𝔵𝔦𝔵. First Date
CHAPTER NINETEEN
FIRST DATE
In the year: 1951
"THEA you're freaking out."
No shit. Thea was seconds away from jumping off a cliff.
A date! Alice asked her on a date! "She asked me on a date?" Thea frowns at Rosalie.
Rosalie and Emmett share a confused look, "why are you saying that like a question?"
"Because I don't know what's going on!" Thea covers her face and groans.
For the past five months, Thea and Alice have been taking things slow. They've gotten to a point where they would talk every night, hug and sometimes hold hands.
Thea felt horrible, she thought that Alice may think she didn't want to be with her, but that's not the case.
Thea liked Alice, but this was also very new to her. And god knows how Thea gets when she gets around something she isn't used to.
"You two are gonna kiss and go mwah mwah mwah." Emmett puckers his lips.
Thea was quick to throw a pillow at him.
Rosalie tries covering her laugh with a grin, "Thea, do you like her?"
"Of course I do." Thea was quick to answer.
"Does she like you?"
"I hope so." Thea blinks.
Rosalie laughs, "Then the date will go great, it always does. Now let's get you ready, shall we?"
✸
Besides a therapist, Carmilla was also a friend...and now apparently, she's a fashion designer.
"Alice said dress casual and you're trying to put Thea in hills?" Rosalie stared blankly at Carmilla.
"Alice said dress casual." Carmilla snorts, "That's new." Thea nods in agreement.
"Wherever we're going, she said dressing up isn't necessary." She explained that Carmilla finished her last curl.
"Okay, fine." Carmilla goes into the large wardrobe she'd created over the years. She pulls out a summer jumpsuit, "here, wear this. I have some white sneakers to go along with it." She places it on her bed.
Thea was quiet, lost in thought. Rosalie snaps her finger in front of Thea's face. "You okay?"
"...I'm nervous."
Carmilla raises her brows, "Thea The Great is nervous? Never thought I would see the day."
Thea rolls her eyes playfully, smiling, "Shut up."
Carmilla shrugs, "Trust me. You'll be fine." Carmilla felt as if she was talking to herself when she was a young vampire.
Once they'd finished trying to get Thea out of her head, she got ready. The outfit looked amazing on Thea and she had long wavy hair to match.
"Take this." Carmilla gives Thea her lipgloss, smirking, "Just in case it comes off for any reason."
Thea squints but doesn't say anything. Just as she put it in her pocket, there was a knock at the door.
Thea opens the door, seeing a familiar pixie looking as beautiful as ever. One thing Alice knew how to do, was look good.
And damn, she looked good in a summer dress.
"You look beautiful," Alice spoke softly to Thea, who smiled shyly.
"So do you."
"You two have a great night." Rosalie leans on the door as she slowly pushes Thea out and it soon closes in their face.
Alice turns her attention back to her mate, pulling a single Lilly flower from behind her back, "I thought about getting you a full set but then I thought it might be too much, so I just stuck with one. Is that okay?" Alice laughs nervously.
Thea smiled, admiring the pixie for a quick second, "more than okay." She accepts the Lilly. Alice holds out her hand for Thea to grab and Thea laces her fingers in hers.
And this was just the start of a very memorable night.
✸
"I know how much you hate public places." Alice leads Thea further into the forest, "So I thought I would do this at a place I knew you would love."
Thea grew curious, she knew this path. "Our lake?"
"Our lake?" Alice raises a brow at her choice of words.
Thea seals her lips, "sorry—"
"No, I love it." Alice giggles, continuing to lead her.
Thea watches as lights illuminate the darkness. Hanging lights hung from the trees, making the vampire's golden eye glow beautifully. "Oh my god." Thea takes in the scenery. Candles were lit around a wide blanket and pillows.
"Is that good or bad?" Alice examines the vampire's face, hoping to figure it out.
Thea looks down at the pixie. She'd always had dreams of this as a human.
She dreamt of being seen. She dreamt of being known.
And Alice saw her.
"You're doing that thing."
"Sorry?" Thea frowns.
"You've got that...look...in your eyes." Alice struggles to find the word to describe it.
Thea raises her brows, "oops."
Alice shakes it off, leading her to the blanket so they could sit.
The women stayed talking for hours about completely different things. Thea would usually be done socializing by now, but she couldn't get enough of Alice.
