HEATHER CABRERA BRUSHED HER brown chestnutย  locks that ran right below her shoulder, a wide ecstatic smile plastered onto her face. Her smiles were bright enough to melt the frigid frost that was hugging the glass on a windowpane during a regular winter day.

The sixteen-year-old was moving back into her childhood hometown and the teen was more than enraptured to see her old friendsโ€”however, there was one specific person that Thea was dreading to see.

Johnny Lawrence.

Thea hasn't seen the blonde-haired boy ever since she was ten years old and to say she hated him was an understatement.ย  As kids, Johnny's browbeating and habitually cruel personality was deeply seared into Thea's head, leaving her with the memory of him being nothing else but aย  brutal bully.

But Thea was hoping that Johnny changed and she assumed he modified his childhood personality into a mature sweet young man.

Thea was currently slicing open the brown cardboard boxes that were holding her belongings back in Boston and her Walkman was attached to the waistband of her denim jeans. She was listening to Elton John through her headphones, softly humming the melodious sound that was coursing through her ears.

But Thea was so into her music, she didn't even realize her brother was standing in the doorway with his Pentax MX camera in his hand. He slowly pressed the shutter button, definitely using this picture for potential blackmail preferences in the future.

"Jesus, Tony, you're going to give me a heart attack. Get the hell out of my room!" Thea playfully yelled as she threw her hot pink pillow that had fringes on it, hitting Tony straight in the face. She heard an 'oomph' sound escaping her brother's lips and she smirked in victory.

"Mom! Thea hit me," Tony said in an overexaggerated child's voice, attempting to get his younger sister in trouble. As a child, Tony's mother passed away giving birth to him, and Jim was barely holding onto life until he met Eleanor, Thea's mom. Tony considered Eleanor as his mother and despite the absence of his dad, he still cared deeply about the relationship of his family.

"I should have left you two back in Boston," Eleanor said with and exasperated sigh, smacking the back of her children's heads gently, walking by before grabbing more boxes from the truck.

"Yes, Mom, you should have. I'm really not looking forward to seeing 'you know who.'" Eleanor and Tony knew precisely who Thea was talking about.

"Thea come on, that was literally ages ago. I'm sure Johnny is a better person now." Thea scoffed at her brother and continued to unpack her electronics that were securely wrapped in bubble wrapping. Thea gave her brother the bubble wrap, knowing how he likes to pop them, and continued to take out her fragile electronics.

"Trust me, Tony. Johnny is...he has that personality that seems he would consistently stick with it throughout his life, you know what I mean?"

"What? No, sorry, I was too busy popping this bubble wrap instead of listening to your annoying voice." Thea dramatically smacked her hand against her heart, mocking fake pain, and glared at her brother before grabbing her teddy bear plushie and running with it in her hand, chasing her brother down the stairs.

They both were growing teenagers, yes, but that didn't stop them from letting out their inner childish personality whenever the timing was appropriate.

Tony sprinted down the stairs, attempting to run away from his sister, but Thea had the advantage with the stairs as she slid down the railing effortlessly, catching her brother off guard. She did a flip in the air, landing on the beige carpet, and stood up, blocking her brother and smiling in victory.

"That's not fair, you're literally a gymnast and you took a few lessons of karate before we left."

" You know I only took karate to protect myself from 'you know who,'" Thea said, reminiscing on the bad memories back in Boston, but she quickly went back to the main subject.

"Also, thatย  means I'm the cooler sibling. I'm kidding, you're kinda amazing too with your photography." Tony smiled and gave his sister a gentle peck on the top of her head before examining the camera in his hands.

"Thanks, sis. I actually got in touch with this other guy that does some rad photography too. He lives in this small city called Hawkins. It's in Indiana."

"Wow, that's amazing, Tony. Remember me when you're famous." Thea smiled at her brother and she knew instantly that he wasn't going to give her a serious remark.

"Nah, I'm totally going to forget about you." Thea flipped her brother off and punched him lightly in the arm, but he still winced out in pain, making Thea furrow her eyebrows.

"What? I didn't even hit you that hard."

"Thea, your 'gentle' punches are actually more powerful than you think. You should join this one karate dojo I saw when we drove by our house. I think it was called Cobra Kai?"ย  Thea nodded her head, thinking about it, hoping she could join another karate dojo since she missed the one back in Boston.

"Yeah. I'll see if I have time."

For the next few hours, Thea helped her mom and brother unpack their luggage. She decided it was appropriate for a break, the sweat from her forehead, slowly dripping down as she was getting tired from all the walking she had to do from going in and out of the house.

Her rainbow striped sweater was hugging her body tightly and her loosely fit denim jeans were accented perfectly with her Nike Cortez sneakers. Thea went out the door and grabbed the keys to the 1967 Chevy Impala that he dad gave her for her sixteenth birthday.

