𝐂𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐋𝐘𝐍 yelled in pain, her jaw fell slack, those knuckles could've been mistaken for iron as she held her mouth. Mai felt a throbbing in the back of her head, it was painful and it felt as though it was going to fall off but she acted like a animal in need of food. She snarled at the woman who had fell back into the wall and snatched a pair of scissors which had been used to cut her clothing.

The commander let out a chocked gasp as Mai's strong forearm rested tightly against her throat, the other hand holding the scissors against the stomach of her uniform. She pressed it harder against the material to make certain that Caitlyn felt the sharp point. Mai knew she did when she heard her breath hitch and felt her middle tense at the feeling.

Caitlyn could feel Mai's panting and ragged breaths against her cheeks, she had stood up to quick. Though, it was the danger in her eyes that caused Caitlyn to shrink back on herself as it was as if she was looking into an abyss of hatred. Mai glared down to her with her brows scrunched tightly and teeth bared as she pushed her forearm harder into her throat.

"Why the fuck am I here?" Mai gritted out bitterly with her leg pushing deeper into the wall, Caitlyn's legs were either side of her knee. The enforcers palms were backed up against the wall as she pressed her body further into the wallpaper.

Mai could already feel her eyelids failing her as they fluttered slightly though she gripped the handle of the scissors tighter. The back of her head felt as though it was being weighed down and tugging on her scalp. Caitlyn caught the twitch in her eye and how her face concealed her pain and sighed softly.

"Can you sit down ple-"

"Don't you dare," Mai glowered lowly until she heard the scissors puncture her uniform and graze her flesh painfully. Caitlyn let out a low groan at the contact, "tell me what to do."

Caitlyn nodded slightly at her words but Mai's glare didn't subdue, she grounded her teeth and hardened her eyes. Though, she felt the pain of her injuries win over her hatred and her grip on the scissors and Caitlyn's neck started to waver. Mai pushed off of the girl roughly, the metal slightly sliced the skin on Caitlyn's stomach.

Though, she didn't care as her eyes were wide in alarm when Mai used one hand to grip the back of her head and the other to hold onto the edge of the bed. She breathed heavily, her breaths coming out in pants almost and that's when Caitlyn noticed her tattoos. Her gaze dragged itself over the heads of the two dragons, the colour wheel Mai chose made her heart clench, though the barrette she wore made it impossible for her to see the writing underneath. The tattoo seemed to suit the girls body perfectly, she took a voluntary step closer but Mai heard her heel echo on the floor and stuck the hand out that still gripped the scissors tightly, her knuckles turning white in anger.

"Don't touch me," she bit out without looking before shakily raising to her feet and rounding the bed to sit on the end.

Caitlyn watched her, looming behind her wearily, ready to catch her if she fell forwards. Her spite towards Caitlyn made her chest clench painfully though she pushed it aside, Mai had every right to be angered with her. Mai appeared awkward in the room around her, she didn't fit its appearance with its clean cut velvets or soft linen sheets. She was rough and jagged, not only on the outside but the inside and she knew that the inside was just as ugly as the outside.

The tension in the room was thick and un formidable, it weighed heavy in the room and made Mai clench her jaw tightly. She felt Caitlyn's gaze on her, it was hot and irrevocable making it hard for her to shake off and ignore as she stared into the fire which was unlit.

Until a small, mewl made her look down to see Link stretching himself up her shin as he prodded her clothed leg with his paws. A seemingly relived breath left her as she leaned down, her face grimacing in pain though she tilted her head so Caitlyn couldn't see and cupped him to her chest.

"Good boy," she murmured into his fur, the fear that clutched onto her chest slightly evaporated. She placed the make shift weapon on the side of the bed, vacating any chance of the enforcer sitting there but still close to her thigh so she could grab it.

"He was frightened for you," Caitlyn began softly as she slowly walked to stand to the side of Mai who still hadn't glanced her way. "And so was I."

