Chapter 6 - Detention with Mr. Covaci

I squirmed uncomfortably under his gaze and spit back, "I could say the same about you. Seems like you're everywhere,"

He shrugged, the collar of his dark coat rustling slightly as he did.

"Maybe I just have an every man kind of face,"

I snorted, "You don't."

He smirked again at that and I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach. I looked away quickly as the teacher began to drone on about the new lesson but I could feel his brown eyes on me the whole time. After a about half an hour, class was over and I quickly grabbed up my backpack from the floor, slinging it across my shoulder. I made my way towards the front. Consequently, I was swept up in the crowd and propelled out the door. Which was fine by me because I didn't want to stay in that room with him any second longer.

He was gorgeous but...there was still something about him that screamed 'danger' to me. Maybe it was his bad-boy attitude or maybe just because he was so mysterious all the time. Either way, I didn't need to be around him. The rest of the day breezed by and I thought there would be no more incidents. Boy, was I wrong! I had calculus next and guess who sat beside me? Bingo! Hot mystery boy.

He slid in the seat next to mine and I bit back a huff of annoyance, trying to focus on the notebook in front of me. But again, I felt those eyes watching me every now and then. I tried to shrug off the feeling but I couldn't concentrate.

"Would you quit staring at me?" I snapped at him suddenly.

For a second, I thought I saw his eyes flash yellow but in a split second it was gone. He arched an eyebrow then, amused by my outburst. He was about to say something when the teacher cut him off.

"Miss Reyes-Hargreaves, is there a problem?" he asked, crossing his arms.

Biting my lip, I told him, "This guy started it. He was bothering me,"

The boy snorted beside me.

"Yeah, right. More like you were bothering me," he muttered under his breath.

But apparently the teacher heard what he said.

"Oh, how, mature of you, Miss Reyes-Hargreaves, Mr. Covaci! And since you're so mature, you'll have no qualms about seeing me in detention after school." he smiled maliciously.

The boy and I groaned at the unfairness. But the rest of the day had no more incidents and soon, it was time for detention. There was no one else in the classroom when I got there but our teacher. He smiled over at me and gestured to one of the empty desks.

"Take your pick, Jemma." he waved a hand around.

Faking a brief smile, I walked over and plopped down into one of the desks. A few minutes later, the boy walked in and quickly zipped over to a seat far away from mine.

"Ah, Matei, glad you could join us." the teacher chirped and I rolled my eyes at his over-cheeriness.

Ah, Matei. So that was mystery guy's name. Making a mental note of it, I leaned back into my seat and prepared for the boredom that was detention.
