ELLA LOOKED, at the ceiling as the other three sleep " Hey, you asleep? " Percy asked. " not anymore " Ella lied. " I'm sorry " Percy apologized. " it's fine " she said.

" You and Thalia were really close, right? " Percy asked. " I mean she's my cousin? " Ella pointed out " Righttt, " Percy said " What was she like? "

" Why? " Ella asked. " she was the last forbidden kid before me, right? " Percy asked. " Well, I think " Ella said. " She must've dealt with the same kinda stuff " Percy continued. " She was tough " Ella told him " She knew, she was a forbidden kid, she just didn't care " Ella laughed a bit

" Like when we found, Annabeth, Luke and me cared for her right away, but Thalia she made her earn it " She explained " that's what I loved about her "

" That doesn't make a lot of sense to me " Percy mumbled but she still heard. " what doesn't make sense? " Ella asked. " the way you guys talk " Percy explained.

" Not like that— I mean the gods, the way they want us to think, gotta burn an offering to get a parent's attention, gotta beat up Clarisse, just to get my father to admit he's my father, it isn't supposed to work that way, people who are close to you, aren't supposed to treat you that way " Percy explained

" You wanna know why I left with Thalia? I have two siblings " She gets cut off by Percy " Does Thalia have any siblings? " Percy asked.

" Yeah a brother but not my point " Ella said " I was always hated by my parents " Ella looked up again " But after Thalia was considered " dangerous " from our family, my parents hated me more they despised me " she faked laugh.

" I guess my mom knew my dad cheated, with you know Aphrodite, my mom always hated me the most, she knew I wasn't her child " Ella explained " So I left with Thalia, I didn't even know I was a half blood yet, I just had to get out, I was seven "

" It isn't the gods who think that way, it's everybody, but at least with the gods you know the rules, show them respect and they'll be in your corner, no matter what " Ella told him, they hear Grover groans

" You know, you never told me why you wanted a quest " Percy said, " You wouldn't get it " Ella told him " I would, " Percy say, " you see, you just don't get it! " Ella scoffed

        ELLA LOOKED, out the window watching the yellowish-purpleish sky, Percy kept looking at the girl, wondering what exactly she was looking at

Grover was talking right next to Annabeth, and across from Ella and Percy " Two days until we reach Los Angeles " Grover explained " Plenty of time before our deadline to reach the underworld "

" Can I ask a dumb question? " Percy asked, getting the brunette next to him curious.  " it's like you need me to make fun of you " Annabeth said

" Your in cabin 17B? " The man asks, as both Ella and Percy looks at each other, The man then leads them to their cabin and they see it a total mess, the windows broken, the beds messed up, as well as the pillows and all the furniture. " You wanna explain? " the police officer asked

" Wait, you think we did this? " Percy asked. " Did you? " The older guy asks. " I mean—  how and why? " Percy stuttered totally confused.

" Sir, when we left to get breakfast, everything was intact " Grover said " we don't know what happened " we got a witness here, says she heard the window smash and then heard children voices " The officer pointed to some lady talking to another officer. " Oh come on " Percy said. " Can you tell me when you left the cabin " The man asked

" Yeah, we didn't do anything! " Annabeth said. " Are we under arrest? " Ella scoffed. " I don't think you want to take that tone with me, little girl " The officer told her, which made her even more mad, she glared at the man

" Are we under arrest? " She said in a harsher tone

        THEY ALL, waited at the same spot as earlier, for the police officer, Walker and Ella right next to each other, then across from them Annabeth and Grover " So we're just killing time? " Percy asked " Till we find out that guys like a werewolf or something, right? "

they then look over to the man, " I don't think he's a monster " both Annabeth and Ella say

" JINX! " Ella said then saw Annabeths look " not the time, ok, but you still owe me a Pepsi! "

" Pepsi? Blue cherry coke is wayyyy better " Percy said, " That's a thing? " Ella asked, as Percy nodded " What ahve you been drinking your whole life? " Percy sighed " I'm so giving you blue cherry coke as soon as this quest is over "

" I'm holding you onto that " Ella said.

" We are losing track of what's important! " Annabeth told the two. " So if he's not a monster, what's going on here? " Percy went back to the cop being a monster thing, " why would someone tear our room apart? "

" Maybe they were looking for something " Grover said. " We don't have anything " Percy said. " The people who think you stole Zeus master bolt might disagree " Annabeth explained. " Right " Percy said

" Well, look they're not gonna find something we don't have! " Grover points out the obvious. " either way, we're not spending all day answering questions in the St. Louis police station! we need to get out of this before we get delayed " Annabeth exclaimed

The " Witness " then walked up to them, and tapped Annabeth on the shoulder,  " D-do you mind if I sit?  " The lady asked, as she put her bag down then sat down next to Ella " You poor dears, your parents aren't here are they? isn't that right precious " she looks at her bag, which Ella was guessing was a dog or cat

" Don't children, get scared when they're all alone? It's okay, I'm a mom, I know how scared you must be " The lady then turns to the officer " excuse me, would you mind giving us a little space? I think your making them nervous "

the officer then left

" I want you to know, I don't think that you made the mess back there, I just wanted a moment alone with you " When Ella hears that she scooted closer to Percy, why did this lady have to sit next to her?

