And I just placed my tears in my heart
Again today, I can't forget you

══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══

A week later

After all the drama with Cha-young and Dilraba, Taehyung was lost in a sea of confusion. He couldn't understand why sending Cha-young back to Denmark had unsettled him. But one thing was clear: Diraba's mood had significantly lightened, almost as if a weight had lifted; she was happier and more carefree. He wondered if it had anything to do with Cha-youngs absence.

He couldn't fully move on without knowing what he'd lost during the last six months. What confused him even more was the weird behaviour of his maknae-line friends and his parents. Even Jimin, like a brother to him, seemed angry and icy towards him over how he'd treated Cha-young. What made him question their sanity was how his friend could sympathize with the girl who had made his life at university so miserable and challenging. But a gnawing feeling inside him made him wonder why he felt he'd lost something important. Something so profound. But he just couldn't put his finger on it.

Cha-young's heartbroken expression and tearful eyes haunted him at night, and he even started having strange dreams about her.

Dream flashback

One night, he dreamt of anxiously searching for someone in an unfamiliar museum in a foreign European country. He wandered through the countless gallery studios after gallery, passing by numerous historic paintings, until he spotted what he was looking for. A figure stood quietly before Vermeer's famous 17th-century painting, Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Deep affection overwhelmed him as he gazed lovingly at the figure. He walked up and wrapped his arms around her in a back hug, but when she turned to face him with the softest, most beautiful smile, it was Cha-young. It was shocking.

He woke up from the dream feeling more agitated and confused than ever. Why was he suddenly dreaming about her? Was her recent presence in his life causing this sudden pull of affection, even haunting his sleep?

His parents, too, gave him strange looks that made him wonder if they were quietly judging how he'd treated her. Why did they seem to care about this girl who'd once caused him so much trouble? Why did they, like others, seem drawn to this "hell-raiser"?

How did she get it right to reel them in to favour her? Even his mom likes her. Why is no one on his side? Jimin loves to take Cha-young's side as if he was bribed to protect her. Maybe she has some blackmail material about his exploits, and he has no choice but to dance to her tunes. Jungkook just silently watches the K-drama with amusement, as if he is in a cinema eating popcorn and waiting for the climax to play off.

Recently, Olive and Hansel, Cha-young's colleagues from Denmark, returned home after helping with the successful conclusion of the student Egyptian exhibit. During Taehyung's last conversation with the outspoken Hansel, he learned that Cha-young's promotion was uncertain and that she might even lose her job after she conflicts with his 'girlfriend'. He doesn't understand why he felt so uneasy about that issue. Revenge doesn't feel so good right now.

Hansel had a massive, flamboyant, and arrogant personality. He often bragged about his achievements, hinting that their boss, Mr. Hansen, saw him as a top candidate for a senior curator position. He was sure he would get the promotion because he was already Mr. Hansen's right-hand man. He, Taehyung, also knows how well Mr. Hansen talked about Hansel. He might deal with Hansel in the future.

When Taehyung asked slyly about Cha-young's whereabouts, Hansel admitted that she was excellent at her job, though she had a bold, very sassy approach that not everyone appreciated. She was, however, a valuable asset to their museum, especially for venturing into the Asian market. Thanks to her language skills—fluent in Korean, Mandarin, Japanese, English, and Danish—she'd brought in many Asian investors. Maybe she gave personal favours to all those Chinese investors.

Mr. Hansen thought highly of her for this, but he doubts her leadership skills on a higher level. Taehyung just snorted because he couldn't imagine her attitude at work. No boss likes a know-it-all. She is worse than Hermoine from Harry Potter. The only comparison is that Hermoine is naturally intelligent, and Cha-young is not. Yes, he can see similarities. Like Hermoine, she is a natural witch...more like a hag.
....

Back in his office, Taehyung sat deep in thought, clearly frustrated by his memory loss. It had been nearly four months with no improvement, and even his specialist had advised him to relax and let his mind heal in its own time.

Just then, Taehyung's phone chimed.

Seeing his mom's name on the screen, he sighed and answered, "Good afternoon, Eomma. How can I help my beautiful mom today? Did I forget a lunch or dinner date?" he teased.

His mom's voice was cheerful. "Hey, son! No, you haven't missed anything, but one of the interior designers for your mansion just called. She's ready to show you the final touches."

"What? Wait-what mansion?" he asked, blinking in surprise. He was genuinely shocked. A mansion he didn't remember planning? He already lived in a luxurious penthouse in Gangnam. The idea that he'd hired an interior designer and let her finish this project without any memory was baffling.

"Eomma, I thought the project stopped after my accident. I don't remember hiring anyone for the interior design... Honestly, I don't even feel motivated to oversee it. How am I supposed to finish a project I don't even remember starting?" he said, sounding dejected. Everything seemed more complicated since the accident that stole a chunk of his memory.

He'd already learned he was about to get married, bought jewellery worth millions, and started mansions—all things he couldn't quite wrap his head around. He liked his current lifestyle as it was.

