IN THE EARLY MORNING VIOLET drove Elena over to the Salvatore Mansion. The two let themselves in without knocking and quickly went up to Damon's room.

"You just can't stay away, can't you ?", Damon's voice came from behind the opened wardrobe door.

"You've haven't answered our calls", Violet stated as she came to a stand beside him. Damon continued to empty the notes he had gathered on Stefan.

Damon raised his eyebrow while he shrugged, "Yeah, busy day, you know? Dead fake girlfriend and all."

The news woman on TV continued to rambled on about Andie, Damon's fake girlfriend while Elena joined their conversation. "Why didn't you tell us?"

"Happy birthday Elena. Stefan killed Andie. Cake?", Damon answered her sarcastically.

"He called me, Damon", Elena informed him and Damon immediately looked at her, the surprise visible on his face, "What?"

Elena repeated, "Stefan called me last night." Damon immediately percked up at his bother's name.

"What did he say?", Damon questioned her curiously.

Elena seemed taken back by his question, "He didn't say anything. But it was him. I asked Sheriff Forbes if she would trace the call's origin. It came from Tennessee."

Damon couldn't bite back a sarcastic remark, "Where he's binge-drinking on the country folk. We went through this Elena. Stefan's gone."

He threw the papers into the fireplace and grabbed the lighter from above. He smirked weirdly at them, "And I didn't mean geographically."

There was silence before Elena shook her head, "If he was gone, he wouldn't have called."

Damon didn't said anything before he faced the fireplace again. Elena sighed disappointed before she walked out of the room and Violet remained standing where she was.

The dark haired girl watched how the man lit the papers on fire. He galnced at her, a questioning expression on his face.

Violet let her arms fall to her side before she walked towards the door. Standing in the door frame she looked back at him, "I'm sorry about Andie, Damon."

Damon seemed surprised by her words and she gave him a small nodd before she followed after Elena. Violet knew that Damon must've liked Andie at least a little for him to keep her around, so she really was sorry for his loss.

"I need to talk to Alaric", Elena stated convinced when the two climbed back into the car. Violet gave her friend a unsure look, "He doesn't seem stable at the moment, but if you really want to I can drive you."

The two looked at each other before Elena nodded, "Thanks. I really appreciate that you help me, V."

"I'm always here for you, Elena", she assured her best friend.

After that the two drove over to Alaric apartment. At some point Elena had probably realized that it was a pretty uncomfortable situation for Violet.

The girl and Alaric had never had a close relationship, they were just still teacher and student, so she let her stay in the car while she went up to talk to Alaric.

Time passed by rather quickly and before Violet could get bored of texting Bonnie, Elena was back in the car.

"Soo, Alaric still needs a bit of convincing. Next, we're going to pay Tyler a visit", the brunette informed her friend while she sighed deeply.

The two knew that Tyler was at the Grill and quickly found him, sitting in a booth at the back.

At first the boy was sceptical to why they questioned him, but he still answered them. "A lot of us like to keep to ourselves for the full moon. Chain ourselves up. But there are some werewolves like to gather in places were they don't have to do that. Where they can enjoy it."

"What kind of places?", Elena questioned him curiously while she leaned forward onto the table. Tyler shrugged before he answered, "Mountains, state parks, deserts, that kind of stuff."

Elena listened to him interested, "Anywhere near Tennessee?"

Tyler nodded his head in confirmation, "Yeah, here give me your phone, I'll try to pull up a map." The brunette immediately handed him her phone, "Thank you for this. I know I'm asking a lot."

"As Caroline likes to remind me, Stefan's in this mess because I bit Damon. I figure I owe you", the werwolf boy stated before he gave her a guilty face expression.

"Has anyone of you talked to her today?", the boy then questioned the two. Elena and Violet both frowned at him, "No, why?"

Tyler seemed kinda nervous, but then he shurgged once more, "Just curious." The boy glanced back at Elena's phone, he then placed the phone onto the table, "Here. That's your best bet."

