BEAUTIFUL CRAZY

sixteen. puzzle pieces

They all crowded around Tyler's laptop, even Kathy who understood even less than Wren did. And they were all impressed as Tyler loaded the PAR data onto this computer.

"Whoa," Wren mumbled, leaning on her elbow as her eyes watched as a 3D tornado appeared on the screen – it was the tornado from the other day.

"Wow, these scans are impressive," Tyler mused, in awe.

"It's a complete map of the chaos," Kate mumbled as she watched the screen, then her eyebrows pinched a little. "Tyler, our moisture numbers are off. Currently, the polymer is only absorbing the existing raindrops, not the moisture from the humidity. I mean, we need it to participate out more."

"And that means we gotta make it rain?" Wren questioned, looking over at Kate before looking back at her boyfriend, who smiled as he nodded. "How we gonna do that?"

"They were cloud seeding in Lawton a few years ago for the farmers," Kathy told them before taking a sip of her beer.

"Yeah. Yeah, silver iodide." Kate nodded.

Tyler smiled, meeting Wren's eyes, "We can shoot rockets of that."

"Love it already." Wren nodded, her eyes wide in excitement.

He chuckled, but continued, "So, the silver iodide converts the moisture into rain, and then the sodium polyacrylate – we'd need a lot of it – would pull the water from the storm, increasing the cold pool."

"And you lost me."

Kate chuckled, lightly patted the top of the girl's head, "no faster way to choke a tornado."

"So many big words," Wren mumbled, pulling her notebook towards her, making the two laugh. Tyler wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her into chest, kissing the top of her head. She smiled, leaning into him as she read over her messy handwriting. "I like the rockets part, though. Can I hit the button?"

"Think you'll have to fight Boone for that one."

"I can take him." She shrugged and he chuckled, pressing his nose into her hair as he took a deep breath. Kate watched as his shoulders relaxed a little, like just being close to Wren put him at ease.

"Well, I'm gonna head inside." The blonde pushed herself up. "No sex in my barn."

"Wouldn't dream of it," Wren grinned and Kate rolled her eyes as she left, pulling the door closed behind her. But Kate knew better.

Tyler leaned down and kissed her shoulder, smiling as she leaned into him, tilting her head to the side a little. He brushed her hair back, dragging his nose across her skin, leaving warm kisses against her. "Wanna break another promise?"

"Oh, absolutely," she breathed out, turning towards him on the stool she sat on. Her hands moved up his chest until her fingers tangled in his hair. His hands were gentle against her cheeks, his thumbs softly grazing her cheekbones.

He pulled back and she nearly whimpered, pushing herself to her feet to meet his lips again, "I've been picturing you bent over this table since this mornin'. What do you think of that, baby?"

"I like it. I like it a lot." She nodded quickly and he grinned as he pressed his lips against hers before turning her around, pushing on her back until her chest was against the table.

Wren smiled, brushing her fingers through Tyler's hair. He had his head on her chest, his arms around her and his body between her legs. She leaned down and kissed his forehead, bringing a smile to his lips as his eyes closed.

She absolutely loved it.

She loved holding him. She loved that he liked to be held. And she loved how tightly his arms were wrapped around her – like he was afraid she'd disappear he loosened his hold even just a little.

Her smile faltered just a bit as her mind raced. She knew she loved him, but she still hardly knew him. And she wanted to know everything. She wanted to know every aspect of his life. She wanted to know more about his bull riding career, about his time in school, and how he started the Tornado Wranglers.

When he opened his eyes again, his brows creased at the look on her face. She looked lost in thought and maybe a little confused, or maybe it was hesitance. He swallowed his panic, hoping – praying – that she hadn't changed her mind.

"You okay, baby?"

She blinked a few times, almost like he had startled her out of her thoughts. "Yeah."

"What's goin' on in that head of yours?"

She smiled at him, pressing another kiss to his forehead, "you."

"Me?"

"I wanna know more about you. And not just the Tornado Wrangler stuff."

"What kinda stuff do you wanna know?"

"Everything," she hummed.

"Well, baby, that's a whole lot. Don't think we can fit it all in one night."

She laughed, rolling her eyes at him, "we have plenty of time. Don't gotta squeeze it all in tonight."

He grinned, "well, where do you wanna start?"

"What was college like?"

"You really wanna know what school was like?"

She nodded, "always wanted to go. But I couldn't afford it."

"Well, it was hard. Had to learn a lot of big words."

And they spent most of the night talking, laughing even. He'd made it his mission to make her laugh every chance he got. He never knew that he could fall in love with someone just a little more every time he heard their laugh, but the more she laughed the more he loved her.

They talked about his time on the rodeo circuit, the injuries he had gotten from it, and how after every rodeo he and Boone would hit up the closest bar. He told her all about college and the classes he took and how it had just fueled his fascination with storms.

He told her about how he and Boone started the channel completely by accident after driving into a storm, which Boone had recorded on his phone. He told her about meeting Dani, Lily and Dexter and how they all just fit, like they had always known each other.

And when he asked, she told him about how she'd lied to get a job at Stubby's Saloon when she was only sixteen. Then about how Savannah had taken her in, going as far as to offer her a bed when her father was being partially awful. She told him about singing in different bars across the state, and how she spent a few weeks in each city bartending just to be able to afford to feed herself.

She told him about her mom, who she had loved with her entire heart. And despite the fact that she had seemingly lost all sense of her heritage, she had sung her to sleep with a Spanish lullaby – one she still remembered. She told him how she had watched her get sick when she was only eight, and for two years she watched as she got worse. Until she was just gone.

She even told him about her dad, who hadn't always been a mean drunk that used her as a punching bag.

And when things had gotten a little heavy, he held her. Kissing her everywhere he could as if he were trying to erase the pain that lingered only in her mind. Like he was trying to heal a part of her that had long since been broken.

But he'd already done so without even knowing, without ever trying.

They fell asleep wrapped in each other's arms just as the sun had claimed the sky. Their legs intertwined and their bodies molded together like they were puzzle pieces finally finding where they fit.