His mom's voice was reassuring. "Son, it's okay if you don't remember. I took over managing this house project before your accident. We were hoping you could sign off on some of the furniture orders you've placed. But don't worry; Dad and I can pay for it if you want. We even talked about buying the property from you so you wouldn't have to worry about maintaining it."

Taehyung frowned, "No, no, Eomma. I can't let you pay for all that. Where are you now? I'll come to the house, and we can discuss it... But I know how much you've enjoyed decorating and organizing the place, so I'll let you take the lead on the rest."

His mom enjoyed being part of the project, handling everything with suppliers while he'd been away in New York.

"Oh, I'm so happy, baby!" she chuckled. "I just wish you'd decide to live here. But if you'd rather sell it, we can help find the right buyer or Dad, and I could even buy it ourselves. I'm here with the designer right now; she needs your input. One of your friends from the Bangtan Elite Club might be interested, too, right? Hoseok could use it if he plans to propose to his girlfriend soon, or maybe Jungkook or Jimin."

Taehyung laughed. "Eomma, don't count on it. Seokjin and Yoongi already have plans for new builds. Hobi's a maybe-he proposed to Jessica, but when I asked her about their wedding plans, she said she was still focused on her career. So, marriage with Hobi is on hold. Jungkook? He's too attached to his bachelor pad. As for Jimin, he won't get married anytime soon-maybe when he's 45!"

His mom laughed. "Ah, your club has such 'bad luck' with relationships! You guys only attract gold diggers. I hope you're not rushing back into things with your ex. Take your time. Recover fully and figure out why you broke up in the first place, okay?"

Taehyung sighed, "Yep, that's us. I'll see you soon, Eomma. I need to finish a few things here at work. I might be heading to Denmark next month- Mr. Hansen and I are planning a big project for next year. It'll be a six-month venture. I'll fill you and Appa in on my travel plans soon."

His mom's voice sounded oddly excited. "Oh my gosh! Next month? Denmark? I'm so happy to hear that you're going!" She seemed strangely thrilled, which only made him more confused.

Surprised, Taehyung asked, "Why is Eomma so excited about me going to Denmark? You've never really had much to say about my travels before."

He heard her take a quick breath, then give an awkward laugh. "Oh... it's just because of your condition, my boy. I'm just surprised you feel well enough to travel so far, all the way to Europe."

Taehyung frowned, feeling like his mom was holding something back. She'd always wished him safe travels before, but now she was cheerful about him mentioning Denmark.

Quickly, his mom said, "Oh, erm, Tae, I have to go now. The interior designer needs me... please be here before the delivery arrives. Bye-bye, son." She hung up before he could even respond.

He shook his head, staring at his phone, baffled. "Typical moms..." he mumbled, putting his phone away and standing up. He gathered his things, saving his client's calls for tomorrow. He needed to check on the mansion he'd built in Incheon. What had he been thinking with that?

Soon, he arrived at the exclusive "Woodland Estate" development. The place always made him feel strange. It was only his second visit since his accident, and he still couldn't quite understand why he'd decided to build a four-story mansion there. The estate had everything: a golf course, parks, walking trails, a private school, medical suites, sports facilities, and even a shopping centre just for residents.

After passing the tight security checkpoint, he inspected his two-acre property's extensive, landscaped gardens. Every time he saw it, he was amazed. Why did he buy this plot and build such a massive mansion?

Driving slowly past the other grand homes, he couldn't help but compare them to the secluded LA mansions he'd seen in the U.S., each with high-security gates and all the luxury amenities.

Finally, he took a deep breath and drove to his property. As he approached, the large wrought-iron gates swung open, and the security guard his parents hired greeted him politely.

In the driveway, he spotted his mom's baby-blue Ferrari, which was custom-designed and a reminder of their "old money" status. He smirked slightly, remembering a jab from his nemesis, who'd once sneered that he only 'sponged off on family legacy and good looks.' Why was he thinking of her? That girl hadn't changed a bit, and any hint of 'turning a new leaf' was not to be trusted.

Choi Cha-young was a snake, and he wasn't fond of reptiles.

He parked before the enormous double glass doors, climbed the cobblestone steps lined with stainless steel railings, and entered quietly, hands in his pockets. Distant voices echoed from the open area near the entrance hall...

You sigh as you pull on your red bomber jacket. You've been home almost a month, and your days have started to feel routine. The one bright spot has been your new friend, Noah.

Noah called and invited you to lunch two weeks ago after that doctor's appointment. He didn't give you a chance to say no- he just announced he was taking you out so you could get to know each other better.

At first, you were hesitant to go out with another guy after the mess with your ex-fiancé, Taehyung. Plus, with your health issues and pregnancy, you weren't sure if dating was a good idea. Your body was changing quickly; your friends and family noticed your belly was showing, though you were still pretty small for almost five months. Olive and Laura were happy to see you putting on a little weight. Your cheeks were filling out, and despite the severe health issue, you looked more radiant and full of life.

You'd promised to live stress-free and focus on your little "butterfly."

