CHAPTER ONE

LEE MINHO POV

With a cold face, I leaned against an ice-cold wall and watched Sang-Choo and Tae-Jin beat up some boy. I don't have a clue who, but I didn't care. He had messed with us, so he should have seen it coming.
I took a long drag from my cigarette and then blew the smoke into the air. I looked at the gray cloud for a moment. It's like me. Spit out by someone even though you never asked for it. The cloud slowly dissipated before my eyes and a grin spread across my lips.

People were really stupid. They think they can take on stronger people, even though they know they'll never win. Normally I always say you shouldn't be a coward, but taking on someone you know is stronger is just stupid.
It's stupid to put yourself in a situation like this guy here. He could have avoided the whole thing, but he had to tell us to put the cigarettes away.
Still, I didn't hit him. I never hit, only in defense.

The school bell interrupted my train of thought and called us to lunch. Sighing, I threw my cigarette on the floor and crushed it. Sang-choo, Tae-Jin and I skipped school again, but we could treat ourselves to lunch. I won't get anything at home anyway.

I waved my two "friends" over to me and motioned for them to go first. When they were out of reach, I kneeled down next to the boy who was lying on the floor breathing heavily. "Don't you dare say that to anyone."
He nodded anxiously, which I commented on with a grin. "Good boy."
I slapped him once on the cheek and then got up to go to lunch.

In the cafeteria, I had already put my food on the tray and sat down at some table in the corner. Where no one was sitting. I always ate alone, it was more relaxed.
I calmly took the chopsticks, grabbed some ramen and stuffed it into my mouth. I stopped in the middle of the chewing motion. Screams rang out, panicked students suddenly ran across the large hall. My gaze wandered to the large glass door, which was already cracked because a bunch of students were banging on it.

What was wrong with them? And why did they have blood on their uniforms? Unfortunately, I didn't have any more time to think because the old glass pane broke and all the students ran in like crazy and attacked others. I watched in horror as Tae-Jin was bitten on the neck in front of me and then stood up, cracking and contorting his body. His eyes were full of blood and his veins were suddenly purple.

Suddenly he turned to me and jumped with a strange noise. With a loud crash, I landed with him on the now wet cafeteria floor. Apparently the sprinkler system had gone off. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" I shouted angrily into his bloody face and quickly kicked him off me before he could bite me. What the fuck is going on here? Are they all crazy?

Another guy who looked like taejin ran towards me making strange noises and wanted to attack me, but with a quick movement I punched his head and made him fall. Somehow I got scared now. Students were attacking others, half-ripping them apart and they became just as aggressive. Fear-filled screams cut through the air.
I kept fending off aggressive students, taking my tray and hitting them with it or using it as a shield while I looked for a way out.

I spotted an open window and was about to climb over the table when I suddenly heard a loud cry for help near me. I saw a small, crying boy who was trying with all his strength to get someone else off him. Without really thinking, I jumped off the table and pulled the boy off him. I took the apparently younger boy by the hand and simply pulled him to the table with me. "Come on, hurry up!" I hissed and helped him up to the window where he quickly climbed out. I followed him and jumped out of the window onto the lawn.

I caught sight of some of the bloody students sprinting towards us at an incredible speed. I hastily grabbed the boy's hand and ran away with him from the strange guys. I was just about to tear open the front door of the school when I saw several of these weird things through the glass. "Fuck"

I quickly grabbed two brooms that were standing nearby and pressed a broomstick into the boy's hand. "Defend yourself and try to stay close to me," I said to him. He nodded and tightened his grip on the broom. I tightened my grip on the broom too, but with determination. No matter what it was, I wouldn't let it bite me. Never.

I kicked open the door and tackled one of the guys who tried to pounce on me. Together with the other boy, I fought my way to the stairs and ran up with him. Another bleeding guy came towards us and he finished him off with a blow. I grabbed his hand again, fended him off and pulled him to one of the classrooms.

While we continued to fend people off, he banged on the door. "Open up!" he shouted in panic. With a jerk, the door was opened and we were pulled in. The door slammed shut with a loud bang and a tall, muscular boy wedged himself between the two doors so that no one could get through.

When I turned around, a baseball bat was held under my chin. "Were you bitten?" a puppy-like boy asked skeptically, looking down at me. "No, I wasn't bitten, man," I grumbled at him and swatted the baseball bat away. I took a quick look around and spotted a few of my classmates. Bang Chan, the class president, Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin. The others must be younger.

"And who the fuck are you?" I turned to the other seven who were sitting on a few chairs.
The young puppy raised his voice. "My name is Kim Seungmin and this is Jeongin."
He pointed to a fox boy next to him who looked at me anxiously. Typical.
The others also introduced themselves, and a few names sounded quite familiar. Hwang Hyunjin and Lee Felix, the school's dream couple, Kim Taehyung and Park Jimin, two of the popular ones.
"And my name is Jisung," the boy I had rescued introduced himself. Jisung then. Mhm nice name.
