LILLIAN raised her fist toward the door, gently knocking on it as she waited for it to open. She let out a puff of air as the door opened revealing a smiling aunt May.
"Lilly! How are you?" May beamed, pulling Lillian in for a hug.
Lillian chuckled softly as she hugged her back, "Hey, I'm good. And you?" She asked as she pulled away from the hug.
"I'm great." May smiled. "Come in. Do you want anything?" She asked as Lillian entered their apartment.
"No, thank you. I was actually wondering if Peter was home?" Lillian asked softly.
"Oh, um... he should be in his room." May responded with a soft smile. "Can you tell him that dinner's almost ready?" She asked as she went to kitchen.
Lillian nodded before continuing her way to Peter's room. She knocked on his door as she patiently waited for him to open it.
"May, I told you... I'm busy." She heard Peter call out before the door opened. "Oh." He sighed.
Her eyebrows furrowed, "Hello to you, too." She scoffed lightly.
"I'm sorry, Lilly. I'm just-"
"Busy. I know." She finished for him as Peter let her in his room. She sat down on the edge of his bed as Peter shut the door after her. "May wanted me to tell you that dinner's almost ready." She sighed before continuing, "You got Spider-Man duty?" She asked.
Peter shook his head rather too quickly, "No," he cleared his throat, "It's something completely unrelated." He stated nonchalantly.
Lillian hummed in response as her eyes narrowed at Peter, leaning back against the bed whilst her hand came in contact with a piece of paper. Catching her attention she looked down at the piece of paper as she analyzed it. "Cross-species genetics? What are you doing Peter?" She asked softly, looking at him with a raised eyebrow.
Peter hurriedly snatched the paper from Lillian, "It's nothing."
"Yeah 'cause that looked like nothing." She shook her head, "You know, ever since we went to OsCorp you've been constantly hiding things from me. At first, I thought it was because you had some 'Spider-Man' things to deal with and you didn't want me to worry." She shrugged. "But I told myself that if that was the case, he would still give me heads up if he was okay. So I thought you were avoiding me because of what Flash said two weeks ago."
"Not everything's about you, Lilly." He spat lowly as he rolled his eyes.
Lillian scoffed, taken aback, "Wow... I never said it was." She retorted sternly.
He shook his head, "Why did you come here?" He asked, feeling irritated.
"I came here because I needed to tell you something since you weren't answering your phone." She said nonchalantly.
"What is it?" He asked with annoyance dripping in his voice.
Lillian rolled her eyes at his attitude, "It's about Dr. Connors. I already know you're not gonna believe me since you basically worship the guy." She pointed out, gesturing toward the crumbled up piece of paper. "But I think he's up to something. I couldn't help, but remember the way he was talking about 'wanting to create a world without weakness' and then he has some file that's being kept under wraps that MJ pointed out-"
Peter scoffed, "You don't know what you're talking about."
"Will you just listen to me? I know it's probably not much, Peter, but I just have a gut feeling that there's something off about him."
"There's nothing off, about him, Lillian. You're just delusional." He spat frustratedly.
She felt a sharp pang of sadness hit her, "I'm not delusional... I just want you to be careful, Peter." She spoke softly.
"So you're telling me that Dr. Connors is some 'evil genius' who has an evil plot to rule the world?" He scoffed as he shook his head. "Yeah 'cause that doesn't sound delusional. Seriously Lilly, have you ever wondered that maybe this is the reason why your dad left you because of all the crazy shit that comes out of your mouth?" He spat out lowly as his eyes widened slightly in realization.
Lillian scoffed lightly in shock as she was on the verge of tears, "I can't believe you actually said that." She stood up from his bed, making a bee line to his door before turning around to face Peter. "I never thought that you, of all people, would say something like that to me." She muttered as a tear cascaded down her cheek. She left his room, shutting the door after herself as she wiped away her tears. She walked to the front door, opening it as aunt May called out for her.
"Leaving already?" She spoke softly.
Lillian quickly wiped away the remaining tears off her face before turning to face May. "Uh... yeah. I promised Jade and MJ that I was coming over." She lied, giving her a small smile.
"Oh, okay sweetie. Maybe another time?" May asked, full of hope.
Lillian nodded, "Yeah." She breathed out another lie as she left their apartment.
Peter soon ran out of his room after contemplating if he should go after what he hoped to still be his girlfriend after his irrational comment. "Where's Lilly?" He asked May.
Her eyebrows furrowed, "She just left. She said she had to go-"
Peter ran out the door not listening to the rest of his aunt's sentence as he knocked on Lillian's apartment door. The door opened to reveal Lillian's brother who looked at Peter with a puzzled expression on his face.
"May I help you?" Nathan asked, keeping the door slightly opened.
"Is Lilly here? I-I need to talk to her." He spoke in panic.
Nathan hummed in response as his eyes narrowed in thought. "Nope." He said as he goes to shut the door.
Peter's hand slammed against the door, stopping it from closing all the way. "Is she here?" He asked one more time.
"I think you already know the answer to that, buddy." Nathan whispered knowingly.
"Can I please talk to her?" Peter asked, his face softening as a pang of guilt hit his chest.
Nathan looked beside him at his sister who was hiding behind the door, waiting for her answer. Lillian shook her head as she looked up at her brother with her red, sad dull green eyes. Nathan faced Peter once again before answering, "Sorry, dude." He said softly as he shrugged whilst shutting the door.
Peter groaned, running his hands through his hair frustratedly as he walked back into his apartment. Lillian hearing the door slam shut as sat down with her back against her front door whilst silently crying with her brother comforting her.