You and Noah hit it off as friends on that first lunch date at a nice restaurant called Barr. He enjoyed being around you so much that it led to more dates filling your dull days. Your dad and Sofia were shocked that a national footballer and an old classmate brought a smile back to your face.

You were a little uneasy about being seen with such a well-known athlete. By the fifth ice cream date, a paparazzo spotted Noah with a "mystery Asian girl," and the tabloids had a field day speculating. Since then, Noah has been careful about taking you to private spots to unwind after his intense training sessions.

Olive and Laura were thrilled, convinced you were "back on the market." But you quickly set them straight-you and Noah were just friends, and he wholly respected that. When you told him about your health and focus on your "baby butterfly," he understood.

As you prepare for today's lunch, you're still a little nervous about being out with a high-profile celebrity. You've been caught by paparazzi before, even if oversized sunglasses or hats hid your face. But for now, you trust Noah to keep things relaxed.

You relaxed in Noah's car, listening to his smooth playlist. He looked so peaceful, and with every moment, you appreciated his company more. Noah treated you with so much respect and care that it almost brought tears to your eyes. He reminded you of how Taehyung treated you before he forgot his love for you.

But you knew not to hope for a future since yours was uncertain.

You looked casual in a white t-shirt, a red and white hoodie, loose black sweatpants, and red Converse. Noah was dressed sportily, too, in a black Adidas tracksuit. Together, you could easily pass for a laid-back couple.

Noah turned to you with a slight smirk. "How do you feel about a change of plans?"

You raised your eyebrows. "What?"

Noah smiled, looking a little embarrassed. "I'd like to take you to my place. I want to cook you a meal and... talk."

You blinked, surprised. "Wow? You want to cook for me?"

He nodded awkwardly. "Yeah, but honestly, I've never cooked for or brought a woman to my place. I'm usually too busy to date, but I like your company, Cha-young. I know you told me about your baby and the breakup, and I'm so sorry you went through that. But... I want to get to know you better. Even my dad thinks you're amazing, and I-I think so too."

You looked down as your emotions shifted. It felt too good to be true that someone would care about you, even while you were emotionally unavailable and pregnant with someone else's child.

Looking up, you turned to him, biting your lip nervously. "Noah, I've got so much baggage and don't want to drag you into it. My health is getting worse, and I'm scared I might not live to see my little girl born. She's all that matters now. I want to live as normal as possible, but you deserve someone better."

Noah pulled the car over to the side of the road and looked at you seriously. "Cha-young... I have a confession. I've liked you since high school. When you were a freshman, and I was a junior, I saw you trying out as a cheerleader. The guys couldn't stop talking about how pretty you were, and I told my friends I liked you. Your boyfriend was also in the company when he heard I liked you."

Your eyes widened. "Really? I had no idea! You were always nice to me and my friends, handing out water bottles and snacks during games."

Noah chuckled awkwardly, "Yeah, I was pretty hopeless when asking girls out. I wanted to ask you for an ice cream and movie date, but I was too late, and it devastated me for weeks when I found out that Carl had already taken you to an amusement park two days later before I had the chance. You two were so cute together, so I let it go."

You smiled sadly, "Yeah, Carl probably liked me because you did. He was also very competitive, especially with his fear of your popularity. I think he just wanted to 'win' somehow. Once you graduated, he didn't need to keep up the act and was easily swayed by my cousin. He was fooling around behind my back the whole time."

"I'm sorry," Noah said softly. "I didn't know until it was too late, and then you were off to Seoul to study. And... your fiancé. Does he know about your condition?"

The raw pain in your eyes answered his question. You shook your head. "No. It is so complicated. I want to forget him and move on... but it's so hard, Noah. He was my true love. We had a future wedding planned that was about to be in a month after his birthday, building a dream mansion, and even how many kids we would have. Everything was ready... and then it all fell apart." Your eyes filled with tears. "I'd rather not dig up all those memories right now."

Noah's face was filled with compassion as he pulled you into a warm hug. "Cha-young, I'll be here for you as your friend, support, and crutch. I'll be with you through this, okay? I'll stand by you, even if you decide to move to Sweden for that new job."

Noah's friendship so moved you. He was willing to be there for you, even if it meant risking his reputation by being seen with a pregnant woman. What would people think? What if they assumed it was his child?

You hadn't told your boss or Olive about your interview with the museum in Sweden yet. A few days ago, you'd learned that Hansel got the senior curator role while you and Olive were overlooked. Hansel was already acting like he owned the place, bossing everyone around whenever Mr. Hansen was away.

When the HR manager called, you decided to do the interview online. If you got the job, you'd hand in your resignation and leave Denmark for good.

You were surprised by the luxury of Noah's condo. He was living in one of Copenhagens' affluent neighbourhoods- Nordhavn. He nearly coal-burned the Krebinetter he was trying to impress you with, and you just laughed, taking over the cooking yourself. The two of you shared a wonderful time, and you knew then that Noah would be a steady, quiet strength to help you through this battle.

For once, someone genuinely liked you, no strings attached.