" There are some things I need you to understand " The lady said. " You have something on your jacket " Grover told her " it's looks like— it looks like glass "

Ella then realized " No one smashed out the windows from inside our cabin, someone smashed them in from the outside "

the dog starts grunting and whimpering " Hm, oh! Yes, sweetheart? " she then whispers something to the bag " I know, I know "  the four kids all look at each other

" This isn't your fault, but sadly your going to have to bear the burden of your parents' mistakes today " The lady tells us. " listen, lady I don't know who you are but I think I know what you are, we've ran across a few monsters like you and we've sent them all packing " Percy said.

The lady scoffed and chuckled a bit " M-monsters like me? " she laughed some more " Well.. of course they're like me, they are my children " the four all look up at this " Children? what does that mean" Percy asked. " The Mother of Monsters " Grover told Percy.

" Echidna " Ella said.

Echidna laughs, she then tries to shush her dog when it starts growling " Monsters is an odd word, considering my grandmother is your great-grandmother and this has always been a family story, but... to my eye, the demigod is the more dangerous creature, disruptive, violent, if I exist for anything is to stand in the way of monsters, like you " she looked at all of us one at a time

" My little on here, she's just a pup now, " she then whispers to her bag again " Today, you will be her prey " she looks at us " are you afraid yet? Oh! It's all right, fear is natural, it's also essential to the hunt, your fear, your doubt, your confusion I needed you to understand what was happening, so that she could track the scent, so that she could learn, and grow because... that's what a good mother does for her children, not that you would know "

when Echidna said that, Ella's jaw dropped, absolutely Percy knew how it felt to have a good mom, but Ella, Annabeth, and Grover, didn't really, then Ella realized she was talking about the fact that they weren't parents yet

the zipper started opening " you should run now "

the monster first launched at Ella, then Percy and was about the launch at Annabeth, until she stabbed the creature " No, sweetheart! Go! " Echidna yelled.

They all took this chance to run away " You Stop! " the cops yells to them.

      THEY WERE, running and running, Ella then saw a chance to get ahead and locked the door, " Percy! " Grover yelled and took something off Percy " What is that? " Annabeth asked. " Ella you have one to! " He said pointing to Ella's shirt

" it's a stinger! "

" Grover, do you know what kinda of monsters have one of those? " Annabeth asked " I don't know, I mean nothing good probably " He said

" Do you two feel okay? " Annabeth asked

" Yeah " Ella replied
" I think so why? " Percy asked

" Do you think it's poisonous or something " Percy asked " I'm not sure " Annabeth told him

they then saw something break the door as the lights flash, then a growl " WE GOTTA MOVE " Percy yelled

         THEY GOT, off the train " Why isn't is still chasing us? " Percy asked. " Why are you complaining? " Ella asked. " Echidna said she needed to practice its young, it won't go to far from their mother, but they still have our scent " Ella explained.  " she's learning to hunt, and this seems like the hunting part " Annabeth added on

" We aren't gonna be able to outrun them for very long " Grover points out. " We don't need to we just need a safe place to hide " Ella tells them, " Some please safe, any idea where we can find one of those? " Percy asked the girl, Ella then looked at Annabeth as she spoke up " I do "

" A sanctuary, dedicated to Athena, built by one her demigod children a long time ago " Annabeth explained, " there is an Athenian temple hidden somewhere in the middle of downtown, St. Louis? " Grover asked, " Yes " Annabeth said " Expect its not that hidden "

THEY FIND THEMSELF, standing in front of the Athenian building, Annabeth tells them all the details about the building, " So Poseidon's can't ruin it " Annabeth said, " Excuse me " Annabeth said trying to get through the people " This is how you show Athena your love "

" A monument to the power of perfection! " Annabeth tells the group " it's a monument to show other stuff, too " Grover says sassy, " your talking about what some humans want this place to be about, I'm talking about what it actually is " Annabeth tells Grover

" We're safe here, right? " Grover asked " No monsters can enter not even Echidna " Annabeth tells Grover, Grover then goes to try to get new train tickets

" Just because we're prey doesn't mean we need to be helpless " Grover said then walked away. " He doesn't like it, when people mess with animals " Percy said. " Yeah, I know " Annabeth replied, " I shouldn't have s—snapped at him, I just—"

" So, this is Athena's place? " Percy asked " Wonder if she's around " Be right down! Just going to the potty " " Percy mimicked a posh women, The two girls laughing " That was amazing " Ella told him

Percy then looked at the girl, " I have a gift " he says making the two girls laugh more, " I guess you were right " Percy said " We needed a safe place and your had one waiting, pretty lucky we happen to be in the right city for it " Percy added on

" Luck or fate? " Ella asked. " You know I think it's easier, if I just tell myself my mom cares " Annabeth said " I didn't mean it like that " Percy said.