"Thank you, Tyler. Really", Elena told the boy honestly before she quickly stormed off.

Violet stood up as well, giving Tyler one last look, "Maybe try calling her."

"I did. A hundred times— She's not answering", the boy answered her helpless, making the girl frown to herself. "Weird, when does Caroline not answer her phone?"

The two exchanged a worried glance, "You don't think something happened, right?"

Violet frowned, convincing herself that nothing was wrong before she shook her head. "No, no, I'm sure she'll come around."

She clapped Tyler onto the shoulder before her gaze fell onto Elena and Alaric, who stood by the entrance of the Grill, motioning for her to join the two.

"I've got to go. See you later."

"IN A COUPLE HOURS the full moon's gonna rise just above that ridge. That's where the pack's gonna be", Alaric explained to the two teenage girls that followed after him through the woods.

"You were a boy scout weren't you?", Elena questioned him jokingly. The man just gave her a glare, "Shut up!"

"A boy scout-slash-vampire slayer", the brunette continued joking, while following after the man.

Alaric didn't turn around when he sat down his backpack, "Slash-whiskey-drinking all around lost cause."

"Wow, you came stocked", Elena stated impressed when she eyed the backpack that was filled with weapons. Alaric gave her an irritated look, "Well, yeah. We aren't exactly bird-watching."

Alaric handed Violet a self build granade and the girl raised an eyebrow at him, "A vervain grande?"

"Wolfsbane." She hummed before she quickly stuffed it into her backpack.

"Well, since we're exchanging gifts", Elena stated before she held up John Gilbert's family ring.

"That's John Gilbert's ring", Alaric stated simply as they all stared at the silver and black familiy heirloom.

"It was yours once. Go ahead. Come on take it. It'll protect you from whatever supernatural dangers we're about to get ourselves into", Elena said as she shrugged with her shoulders.

"He gave it to you", Alaric stated. "I'm a doppelgänger. It won't work on me. He left it for if I ever have kids", Elena told him, looking up at the man.

Alaric raised an eyebrow, sighting, "Yeah, well. Why don't you save it for future generations of stubborn, relentless baby Gilbert's?"

But Elena still didn't give up. "Okay. How about you borrow it until we survive this? I'd feel bad if I got you killed before happy hour."

Violet's gaze slowly wandered down to Jeremy's big ring on her finger. Now she was thankful that he gave it to her for today.

Alaric chuckled before he finally took the ring from Elena's hands and faced his backpack.

Elena and Violet's exchanged a satisfied look while they placed their backpacks onto the ground.

Violet walked towards the edge of the rock, gazing over the lake, "I don't know why but I have a bad feeling about—"

The dark haired girl hadn't even finished her words when she felt a force that hit against her back.

The girl flew over the edge and let out a scream before she broke through the water surface.

Violet quickly broke through the surface, her heart beating like it would jump out of her chest at any moment.

Her eyes wandered over the water and she saw Elena standing next to her inside the water. Both of them were looking up the hill, immediately spotting Damon.

Violet immediately felt rage take her over, "Damon? Are you out of your mind!? How are you even here?!"

"Thanks for the tip, brother", Damon smirked over at Alaric while he casually leaned against a tree.

Elena seemed disappointed while she stared at Alaric, "You sold us out!"

"You think I'd take you to a mountain range of werewolves on a full moon without backup?", the brunette man questioned and Elena's gaze immediately darkened.

Damon seemed like he had enough of the talking, "Get out of the water."

Violet started to walk through the water but Elena grabbed her wrist, stopping her, "If we get out, you're not gonna make us go home."

Damon rolled with his eyes, "Yes. Because I'm not an idiot, like you."

Alaric interrupted the two annoyed, "Right now, you're both acting like idiots."

Elena just ignored the man, while she held eye contact with Damon, "You gave up on him, Damon."

"I didn't gave up on him, Elena. I faced reality. Now get out of the water!", Damon exclaimed while he entered the water and walked towards them.

Violet wanted to go, but Elena yanked her back again, "No!"