Mai scoffed, she could sense the fight within her arising so she set the kitten behind her. "Don't pretend to care now," she snapped with her fists tightening into the fabric of her pants.

Caitlyn was desperate for her to look at her again, with hatred or disgust, she just wanted her to look at her. "Mai, I do care for you," she took another step forwards but stopped when she saw her put her hand over the edge of the scissors and sighed, uttering her words more gently. "I'm not going to hurt you."

Mai couldn't help but spiteful scoff that sounded as though she had been working in the coal mines. Without missing a beat she finally lifted her gaze to meet Caitlyn's, "you said that last time."

As their eyes met Caitlyn felt her heart plummeting further into her body, her entire person filling with dread. Mai didn't stare at her with an abundance of aggravation but rather dismal eyes that seemed to have lost their warm glow, or maybe that was just because of who she was looking at. Caitlyn didn't want either of them to be true.

"Mai," Caitlyn began, her voice trudged deeply with thick emotion. "I'm sorry," Mai turned her head away, "I was enraged and I never should have struck you," the words made her sick as she scrunched her face but slowly walked up to Mai until she was stood in front of her. She saw how her jaw clenched and how she tried to play it off as though Caitlyn weren't stood in front of her, "please, I'm sorry, Mai."

She looked up and Mai felt her chest tightening, she caught the unshed tears shimmering in Caitlyn's eyes making them appear more blue. Mai grunted using her arm to swipe her aside as she stood up to stand by the window.

"That's not even the worst thing, Caitlyn," Mai's voice was monotone but it cut through the atmosphere with malice. "Your soldiers have tormented my people," she spun to now lean against the window so she could look at her.

A stern look crossed Caitlyn's face, in truth she wasn't in charge of the harsh punishments installed, Ambessa was.

Mai's face further contorted to one of disgust, "what are you even wearing?"

Caitlyn looked down at her uniform, it was polished and refined which reeked of the wealthy aristocrats that Mai despised so much.

"Does it have a cape to go with it?" Mai mocked though in Caitlyn's silence and when she saw her awkwardly shuffle she rolled her eyes. "Bloody hell it does." She groaned but fell more into the wall behind her whilst reaching to hold the back of her head where she felt the stitches.

Caitlyn looked more weary of her and she desperately wanted Mai to head her words and rest. Her plea looked clear in her expression as Mai gritted her teeth in spite and pushed herself off the wall, hiding her wince as she stood tall again, "I'm fine," she gruffly added. "I need to get out of here."

Caitlyn forced herself in Mai's pathway and the woman looked over her with a tempering expression. "You can't go out like," she trailed off slightly with her eyes lowering and Mai followed her gaze.

"This is ridiculous," Mai muttered spitefully, the annoyance resurfacing once more as she ignored the pang in her head. She went for the door and jarred the handle with a rough tug but it didn't budge, she huffed through gritted teeth.

Caitlyn stood in the centre of the room with a tired though slightly pitiful look, Mai looked down to see a row of keys on an all too familiar belt.

"Open the door," Mai didn't look over her shoulder to face Caitlyn.

She already began to shake her head, "you need to rest."

Mai scoffed and kicks the door with her foot as she turned, "and whose fault is that?" She narrowed her eyes, "your little toys did this to me under your orders."

Caitlyn's face soured her own voice raising, "I had no idea they would use such violence against you, which they are reaping the consequences for." Her face screamed seriousness and Mai almost didnt believe that Caitlyn would have shamed her officers. Though the fierceness in her gaze made Mai hold her tongue and instead she pointed to the door once again.

"Open the door, Caitlyn," she tightened her voice and clenched her fists tightly.

Caitlyn's nose flared and she stared down Mai, "you need rest," she bit back in the same tone.

Mai scoffed, "you and your orders!" She threw her hands up in the air. "It may be easy for you to command those out there but with me you will find that I do not bend so easily."

Caitlyn felt her cheeks flushing, "Mai even if you were fine you cannot go out like that."