" Well, I think I may be Aphrodite's favorite? " Ella said

" Look, I've only been a Demigod since.. last Saturday, you shouldn't listen to me, " Percy ignores the brunette. " you know, this is my mothers place, but a temple is a temple, maybe you could say hi to your dad while we're here, and your mom, Ella, maybe you can find out if your her favorite " Annabeth laughed a bit

" No thanks " Percy said. " What could it hurt? " Annabeth asked. " your things with your moms, I get it, it's different, it works for you two, but my father , I don't want anything from him, he had his chances, honestly you two done more for me in the past few days than my father has my whole life, if I have to stick with someone, I— " Percy explains

Ella and Percy then collapse on the floor, as Annabeth grabs Ella making Percy fall until Grover helped him up, " Guys! " Annabeth yelled

" WHAT HAPPENED? " Grover asked, " I think... I think those stinger things were poisonous, we got to get Percy to water! And Ella, Aphrodite gave you something for that, right? "

" It isn't working! And she's coming " Annabeth said

they look back to see, Echidna walking to them, they go inside, Grover carrying Percy, and Annabeth carrying Ella, " We have to get to the Alter! " Annabeth said " Where's that? " Grover asked, " The highest point! The best view! " Annabeth explained

" Okay, but what good is that going to do us? " Grover asked, " We're gonna go to the alter and we're going to ask my mom for help " Annabeth explained

" I thought we don't ask for help? " Percy asked, " come on! " Annabeth said, " Guys did you hear that? " Annabeth asked

" Hear what? " Ella and Percy asked. " Never mind, come on " Annabeth continued

they get into the first elevator they saw that was free " What was the back there? What did you hear? " Percy asked " She spoke to you, Alecto did that with me, back in the museum in New York, What did she say? "

They then saw Echidna walking toward them with the fucking chimera " Was that the Chimera? I think that was the chimera " Grover panics " How did the Chimera even get inside here? " Grover continues talking about the chimera

" How did any monster get inside here? "

" Annabeth? " Ella asked

" We're in a sanctuary, Athena would've had to let her in, but why would she do that? "

" Annabeth! " The pale girl calls out, " What did Echidna say to you? " The girl asks the question for Percy, since she knew he wanted to know

" She said my impertinence wounded my mothers pride, and that, that will be my doom " Annabeth explained, " impertinence what kind of— " Percy cuts himself off

" Medusas head was my fault! " Percy said, " I embarrassed my mother " Annabeth looked down, " But I'm the one who sent the head to Olympus! " Percy said " I signed the note and we'll Ella "

" And I went along with it! " Annabeth points out, " it embarrassed her, now she's angry "

" She won't help us " Ella said while rubbing the other girls back

" What are we going to do now? " Grover asked. " like Ella said she's not going to help us when we get to the top to save Percy " Annabeth replied, " No, I meant about Echidna and Chimera? " Grover asked " They're gonna be right behind us! "

The elevator door opens " We don't have much time, they'll be up here soon " Ella says as Annabeth helps her walk " and if my mother isn't going to protect us, then we'll just have to fight it out up here " Annabeth said, the two girls then saw tons of people there

" Oh no! " Grover said " We gotta get everyone outta here "

" Pull the fire alarm " Ella tells Annabeth as she does, everyone here's the fire alarm them starts leaving, Ella then takes her hand off Annabeth

" You three follow them down " Ella tells the three, " W-what no we're not splitting up " Grover and Annabeth both say, " Grover, Come on! " Ella grunts. " No,no,no,no we're all getting out here together! " Percy tells the girl, who was about to sacrifice herself

" No sacrifices! " Annabeth adds on, " We won't make it! The chimera is the " Demigod killer " " Ella explains, " it doesn't matter we started all together we're ending all together " Percy tells Ella

" Percy, someone has to stay behind to slow her down and buy everyone some time "Ella explained, The other three left the alter and was in a hallway as Ella was about to close the door " Grover, Annabeth help him down the stairs and get him to the river, and don't stop, not till you get to hades, not till you have the bolt, you hear me? " Ella said

Annabeth was now crying,

Percy shaked his head

And Grover knew she was in the right, he just didn't want her to be

" Okay, Go! " Ella says about to close the door " Wait! " Percy stopped her, he pulled out Riptide out his pocket " take this " he told her and waited for her to grab it

When Ella was about to take Riptide, Percy pulled her in and switched places with her, putting her in Grover's and Annabeth's arm and Percy quickly closed the door " Wait! " Ella said

" PERCY! " Both Annabeth and Grover yelled

" PERCY PLEASE! " Grover yelled

" PERCY!! " Annabeth yelled

" PERCY NO!! DON'T DO THIS, THEY'LL KILL YOU!! " Ella yelled

" They would've killed you too, right? " Percy said " Plus Poseidons never helped me before he's not going to start now "

" PERCY! " Ella yelled again, " I would've never made it to Hades— "

" PERCY! " Grover and Annabeth yelled

" PERCY, PLEASE, OPEN THE DOOR! " Ella yelled, her voice getting tired

" — But you can " he finishes his sentence

" PERCY " Ella yelled banging on the door

" And now you will " Percy said

" PERCY! " Annabeth yelled, but he wasn't paying attention anymore.
