Chapter Four // Don't be Afraid
Cecilia and the Satelite - Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
"What now," Soda asks.
"T-that's my bag," I repeat. "L-last night they took i-it from me! T-that bag is all I have left," I scream.
Soda just nods and quickly jogs up to the men, yanking my bag back slightly causing the guy to turn. I saw their mouths moving but I couldn't hear a word that was being said.
Soda reaches into his pocket and pulls something out, handing it to the guy before taking my bag. He came back over to me and handed me my bag with a small smile.
I take it and instantly open it, checking to make sure everything was still there. Sadly, all my drawing supplies, including my sketchbook were gone.
My smile fades and I sigh softly, holding the bag closer. My money was still there so at least I might have enough to buy some new supplies.
"What's wrong Johnny," Soda asks softly.
"M-my stuff is gone but m-my money is still here," I mumble. "I-i gotta buy some more s-stuff now..."
"Its okay bud. After lunch we can go out and I'll buy you some things," Soda say.
"N-no that's too much. I-i can buy my things."
"Are you absolutely sure," Soda questions.
I just nod in response and close up my bag, slinging it over my shoulder. Sighing softly, I glance over at Ponyboy to see him frowning.
His expression is different from when I first met him, his eyes were soft now, less intimidating. He looks better this way, he looks like a big softie now.
A smile makes its way onto my lips and he smiles back at me, moving to wrap an arm around my shoulder. I smile more and lean on him slightly.
"I'm sorry for how I acted earlier, I was being an ass because my other brother put me into a bad mood. But you seem like a good kid Johnny and I wanna make it up to you," Ponyboy says.
"Its okay Ponyboy," I murmur softly. "You don't gotta make it up to me at all."
"Well then, just to know, what is missing from your bag Johnny," he questions.
"All my drawing supplies are missing, my sketchbook, pencils, coloring pencils, all of my art supplies," I tell him.
"Thank you for the information Johnny, I am definitely not going to use that in anyway," he says chuckling.
"Okay," I answer slowly.
He grins widely and pulls me closer to his side, a chuckle escaping his lips. I definitely like this side of Ponyboy better than the one I saw before.
His other side was like a bucket of nails but this side, this side makes him seem like a marshmallow. I giggle at this and a blush creeps onto my face.
"Alright buddies, I see you two made up so lets go eat," Soda says. "I know you both are hungry."
"Yeah Soda, your right. I know I am and I know Johnny is too," Ponyboy says.
He was right, my stomach felt like it was eating itself because I haven't eaten in a while. Just then, my stomach growls and my face heats up more.
"Y-yeah, I am kinda hungry," I murmur out.
"Mhm," Ponyboy hums out. "Lets go!"
Ponyboy keeps his arm wrapped firmly around my shoulder and walks me down the street with Soda leading the way. Ponyboy was practically bouncing with excitement.
"You okay there Ponyboy," Soda asks. "You look so so happy..."
"I'm perfect Soda, just perfect," Ponyboy tells him. "Its it a crime for me to be happy?"
"No, not at all its just an unusual sight to see for me. Half the time you glare at everyone and here you are grinning like an idiot and you have your arm around a stranger," Soda tells him. "I like this side of you..."
Ponyboy nods and chuckles lightly, continuing to walk with me. My face was probably beet red by now, never being shown this much affection before.
"So Johnny, where do you live," Soda questions. "I wanna know what part of town your from so maybe Ponyboy can have a friend."
The world seemed to slow in that moment, everything turning a shade of black or grey. I don't live anywhere, how am I supposed to explain that!?
"Johnny, earth to Johnny," Soda says. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah why," I reply nervously.
"You just spaced out with the most terrified look on your face," Ponyboy says.
"I-I'm okay, promise. Just daydreaming about food," I lie. "I'm hair really hungry..."
A nervous laugh escapes my lips and they both nod, looking ahead of them and walking. I stay beside Ponyboy, not wanting to get separated in this town.
Not even being here long, I got stuff stolen from me, screamed at by a cute guy and-. Wait what?!
He's not cute! He's not cute, just really hot!
Knock it off brain, your not gay! Your are not gay!
My face heats up bright red and I look down at my feet, not wanting the two of them to question me. I don't wanna answer that question.
Without even realizing, I look up to see that we just entered the restaurant place Soda said he loves and I look around. The smell was enough to make me drool, everything in this place smells amazing.
Ponyboy looks at me and chuckles, taking his thumb and wiping the corner of my mouth before wiping his hand on his jeans. I blushes deeply and look at him.
"H-huh," I ask softly. "W-why'd you do that?"
"I only wiped your drool Johnny. Its like you haven't smelled good food for a long ass time," Ponyboy says.
I just nod at him because it was true, the most I've really eaten was granola bars and crackers. So this place smells like heaven to me and I honestly can't wait to eat here.
A woman comes over and leads us to a booth, me instantly moving to sit by the wall, pushing my glasses up slightly. Ponyboy sits next to me while Soda is seated across from us, smiling.
"Alright Johnny, so how do you like this place so far," Soda asks.
"Its incredible. Everything smells amazing and I can't wait to eat-." I stop myself. "S-sorry, that's selfish of m-me..."
"For wanting to eat? I don't think it is. If your hungry, your hungry, you can't help that," Ponyboy says with a shrug.
I nod at him and shoot him a weak smile. He smiles back and a waitress comes over.
"Hello, I'm Catherine and I'll be your waitress today. What can I get you to drink," she asks sweetly.
"I'll have a Pepsi," Ponyboy says.
"Me too," Soda says.
They both turn to look at me and I shrug, not knowing what else they had besides Pepsi. Catherine smiles softly at me and she seems to be patient.
"W-what do you guys have," I ask shyly.
"Well we have Pepsi products, water, tea, and coffee," she says smiling.
I nod slightly and sigh softly, thinking over everything in my head. It took me a minute to decide.
"P-Pepsi please," I murmur.
She nods and writes it down, turning on her heel and walking away from us. She was awful pretty...
With that blonde hair and brown eyes, she was quite attractive. I turn my gaze to look at Ponyboy and Soda.
"Are you shy around girls Johnny," Soda teases.
"I'm shy around everyone," I murmur softly.
He just nods and a few minutes later, Catherine comes back with our drinks. She passes theirs put first, then giving me mine, a small not on the side.
I pick it up and read it.
You are such a cutie. Hopefully I can show you a good time?

