CHAPTER NINETEEN:
BULLET PROOF

ONE BY ONE, THE HYDRA bases were going down. Steve, Celeste, Bucky, and the rest of the Howling Commandoes weren't kidding when they said they were going to kick ass. They killed anyone that tried to stop them, they destroyed the buildings, before reporting back to base and letting them know which one to take off the map. They were being filmed the entire time, and Celeste couldn't help the small smile that fell on her lips when she saw Steve had a picture of his sister placed on his compass. It warmed the angels heart.

Now, they all stood on a snowy mountain, preparing to zip-line onto a passing by train that held Zola as well as HYDRA equipment. Steve, Celeste, Bucky, and Gabe Jones were going to be the only ones that went whilst the others made sure to watch their backs.

Β  Β Β  "What is this called again?" Celeste frowned in confusion. "Zip-lining?"

Β  Β Β  "Remember when I made you ride the Cyclone at Coney Island?" Bucky suddenly asked Steve, simply nodding to Celeste's question.

Β  Β Β  "Yeah, and I threw up?"

Β  Β Β  "This isn't payback, is it?"

Β  Β Β  "Now why would I do that?" Steve mused.

Β  Β Β  "It can't be that bad." Celeste shrugged her shoulder, finding herself grabbing Bucky's hand and giving it a small squeeze as she muttered to herself, "Right?"

Β  Β Β  "We were right." Gabe spoke up. "Dr. Zola's on the train. HYDRA dispatcher gave him permission to open up the throttle. Wherever he's going, they must need him bad."

Β  Β Β  "Let's get going, because they're moving like the devil." Falsworth said.

Β  Β Β  "Ladies first?" Steve tried. Celeste cocked an eyebrow at him and Steve nodded in understanding. "We only got about a 10-second window. You miss that window, we're bugs on a windshield."

Β  Β Β  "Is that some form of pep-talk?" Celeste hummed. "Because if so, you're not making me feel any less nervous about this." And on Dernier's command, Steve went, then Celeste, then Bucky, and then Gabe who would make it to the front of the train. They were all crouched down, the fast wind whipping Celeste's hair making her wish she had put it up. The four crept along the top of the train until they made it to a ladder that would allow Steve, Celeste, and Bucky into the train. The three quickly entered, looking around and making sure they had their guns ready.

Β  Β Β  "You humans and your weird contraptions. I don't think I'll ever understand them." Celeste huffed, wondering who thought a box on wheels was a good form of transportation. Celeste and Bucky went one way whilst Steve went the other. They kept their guns up and their eyes constantly searched the train, prepared for an attack. Steve stopped in front of the doorway, Celeste and Bucky standing behind him. He slowly walked through the walkway and the two followed behind him only for the door to close, separating them. Steve turned around quickly, slamming his fist on the door as he looked at the two. Celeste swallowed thickly as she met Bucky's eyes.

Suddenly, a loud thump could be heard behind them and Celeste and Bucky were quick to aim their weapons and fire at the targets. There were two men and Celeste quickly shot at the one on the left whilst Bucky shot at the one on the right. The two hid behind containers, looking at one another as if to check if they were okay, gun shots being fired right above their heads.

Β  Β Β  "You alright?" Bucky called over the gunshots. He didn't like the fact that Celeste was on this mission, and he had tried several times to convince her to stay with Evelyn and Peggy, but the angel simply refused, claiming that she was an angel and that she could protect herself. And there was also the factor of her being Bucky's guardian angel, so she couldn't leave him in such a dangerous situation.

Β  Β Β  "Yeah! You?"

Β  Β Β  "Perfect!" He answered with a sarcastic smile. She chuckled in amusement.

Β  Β Β  "Switch?" Celeste breathed, meeting his eyes. He nodded before the two quickly stood up and switched places, aiming at their new targets. A bullet attempted to lodge itself into her shoulder, however it simply fell to the floor which was something that Bucky noticed. The two were quick to fire until they both ran out of bullets.

Β  Β Β  "When were you going to tell me you were bullet proof!" Bucky yelled. "I would've worried a little less if I knew that!"

Β  Β Β  "Can we talk about this when we make it out of here alive?" Celeste asked, hiding the amusement that wanted so desperately to form on her face. Bucky nodded before suddenly the door slid open and Steve held up a thing of ammo, tossing it to Bucky. Bucky loaded his gun and Steve quickly entered, pushing one of the containers into the guy, who tried to dodge it. But Bucky quickly aimed and shot him, killing him. Celeste let out a breath before joining the two.

Β  Β Β  "I had him on the ropes." Bucky said, the three looking at the now dead soldiers body.

Β  Β Β  "I know you did." Steve nodded. That's when he turned his head to look at Celeste. "Bullet proof, huh?"

Β  Β Β  "It never came up in conversation." Celeste shrugged her shoulders innocently.

Β  Β Β  "Being bullet proof doesn't usually come up in a normal conversation." Bucky pointed out.

Β  Β  Β Β  Suddenly, the sound of gun powering up caught their attention. Steve quickly pushed Celeste and Bucky behind of him, Bucky of course pushing Celeste behind of him as well making her roll her eyes, the two clearly forgetting about the conversation that took place. "Get back!" The shot went off, sending the three flying backwards. A hole was shot out of the side of the train, and a groan fell from Celeste's lips.

She opened her eyes, watching just in time for Bucky to grab Steve's shield that had landed in front of him, standing up and firing. Celeste's eyes widened as she quickly forced herself to stand up, but she wasn't fast enough. The blast was shot, sending Bucky flying out of the train. Celeste yelled for him, glaring at the metal soldier. Her eyes were glowing brightly before she quickly shoved her hands out, sending a blast of light towards the metal soldier, killing it.

Β  Β Β  "Bucky!" Celeste was quick to run towards the hole in the side of the train, a breath of relief falling when she saw that he was still holding on. She clenched her jaw before quickly grabbing onto the other railing, climbing closer to him. She held out her hand. "Bucky, grab my hand." He tried, their finger's brushed, and before he could try to reach for her again, the railing he was holding onto broke sending Bucky down with him. Celeste watched with wide eyes and an open mouth, tears filling her eyes before she turned her head to look at Steve who watched the whole thing. He was quick to pull her inside of the train, holding onto her as she allowed the shock of what just happened to take over her body.

Β  Β Β  Bucky was dead. She had failed.