"What's your big plan, Elena? Huh? You're gonna walk into a campsite of werewolves, roast a marshmallow and wait for Stefan to stop by?", the man got angrier by the second.

The vein on his forehead popped out while he walked through the water towards them.

Elena remained exactly were she was, her grip tightening around Violet's wrist, "My plan is to find him and help him. Damon, this is the closest that we've been since he left. I'm not going home!"

The man had a wide eyed look on his face, his voice loud and full of annoyance, "Klaus thinks you died when he broke the curse. That makes you safe. This? This is not safe!"

"He has a point", Violet remarked quietly as she made eye contact with Elena. The brunette shot her a glare, "I'm not leaving before we find him."

Damon gave her a glare, "It's a full moon tonight, Elena." The two started at each other stubborn, "Then we'll find him before then."

Damon shook his head and Violet sighed deeply, "Damon, let her do this. Please."

Damon met Violet's eyes and he seemed to consider his options for a moment. "Okay. Okay. We're out of here before full moon."

Violet exchanged a look with Elena, "We promise." Damon just seemed to ignore  her words while he was staring down at Violet.

A smirk suddenly appeared on his face while he slightly leaned down onto her level, "Unless you wanna relive that whole deathbed kissy thing."

Violet's eyes widened immediately and her cheek's grew red. He knew that she hadn't told that to anyone. "I said we promise!"

He didn't blink once before he turned around, "Fine."

Elena gave Violet a pointed look, that definitely said, we're going to talk about this.

The four continued through the woods for another hour when Alaric spoke up from the front of the group, "We have about a mile left."

Damon's eyes immediately wandered towards the sky, "The sun is about to set."

"I can see that, Damon", Elena stated with a dark expression on her face. The man gave her a knowing glance, "I'm just saying."

The brunette didn't gave in so easily, "The moon doesn't reach it's apex for a while. We have time."

The group continued their hike through the forests before suddenly a few twigs snapped in the distance.

Alaric immediately raised his crossbow when a man came through the trees towards them.

He had blood running down his face and neck, towards his shirt, coming from his eyes. It looked absolutely horrifying.

He stumbled towards them, looking like he was about to faint. "Stay were you are", Alaric warned him firmly.

The man's gaze suddenly fell onto Damon, "Vampire."

Suddenly he vamp speedded towards Damon, immediately attacking him. But Damon quickly reacted.

The man pressed him up against a tree and tried to bite him, but Alaric shot him into the back.

To their surprised there was no reaction from the Werewolf. Elena quickly grabbed the wolfsbane granate from her backpack and threw it to Damon.

The dark haired man caught the granate and let it explode into the werewolfs face.

The werewolf screamed out in pain while he sunk to the ground. He tried to sit up while grunting loudly.

Damon kicked him heavily into the rib cage, making him fly a few inches.

The man didn't move and Damon breathed heavily. "Let me guess— Hybrid."

The four didn't waste time before they chained the werewolf against a tree with all the roaps they had.

"These roaps aren't gonna hold. What else do we have?", Damon questioned them, not letting the Hybrids out of his sight.

"Ric, here, take these", Elena said as she poured the vervain over the roap.

Damon grabbed the roap and immediately screamed out. His skin was burning and he quickly shook his head while wincing. "Ahh! Ow!"

Elena's eyes widened, "I said Ric!"
Alaric the quickly grabbed and wrapped the roap around the Hybrid. "All right, that's the last of the vervain. We don't have enough stuff to hold him. I don't think we're gonna make that ridge before the full moon."

"If we can get him to talk, we don't have to", Elena stated as she reached out to touch the Hybrid.

Before the brunette reached his cheek, the man gasped loudly, his eyes opening. Elena flinched back, staring at him in shock.

Suddenly the man's bones started to snap. "Is he turning?", Damon questioned with a frown on his face.

Violet shook her head, "Impossible. It's daylight." Damon gave her a sarcastic look, "Tell him that."

Panic immediately took over Elena's body, "There aren't supposed to be werewolves until the moon is full!"