Mai didn't even have a shirt on, only a barrette, Mai's gaze flickered back up to meet Caitlyn's but her line of sight was still engrossed on how the pants rested low on her hips.  Her abdominals may have been littered with eye catching scars and sores but by gods she still looked impeccable.

Mai caught her stare and breathed heavily letting her own eyes wander over Caitlyn's slim frame. Even in that stupid uniform she appeared immaculate, she appeared to stand taller than before. Perhaps her new found power gave her a sense of ownership in the space she conquered around her. Her legs were clad in high waisted black pants and the blue and gold uniform that Mai had learnt to despise was cut clean to fit her waist and globed her arms perfectly.

Their eyes met and their breaths began to sync with one another, stuttering hearts beating faster.

Caitlyn crept forwards and Mai copied her movements, "Mai," Caitlyn began almost breathlessly. They were a hands length apart, their eyes hadn't left one another, the tension between them growing until it was palpable. A thinning thread that stretched deliciously as Mai's eyes hooded themselves. "I-

"No," Mai murmured softly, her husky voice making Caitlyn shiver softly at the sound, "don't talk."

Caitlyn sighed a slow and sensual breath that Mai felt brush against her lips as she loomed over, her tall frame acting as a canopy for Caitlyn's vision. All she could see was Mai.

Mai's left hand wandered upwards as she cupped Caitlyn's sharp jaw in her palm, her thumb daintily brushing over the high cheekbone. Caitlyn leaned into her touch with her eyes shutting in solace at the contact. Her own hand reached up to wrap around Mai's forearm, the feel of the strong muscle trembling beneath her fingertips made butterflies arise in her stomach.

She leaned down, close to Caitlyn's ear till her lips brushed the skin so enticingly it made Caitlyn shiver at the feel. Her opposing hand gripped at Caitlyn's waist and pulled her closer till there hips met with a firm tug.

Caitlyn swallowed thickly and rested her other hand atop her sturdy shoulder, her eyes subconsciously manoeuvring over the tattoo behind her ear and scars down her other shoulder.

"Mai," Caitlyn trailed off, unconfident in her own voice as she sighed her name wistfully.

"Yes, sweetheart?" Mai didn't kiss her skin but allowed her nose and lips to make a pathway under her jaw and further down her neck.

Caitlyn felt her breath hitch at the candied name Mai had called her when they had first become acquainted. It had been so long since she reminisced the old feelings that resurfaced at the softness in which Mai called her, sweetheart.

Though, in a swift and sudden move Mai yanked the hand away that held her jaw and snatched the keys on her belt. The hand on her waist reeled back into a fist before she punched her solar plexus, hard, hard enough for Caitlyn to let out a loud gasp and fall to the floor as she clutched her stomach.

Mai swung the chain of keys around on one finger before she stood over Caitlyn with a small, beguiling smirk. She leant down and hooked a finger under the girls jaw, there were tears in her eyes as the wind had been knocked out of her. Her breath coming out in short pants as she tried to regulate her breathing, that only increased the coyness on Mai's features.

"Now we're even," Mai sounded, the glint in her eye wreaking of mischief.

She rose to her feet and unhooked a black coat from the back of the green chair before quickly twisting the key and running out the door.

Caitlyn still clutched her stomach, the punch was heavy enough to completely suck all the air from her lungs. Still her teeth shined brightly as she stared ahead at the open door, a small meow made her tilt her head to the side.

Link stretched lazily before trotting after Mai and Caitlyn groaned loudly before rising to her feet, she needed to make certain Mai could get out without passing out.

𝐌𝐀𝐈 darted down the corridors, the jacket hastily swung around her shoulders though as she went to turn a corner at the end of the corridor stood three enforcers. She grimaced and spun on her heel as quietly as she could whilst trying to creep back round the corner.

"Stop!"

A mechanical sounding voice bellowed from behind her either authority and Mai groaned loudly before bolting down the other corridor. Her eyes locked on a door that was ajar and she swung it open before slamming it shut behind her.

