CHAPTER FOUR
LEE MINHO POV.
Still totally traumatized by Namjoon's death, a few of us sat in a corner and tried to come to terms with everything. Chan was sitting somewhere next to Seungmin and the two of them were talking quietly about something. Maybe puppy boy will become a therapist for our class president now. Where did he even get that baseball bat he hit the zombie with?
I looked around for a moment and then spotted Jisung looking out of the window. I sighed and walked over to him where I leaned next to him. "Are you okay?" I asked. For once, I was really interested. Jisung looked over at me briefly and then looked out of the window again. Thousands of zombies were running around on the school soccer pitch, blood on the asphalt. I thought I heard a scream too, but it was probably just a zombie. The sun was already setting, golden rays dancing across the pink-orange-red coloured sky. Was it really that late already?
"Do you think the zombies are in the city too?" asked Jisung, interrupting my thoughts. He turned to me and looked at me with worried eyes. I shrugged my shoulders. "I haven't got a clue. Maybe they are, maybe they're not."
He sighed briefly and then closed the window. "I hope not. I don't want anything to happen to my parents or my sister."
I remained silent for a moment.
Okay Minho, don't say the wrong thing now! You could hurt him badly with your behavior. Or worry him even more. You mustn't be mean now.
"They can take care of themselves."
Damn it. Now he probably hates me. 'They can look after themselves', what kind of attempt at reassurance is that? And why do I even care?
Jisung looked a little strange for a moment, but then nodded. "You're probably right."
Huh? What? He doesn't hate me? He's not angry?
Somehow that made me happy. I think I liked Jisung. Not liked-liked him, of course, I just liked him. As friends.
The sun had almost disappeared behind the houses and the sky was darkening too. We stood next to each other for a while and watched the zombies running around everywhere. Somehow... his presence reassured me. He seems so innocent. So friendly, so loving. The exact opposite of me.
After a while, he put his hand on mine and smiled up at me. His hand was soft and spread such a pleasant warmth through my body that I couldn't help but smile too. His eyes glittered in the light of the ceiling lamp that was switched on after dark. "Thank you," Jisung said suddenly, looking away embarrassed, "you're not as bad as everyone says you are, you know?"
I looked at him in surprise. Was he serious? "Really? Why do you think that?"
"It's just... You're... never mind. Forget what I said."
Embarrassed, Jisung pulled his hand away and cleared his throat. This awkward silence was then interrupted by Taehyung's voice.
"I don't know about you guys, but I think we should get some sleep and see tomorrow."
A good idea for once. The others also agreed and a few minutes later the lights were turned off. Chan, Felix and Hyunjin were snuggled up together, just like Taehyung, Seungmin and Jin. The latter still had traces of tears on his cheeks. But I could understand it, after all, his boyfriend was practically murdered in front of him.
I don't know exactly how, but somehow me and Jisung were in one of the corners and Jisung was snuggled up to me in his sleep. I had to smile a little because it was really cute.
Somehow I fell asleep too...
At some point in the middle of the night, I was woken up by footsteps. Tired, I sat up, being careful not to wake Jisung, of course. When I looked around, I saw Jimin walking up and down the room with his head down. He looked like he was about to fall asleep standing up, honestly.
I stood up carefully and walked over to him. I put my hand on his shoulder, causing him to flinch and then turn around in a flash. "Ah... it's just you Minho hyung.... I thought-"
"That I'm a zombie? Honestly, you would have heard that by now. Although, as tired as you look, it's possible that your ears don't work anymore. However, I doubt that a zombie would put a hand on your shoulder before it mauled you," I replied with a sarcastic undertone. He ducked his head in intimidation, which I was already used to. Jimin was very jumpy.
"Why are you still awake?" I then asked and my voice sounded a little worried. He hesitated but then sighed. "I wanted to make sure nothing happened to the others..." he mumbled and looked down.
"You wanted to stay awake to keep watch?" I asked, surprised. Were we really worth that much to him?
He just nodded. I sighed and pulled him into my arms. He squeaked a little in surprise, but then hugged me back. I stroked his back gently, which didn't really suit me, but he wasn't the only one who needed a hug at the moment.
"Go to sleep. Nothing will happen to us here," I whispered after a while and then took him to Jisung. I sat down leaning against the wall and put Jisung's head back on my right thigh. He really slept through it all. Then I looked at Jimin and patted my left thigh. "Come on. You can put your head down there."
I could hardly believe I was really doing this. But Jimin wanted to stay up all night to make sure no zombie harmed us.
Jimin hesitated, but then rested his head on my thigh.
"Thank you hyung," he whispered, "good night."
I was about to reply, but he had already fallen asleep. I had to smile and stroked Jisung's hair once and Jimin's once.
"Good night."