Violet gave them a look of terror, "Those roaps aren't gonna hold a werewolf!"

The Hybrid screamed out in pain, trying to bite Damon with every movement.

Violet felt the panic rise. Her eyes were on Damon while she shook her head hectically. "Damon, we have to get out of here. We've gotta get out of these mountains now!"

Elena agreed immediately before she pushed Damon, "Come on, now!"

The four immediately started to run through the forest, back to the spot where they left their car.

The sun already went down and the darkness set in. They were nearly there when Elena suddenly stumbled over a branch and fell.

They all immediately stopped running. "Don't move."

Elena looked slowly up, coming face to face with a growling werewolf.

Damon's eyes widened, "Here, doggy doggy." He quickly spun around an vamp speeded away, followed by the werewolf.

Elena quickly got onto her feet and Alaric motioned for her to join him. "Come on, keep moving!"

"We can't leave, Damon", Violet stated out of breath. Alaric shook his head at her, "He can handle himself!"

"No if he gets bit, he'll be dead. I'm the reason he's out here", Elena exclaimed in horror while she shook her head.

"I'm the reason he's out here! I told him where we were! Keep moving! Let's go!", Alaric screamed back at her. Violet hesitated and Alaric shouted once more, "Violet now!"

The three then continued their way through the forest until they had finally reached the car.

As Violet flopped down into the seat she released a deep breath.

Elena seemed impatient, sitting on the edge of her seat, her gaze laying on the forest. "Stefan is out there, and now Damon, and we're just sitting in this car."

Alaric gave her a look before he leaned back, "Let the Vampires fight the hybrid-zombie-mountain man. I'll take care of keeping the humans safe."

Elena's gaze immediately snapped towards him, "I thought you checked out of taking care of people."

Alaric met her gaze. "I know what you're doing. Don't. There doesn't need to be a lesson here."

Elena had a soft look in her eyes, "You better at it than you think." The teacher seemed unnerved now, "Wow you're a sucker for a lost cause or what?"

The brunette girl shook her head at him, "You're not a lost cause, Ric. You're just — lost. But so is Jeremy, and so am I. Our family is gone. We don't have anybody. I'm sorry, but you don't have anybody either. So— So we're kind of it for each other."

The man scanned with his eyes over the Gilbert ring, "I'm keeping the ring, then."

Elena smiled, but Violet's attention was drawn towards Damon, who approached the car.

The three immediately jumped out of the car, Violet gave him a worried look, "Damon? Are you okay? Did you—"

The man interrupted her, sounding kind of bored, "I'm fine. Bite-free. Get back in the car."

Violet remained standig infront of him, but Damon tried to push her towards the car. The girl grew more annoyed by the second. "Okay! Can you please give me a moment to appreciate you're not dead?"

"I'll give you ten seconds. Nine, eight", he turned her towards the car. "Hey Ric, did you see where I parked my car?"

Elena rolled with her eyes as she leaned against the car, "Damon stop being such a caveman."

"Seven."

He pushed Violet into the back of the car before he jumped in after her, closing the door.

There was silence the whole ride back to Mystic falls and Violet was quiet glad about that. Despite that, she felt rather uncomfortable, sitting next to a grumpy Damon.

An hour later Violet stepped through her front door. Her mum and brother were sitting on the couch, a bowl of chips in front of them while they watched a film.

The girl felt exhausted, her feet hurt and her eyes felt heavy. She forced a smile on her face, and approached the couch.

"Hello sweetie. Everything alright?", her mother questioned her, with a large smile. "You look tired."

Violet bend over the couch and gave her mother a kiss onto the cheek.

"Yeah. I'm pretty tired. I think I'll take a quick shower and then I'm off to bed", Violet nodded, smiling before she leaned back and approached the stairs.

"Yeah. Good night sweetheart."

"Night!", her brother exclaimed when Violet was already half way up the stairs.

The dark haired girl then took a quick shower and changed into her pijamas before she made her way over into her bedroom.

When the girl rounded the corner to her room, her heart skipped a beat.