The sound rattled her head, she groaned in pain as she leant her ear up close to the door.

"This way!" She heard one shout before several heavy booted footsteps followed. Only when she heard them grow quieter did she finally sigh aloud and relax her forehead against the door.

Mai stood straight with small pants leaving her but when she turned she froze, her eyes wide as she stared at the scene before her.

Councillor Medarda had a vase in her grasp and she looked ready to throw it, her eyes matched the surprise in Mai's. Her chest was heaving too as if she'd just ran down flights of stairs, there were several smashed objects around the room including a chair with only three legs.

She casted her eyes between Mel and a tall muscular woman with thick white scars, she stared at Mai in alarm. Without a thought she squared the distance between them her arms opening wide as she bent her knees ever so slightly to become eye level with the girl.

"You're awake," her voice seemed to crack whilst she skimmed her gaze over her form, worry glazed over her eyes and etched in her tone.

Mai stared at her in confusion, her steps skittering further back into the door that made a look of heartache pass the tall woman's face. She shifted her eyes to the floor and cleared her throat gruffly before taking steps back, her fists clenching as if it caused her pain.

"I suppose there is no chance you'd remember me," she still searched Mai's eyes, she looked for a flash, even a glimpse of familiarity. Nothing.

"How do you know me?" Mai murmured curiously, surely now she should have ran out the door. Headed straight for the doors and across the busy halls until she reached the sewer systems but she felt a tug in her heart that etched to understand more.

The woman's stare was like iron, it was unmoving and stern much like the aura she radiated around her. She wreaked of a woman who had only ever experienced bloodshed and war.

For a moment she paused, Mai watched the muscles in her jaw clench until she saw Mel walking forwards out of the corner of her eye. She settled the vase down on the coffee table, one of the only things not destroyed in her wrath.

She stared at Mai with tears in her eyes, her hands clasped in front of her to not appear formal but to rather hold herself together.

"Mai, she is Ambessa, my mother," she bit out the last word with less tenderness and Ambessa glanced to her with the corner of her eye. "And you," Mel swallowed thickly, like the words carried so much weight to even speak. "You are my sister," she let out a watery grin, "you are her daughter."

Mel felt her heart stop entirely, a pit opened in the bottom of her stomach and she wanted the ground to swallow her whole. What. The. Fuck.

Mai's mouth dropped, before she shut her eyes and shuck her head, the pain grew greater by the moment. "Look I know we sort of look alike and all but just because I'm black doesn't mean I'm your long lost kid," Mai awkwardly played with with the black buttons on the coat and suddenly realised she had stolen Caitlyn's.

Mel wiped her eyes with her palms and Ambessa let a small smile slip. "I understand, child but tell me, would I not know if my daughter had a birthmark of a line across her wrist."

Mai's face paled, her mouth dried up, "this isn't possible." She continued to re announce the words that regurgitated in her brain although she felt the blood rushing there and she was becoming light headed.

Ambessa went to take a step forwards but Mel close the distance and sent a sharp look to her mother before her face morphed into a softer one as she looked to Mai.

"It is, I know it's a lot to believe-

"No, you don't understand," Mai bit back more sharply to get her point across, "my parents were killed and then I lost my dad all over again."

Mel appeared more desperate, "no, those people were kind enough to take you in after you were," Mel stopped herself and sent a heavy glare to Ambessa who was stood tall her gaze set on the opposing wall trying to appear stern. "Do you want to tell her or shall I?" Mai caught the sneer in her words and felt the weight of the heavy silence.

Mel scoffed loudly and continued, "as expected," she turned to Mai, "all this time I thought you were lost to us, stolen by the Demacian's." She saw the confusion in Mai's eyes as she furrowed her brows and huffed, she didn't even know her own blood.

"Mel, that is enough!" Ambessa snapped loud enough to sound like a crackle of lightning that split the air.

Mai looked over to her and raised her chin higher, "I deserve to know this," she argued back. Ambessa's eyes widened slightly and Mel looked back to her sister, the blood of the defiant ran through her.