Even though Thea's father was absent for most of her life, he said he wanted to change for the better, but his promises were inconsistent and Thea knew better than to keep her hopes up that her father would come around again.

Thea found her way to a small coffee shop in Downtown Los Angeles and decided to buy a drink, thinking she deserved it after a long hard working day. Thea stayed there for an hour and before her mother could get worried, she fumbled for the car keys in her pants and walked out the door, not looking up.

With Thea not paying attention, she didn't realize that there was a group of boys walking in the entrance of the coffee shop and she accidentally bumped into one of the boys, both of their bodies crashing onto one another.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry, are you okay? I should've been watching where I was going."

"Oh, please that was all my fault. I shouldn't have been looking down while looking for my keys," Thea said, laughing nervously. She looked at the boy in front of her and noticed his dirty blonde bangs, his soft brown doe eyes staring into hers.

"I'm Bobby by the way." The boy stuck out his hand and Thea gladly shook it, already loving Bobby's cheerful personality.

"I'm Heather, but my friends call me Thea."

"Does that mean I have the honor to get the privilege to call you Thea then?" Bobby had a sly smirk on his face and Thea blushed at the boy.

"Yes, I suppose it does."ย

"Hey, Bobby, who are you talking toโ€”"

Thea recognized that voice from anywhere. It certainly was more mature compared to the last time she heard it, but that voice was very distinct to Thea, there was no way she could miss who it was.

"Johnny?" The blonde boy swiftly whipped his head, wondering who would be calling his name. He had his tough boy demeanor but that instantly went away when he immediately recognized the girl in front of her.

"Teddy? Is that you? I thought you moved to Boston?"

"Been keeping tabs on me, Lawrence?" Thea said in a voice filled with amusement. Her heart skipped at the nickname only Johnny called her back when they were kids. That name was filled with childhood memories, but also traumatizing ones, not sure which one it would correlate with.

"I mean I was kinda sad when you left me," Johnny said barely above a whisper, but Thea heard it clearly. Thea smiled, seeing how Johnny's personality changed and she let out a sigh of relief, her worst fear being pushed away as she is confronting it right now.

"You're definitely taller now, Johnny. Don't know about your face though, it still seems as ugly as when we were kids," Thea teased, making Johnny smile in amusement from her sarcasm. Johnny was scanning Thea up and down, tracing every inch of her body, seeing that she definitely changed as well.

"Um, you gonna introduce us to your friend, Johnny?" The blonde boy got out of his trance from staring at Thea and turned to the boys.ย

"Guys, this is Thea, but only I get to call her Teddy. Consider it old friend privileges." Johnny smirked while looking down at the girl. "But this is Tommy, Jimmy, you already know Bobby and Dutch."

"Well aren't you a cute little thing," Dutch said, flirtatiousness laced in his eyes. Thea was flattered by the boy but wasn't interested. She looked up for a split second to see Johnny seething in anger at the sight of his friend flirting with her and Thea was questioning to herself why he would act this way.

"Nice to meet you Dutch.ย  It was nice to meet you all, but before I get in trouble, I need to go back home. Bye guys." Thea was about to grab the handle to the door, but before she could, she felt a hand gently grab her wrist and she turned around to see Johnny.

"What's your number? I would like to catch up with you if you want."

"I really would give you my number, but I don't have a landline yet," Thea said honestly. She was about to say something else until she looked up to see Johnny with a look of anger in his eyes, the same crimson temper that Thea was familiar with when they were kids.

"Fine, if you didn't want my number, you could've just said so. You didn't have to lie to me," Johnny spat with a cruel tone, the conversation escalating instantly. Thea stared at the tall boy in disbelief. She scoffed and ripped her wrist out of the boy's grasp.

"Dude, I'm not lying to you and if you really don't believe me, then I was wrong about you. You're still the bullying kid that always thinks you're right about everything."

"And I was right about you being the whiny-complaining bitch just like how you were all those years ago." Thea's mouth gaped open and she stepped closer to Johnny, their faces inches apart from one another. They could feel each other's hot breath and Thea would be lying if she said she wasn't admiring Johnny's features.

"Go fuck yourself, Johnny Lawrence." With that, Thea angrily pushed open the door and walked back to her car turning the ignition on with force. Thea was wrong about Johnny and she knew she should've listened to her gut before she made the assumption that the boy changed for the better.

Thea drove home and continued to unpack the boxes, soon getting a good night's rest for her first day atย  West Valley High School. She was hoping that Johnny didn't go to that school, not wanting to deal with the annoying blonde boy.

But little did Thea know, she was going to have a very interesting classmate who may or may not be a new student just like her.

But most of all, Johnny wouldn't like it either.
