" Liz replied. "It was his problem. I've never talked to the guy before and he's gonna decide he doesn't like me before he got the chance to know me? It's his loss."
Bella didn't reply at first, just continued to eat her salad while glancing over her shoulder ever so often. Liz tried to get into the conversation among the group, which apparently was the fact that Jessica wanted to see The Notebook again while Eric wanted to watch Rocky II. It apparently was Tuesday, which usually meant movie night at Angela's. Normally Liz would be arguing over the movie choice as well, but she doesn't think she was going to go, not really remembering the last time she sat down and actually watched a movie.
"Was it Jasper?"
The blonde turned to the sudden voice, looking to see Bella who had leaned over to whisper in her ear. She frowned, a bit confused by what she was talking about but than remembered their conversation not even three minutes ago. "Uh, yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Because he won't stop staring at you." Surprised, the blonde turned around and surely enough, her light blue eyes locked with a certain golden pair who was staring intensely at her. Now this isn't the first time she has caught Jasper Hale staring at her during lunch or even in the parking lot, but normally he was always very stiff and looked very irritated. Like her presence was a bother to him. But this time, just like in the hallway, his eyes were softened but his expression was the same as always. Blank.
ย ย ย All Liz could do was stare back. It was like she was in a trance, like they were the only two people who were left in the room. Scratch that, it was like they were the only two left in this world. It frightened the young blonde how entranced she was with the boy across the cafeteria. Thinking back to all the days where she used to catch him staring at her, it has never really been this intense before. Normally, Jasper did everything to avoid her. Made sure not to sit next to her in class again, and if he did he would either convince the teacher to move or transfer out of the class. All that time Liz has spent trying to convince herself she didn't care what he thought of her, or that his very rude rejection before even being introduced to her actually made her a little upset. It worked... for a while, she managed not to give a rats ass about the Cullen's/Hale's. They were assholes, no changing who they were. But now all Liz wanted was to go over there and figure out what his deal was.
ย ย ย Liz watched as Alice, the smallest of the bunch, leaned in and whispered something into the Jasper's ear, something for which he replied, taking his eyes off the Chambers girl for a very brief second before looking back up, this time, a smirk was dancing on his lips. Liz's face burned suddenly, immediately turning back in her seat, putting her head down. Bella seemed to be the only one who cared or noticed what just happened, looking down at the blonde next to her curiously.
><><><
ย ย ย ย ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ of the day just so happened to be Liz's second favorite. Honors World History. It was her favorite for two reasons... one, it was the only class beside PE that she liked and was actually good at. Two, it was her first class that had the word 'Honors' in front of it instead of 'Pre-'. Meaning it wasn't the lowest and easiest class she had to take. It sounds silly, but Liz likes to think of herself as an History buff just because she was actually pretty good at it.
ย ย ย Walking into the class, the young blonde still could not believe that people were still staring and whispering about her. It was like they had nothing better to do with their lives than gossip about a girl who survived a massive pile up. Okay, that may be the main reason why they were, but still, it was really irritating. Sometimes Liz forgets that she is the only one who feels like a persons business is their own, where as everyone else in this school are nosy little bastards.
ย ย ย "Elizabeth!" The sound of her teachers voice boomed in excitement as she noticed the curly haired blonde girl who walked into the classroom for the first time in nearly a month. Mrs. Taylor was one of those teachers that was very preppy and over the top on a lot, she was also very understanding but she didn't take crap from other students. Liz doesn't have anything against the woman, minus the fact that she calls her by her full name. Mrs. Taylor just has something about nicknames... she just does not like them. "Welcome back. You look wonderful, sweetheart." She paused, looking down at one of her favorite students with sorrow in her eyes. "I am so sorry about your parents dear. Truly, I am."
ย ย ย "Thank you, Mrs. Taylor." The youngest Chambers girl said dryly through gritted teeth. It seems Liz isn't as good as scaring the teachers into shutting up about the accident and her parents as she is with the students. All she has to do is send the a look that told them everything they needed to know. 'You mention it, I'll break your face. No questions.'
ย ย ย ย "Um, as you can probably tell, we have switched seats since the last time you've been here. I know, I know. I'm one of those teachers." The older woman laughed, but when she noticed the student before her was not all amused, she simply cleared her throat. "Well, the only available seat is next to Jasper. I know you've been keeping up with the work while you were.. away, so you should know where we are."
ย ย ย As Mrs. Taylor went back to her desk, Liz stood in the same spot in confusion by what she said. Funny, it was almost like she said Jasper-ย she thought to herself before her eyes widened, turning to scan the class, only to find the certain Hale who has seemed to pop up more today than she ever thought possible sitting in the back of the classroom. For the third time today, he seemed to meet her gaze and for the third time today, a smirk was settled on his lips. Not his normal scowl like she has gotten used to over the years. His brows were not furrowed, nor was his eyes squinted in a hard gaze. She has never really seen Jasper Hale so... relaxed? He was known as the Cullen freak who looked like he was always in pain. He still has that look in his eyes, but they weren't as bad as she was used to seeing.
ย ย ย It was different. It was nice.
ย ย ย Seeing is how she didn't really have much of a choice, she made her way down to the back, where she took the last seat that was near the window, Jasper being on her right and a student who she knew as Lucy on her left. Liz tried not to spare the Hale boy any attention, this day being too much for her to handle as it was. She just needed to get through this class, and she was smooth sailing from there.