"And it sickens me to say," Mel churned as she held her stomach.

"Mel," Ambessa lowered her tone and sounded almost pleading though it was impossible to tell as her fists shook in diluted anger.

"But she," Mel dug her finger in their mother's direction, "sent you away all to start a war to cover her own arse."

Mai felt a sharp pang in her lungs, "what?" She braced herself against the back of the door, her own stomach contorting uncomfortably.

Ambessa pinched the bridge of her nose, "I did what I had to do for the benefits of Noxus."

Mel scoffed even louder, turning on her heel in a flurry to face her mother but Mai had beat her to it with her words.

"You sent me away to start a war?" Mai looked besotted with herself as she tried to make sense of the situation.

"I do not expect you to understand but I had to do it," Ambessa tried to reason. Though, Mai's gaze was unmoved only filled with apathy and Mel took a step in front of her as an attempt to shield her from her mother's view. "They would have taken you, either one of you, I did something about it before they could."

"No, you lied all this time to hide your own transgressions for your own selfish desires for war." Mel spat out and stared up at her mother with a burning resentment that Ambessa returned with a stern look.

"I'm warning you, child," she glowered down to Mel.

"This whole time," Mai's scratchy voice made her look up to see her staring into her soul. Eyes darkened and nearly black, "my whole life could've been-," it could have been so different. "How could you send me away?" Mai raised her voice, a cry of distress sounding like a wounded lamb.

Ambessa clenched her jaw, trying to remain composed, "it was for Noxus, it was for your protection, I had to send you away."

"My protection?" Mai fumbled the word, "look at what it did to me!" She roughly tugged down the side of the coat where her scarred shoulder lay and blinded it in her mother's face.

Mel's whole frame tensed with her features scrunching in pain as she grazed over her sisters wounds. A pity in her that took root deep in her core till it forced her eyes to diver to the floor.

Ambessa appeared to be carved out of stone, her muscles tense and expression frozen which wreaked of distraught. The bile trudged up the values in her throat as she swallowed it down harshly. The sight of her blood, her own child so besotted with herself, the contrast between the two children as she flickered her gaze between Mai and Mel couldn't have been greater.

"Niah-"

Ambessa began but was cut off by a loud hiss of her teeth, "my name is Mai," the girl repeated more sternly with her chin held high as she covered her shoulder again. "And you are not my mother any more than you are my sister," she casted a flash of a glance to Mel whose eyes watered quickly.

She turned once more and slammed the door, the handle fell from the wood and landed onto the floor with a loud clang. Shadowing her hurrying footsteps as the two Noxian woman stood still in the silence Mai left.

Mai created a trail of knocked out enforcers in her wake, she was like a machine her fists made of iron and forged with impenetrable steel. Her face was blank, her steps light though carrying the heavy weight of her body as it manoeuvred further down the steps. Until she reached a side door, a quick and quiet exit that would lead to the side ally where the sewers were.

She fumbled with the lock when she heard the cocking of a gun behind her and stilled.

"Get back to your-" His voice turned into a croak and his body thudded when it collided with the floor as a loud gunshot rang out.

Mai craned her back to see red pooling round him as he lay face down. She looked up to see her salvation, her saviour and damnation staring down back at her with her crystal eyes and the smoking of a gun barrel.

However, Caitlyn shifted the barrel to Mai and for a split second she thought she'd taken the punch to the jaw much too serious. She remained unmoved as the shot rag out, the splitting of the wind grazed her knuckles and split the lock in two.

The Kiramman stood tall, her face trying to remain undeserving of expression though the twinkle in her eye as she stared down at Mai was irreplaceable.

"Go," she voiced though it sounded impassive, as if it strained her throat.

Come with me Mai wanted to fire back but she clenched her fists, the middle of her brows creasing slightly. She turned with clenched fists before running out the building her heavy hands leaving the door ajar. Caitlyn could only lean herself slightly forwards as she tried to catch the last glimpses of the woman from Zaun.