<3 Catherine
I blush deeply and set the paper down, shaking my head. I take the paper and hand it back to her.
"I-I'm flattered but... N-no thank you," I say shyly.
She huffs and takes the paper, faking a smile and turning away and stomping off. I frown and sigh softly, taking one of the straws form the table and putting it in my drink.
Soda and Ponyboy are both looking at their menus and don't seem to notice what happened a few seconds ago. Looking down, I glance over everything and can't seem to choose what to have.
A few minutes pass by before Catherine comes back and smiles at Ponyboy and Soda but completely avoiding me. Frowning, I look down and fiddle with my fingers.
"Alright, are you ready to order," she aks.
"Yeah," Soda and Ponyboy say in unison.
"Alright, what can I get you?"
"I want grilled cheese with fries please," Ponyboy says.
"I want a burger with fries please," Soda says.
"And you," she asks, referring to me.
"S-same as him, I murmur, pointing at Ponyboy.
I hear her heels click against the floor and she leaves. We sit in silence and Soda hums softly.
After a bit, she comes back with the food and passes it out to Soda and Ponyboy before walking away. I knew I didn't get anything so I just slink down in my seat slightly, my chest tightening.
I feel like crying but why should I, it's a pathetic thing to do because of this situation. Tears spill over anyway and I bite my lip, keeping quiet.
"Johnny," Ponyboy asks softly after a few minutes. "What's wrong?"
"I-i rejected her so now s-she's being mean to me," I murmur out, sniffling.
"Hey its okay," he says softly, pulling me into a hug.
I hate being such a sensitive person, I hate being weak. Over the littlest things, I cry.
"You can share with me okay," Ponyboy asks.
"B-but you need to eat," I murmur. "I-i don't wanna take it cause i-its yours."
He pulls away slightly and smiles softly, taking his thumb and wiping my tears. I hiccup and sniffle.
"Its okay Johnny, I promise," he tells me.
He pulls away completely and takes his sandwich, pulling it in half and handing part of it to me. I hesitantly take it and he wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me into his side.
"Take some fries too if you want," Ponyboy says.
I nod and lean my head on his shoulder, taking a small bite of my food. Soda smiles at us and eats.
After a few minutes, I finish my sandwich and hesitantly reach into the thing of fries and take out a few, nibbling on one. Ponyboy chuckles and pushes the basket closer to me, smiling and taking a few himself.

Soda pays before we get up and leave. I smile softly, still close to Ponyboy's side.
"How was the food Johnny," Soda asks.
"It was really good," I says softly.
"I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sadly though, I gotta get home with Ponyboy before Darry skins us," Soda says. "It ain't too dark, you think you can make it home?"
"Y-yeah, I can," I say.
I really wanted to say that I didn't have a home and that I was scared. No words came out though.
Where is home tonight?

This is the longest thing ice ever wrote with a word count of 1898. Holy shit!
How was this?
