04. Oh Lydia....
04. Oh Lydia....
"Who the hell would create this torture?" I ask, while wiping stray tears away from my eyes, and not even caring that I was ruining Lydia's perfect eye makeup that she spent forever on.
"His name is Nicholas Sparks, but I like to call him Satan." Lydia tells me before standing up, and getting The Notebook out of the d.v.d player and putting it safely inside of its case and back to its place on the shelf.
"But what I don't get is how you have never seen The Notebook before!" The strawberry blonde exclaims as she drags me up the stairs.
"Well I could have, just don't remember it. Well, I guess I don't remember anything including my family, friends, what happened to me, what happened to them, why I lost my memory, where I used to live etc. etc...." I say while rolling my eyes and trying to stop thinking about it before I start crying, and this time not from a ridiculous romance movie.
Out of the corner of my eye I can see Lydia giving me a look of sympathy. Lydia Martin, feeling sorry for me. What has this world come to? "Oh, don't give me that look, Martin." I mumble and enter my room.
Lydia follows me and makes a beeline for the closet, already planning her look for me the next day. If tomorrow was filled with more stares and whispers I think I was going to lose my mind. I got back to thinking about why Stiles had lied to me earlier today, and what he was hiding. But at the same time I couldn't help but think that I just met the poor kid a few days ago and that it really wasn't my business, but this felt important. And I was going to follow what I thought was important, I didn't really have much of a choice anyway, for all I know it could lead me to find out the truth about myself.
Varies of clothes are tossed and thrown all around the room, some of the things were cute but it just wasn't doing it for the Lydia Martin, which concerned me considering these were all her clothes. She kept muttering about how she needed to go shopping, but the thousands of dollars in her closet thought otherwise. A couple times a article of clothing smacked me square in the face, causing me to huff in anger. "Lydia." I said trying to catch her attention.
"Shh." Lydia commanded me as she picked up a black lace skirt.
"Lydia." I try again.
"This could work, I could work with this. Okay... where is that blue sweater." Lydia mumbled, ignoring me. Again.
"Lydia!" I say, just wanting to go sleep.
"Aha! This... this is a master piece, Persephone!" She turned toward me. She held up the black lace layered skirt, and a dark blue sweater with white lace on the side the climbed up to right below the chest area. I gotta admit it was really cute, but that wasn't the point. I wanted sleep.
"Yes, perfect! No can you get out so I can actually get more then just a couple hours of sleep? Please?" I say, standing up to go shake the girls shoulders to make a point.
"Sleep is for the weak! Beauty takes time." She hums, then goes through the bathroom into her own room to find shoes.
"Oh god please help me." I reply before sagging to the ground, curling up into a ball and deciding that the ground was comfy enough, and closed my eyes.
🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘
It was dark.
The inky darkness swarmed around me, it was everywhere. I couldn't see. It was so dark that I couldn't even tell if my eyes were open or not. No matter how many times I blinked it didn't make much of a difference.
Running. It felt like I was running. Running for my life, perhaps I was.
I could hear footsteps, the loudest was mine. They were thundering against the dried up dead leaves. I flinched every time that a branch snapped, and I could feel myself glancing behind me every five seconds. Was someone chasing me?
I knew I was running, dodging trees, and ducking under branches that I couldn't see until it was almost too late. I tried to stop, to see what was happening, but I couldn't. That's when I realized I couldn't do anything. I couldn't move my arms, unless it was a command to duck, or swat at a stray branch. I could feel my arms stinging as the twigs and branches cut my skin from running through them so fast, but I couldn't find the urge to care.
My legs were burning, they were burning so bad. How long have I been running? There was a burning sensation on my shoulder but I ignored that too. My heart was racing against myself, almost beating out of my chest from running so hard, and from how terrified I felt. I knew I was terrified, I was scared for my life, but no matter how hard I tried to rack my brain the reason why just wouldn't show itself. It was buried, and it was buried deep. And part of me knew that I didn't want to to know why, but the other part is almost desperate for all of the answers.
As I got deeper into the woods, I could faintly see the moon above me, it was a full moon. For some reason I felt safe, like the moon would protect me from whatever was chasing me, to whatever dangers could be lurking in the darkness.
I felt like it was protecting me from myself.