Damon was standing by her window, staring out into the darkness. Violet exhaled deeply, her heart was still beating heavily against her rip cage.

She was exhausted and the only thing she craved right now was a good sleep.

The girl gave him a questioning look, "Damon, what are you doing here?"

The man glanced to the side, his back was still facing towards Violet. "I'm only going to admit this once." He made a short pause before he continued, "I was wrong."

Violet was confused by his behavior. She frowned at him, questioning, "Are you drunk?"

Damon's face scrunched up in irritation, "No."

He finally turned towards her, his blue eyes staring into her brown ones. "I thought Stefan was gone, but I was wrong."

Violet threw her towel onto her bed, her eyes finding his once more. "Damon, you saw him out there? Did you tell Elena?"

The man nodded slowly, seeming deep in his own thoughts, "Yes."

"How is he? Is he okay?" Damon raised his eyebrows at her, "No, Violet. He's not okay. He's an insufferable martyr that needs his ass kicked, like always. But he can be saved. My worry is that Elena is only going to get more annoying from now on."

Violet crossed her arms over her chest, watching his face expression closely, "What happened out there, between Stefan and you? What made you change your mind that quickly, Damon?"

The man answered her quickly, still standing by the window, "I changed my mind, because even in his darkest place, my brother still can't let me die. So I figured I owe him the same in return."

He made a short break, his eyes wandering towards the floor before he made eye contact again. "I'll help you and Elena bring him back."

Violet had a small toothless smile on her lips, "Elena is probably very happy right now. Thank you."

The man's face expression didn't change one bit. "But before I do, I need you to answer one question. What made you change your mind?"

A frown made it's way onto her face, "What do you mean?"

He came slowly closer, his eyes flickering from Violet's eyes down to her lips. "Elena was so hell-bent on staying on that mountain. And you supported her, even begged me to let you stay. And then, you just gave up. What changed your mind?"

The girl felt the redness growing in her cheeks, "We were attacked by a Hybrid, Damon. And I'm a sane human being."

"You hade a bag of weapons and a teacher with an eternity ring. Could've kept going", the man easily stated, making Violet scoff in return.

"It was simply too dangerous. We didn't stood a chance", the black haired girl argued back at him.

"It was too dangerous going out there to begin with. What was it?", Damon pressed even more and Violet grew annoyed.

She frowned at him, not understanding his behavior. "I couldn't let Elena go alone. Why are you being like this?"

Damon took three large steps towards her, "What changed your mind, Violet?"

The girl had to look up into his eyes now and she could smell his cologne now.

Her mind was clouded, she was tired and her heart was beating loudly in her chest. "I didn't wanna see you get hurt, okay!? I was— I was worried about you."

Damon immediately smirked. He broke the eye contact and pushed quickly past her. "Thanks."

"Why do I even have to say it? I mean, yeah, Damon, I was worried about you. I care about you!", Violet stated as she spun around to him, watching his back.

Damon stopped walking and faced Violet again. He approached her slowly, placing his hands on the back of her head while he spoke, "Because I want you to be honest to yourself about us."

His ice blue eyes stared into Violet's brown ones. She felt like he was reading her. Her eyes flickered down to his lips.

Her breath hitched in her throat and no words came out. Damon fiddled with her dark hair before he moved his hands from the back of her head, over her neck towards her chin.

His face was so close to her's that their noses were nearly touching, and she felt his warm breath on her face.

"Good night, Violet."

Violet blinked when his breath hit her face and when she opened her eyes Damon was gone.

The girl released a deep breath, her heart finally slowing down. She carefully sat down in the edge of her bed, before her thoughts flickered back towards her boyfriend. Violet felt like she was the worst person in the entired world.

Suddenly her brother slowly opened her half opened door completely. His eyebrows were raised and he gave her a knowing look. "You know what your doing?"

For a moment Violet remained silent, her mind wandering towards Ethan, making her feel guilty for what she was currently feeling for Damon. She then shook her head while sitting down onto her bed.

"No. I don't."
