Sora finished her clinic duties, tending to her patients diligently. Her secretary noticed a bruise on her neck and asked innocently, "What is that bruise on your neck?"
Sora, caught off guard, quickly responded, "Ah, this? I just burned my hair with the curling iron. Haha."
However, her secretary realized she never curled her hair since he started working for her. A sense of jealousy overwhelmed him as he now understood she was taken. Unfazed by potential harm, he decided to proceed with his plan, uncaring of the consequences for her.
Finally leaving the clinic early in the morning, Sora headed home to search for her scarf. Though not prone to misplacing things, occasional forgetfulness is inevitable, especially when her mind is preoccupied. After hours of pondering during her chores, she recalled where she left it.
"Jay," she muttered, "It's in his car."
She grabed her phone and called Jay. After a few rings, he answered, his voice low, suggesting he just woke up. It's no surprise; Jay likely didn't get much sleep the night before.
"Sora, what is it?"
"The neckerchief, do you have it?"
"Ah, that?"
So he has it, she thought.
"I was about to go there and give it back. I'll just get ready in a few."
"Wait," she said before he could hang up. "You can go to the Laundromat a few blocks from my apartment complex. I'm heading there."
"Okay, I'll be there soon. I also need to ask you something."
He didn't give her any clue as to what he will ask, and she didn't ask about it. She headed to the Laundromat, and the woman by the counter greeted her. She put the first batch of clothes in the washer before heading to the lounge café to buy some coffee. When Jay arrived, he saw her in the lounge.
She handed him a cup of coffee as he sat across from her before he handed her the neckerchief that she put on her side. She looked back at Jay.
"So? What was it that you need to ask me?"
"I'm inviting you to my concert."
"When is it?"
"Tomorrow, actually."
"And what makes you think I would accept the invitation?"
"Because you're my therapist, and you're supposed to watch me work, and I'm sure you'll love my charisma on stage."
"Only on stage?" Sora flirted with him shamelessly, and he leaned closer to her, noses touching, but he held back for some reason, probably because he knows he won't be able to stop.
Tomorrow finally arrived, and Sora, having secured VIP tickets with a stand-off view, felt privileged as she knew how expensive those tickets were. She arrived a bit late for the soundcheck, caught up in paperwork. Nevertheless, the concert started with an intro performance.
Sora was thoroughly enjoying herself. She had forgotten how enjoyable K-pop concerts were, particularly Hybe groups.
The energy on stage, especially from Jay, captivated her attention. When they switched back to performing songs from their new album, Sora found herself singing along to tunes she had heard a few times on the radio and even dancing along, copying their choreography.
Every time Sora was starting to forget about maintaining a low profile, she would catch random glances in her direction from Sunoo. Whether those glances were meant specifically for her or not, it was evident he remembered her from that day.
Whenever the group stopped performing for commentary between sets, Jay would pointedly look over at Sora many times, his eyes conveying various emotions and messages.
As the intro of the next song played, Sora immediately understood why the crowd reacted the way they did. It was Bite Me, and she chuckled to herself, recalling the controversy with the backup dancers. Fans had sent trucks due to jealousy, and she wondered what they would do if they found out about her relationship with Jay.
This performance turned out to be Sora's favorite so far. It was dynamic, and she couldn't hide her love for sexy dark concepts.
Being the cheeky man that he was, Jay made it a point to look directly at Sora a couple of times during the performance. Every time he did, she tried not to give him any satisfaction by turning her gaze elsewhere, though it was challenging since he was the closest to her.
When Heeseung's verse came, Sora fell in love with him as a performer, enthralled by the way he expressed the lyrics through his singing.
The music started as soon as they comfortably took their places. Sora recognized the song as Orange Flower, a catchy bop from their new album. She sang along with them, unable to shake her smile since it was such a cute song, and the members looked like they were having so much fun interacting with each other while singing.
Jay wasn't sure what gave him the confidence to do so, but when another member was on his last line, Jay turned towards the pit.
He looked at Sora and finished the verse with "마침내 you complete me
So I'm yours right now," and watched her laugh in reaction to it.
Yeah, he's all hers, which was dangerous.
From the moment he first walked into her office, she was dangerous to his career.
But I don't care,Jay thought.
Not that he had much time to dwell over it, because they immediately got into position for "Criminal Love" as soon as the song ended.
When he bent down in position after his intro verse in the song, he was automatically facing the pit, so he looked at Sora, who caught his eyes and raised her hand to her mouth to let out a whoop. He obviously couldn't hear it, but he certainly could see it, and it brought a smile to his face.
After every set of lines he had in the song, Jay would shift his eyes to Sora. He still couldn't really believe she was there, or he was scared she would somehow disappear.
But she was always there, jumping in rhythm and lip-syncing to the song even if she didn't know the lyrics.
Once "Criminal Love" ended, Jay and the others left to get ready for the encore.
Back in the waiting room, as the makeup artist was retouching their makeup, Ni-ki teased his hyung, "She is here! I wonder why? I guess she wants to observe how you're working."
Sunoo just chuckled loudly, "I still want an apology for what I've seen that day."
"What's going on here?"
It was Jungwon who had silently approached them. Normally the sweetest guy, but in situations where he had to be serious, Jungwon knew how to take charge. Sunoo stopped laughing, feeling slightly intimidated, despite being a maknae; Jungwon sure earned his respect as a leader.
"Nothing, Riki is just being annoying," Jay said.
"You know I heard everything, right?" Jungwon reminded them, folding his arms. "Who were you talking about? Who is here?"
There was no point in lying or playing dumb with Jungwon, so Jay fessed up.
"Remember Jaehyun's cousin? My therapist and your mom's ex-therapist?" Jay asked, and Jungwon nodded. "She's in the audience; I invited her."
"Why would she be here? That's a bit unprofessional, don't you think so?" Jungwon remembered, narrowing his eyes.
"It's not," Jay spoke up. "We're close, so she couldn't refuse."
Jungwon just looked extremely discomforted by his words.
"It's okay, man, we can trust her," Jay assured him.
Jungwon looked suspicious, then said, "But okay, I'll take your word for it. Just don't do anything dumb. Actually, just don't let her do anything dumb."
"Okay," Jay insisted. "Don't worry, Won-leader."
With that, Jungwon finally smiled and patted Jay on the shoulder. "Have fun performing!"
Whew, he's back to normal.
When he heard his cue, Jay jogged back towards the stage, the members next to him. The lights dimmed, and Jay walked on stage, waiting for the music to begin.
"Let's go, Engene!"