In the back of my mind I was registering that footsteps were thundering behind me, and that they were getting closer. And they were getting closer fast. I felt myself suddenly turning to the right, almost ramming right into a tall tree. The darkness was slowly starting to ease up as my eyes adjusted. I could see outlines of the trees ahead, and I could see the dirt ground, I was trying to decide if it was better to look at the ground to make sure I didn't trip over something, or looking ahead to make sure I didn't run into anything. But it was too late as I smashed into the ground, hands outwards trying to catch my fall.
Almost instantly, I could feel the pain in both of my wrists. They were definitely sprained. As the footsteps were as close as ever, I knew that I was done with. I wanted to scream at myself to run, to get out, to get the hell away from there, but I wasn't budging.
Two pairs of feet got into my line of vision. I was hyperventilating by now. I was going to die. After all this time I was going to actually die. "Not so powerful now, eh?" One of the men whispered to me. The other one laughed a dry humorless laugh.
"Gotta admit though, I lasted a lot longer then you thought I would, eh?" I mocked them. My eyes zeroed in on a small pistol that was wedged in the mans boot. The guy leaned down, I could feel myself try and roll away, but my whole body ached and refused.
"Maybe." The guy muttered. "But still not good enough. Admit it. You are going to die. You should have stopped trying a long time ago, you are a monster. One of the worst. You need to stick to the campfire stories and to all the childrens nightmares. The real life version isn't very nice."
"I've never done anything wrong! Why can't you and all your friends understand that?" I whimper out as cold metal is pressed against my temple, I didn't need to look to know it was a gun. "Not yet." The second guy corrected me. "But you will."
"No I won't! I'm not like any of my family, I'm not even the same thing that they are!" I try to persuade them again.
"You're right." Thing 1 said. "You're worse."
I heard the safety click off, the guys finger itching along the trigger. A malicious smile on his face as he thought about pulling the trigger then and there.
"If anyone is the monster, it's you. You are the one killing an innocent, not me." I spit at him.
"Well if I let you live, you will kill! And that's a fact! I may not have any experience of your kind, but I know what they are made for. They are made for killing. They bring death." Thing 2 now said, interrupting our conversation.
"Your mother made you what you are! And she paid for it, just like you are."
The mans words brought rage to me. I started kicking and thrashing, hitting the guy a couple times before they both pinned me down. "Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!" I started screaming. I was seeing red, and landed one final kick to Thing 2's skin before I was immobile.
"It's true. Your mother begged for us to spare her.." Thing 2 said.
"And we cut. Her. In. Half." Thing 1 finished.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" I screamed as loud as I could.
"Goodbye, say hi to your mother for me." the man said before pressing the gun to my head and was about to pull the trigger before I lifted my head up and headbutted him as hard as I could.
My head was spinning but I reached out for the guys leg anyway. Stars surrounded me but I felt cold metal on my fingers, so I grabbed it. I heard a guy groaning and footsteps coming toward me. I raised the gun up and pointed it at Thing 2 before shooting him in the foot. I stumbled toward Thing 1 and grabbed his other gun, I shot him in the foot also before I started running again.
Always running.
I could hear them stumbling after me, and that they would eventually catch up, but I kept sprinting. Along the way I tossed one gun as far as I could while tightly holding on to the other as I jumped over fallen over trees. I heard a splash under me and realized that I just stepped into a river. I dropped the other gun and watched the silhouette of it wash away. I was trudging though it, my footfalls suddenly a lot heavier then before.
I could feel myself clawing at the hill as I stepped out of the river and was slowly making my way up the steep incline . I could feel myself start screaming, and tears falling down my face. I just felt pain. So much pain.
"Persephone!" Someone screamed. I turned around but found no one. There wasn't anyone, because I was alone.
I was alone.
"Persephone, wake up!"
I could see stars and I tumbled forward, I barely registered me hitting my head on a rock, but I stood up anyway. I started running, well as much as I could run. My arms were pushing against tress as I tried to keep upright.
"Persephone, please, wake up! Wake up!"
Everything wasn't right, the trees were spinning, the night sky had way to many stars out, they were even on the ground... how weird.
"PERSEPHONE!"
My eyes shot open to a blinding pain in my head. Wildly, I looked around until my eye landed on a worried strawberry blonde.
"What the actual hell?" I asked, clutching at my painful head.
"I don't know! You just started screaming! What the hell was that!?" She exclaimed putting a hand to her head as well.