ย ย ย Unfortunately, that was never the case. Things never worked out the way she wanted, especially when she found herself looking over at the pale skinned boy next to her. Since this morning, it has been nothing but a roller coaster of questions whenever she was around this guy. Like, seriously? What was his problem? Liz doesn't even remember him being in this class... or was he? The young girl has basically been in a daze for months now she can't even remember what she had for breakfast this morning.
ย ย ย Suddenly, she felt the familiar sharp pain between her eye lids. It was a side affect from the accident that happens every so often. Sometimes the headaches can last hours, maybe even a full day, but normally just a small pain occurs in between her eyes here and there, with the occasional dizzy spells but those hardly ever happen. Thankfully, this was just one of the pains, which took her by surprised as she let out a wince before pinching the bridge of her nose, trying to breathe through the pain. Just another reminder that things were only going to get worse from here on out.
Feeling the heated gaze of the golden eyed boy beside her, all Liz's anger and frustration had piled up so bad that she couldn't take the constant stares anymore, snapping her head over at him, squinting her eyes, seeing is how the pain was still pulsing between her light crystal blue eyes. "Jesus Christ, Hale. What's with all the fucking staring? Do I have something on my face?"
Jasper was a bit taken back, not expecting her to snap like this. Actually, that was a lie. He did expect her to snap, he could sense it. Her fidgeting hands, the way she glared at anyone who even attempted to mention the accident to her, or the fact that she even thought she hides it well, she looked like she was about to burst into tears when Mrs. Taylor brought up her parents. No one else could tell, but he could. She may have some affect with his abilities for reasons he can't quite understand, but he's gotten to know Liz from a distance over the past two years. He has been very good with picking up her body language, especially when she was upset or angry. If she was angry, she wasn't afraid to tell you why she was pissed off. But if she was upset, she would bottle it up because she doesn't think it was anyone's business. It's one of the many things he found so fascinating about the human girl beside him.
ย ย ย Despite her outburst, Jasper kept a straight face, trying not to act too phased it. "No, you do not have anything on your face." Liz rolled her eyes, turning back into her chair as she pinched the bridge of her nose again, squeezing her eyes shut to drown out the pain. "I apologize if my staring bothered you."
ย ย ย The blonde didn't react right away; instead, she gripped the edge of her seat as the pain finally started to ease up. Blinking rapidly, Liz took a moment before finally turning to the other blonde beside her, her face softening just a bit before replying. "It's whatever. You'd think I would be used to it by now. Guess not."
ย ย ย "You don't have to get used to anything, Liz." For some reason, Liz saw red.
ย ย ย "What the hell do you know about it? That's right, nothing!" She snapped in a harsh whisper, trying not to interrupt Mrs. Taylor's current lecture, something for which she hadn't been paying any attention too.
ย ย ย "I don't? You mean to tell me that I don't know anything about being stared at 24/7?" Jasper challenged with a raised brow. "Are you sure about that?"
ย ย ย No. She wasn't. He was right, Liz knew this. Jasper and his family have been the main target for basically two years since they moved here with gossip and being gawked at. It was nothing new to them, but it was new to Liz. She moved here when she was six, only starting the first grade. At the time, kids didn't really care about new students, even if it was rare. It was easier for her, she grew up here. She may have been born in South Carolina but Forks, Washington was her home.
ย ย ย Instead of answering his question, Liz simply shook her head, scoffing in annoyance. "What's your deal, dude? Like, you have spent the past two years ignoring me. You transferred out of every class we had together, and you always took it upon yourself to glare at me like I set your house on fire. Now here you are, in a class I distinctly don't ever remember you having, going out of your way to talk to me. What? Are you bipolar or something? On some strange drug that makes you go from being a complete dick to a somewhat decent guy in seconds? Tell me, please, so I can understand and keep up."
ย ย ย "Elizabeth," Mrs. Taylor interrupted before Jasper got the chance to respond. "I'm sorry but is my teaching interrupting your conversation?"
ย ย ย It's back. The urge to scream. The urge to burst. The urge to shout to the high heavens and cry out in agony over the anger she was feeling. She is feeling so many emotions right now that her heart felt like it was going to explode. BOOM! Just like the red Toyota on the Highway. Before the Volkswagen, and before the white Honda. That is exactly how she felt right now, like she was about to burst any moment.
ย ย ย But she didn't. She couldn't. She can't.
ย ย ย "If you ever feel like you need to scream, if you can't let it out in that particular moment, just count backwards from ten, take a deep breath and remember who you are. Only you can define yourself, only you can push yourself over the edge before you feel like screaming. Although it helps let the angry out, it doesn't stop the pain."
ย ย ย The wise words of her therapist back in California replays in the blondes mind, doing exactly what he said and counting backwards from ten, letting out a deep breath once she was done. "No. I'm sorry, Mrs. Taylor."
ย ย ย "Alright, now lets get back to work-" and with that, she continued on with her lecture, as Liz sunk back into her chair, covering the side of her face with her hand as she tries to calm herself down.
ย ย ย Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. Breathe. Repeat.
Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. Breathe. Breathe.
ย ย ย "Liz." Once again, the blonde found herself sucking in a breath, slowly turning, her crystal blue eyes landing on the Hale boy next to her, purposely avoiding eye contact, seeing is how that is always how things seem to go haywire. "I am sorry."
Liz just shook her head. "What are you apologizing for? Being a dick? For having a staring problem? For being too proper that it makes me want to strangle you?"
The Hale boy couldn't help the chuckle that escaped his lips from her words, shaking his head in disbelief. She was too honest for her own good. "I am sorry... for everything."
For some reason, it seems he was apologizing for more than just the things she had listed before. That was the second time today. And for some strange reason, she believed him.