They both lay on their backs, hands clasped together. "Can I ask you something?" Alice wonders. Thea responds with a hum, her eyes closed. "If you could be human again, would you?"
Thea snaps her eyes open.
"I..." Thea thinks, "I don't know...I think about my human life and I kind of...shut down at the thought."
" I think of my life now and all the things I lost because of this life." Thea looks over the pixie at her next words, "But I also think of the things I've gained and it's the only thing that makes this life a lot more bearable."
"Would you?" Thea asks her mate.
Alice chuckles, shrugging, "I wonder what my human life was like, so sometimes I imagine a human life but...this life is...pretty nice when you have others to spend it with."
There was a nice comfortable silence between the two and Thea looked around, seeing two jars. "What is this for?"
Alice looked confused but her face soon lit up when she realized what Thea meant, "I almost forgot!" She quickly stood.
Thea looks up at her, "What's wrong?"
"We have to catch fireflies!" Alice helps Thea up, "They're everywhere during this time of the year."
Thea looked around the forest and Alice was correct. The small insects lit up the darkness with their green light every few seconds, but Thea was so focused on Alice, that she didn't notice.
Alice grabbed one jar and Thea grabbed the other. "We're vampires so this shouldn't be very hard."
Thirty minutes passed and Alice had two while Thea had three. "Why is this so hard?!" Alice rolls her eyes and Thea laughs at her mate's frustration.
Alice looks around. "Look!" Around three fireflies seemed to be hurdled up near the tree Thea always sat on above the lake and Alice was quick to jump up on the branch.
Thea frowns, "Alice, that doesn't seem like a good idea."
"It'll be fine." Alice focused on the fireflies that were inches away from her reach.
Thea shakes her head. She follows her mate on the branch, "Alice, you're gonna fall if you keep reaching out like that." She grabs her waist to pull her back.
Alice was now balancing on one foot. Her arms at their full reach, "I've got this." Alice uses all her flexibility to reach the fireflies.
That's when everything fell apart.
Alice lost her balance, falling right into the pond. And since Thea had her hands on Alice's waist for support, she went falling as well.
Their bodies were submerged in water and when they returned to the surface, Thea slowly spit out the water in her mouth. "Please, tell me you got them." Thea looks towards Alice.
"I think the jar broke," Alice confesses, "I lost them all."
Thea blinked the water out of her eyes as a silence took over. When both their stunned eyes met, laughs filled the air.
"I told you it was a bad idea." Thea grins.
"I thought I had it." Alice slaps the water.
Thea shakes her head, "You didn't." She chuckles
Alice got quiet before smiling some more. Alice splashed water on Thea, making her mouth drop open. "Hey!"
Alice wore an innocent smile, "Sorry, I get a little clumsy sometimes."
Thea tilts her head, "is that so?" Thea splashed water right back.
Alice squeals, and quickly returns the favor before a battle begins between the two in the lake.
Thea raises her hands, "Okay, it's getting in my eyes!"
"It's okay to admit that maybe you're just a sore loser." Alice clenched her teeth and raised her brows.
"I'm no loser." Thea wipes the water off her lashes. And when she finally got clearer vision, she realized how close they were to each other. Alice's eyes still glowed because of the lights in the trees and it had Thea in awe.
Alice grins, "You're doing it again."
Thea tilts her head, "Doing what?"
"That look."
Thea was quick to look down at the water but Alice placed her finger under Thea's chin to connect their eyes again. Their noses grazed against one another.
Thea tried breaking the tension in the air, "...you make me very nervous, Mary Alice Brandon."
Alice smiles slightly, "so do you, Thea McCarty."
Their eyes wouldn't move away from one another. Alice inched even closer. "Can I kiss you?" She uttered so lightly under her breath, that Thea almost didn't understand it.
Thea's eyes were soft, she felt vulnerable for once in a long time. But she loved it, she loved this. Thea nods her head, unable to speak.
Their lips graze against each other and they both feel a spark. When their lips finally connect, Thea melts into the kiss. They both felt tenderness and vulnerability. Thea's body surged with bliss, her head was in the clouds.
Their lips break apart and their foreheads stay against one another. The only noise was the sound of their bodies shifting in the water.
They lock eyes and they instantly beam with happiness. Thea closed her eyes again, god she was so nervous, "Alice..."
"I know." Alice nods, she already knows. So instead of talking, she connects their lips again, and Thea hums at the electric feel that runs through her body.
Thea wanted this feeling to never go away.