"I was having a nightmare.. sorry. It was really vivid, and honestly it scared the crap out of me." I huffed out and tried to sit up, but the headache spiked and I laid back down, before trying again more slowly this time.
"Yeah, well your screaming scared the crap out of me too." Lydia mumbled before standing up. "Just... go take a shower. I'm gonna get ready." She whispered before trudging out of my room.
I felt bad. I probably woke up her and Ms. Martin, I'd have to apologize later. I stripped out of my sweat soaked clothes before going underneath the stream of hot water that loosened all of my muscles. "You are such a freak, Persephone." I whisper before laying my head on the wall of the shower, just letting the water splash all over me.
🌘🌖🌗🌕🌓🌔🌒
The rest of the morning, Lydia and I didn't mutter a single word about earlier. We talked and joked around about the girls in our school. It was normal, way too normal when I was screaming my head off only an hour and a half ago, but Lydia didn't look at me like a freak like I was thinking about myself. She didn't even give me a second glance when I closed my eyes when she was doing my hair and makeup so I didn't have to look into the mirror.
Ever since the incident I was too scared to even steal a glance. I stuck to the reflection of windows, or using Lydia's phone to look at what she had done with my makeup. I was kind of like a walking freak show. Running around in the woods, passing out in parking lots, losing my memories, screaming when I look into mirrors, and now having horrible nightmares that make absolutely no sense.
"Come on, Persephone! We got a school to run! We have to pick up Allison as well!" Lydia states, before walking out the front door.
After taking a few deep breaths I follow her out of the door, closing it behind me. "You are a normal girl." I whisper to myself. "You will not have any more freak outs."
Getting into the passenger side of Lydia's car we drive over to the Argent's house. Allison runs out, almost like she's running for her life, then barreling in the backseat. "Get me away from my family, now."
"What did they do now?" Lydia asks nonchalantly like this happens a lot.
"My dad has gone insane! He literally kidnapped me last night! I was at the gas station, the lights went out before these guys grabbed me. They dragged me to the old Hale House where my dad was tied up, the men started playing recording that scared the crap out of me before my dad just stood up and saying that if this was real I would be dead. He gave me an arrow head and left me alone until I cut myself out, it took two hours." Allison says, sighing as she replayed the memory. "Two freaking hours!"
I was really confused, why would her dad do that? As if Lydia read my mind, she answered, "Her dads really into hunting and the whole self defense thing." She says, before returning back to driving.
"Well..... that's interesting." I replied, not really knowing what to say.
I couldn't really say, "Allison, your family are psychos, I'd run as fast as you can away from them."
Yeah, that wasn't really a good idea.
"And not to mention that they have been breathing down my neck about Scott! They check every single email, text, DM, or any written thing that I send. It's horrible." She mumbles, before banging her head down on the window.
"Well I would say your life doesn't really suck, but then I'd be lying. Your life sucks." Lydia says unemotionally.
Oh Lydia....
The car pulled into an empty parking space. We all piled out, grabbing our bags and walking up the steps. The stares died down today, there was a few stranglers that still glanced at us, but it was bearable. "We have P.E today, lets head to the locker rooms. If we do something that ruins my hair, though, I'm sitting it out." Allison and I just rolled our eyes and followed the strawberry blonde toward the locker rooms as the bell rang.
There was no signs of Scott and his spaz friend until we walked into the gym. They were in a huddle talking about god knows what. We walked up to them and they stopped talking, I was about to ask about what they were talking about but coaches whistle interrupted me.
"Okay! Climbing wall today you deviants! Lets go! First up is Argent and McCall!" Coach yells out. Scott and Allison smiled at each other, and I smiled at them because they were cute. Coach then grabs Scott's arm, "Try not to let the girl beat you, cause' if she does you will be publicly humiliated, and I am going to love every second of it, McCall."
A couple snickers escaped the people surrounding me. They both got strapped in, then started scaling the wall. I could tell Scott was purposely going slower, so Allison was ahead of him, I was curious as of why, until I heard him saying that he was just admiring the view, which then caused me to roll my eyes.
Allison started climbing faster so she can beat Scott, but then Scott suddenly became an Olympic climber because he was ahead of Allison now, smirking down at her as she realized that she was losing. Scott does a little shrug of his shoulders as if to say "Sorry not sorry." But then Allison kicks at his foot and he falls off the wall, the rope catching him about two inches from the ground, even I flinched from how bad that had to hurt.
