โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐, and Scott sat in the back, Elaine in the passengers seat and Stiles driving. There was only silence in the car as Stiles followed closely after Braeden who was riding ahead of them on her motorcycle. Elaine could feel Stiles' eyes constantly landing on her and she knew that he was worried about her, and was confused on her actions back in there. Elaine was confused by her own if she was being honest. All she knew was that she was panicking and she needed to know that her brother was alive and her first instinct was to kiss him because, well, because she loved him. She felt guilty for kissing him. She wished she could take it back, knowing exactly what was going to follow soon. She sighed and closed her eyes, placing her elbow on the door and leaning her head onto her hand. The silence was absolutely suffocating.
Malia leaned forwards, placing her head between Stiles and Elaine. She glanced between the two for a moment before breaking the silence. "Okay, I'll ask." Elaine opened her eyes and turned to look at the girl. "Who's Kate Argent?"
Kira raised her hand slightly. "Uh, I'd like to know, too."
"Well, we were at her funeral." Stiles answered. "So, I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground."
"She was never in it." Scott said, causing the group to look at him except for Stiles who only glanced at him through the mirror. He said nothing else.
"She was Allison's aunt." Lydia turned her head away from the window. "And a total sociopath."
Elaine didn't say anything. Kira looked over at Scott, noticing the look on his face. "You don't have to talk about it now if you don't want to."
Malia looked at Kira like she was crazy. "Uh, yes he does."
"Malia." Elaine warned, closing her eyes as she leaned back against the window.
"Yeah, she's right." Scott whispered. "You guys should know. You need to know."
"Alright." Stiles started. "Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family."
"Some of them survived. Like Cora and Peter." Scott continued.
"A very angry Peter." Lydia added.
"That's one word for it." Elaine muttered.
"Yeah, he's the one who bit and turned me." Scott looked over at Elaine. "He's also the one that killed Elaine and made her witch side appear."
"And he's also the one who caught up to Kate and killed her." Lydia said, staring blankly ahead of her.
"And we saw her buried." Stiles finished.
"No. That's not true." Elaine shook her head. "You saw a casket, remember? She wasn't in it."
"You weren't even there, how could you possibly know that?" Stiles asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
"I'm literally a witch, Stiles." Elaine opened her eyes and looked at him with a blank expression. He pressed his lips together in a thin line and nodded.
"The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure she was really dead." Scott continued. "Her body was healing more and more as she got closer to the full moon. She was coming back. So they switched out the bodies. They took her. If a hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras, they treat the code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it."
Malia shrugged. "Good for her. I wouldn't do it either."
"Would you kill half a dozen people to get out? Because that's what she did."
Malia didn't say anything. Kira looked at him. "So, Kate's a werewolf now?"
"I don't know." Scott answered honestly. "You know, there's a saying. Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are."
Lydia scoffed. "What kind of shape is a sociopathic bitch?" Elaine managed an amused smile at this. She was suddenly jerked upwards as the jeep started malfunctioning. Slowly they came to a stop. Elaine and Stiles quickly jumped out with the others climbing out as well.
Braeden came back around, stopping in front of the now unmoving jeep. "What happened?"
"I don't know." Stiles answered. "It felt like we hit something."
"Scott, we need to get there by night. It's too dangerous otherwise."
Scott paused, turning his head to look at Stiles and then his sister. Stiles waved him off and Elaine nodded her head. "Go. We'll be okay here."
"Not without you." Scott shook his head.
"Dude, someone needs to find Derek." Stiles told him. "We'll figure something out. We always do. Just go." Scott looked at him, glancing towards his sister who nodded reassuringly at him. After a moment Scott sighed and nodded, headed towards Braeden. Kira suddenly called his name, running towards him. Elaine just smirked and then turned back towards the jeep, popping the hood open. She then noticed something.
"You hit something alright." Elaine chuckled. "Or rather, something hit us." She kneeled down, pulling the bone shard from the car. She held it up, inspecting it in her hand. Stiles reached forwards, grabbing the bone from her hand and looking at it with furrowed eyebrows. He glanced at Elaine before he started working on the jeep. Slowly the sun started to set and Lydia was getting annoyed.
"Maybe we should just walk."
Stiles paused, taking the wrench from his mouth and pointing at her with it. "Hey, I will never abandon this jeep, okay. You understand me? Ever. Ever." He went back to working on it, tapping the tool box, grabbing Lydia's attention and causing the girl to roll her eyes as she started handing him tools.
Suddenly, Elaine's ears perked up. A smell filled her nose that she couldn't quite decipher. "Work faster, Stiles." Elaine calmly warned, turning her head towards the direction it was coming from. "I don't think we're alone out here." Slowly the light faded from the sky and Stiles instructed Lydia to hold the flashlight so that he could see to keep working.
