CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
BREAK ALL THE RULES
SHE GLANCED UP FROM PEGGY when she saw Evelyn entering the tent. There was a look on the blonde's face that made Celeste frown slightly. The two woman stood up, taking a moment to look over the golden blonde who looked like a wreck. Celeste cocked her head slightly, deciding not to say anything, whilst Peggy chose the opposite approach.
"My god, you look like you haven't slept in years." Peggy spoke as she looked at the woman with a raised eyebrow. The girl had dark circles under her eyes, and a look of what almost seemed like fear dancing in the light blue ocean that was her irises.
"Evelyn, is everything alright?" Celeste gently questioned the girl, looking at her with slight concern and watching as the girl went and grabbed herself a cup of coffee before taking a sip of it and scrunching her nose up at the taste of it.
"Fine." Evelyn smiled before walking over to one of the tables and sitting down. Peggy and Celeste exchanged looks with one another before walking towards the girl and sitting at the same table as her. The blonde looked between the two and sighed as she removed the cup from her lips. "Alright, so I didn't get any sleep last night."
"May I ask why?" Peggy quizzed.
Evelyn softly sighed again. "Steve got in."
Celeste looked at the woman in surprise. She hadn't been expecting this. "He did?" Evelyn nodded her head.
"He's. . . he's one of the candidates." Evelyn reluctantly told them. "And he's in your hands, Peggy."
"You know that I wouldn't let anything happen to him." Peggy assured the woman. Evelyn looked up at met Peggy's eyes. Peggy offered the blonde a reassuring smile as she nodded her head. "All I will be doing is making him exercise, those are my orders. But no one will hurt him, if that's what you're worried about."
"I know you'll keep an eye out for him." Evelyn softly whispered. Celeste glanced between the two, biting the inside of her cheek to keep a smile from forming on her lips at the interaction. She watched as Evelyn checked the time before looking back towards the two. "We better get to our stations before Colonel happy-go-lucky finds a reason to yell at us." The two women smiled at the Rogers twin before agreeing with her. They all stood up and walked out of the tent, all heading their separate ways.
Standing there, and training her shoulders, she smiled sarcastically at one of them as they commented about the fact that had managed to get her as their trainer. Being the angel that she was, she forced the man to work ten times harder, just because there were times like this when she enjoyed watching the humans suffer under her hand. When it had finally ended and she was going home, a soft sigh fell from her lips.
"You look exhausted." Celeste turned her head at the sound of Bucky's voice, smiling gently at him as she took her shoes off and pulled her hair from its ponytail, ruffling it slightly as she made her way towards him.
"Is it that obvious?" She sighed, entering her bedroom and throwing her shoes in the closet. She sat down on the bed, laying back and allowing her blonde hair to fall around her head like a halo. Bucky leaned against the doorframe as he took a moment to stare at her, the woman he had grown so close with in such a short amount of time, the woman who was the reason why he didn't look at anyone else. She was his everything without her even knowing it.
"You gonna miss me?" The man questioned.
"You have no idea." She whispered, turning her head to look at him. "I'm surprised you aren't already gone."
"Departure got delayed." He excused. "I had to see my best girl one last time before I left."
She smiled at his words, sitting up from the bed before standing up and walking over towards him. She looked up at him, watching as he looked down at her with a small smile gracing his lips. God, how she so desperately wanted to kiss him, but she held back. "Well, your best girl appreciates that you stayed long enough for her to say goodbye."
He pulled her into a hug, and Celeste tightly hugged him back. They stood like that for a moment, holding one another, before Celeste finally managed to pulled herself away from him, smoothing out his jacket as she smiled that blinding smile that he always loved. "Be safe, okay? I want you back home in one piece."
He gave her a small salute. "Yes ma'am." She chuckled softly before taking a step back, watching as he turned on his heel and made his way towards the door. She watched him open the door, ready to leave, only for him to stop in his movement. Celeste frowned. "Bucky, is everything alright?"
He turned on his heel, walking back over towards the woman, cupping her face gently in his hands. "I'm coming back to you, alright?"
"I know." Celeste nodded her head. "Because I was scared you were about to kiss me goodbye, and then I would've had to send you through the wall." Bucky chuckled at this and Celeste smiled before grabbing the back of his neck, bringing his face towards her before she gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I'll see you soon, James."
Bucky nodded before walking once again, this time not looking back knowing that he would probably stay. Celeste watched as he left, shaking her head as she managed a small smile. "Making me break all the rules, James. I'm getting my ass kicked when I get back home." She softly sighed before turning on her ears and closing her bedroom door as she jumped in the shower, forcing all of her bad thoughts away and praying that he would come back home to her in one piece.