The class erupted into laughter, and I couldn't help but join in. The rope suddenly gets released and he hit the mat underneath him, and even the coach started laughing. Coach then sat next to Scott and said, "McCall I don't know why but your pain gives me a special kind of joy." He then starts laughing again as Scott huffs out in annoyance.
"Alright! Next two! Uh.. Persephone, and Greenburg." He announces. I slowly started walking forward, a guy who I am guessing is Greenburg stands next to me, not so subtly checking me out. I roll my eyes and hook myself in, then start climbing. He tries to quickly strap in, but fails and I laugh, still scaling the wall. He starts climbing, trying to go as fast as he can, which really isn't that fast, but I'm already at the top, sliding my way down. On the way, I do a Allison and kick his foot, causing him to fall down. I heard him groan in pain.
Good, the perv deserved it.
The class starts laughing again, and I smirk. "Persephone!" The coach yells, and I'm suddenly afraid I'm going to get in trouble, but then he starts laughing and I breath out in relief. "You have an A in my class for the rest of the year. Thank you, thank you so much!" He says then announces the next two.
"Stillinski, Erica!" As I unstrap myself, I see Stiles happy face, then looking at his rival I see why, there is no way she is gonna beat him.
They both get strapped in before they start climbing, Stiles already beating her, and that's saying something. Stiles reaches the top and slides down, I see Erica freeze in the middle. I can see her body trembling as her breathing increases. Even Stiles is looking up at her in concern. I start to move toward the girl on the wall. "Erica!" The coach yells up at her.
"Dizzy?" He asks. "Is it vertigo?" I roll my eyes, that definitely isn't vertigo.
Lydia beats me to the catch though. "Vertigo's a dysfunction of the vestibule system of the inner ear." She states out. "She's just freaking out."
Way to be nice about it Lydia.
"Erica!" The coach yells out again. Someone starts laughing as she says a "I'm fine!" But she isn't fine, not at all.
"Coach, maybe its not safe you know, she's epileptic." Allison says to the coach.
"W-W-Why doesn't anyone tell me this stuff?" He exclaims then looks up at the poor girl. I start getting fed up as people keep laughing at her.
"Erica— You are fine! Just kick off of the wall! There's a mat to catch you!" I call out to her. She starts to look down at the mat. "Come on! You can do it, Erica!" I say to her.
She slowly starts to slide down, when she reaches the bottom I grab her shoulders. "See you're alright! You're fine!" She starts crying as everyone starts laughing. She shoves me away with everyone else as she heads toward the doors. I went to go after her, but Lydia pulls me back.
"Why do you have to be so nice all the time? Geez." She mumbles to me, then starts talking about the upcoming lacrosse season.
🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘
About 15 minutes later we were all in the locker rooms changing into our regular clothes. The girls were laughing and chatting about random things, but I couldn't focus. I haven't seen Erica once since we got in here. Where did she go? She was pretty upset when she left. And needless to say that even though I don't know the girl, let alone ever talk to her, I was worried.
"Have you guys seen Erica?" I ask the brunette and strawberry blonde.
"No, I have not seen the girl that's in desperate need for a hair appointment. But if I do, I'll be sure to give her my discount that I got last week." Lydia says while pursing her lips. Allison and I look at her in disbelief.
"No." Allison says while shaking her head at her best friend. "We haven't seen her."
I kept looking all around the locker rooms trying to get a glimpse of the dirty blonde. No luck.
I started walking toward the gym, Allison and Lydia following me, probably to see what the hell I was doing. I then heard a shout coming from the gym and I started running. I saw Erica falling off the rock wall, without any rope or mat to catch her. But before I could scream or call for help, Scott runs over faster than I have ever seen someone run and catch her before she hit the hard ground.
I was frozen in disbelief. How did he know that she was in here, and was going to fall?
Erica's body starting to shake as Scott placed her on the ground. "Get her on her side!" I hear someone shout, but I was still standing still in a battle with my thoughts. I kept looking at Scott, and he seemed to sense my stare because he made eye contact with me, but then quickly looks away and walks over to Stiles, then both of them looking at me in worry.
I have a feeling that I saw something that I probably shouldn't have.