"Lydia, could you please hold the light still for a second." Stiles huffed, annoyed. "It's really hard to see anything if you keep shaking it like that."
Lydia looked at him in disbelief. "I'm shaking it like this because we're in the middle of nowhere with your broken down jeep and we're being attacked by yet another razor-clawed monster! And I'm terrified."
"Well, just be slightly less terrified." He pulled something out of the jeep. "And hold this." He handed it to Lydia who looked at it with wide eyes.
"What's this?"
Stiles paused. "I don't know. I'm hoping it's not important."
"Oh, God."
Meanwhile, Elaine, Malia, and Kira were all standing there, keeping watch. They were keeping their eyes open for any sign of someone else out there. Kira kept her eyes narrowed as she asked, "Anything?"
"It's too hard to see." Malia honest. "We should've brought another flashlight."
"Wait, I might have something that can help." Elaine breathed, grabbing their attention. Her eyes glowed purple as she held out her right hand before making a circle around it with her left and saying, "post tenebras spero lucem." A ball of light appeared in her hand, allowing them the chance to see more around them. At the same time, both Elaine and Malia saw a figure. "Malia, no!" Elaine yelled as the girls eyes turned blue and she was running forwards. Without hesitation Elaine chased after her, ignoring Stiles yells.
ย ย ย Elaine ran, catching up to Malia and trying to stop her. And then she caught sight of the beast and as an instinct she grabbed onto Malia, threw her out of the way, and gasping as claws shred across her skin. She fell to the ground but before the creature could run away the purple returned to her eyes and she held out her hand "fluctus inpulsa!" Waves of magic flew from her hand and she watched her target go flying before running away. She groaned, laying on the ground and hissing as pain vibrated through her body.
"Elaine!" Kira called, running over to the girl and kneeling down beside her with Malia at her side. "What the hell happened?"
"I don't know. I didn't see it." Elaine gritted out.
"What we do know is that it's big and it's fast." Malia said, grabbing Elaine and pulling her up. Her eyes scanned over the girl with worry.
"And it cuts deep." Elaine added weakly. The sound of the jeep starting grabbed their attention. "Come on." Elaine nodded, walking forwards with Malia and Kira following her.
"Elaine." Stiles immediately runs over to her, eyes narrowed in on the blood seeping from her shirt. "Are you okay? What the hell happened?"
Elaine grabbed his upper arm to steady herself. She smiled gently at him. "I'm okay. I'm okay. Let's just go, yeah?" Stiles looked at her for a moment before nodding. The group of five climbed into the vehicle and Stiles immediately sped off.
"You. . ." Stiles yelled, pointing at Malia. "You never do that again. And you never follow after her because that happens." He pointed towards Elaine who only rolled her eyes.
"Stiles, I was protecting her."
"Yeah, and you could've gotten clawed to death!" He exclaimed. "How many times do I have to tell you that I can't watch you die. Not again."
"Stiles. . ." Elaine sighed before changing the subject and looking at Malia. "He's right. Don't ever do that again."
"Do what?" Malia frowned.
"I thought you just took off. I thought you were running." Stiles snapped.
"I was running." Malia frowned, confused as to why he was upset with her.
"No, I mean, I thought you were leaving." Stiles sighed. "And if you go, that one will follow because she worries about everyone other than herself."
"I wouldn't leave without you." Malia furrowed her eyebrows. "I wouldn't leave without either of you." She glanced over at Elaine.
"Really?" Stiles asked, surprised.
"I would never leave without you." Malia looked between the two. The two that have done everything to protect her since she's been human. She then looked at Kira and Lydia. "Them I would leave." Elaine smiled in amusement, shaking her head.
"Yeah. Uh, it's progress." Stiles quickly told the two and Elaine smiled even more.
Lydia's eyes narrowed in on the scratch on Elaine's torso. "That doesn't look too good."
"It's okay." Elaine waved off.
"Are you sure?" Kira asked. "That looks deep."
"I've literally died and come back. I think I can handle a small scratch."
Lydia decided to change the subject. "You didn't see anything?"
"Barely." Malia said, shaking her head. "It had a strong scent, though."
"Like what?" Stiles asked.
"Like death."
Stiles heads towards the church, swerving through the destroyed buildings before coming to a stop right in front of the churches doors. As he does so, Scott and Braeden walk out carrying someone. Elaine exchanges a glance with Stiles before they both go out, making their way over to them. The other three followed after them.
"Who the hell. . ." Elaine trailed off when she noticed a young boy instead of Derek.
"Is that him?" Malia questioned. "Is that Derek?"
"Uh. . . sort of." Stiles answered and that's when Elaine realized that it was Derek. Except, the adult Derek that they knew was now suddenly a teenager again.
